The Irish debt crisis is becoming more and more acute, and pressure is growing on the Irish government to accede to German nudging and accept a bailout from the European Financial Stability Fund, which was set up during the Greek debt crisis. Ireland hopes to avoid complete EU control of its fiscal policy by having the aid go directly to its banks, rather than to the government itself. The Portuguese government says that the crisis in Ireland has had such a negative effect on the bond market that Portugal, too, may have to tap the EFSF for a bailout.
In other news, a German funeral home is trying to attract gay customers by offering a line of “erotic” caskets. Meanwhile, a study has determined that the Danes are the most impudent and mocking of all the people in the 72 countries studied.
