Peace Bond Hearing for Terry Jones

Pastor Terry Jones is in court today in Detroit fighting the city’s refusal to grant him a permit for his demonstration unless he posts a “peace bond” of $100,000. As of this writing, the afternoon court session has begun, with no decision yet announced.

Rev. Jones vows to demonstrate outside the Islamic Center no matter what, even if it means going to jail. In the first video below, you’ll notice that he underlines the importance under the First Amendment of “unpopular speech” — that is, speech isn’t free unless one can say what others do not want to hear.

Many thanks to Vlad Tepes for YouTubing these videos. I’ve placed them below the jump to avoid the Blogger bug:

  1. As Lawrence aptly noted over in the “Step One: Abandon All Your Principles” thread:

He needs to burn his Quran’s on the steps of the state-house, not the steps of any given Mosque.

Islamists in their holy place isn’t the problem. They are not in charge, at least not yet. Our problem is our politicians pandering to them.

Our message to our politicians must be that we will not abide Islamist ideologies. Any effort by PC politicians to force us to equivocate Islam isn’t going to fly with the general population.

Burning a Qur’an in front of the Dearborn mosque is inarguably an excellent way of unmasking the constant subtext of violence that permeates Islam. Given Jones’ history of zero violence at his demonstrations and in his personal life, should there be an outbreak of it in this case, there are overwhelming odds that it will have been caused by Muslims.

There exist few other ways of adequately impressing upon the American public how Islam, and Muslims in general, continue to rely upon violence as a fundamental expression of their doctrine and creed.

That said, another message of almost equal significance regards the complicity our political leadership in helping to assure that Islam goes unpunished for this predatory behavior. Therefore, burning a Qur’an on the steps of Dearborn city hall has important merits all of its own.

This would especially be the case if Dearborn Mayor O’Reilly sought to have Pastor Jones arrested on any of the usual trumped up charges related to “hate speech” or other “racial” offenses that Muslim appeasers are so fond of falling back on when confronted with someone who is dead set on exercising their legitimate First Amendment rights.

O’Reilly’s entire charade of “free speech zones” is as reprehensible as it is unconstitutional. I hope he gets his head handed to him by the higher courts.

More likely his head will be handed to him by his Islamic masters to the accompaniment of shouts of “allahu akbar”.
