Canada’s Economy Saw One in 20 Businesses Close in June: StatsCan

Canada saw the highest business closure rate since the first summer of the COVID-19 pandemic in June, with one in 20 businesses closing that month, according to Statistics Canada.

Canada’s economy saw 46,354 businesses close in June, marking the largest wave in exactly 4 years.

It’s the highest closure rate since lockdown, a time when businesses were physically restricted from opening up to do business.

The data comes at a time when the unemployment rate also continues its upward trend and is seen highest among young adults.

“Hunger Games $hit”: DHS Head Mayorkas Shops in Georgetown While Katrina-Like Disaster Unfolds in North Carolina

A massive s***storm has erupted for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after he told reporters last week that FEMA “does not have the funds” for the remainder of the Atlantic hurricane season. Meanwhile, reports suggest the agency’s resources were depleted to address Biden-Harris’ open southern border policies that facilitated the greatest migrant invasion this nation has ever seen.

On Sunday morning, the latest power data for the US Southeast region showed that across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georiga, more than 400,000 customers are without power.

“We Spread Misinformation”: Photojournalist Lights Himself on Fire Near White House

Updated: CBS News has reached out and informed us that Mena Jr. is not associated with any CBS owned station or CBS News.

A photojournalist from Phoenix, Arizona, lost his marbles in Washington, DC Saturday evening near the White House at the Black Lives Matter Plaza, setting himself on fire while screaming, “I am a journalist. We spread the misinformation.”

Sam Mena Jr., who claims in his resume to be a photojournalist for KPHO CBS 5 News and PBS — which CBS News has denied — set his left arm on fire while attempting self-immolation during a pro-Palestinian rally near the White House. He shouted, “Free Palestine!”, and “I’m a journalist and I’m ashamed! We spread the misinformation!”

6 Things to Watch in the Upcoming Supreme Court Term

Authored by Sam Dorman via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours)

The Supreme Court is expected to start its 2024—2025 term after a blockbuster year of considering contentious cases and challenges to longstanding precedent.

Already, the court has accepted petitions related to hot-button topics including gender, ghost guns, immigration, pornography, and e-cigarettes. The term starts on Oct. 7.

As the session begins, here are some potential developments to look out for. Besides new legal questions, legal issues from the prior term could resurface and help shape decisions on new cases in the 2024—2025 term.

Anti-Israel Student and Teacher Protesters at NYC Universities Plan Campus Walkouts on Oct. 7 Anniversary

Students and professors at several New York City universities are expected to stage walkouts Monday in a widespread protest of Israel on the anniversary of Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack on the Jewish state, according to reports.

Walkouts are expected to begin around 11:30 a.m. Monday at Columbia University, with law enforcement sources telling The Post that police and campus security are aware and preparing to monitor the situation.

Jewish students are planning to respond with their own vigil in remembrance of the roughly 1,200 Israelis killed on Oct 7, 2023.

Antisemitic Attacks in US Soar 200%, Fueled by Campus Hate: Not ‘A Single Moment of Respite’

The number of antisemitic attacks in the US soared 200% to more than 10,000 incidents this past year — the most ever recorded by the Anti-Defamation League and fueled by a massive jump on college campuses.

At least 1,200 of this past year’s hateful incidents occurred at universities — a deeply troubling 500% increase between Oct. 7, 2023, and Sept. 24, 2024, when compared to the 200 such occurrences in the same period last year, the ADL said.

“We’re all very proud of Christopher Columbus, and we’re here to preserve the history of Christopher Columbus finding and discovering America,” Paul Borghese of the Order of the Sons of Italy Lodge No.2176, told News12 in Long Island.

Michael Pizzi, another member of the order, told the outlet that the figure “represents Italian heritage and culture and everything that we’re proud of.”

Digital ID Schemes Make Strides in Congress Despite Rights Advocate Opposition

It’s one of the “commandments” of global organizations like the UN, and the World Bank, to name but two, and also those less official ones like the WEF and the Gates Foundation: the digital ID.

And in the US, lawmakers have for years been struggling with the concept, heavily criticized by rights advocates for its ability to take mass surveillance to the next level.

On the one hand, the lawmakers have (or are supposed to have) their existing laws and constitutional protections in mind, but on the other, new legislation is cropping up both from Democrats and Republicans that signals a more or less slow creep towards the ultimate digital ID goal.

At the state level, the push is mostly focused on mobile driver’s licenses.

But the proponents of the schemes — who insist that the unprecedented centralization of personal information will provide for more trust and security — want things to start moving faster at the federal level, too.

One of the main cheerleaders here is Congressman Bill Foster, a Democrat. In September, he reintroduced a bill that, if adopted, would produce something called, the Improving Digital Identity Act.

Florida’s DeSantis Takes Matters Into Own Hands With Relief, Investigations After Federal Delays

From swift hurricane response times and deploying disaster relief resources to other states to spearheading an independent investigation into the second Donald Trump assassination attempt, Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis is charting a roadmap for state governors to take important issues into their own hands in the face of perceived federal government inaction.

The popular Florida Republican and former presidential candidate has boldly governed during the Biden era, developing a hotbed of resistance to federal policies and set up his administration as a sharp contrast with the federal government bureaucracy.

Harris Slammed for Pledging Millions to Lebanon as North Carolina Suffers

Users on social media took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris after the Democratic nominee took to X to pledge millions of dollars in aid for Lebanon at the same time residents of North Carolina struggle to recover from Hurricane Helene.

“This has to be fake. Even Kamala Harris, the gold standard of stupid, isn’t stupid enough to post this,” actor James Woods said on X Saturday. “Certainly not while North Carolinians are pulling the bodies of their neighbors from the wreckage. It’s simply inconceivable.”

The post came in response to Harris pledging Saturday to send $157 million of “additional assistance” to Lebanon, which, she argued, is “facing an increasingly dire humanitarian situation.”

Judge Rules Missouri Sex Offenders No Longer Need to Post ‘No Candy’ Warning Signs Outside Their Homes on Halloween

Missouri’s sex offenders no longer must place “no candy” warning signs outside their homes on Halloween, a federal judge ruled, arguing that part of the state’s law is unconstitutional.

A state law enacted in 2008 prohibited registered sex offenders from going outside to interact with children and from having outside lights on, and they are required to post a sign warning that “no candy or treats” are offered at the home on Halloween night, according to Fox 2.

But US District Judge John Ross on Wednesday ruled that the sign requirement portion of the law will no longer be enforced, starting this Halloween.

Kamala Harris Makes No Mention of Accusations Against Husband Doug Emhoff, Talks Combating Abuse During ‘Call Her Daddy’ Interview

Vice President Kamala Harris spoke of strategies to curtail sexual and other types of domestic violence during an interview on a wildly popular podcast Sunday, but the accusations against her husband that surfaced last week never came up.

In Sunday’s episode of “Call Her Daddy,” Harris, 59, passionately recalled how she began her career as a prosecutor inspired to take on domestic abusers, but host Alex Cooper, 30, declined to press the veep on the thorny topic of her husband allegedly drunkenly hitting an ex-girlfriend, avoiding the issue altogether.

Kamala Harris and Ukraine: Is the US Truly Committed to Ukrainian Victory?

During the recent US presidential debate, moderator David Muir posed the following question to the two candidates: “I want to ask you a very simple question tonight. Do you want Ukraine to win this war?”

Former president Donald Trump failed to provide a yes or no answer. He was criticised for this by Vice President Kamala Harris during the debate and by commentators in the wake of the event.

But while Harris provided a long-winded answer to the question, she too failed to say yes or no.

This is illustrative not only of the respective candidates’ views but of the US policy for Ukraine. It is not really clear that the United States wants Ukraine to win the war. While America obviously supports Ukraine, its primary strategic objective appears to be to avoid war with Russia. Avoiding World War III is a topic frequently raised by President Joe Biden.

In a Sunday interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, former First Lady Melania Trump revealed the challenges she faced post-White House, highlighting how her political affiliations led to punitive measures from various service providers, including her bank and an email service provider. This issue casts a light on the increasing trend of “debanking” and “deplatforming”—a form of censorship that has seen individuals and entities cut off from essential financial and communication services for non-criminal reasons.

Milton is Now a Category 1 Hurricane; DeSantis: ‘This is Not a Good Track for the State of Florida’

Following close behind Hurricane Helene and forecast to hit the west coast of the Florida peninsula by midweek, Milton has moved beyond being a tropical storm and has now strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane.

An advisory posted by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. EST stated: “Air Force hurricane hunters find Milton rapidly intensifying into a hurricane.”

Swells generated by the system have been impacting the coast of the southwestern Gulf of Mexico throughout the day. Per the NHC, “these swells are expected to spread northward and eastward along much of the Gulf Coast by early next week, and could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions,” according to Time.

About 60 people gathered for a vigil outside the office of Brooklyn council member Shahana Hanif, who they accused of having a “lack of support for Jewish constituents.”

Hanif, who represents Kensington, Boro Park, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, and Cobble Hill, faced outrage from Jewish members of those communities just days after the Oct. 7, 2023, attack when she posted tweets blaming Israel for the attack.

Cotton blasted Smith and called his actions a “temper tantrum,” according to The Washington Times.

Southern California Cop Shoots Dead Man Who Stabbed Him in Unprovoked Attack

A Southern California police officer fatally shot a man who stabbed and slashed him Saturday evening, according to authorities. The officer was speaking with a woman about an unrelated case in front of the Santa Monica Police Department headquarters, just steps from the city’s famous pier, when he was attacked, cops said.

A man in his 30s walked up to the officer and brandished the knife, the Santa Monica Police Department said in a Facebook post.

“Without warning, the individual attacked the officer while pulling a knife from his clothing,” the department wrote. “The suspect slashed and stabbed the officer.”

The cop, who was described by KCBS as around 35 years old, backed away and around the corner of a building, pulled his gun and shot the attacker dead, according to police.

“Santa Monica officers rendered medical aid to the subject until Santa Monica Fire Department took over life support efforts,” Santa Monica police said. “The subject was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The officer was hospitalized with serious injuries, KNBC reported but is expected to make a full recovery.

The Issue is the Revolution

“There is only one solution, intifada revolution,” mobs of college students chant at terror rallies.

What is there to ‘revolt’ against in New York City, Los Angeles or Chicago? The Hamas rallies like the BLM, environmentalist and other radical rallies take place in cities run by mayors and city councils who support their efforts and sometimes even show up to their events.

Even before New York City and other municipalities paid out millions in voluntary settlements to the BLM rioters who had assaulted police officers, the dirty secret of the radical mobs was that the authorities were on their side. And will continue to be on their side no matter what they do.

The revolution is also the thing that it’s revolting against.

Democrats secured control of the country’s major cities only to be faced with the timeless leftist challenge of making the intensification of their rule look like revolution rather than totalitarianism. The USSR and Cuba directed the ‘revolution’ outward by invading, conquering and intervening in other countries. Democrat cities nationalized their politics, building entire campaigns around Trump, abortion and (to their eventual regret) declaring themselves to be sanctuary cities.

As long as Republicans existed anywhere, urban Democrats could not sleep soundly at night.

Democrat control of cities and states didn’t end bipartisan politics, just turned it into a somewhat real and somewhat fake grudge match between the party’s really crazy and less crazy wings. Craziness was a variable like ‘X’ that was defined not by the common sense brakes of intellectual diversity, but by how far the really crazy wing could push the less crazy wing.

Bloc Quebecois Threatens to Force Election Next Week if Liberals Don’t Support Pension Bill

After voting with the Liberals against a Conservative non-confidence motion in exchange of “gains for Quebec,” BQ leader Yves-Francois Blanchet has threatened to “force” an early election next week if his demands aren’t met.

Blanchet’s threat to the government for an early election relies on the government’s response to a private member’s bill sponsored by a BQ MP, Bill C-319, asking the government to raise the income that Canadians aged 65 and older receive from Old Age Security pensions by 10%.

The bill would also “raise the exemption for a person’s employment income or self-employed earnings that is taken into account in determining the amount of the guaranteed income supplement from $5,000 to $6,500.”

Canadians in Every Province Earning Less Than Americans in Every State: Report

Canadians in every province are earning less than their American counterparts in every U.S. state, research from the Fraser Institute shows. Canadian incomes have fallen behind those in the U.S. between 2010 and 2022.

Of 10 provinces and 50 states, just one province, British Columbia, was ranked in the top half of growth in terms of earnings. An increase in earnings of $7,732 per person saw it rank 19th for the given time period.

Despite the increase, by 2022, British Columbia still ranked 52nd overall in median income per person. This was slightly behind Canada’s top province, Alberta, which had an income just shy of $39,000.

Most Canadians Are Against Liberal’s 2035 Gas-Powered Car Ban: Poll

Most Canadians are against the Trudeau government’s plan to ban new gas-fuelled cars by 2035.

In an attempt to move North America towards Ottawa’s net-zero goal, the Liberal’s zero-emission vehicle standard would ban the sale of personal gas, gas, diesel and hybrid-powered vehicles in just over a decade.

According to a Natural Resources Canada report, the plan, which would necessitate the mass installation of charging infrastructure and upgrades to the electrical grid, is expected to cost taxpayers nearly $300 billion by 2040.

According to a Leger 360 poll commissioned and released by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Canadians are not on board with the green-powered motion.

EU Uses Digital Services Act to Probe YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat Algorithms for Censorship Compliance

“Illegal drugs” is a very well-defined category in the EU. “Hate speech,” on the other hand, is not. Yet, the bloc is lumping these together as it builds another case for putting even more pressure on major social platforms and demands more data from them.

The EU is doing this via the censorship law, the Digital Services Act (DSA), and is this time targeting YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTok. In the tone and nature of the demands, the EU puts them in two groups here: two companies from the US, and one from China.

Previously, the EU launched DSA non-compliance proceedings against TikTok, AliExpress, but also Meta’s Instagram and Facebook.

The EU Commission this week announced that the “request for information” pertains to these tech platforms’ (algorithmic)recommendations, specifically, their design and functioning.

Scholz on October 7: Germany Will ‘Never Tolerate’ Anti-Semitism

Ship in Dire Need of Repairs Carries Explosive Cargo — But Can’t Dock Because Ports Fear Beirut-Type Explosion: ‘Floating Megabomb’

Ports throughout Europe have turned away a badly-damaged cargo ship because of its potentially explosive cargo: a mountain of Russian fertilizer that one foreign ambassador called a “floating megabomb.”

But it’s not just the MV Ruby’s load of 20,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate that’s giving port officials pause — even though a far smaller load of the same fertilizer component devastated the Port of Beirut in 2020 when it blew, according to the New York Times.

It’s that the 600-foot vessel — which is registered in Malta and owned by Ruby Enterprise, a Maltese company — is limping along the northern European coastline laden with Russian fertilizer from a Russian port.

We Will Not Let Our Country and Continent be Destroyed

by Geert Wilders

The hatred of extreme left-wing agitators and parts of the left-liberal elite in politics and the media against our Jewish compatriots and the State of Israel since the barbaric massacre of innocent civilians on October 7, 2023, has directly fueled anti-Semitism and hatred of Jews.

It started immediately after October 7 with inflammatory demonstrations of millions of people with false flags and slogans in many European capitals, including many non-Western immigrants, who thereby demonstrated that they do not share any of our values and do not belong here. Then followed the betrayal at universities and in parts of our media and politics. Both nationally and internationally, from the [Netherlands] House of Representatives to the EU and UN, as well as in newspapers and on TV. Every day again. There are now even police officers who refuse to protect Jewish objects and instead of being fired on the spot, their cowardly police chiefs show understanding.

We are as strong as our weakest link. And there are so many weak links. All of whom will be commemorating the massacres of a year ago on Monday with packs of butter on their heads [Dutch expression for hypocrites].

Experts Say it’s Possible for Hackers to Take Control of EV Features, Even Trigger Battery Fires

In September, thousands pagers and walkie-talkies held by members of Hezbollah exploded. The incident appears to have been the result of explosives hidden within the batteries of the devices by Israel’s intelligence service, Mossad, and the Israeli military, then triggered remotely.

While the devices appear to have been physically modified, the incident highlights a security concern for electric vehicles. The vehicles have a number of safety systems to prevent the battery from catching fire, and the battery packs in the vehicles are much larger than any hand-held device. Those safety systems run on software that can be hacked. When large lithium-ion battery packs catch fire, the result can be anywhere between a smoldering fire lasting months or something more explosive.

Israel-Turkey Ties Continue to Sour One Year Into the War on Gaza

When Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the opening of parliament last week, he warned that after Israel’s wars on Gaza and Lebanon end, Turkey could potentially be next.

“The next place [Israel] will set its eyes on, I tell you clearly, will be our homeland,” he said. “[Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s dreams include Anatolia. Whatever the cost, Turkey will continue to stand against Israel and invite the world to this honourable stance,” he added.

It was a stark departure from comments the 70-year-old made just a year ago when he met Netanyahu on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Back then, officials were boasting to the media that years after ties broke down in acrimony, they were finally on the up. According to the officials, both countries were ready to embark on a gas pipeline deal that could transport Israeli energy to Europe through Turkey.

But now, a year on, many of the extensive negotiations aimed at restoring bilateral relations have fallen by the wayside, with the leaders of both countries continually engaging in verbal spats.

Ukraine ‘Conscription Squads’ Grabbing Men Off Streets to Fight in War: Report

South Korea: Study Proves COVID ‘Vaccines’ Cause Mental Illness

A major study has uncovered evidence of psychiatric adverse events from Covid mRNA “vaccines,” proving that the injections have caused a surge in mental illness.

The study was conducted by leading researchers in South Korea who analyzed the data of over two million residents in the nation’s capital city Seoul.

The authors randomly selected participants from 50 percent of Seoul’s resident population aged 20 and older.

Those included in the study were randomly selected from the Korean National Health Insurance Service (KNHIS) claims database.

A total of 2,027,353 participants were divided into two groups — vaccinated and non-vaccinated — according to their Covid vaccination status.

The study found that cases of depression, anxiety, dissociative, stress-related, somatoform disorders, and sleep disorders surged among those who had received mRNA shots.

The scientific paper, titled “Psychiatric adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination: a population-based cohort study in Seoul, South Korea,” was published in the prestigious peer-reviewed medical journal Nature.

Migrant Imprisonment Rate Over a Quarter Higher Than for British Citizens: Report

The imprisonment rate for foreign nationals is 27 per cent higher than British citizens, according to an analysis of data from the government.

A project to create the first “league table of criminality by nationality” conducted by The Telegraph newspaper analysed the number of people in jail by the passport they hold and compared that with 2021 Census data to create a picture of the likelihood of criminality of various ethnic groups in Britain.

The analysis found that there were 18.2 prisoners per 10,000 migrants living in Britain compared to 14 out of 10,000 UK citizens, meaning that foreigners have a 27 per cent higher imprisonment rate. However, the differences become more stark when looking at specific ethnicities.

By far and away, Albanian migrants were the most likely to be imprisoned, with a rate of 232.33 out of 10,000 people, or one in 50. Second on the list was people from Kosovo at 150.23 per 10,000, followed by Vietnamese (148.88), Algerians (124.41), Jamaicans (110.77), Eritreans (110.7), Iraqis (104.43), and Somalis (100.37). The figures mean that such ethnicities are at least seven times more prone to be imprisoned than British citizens.

There are some ethnicities which actually fare better than the native population in terms of avoiding criminality, however, with people from Germany being the least likely to be imrpisoned of any group at just 4.68 per 10,000. This was followed by migrants from Italy (4.96), India (6.24), Greece (6.36), US (7.27), Sri Lanka (8.17), France (8.64), and China (9.39).
