Gov. Newsom Announces $32 Billion Budget Deficit, $10 Billion More Than Previously Estimated

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday that the Golden State’s budget deficit is $10 billion higher than he predicted earlier this year.

Newsom said during a press conference that California’s budget deficit has grown to nearly $32 billion, which is about $10 billion more than he anticipated in January when he offered his first budget proposal.

“We have a $31.5 billion challenge, which is well within the margin of expectation and well within our capacity to address,” Newsom said.

NYC Public Employees Sue Public Pensions Over ESG Investment Practices

A group of New York workers who may receive retirement benefits are suing three New York City retirement systems for allegedly violating their fiduciary duties to their beneficiaries by making investing decisions with a mind toward non-financial factors.

The complaint contends that “The New York City Employees’ Retirement System (‘NYCERS’), the Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York (‘TRS’), and the Board of Education Retirement System of the City of New York (‘BERS’) (collectively, the ‘Defendants’) are obligated to administer their respective Qualified Pension Plans (the ‘Plans’) solely in the interests of the Plans’ participants and beneficiaries, and for the exclusive purpose of providing retirement benefits.”

“But instead of honoring that obligation, Defendants have breached their fiduciary duties and abused their control over plan assets by divesting the Plans of approximately four billion dollars of holdings in companies involved in the extraction of fossil fuels, in a misguided and ineffectual gesture to address climate change,” the plaintiffs claim. “This unlawful decision to elevate unrelated policy goals over the financial health of the Plans is flatly inconsistent with the Defendants’ fiduciary responsibilities, and jeopardizes the retirement security of Plan participants and beneficiaries. It must be enjoined.”

Poland’s Central Bank Head Says Interest Rates Won’t Rise and Inflation Will Fall

Poland’s baseline inflation — excluding food and energy prices — was in line with that of the eurozone and, especially, that of the region, said the governor of Poland’s central bank (NBP), Adam Glapinski, during a press conference on Thursday.

The central bank head indicated that the inflation rate is higher in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) because people in this region spend more of their income on food and energy, which is not as much the case in wealthier Western societies.

DeSantis Signs Bills Banning Vaccine Mandates, Gain of Function Research

DeSantis Promotes Legal Defense Fund for Hero Marine Charged in Jordan Neely Case

This week, the notoriously weak-on-crime Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg decided to charge Daniel Penny, a 24-year-old Marine veteran, for his role in subduing a deranged homeless man, Jordan Neely, who was threatening to push passengers onto the tracks. Penny was one of three good samaritans who helped subdue Neely, and he can be seen in the video footage of the incident keeping a chokehold on Neely.

While most people would consider Penny a hero for stepping in to keep his fellow citizens safe from a man who was clearly out of his mind, the race hustlers on the left saw another opportunity to inflame racial tensions by protesting the death of Neely — a career criminal with over 40 prior arrests for various offenses, including drug-related charges, disorderly conduct, and fare evasion. At the time of his death, Neely had an outstanding warrant for assaulting a 67-year-old woman.

On May 1, at the Broadway-Lafayette Street station, witnesses reported that Jordan Neely was acting aggressively toward other passengers on a train. Multiple witnesses came forward to state that Neely had made repeated attempts to push people onto subway tracks. There is no doubt that Penny is a hero, and it is widely believed that the Manhattan District Attorney’s office is charging Penny due to public pressure.

A legal defense fund has been set up by the law firm representing Penny, Raiser & Kenniff, P.C. The attorneys set up the page on the crowdfunding site GiveSendGo.

Historian Says Trump Will Win 2024 Presidential Election Based on Past Data

Historian Niall Ferguson said former President Donald Trump is going to win the Republican nomination and will beat Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election.

Ferguson detailed the historical data that led him to his conclusion in an article in The Spectator. Biden and Trump have low overall approval ratings but Trump polls much better on the economy. Ferguson said:

“What this suggests to me is that Joe Biden is in serious danger of following Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush into the bin marked ‘one-term presidents’. Why?

“For the simple reason that no president since Calvin Coolidge a century ago has secured re-election if a recession has occurred in the two years before the nation votes.

“It does not need to be as severe as the Great Depression that destroyed Herbert Hoover’s presidency. A plain vanilla recession will suffice.”

Judge Orders FDA to Accelerate Release of COVID-19 Vaccine Trial Data From 23 to 2 Years

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been ordered by a federal judge in Texas to greatly accelerate the process of making public the vaccine trial data that it relied on to license Covid-19 vaccines.

U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman opened his order with the phrase, “Democracy dies behind closed doors,” an apparent reference to the Washington Post slogan, “Democracy Dies in Darkness.”

He wants all related documents to both Moderna’s vaccine for adults and Pfizer’s vaccine for children to be made public by mid-2025 — a little over two years from now — as opposed to the FDA’s plan of taking 23.5 years to release it all. That is about 10 times faster than the FDA intended to produce the documents, according to The Epoch Times.

Kari Lake Brings New Evidence in Hearing as Maricopa County, Hobbs, Fontes Seek to Dismiss Case

As Kari Lake’s legal team provided new evidence in its Arizona gubernatorial election challenge during a court hearing on Friday, counsel for defendants Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) Secretary of State Adrian Fontes (D) and Maricopa County election officials sought to dismiss the case.

European People’s Party Calls for Ukraine to Join NATO

The European People’s Party, the European Parliament’s largest political group, adopted a declaration calling on NATO to lay the foundations for Ukraine’s long-term membership of NATO.

Ukraine’s accession to NATO has been a sensitive issue within the defense alliance for some time. While the Ukrainian side has the will to become a member, integration poses significant risks. Back in 2008, at the Bucharest Summit, NATO made a “vague” promise that Ukraine would eventually join the alliance.

The protracted Russia-Ukraine war since last year has brought the issue back on the table, but it continues to raise tensions between member states.

Netherlands: Police Arrest XR Activists in Haarlem After Defacing Monument

The police arrested Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists near the provincial government building in Haarlem on Friday. According to De Telegraaf, the activists had not complied with a request to leave the building.

The activists defaced a monument standing on the site, with which the province commemorates colleagues who died in the Dakota disaster in 1996. King’s Commissioner Arthur van Dijk called it “disrespectful and very bad.” He said he considers the right to demonstrate a high good, “which the Extinction Rebellion eagerly makes use of. With some regularity, they occupy our office. And then they allow themselves to be peacefully taken away again by the police.” Van Dijk argues that by graffitiing the monument, the line of decency was far crossed. “I deeply regret this,” he said.

UK: Vandals Killed Birds After Spray Painting ‘Disturbing’ Swastikas and Racism at Essex Lake

Birds in the birdbox were killed after the box was spray painted

An Essex fishery club volunteer was left upset after a fishing area was blighted with the “most disturbing” vandalism which killed birds nesting in a bird box. Now an Essex lake has been left covered in racism and swastikas.

Alan Pattison, from Wickford, had a rude awakening on Saturday morning (May 13) after Aveley Angling Club in Upminster was ravaged with racial and derogatory slurs spray painted on a bridge, trees, and birdbox. A picnic table and scaffolding were also thrown into the lake in the attack on the club.

Birds that were occupying the defaced birdbox were found dead when the club secretary, 45, investigated the extent of the damage to their spraypainted home. Alan said he felt very “disappointed” about the situation and believes people responsible are children because of the “juvenile” language being used.

He said: “We were all kids once but it’s disappointing now. The language that was used shows it’s obvious that these kids are not older than 15 years old and for a young kid to be spray painting swastikas all around the place and derogatory language, it’s really sad. It is a really, really sad situation.”

Islamic Jihad Leader: Cease-Fire Reached With Israel, But Fighting Persists

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — A leader of the Islamic Jihad militant group in Gaza announced late Saturday that a cease-fire deal had been reached with Israel to end five days of heavy fighting. But rocket fire persisted after the deadline, leaving the deal in question.

Islamic Jihad leader Mohamad al-Hindi had told the Al Kahera Wal Nas channel that the Egyptian-brokered deal would go into effect at 10 p.m. local time (1900 GMT).

“Now, this agreement has been reached thanks to continuous Egyptian effort. We appreciate this effort,” he said.

Shortly before the truce was to take hold, Israel reported a heavy burst of Palestinian rocket fire toward southern and central Israel, while Israel said it was striking targets inside Gaza. After the 10 p.m. deadline, Israel reported additional rocket fire, and Israeli media said warplanes were responding.

There was no Israeli comment on the cease-fire announcement. But the Egyptian station had earlier reported a deal was imminent.

E-Verify Digital ID Calls for “Non-Photographic Technology” to Prove ID, Creates a Kill Switch for Employment Eligibility, Critics Say

Introduced in the House this month, the Secure the Border Act of 2023 is there to address issues such as immigration and border security and contains limits to asylum eligibility.

‘France Welcomed a Record 600,000 People Last Year, ‘ Warns French Mayor While Calling for More Restrictions

During an appearance on the Europe 1 television station, the mayor of the French city of Cannes, David Lisnard, warned that immigration has become a major problem in France after it accepted a record 500,000 migrants last year. He says the government must bring immigration under control or risk societal consequences.

“It is communication itself that creates the problem. Immigration has become a major problem in France, we received more or less 600,000 people last year — 600,000. This is a (new) record. Hence, we must close the taps on immigration today, in the interest of the balance of French society,” said Lisnard.

Lisnard was critical of French President Emmanuel Macron and his government, indicating that they focus more on “communication” regarding the issue of immigration rather than actually enforcing immigration law.

Judge Takes Last Minute Action on Border, Biden Halted From Releasing Illegal Aliens Without Setting Court Dates

Judge Thomas Kent Wetherell II, a judicial appointee of Donald J. Trump to the federal bench, reached a court decision that halted the Biden administration from releasing illegal aliens without setting court dates for these migrants to appear.

Under Biden’s previous plan, in the event that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection service is unable to accommodate resources for the upcoming large wave of illegal immigration, they would release migrants from custody to parole, according to Just the News. Those under this parole release do not get an alien registration number nor receive a court date, according to Fox News. This process was previously allowed only for emergency humanitarian reasons. The judge’s decision meant that the administration must wait at least two weeks before enacting this plan due to his restraining order.

Texas Sues Homeland Security Over Border Policy as Judge Grants Florida Restraining Order

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued the Department of Homeland Security over its plan to release foreign nationals en masse into the U.S. without a court date to appear in immigration court.

The parole policy implemented by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has existed in several variations for nearly two years. It, and the policy of “catch and release,” was ruled to be illegal by a federal judge in a lawsuit brought against DHS by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody on March 8.

On May 10, Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz announced the agency was implementing a similar parole policy under a new name, prompting Moody to sue again on May 11. She also asked the court to halt the program. The court did, on the same day, issuing a temporary restraining order for 14 days. A hearing is scheduled for May 19.

Paxton sued Friday over the same policy in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas Victoria Division. He also asked the court to issue a temporary restraining order.

  2. “Beer Analyst Says Anheuser Busch Went Off Rails When Last Family Member — August Anheuser Busch III — Retired and Focus Went From Humor and Sport to Miami Art Fair and Dylan Mulvaney”

    – There are two towns in Bohemia, Pilsen and Budweis, where the Pilsner Beer, and the Budweiser Beer have come into existence. Pilsner is a bitter beer (don’t know if bitter is the right word in English) – and when they made first pilsner beer in Pilsen it was too Bitter for the Budweisers in Budweis, but still better than the sweet beers that they used to make – so they made a mix: A slightly bitter, slightly sweet – Budweiser Beer.

The Budweiser Brewery in Budweis is still making beer, still of infinitely higher quality than anything from Anheuser Busch, who had spent a lot of effort trying to buy the original Budweiser Brewery, but the town of Budweis is not selling. Which is a good thing, for the original Budweiser from Budweis is still a good beer, unlike it’s proud and gay American offspring.

  3. “We have a $31.5 billion challenge, which is well within the margin of expectation and well within our capacity to address,” Newsom said.

Let me guess how this “challenge” will be addressed by Newsom:
    1. Declare “migrant emergency” and get federal aid (taxpayer bailout)
    2. Declare “homeless emergency” and get federal aid (taxpayer bailout)
    3. Declare “climate emergency” and get federal aid (taxpayer bailout)
    4. Declare “fantanyl emergency” and get federal aid (taxpaier bailout)
    5. Have dinner at French Laundry

  4. Have you heard about the explosion of weapons depots in Khmelnitsky? Terrible explosion.
Telegram channels write that there were British missiles with depleted uranium.

    • The good thing about it is that those weapons won’t be getting used to kill Russian men or target civilians in Donetsk whom the Ukrainians have been randomly shelling since 2014. And in a way it means fewer Ukrainian men will die as well, for the faster the Ukraine runs out of Western supplied weapons the sooner the war ends.

      • This is an ecological catastrophe for the whole of Europe. As they write in the comments: The British ALWAYS do nasty things away from their home.”
The fertile lands that were the cause of discord will become unusable.
