A quick internet search shows that it is hard to tell if M.I.A. is a Muslim.
My gut feeling is that M.I.A. is a cultural Muslim – raised in Islam to respect Islam – but she appears conflicted where Islam interferes with her freedom as a woman.
M.I.A. is too familiar with Islam to have been raised outside of it.
