In Germany Tax Revenue Projections Revised Downward Until 2028

The German economy’s struggles are reflected in a significant downward revision of expected tax revenues, according to the latest tax estimate, as reported by SPIEGEL. Finance Minister Lindner views this as validation of his austerity measures.

Projections for the federal government, states, and municipalities indicate substantially lower tax revenues compared to previous estimates. The Tax Estimation Working Group presented forecasts for 2024 to 2028, revealing an €80.7 billion shortfall for the entire state over the five-year period. The federal government faces a €41.6 billion revenue deficit, with a €11.0 billion deficit forecasted for 2025 alone.

UK Economic Growth Tops Eurozone’s

The UK economy has done better than the Eurozone’s, according to newly published economic data from the European Commission.

Despite widespread criticism of the British peoples’ choice for Brexit in 2016, at least on the economic front it seems to have resulted in better consequences than predicted.

In its spring 2024 Economic Forecast, the EC said the Eurozone was showing minimal growth after a prolonged period of stagnation and it said a recession was likely to have occurred in the second half of 2023.

Across the Channel, the UK produced twice the EU’s economic growth rate during the first quarter of this year, the EC report showed.

Cohen Destroyed: Trump Lawyer “Dog Walks” Star Witness Through Lie After Lie, CNN Pundits Aghast

President Donald Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen had his “knees chopped out” by Donald Trump’s defense attorneys in cross-examination during Trump’s ‘hush money’ trial.

Cohen was grilled by Trump attorney Todd Blanche about a pivotal phone call that connected Trump to allegations that he approved reimbursements to pay porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. In one exchange, Blanche accused Cohen of lying about speaking with Trump on the phone in October 2016 to reassure his boss that he was handling the payment to Daniels.

Blanche then confronted Cohen with text messages that contradicted the lie — revealing that Cohen in fact spoke with Trump’s bodyguard, Keith Schiller.

GPT-4o Revolutionizes AI With Singing, Emotion Recognition, and Real-Time Translation

Industry-specific media and bloggers who have since tested the new features call this version “crazy,” “sensational,” “revolutionary,” and other such epithets. They say that developers have, for the first time, managed to bring the program closer to the model of real human communication.

GPT-4o can sing, change voice intonation, recognize user emotions, and analyze visual information.

For example, the AI used the front camera and speaker of a phone to recognize a person. Then it very precisely described their clothing and emotions, the features of the room, and even noticed when a colleague snuck up behind and made “bunny ears.” After that, based on what it saw and heard, GPT-4o composed and performed a song.

Trump Says He Believes a ‘Great Silent Majority’ Will Vote for Him in November

Authored by Jack Phillips via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours)

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he believes he has a “great silent majority” who will vote for him during the 2024 election.

While speaking to radio host Hugh Hewitt, the former president claimed that he may have the “biggest ever” silent majority, using a term that was popularized by former President Richard Nixon in 1969. He then made reference to the relatively large crowd turnout during last weekend’s rally in Wildwood, New Jersey.

“I have a great silent majority … the term was very, very powerfully associated with Nixon, and I didn’t want to be copying the term actually, so it’s the great silent majority,” President Trump said, adding that he believes that 107,000 people attended the Wildwood rally. The Epoch Times could not immediately authenticate that figure.

Forest Fires Threaten Fort McMurray Again, Canada: Evacuation Ongoing

Evacuation is underway in Canada as wildfires threaten Fort McMurray once again, as reported by RMF24.

Once again, wildfires are wreaking havoc in the Canadian province of Alberta. Among the areas at risk is Fort McMurray, which faced the largest forest fire in Canada’s history eight years ago. With the fire rapidly spreading, authorities have taken action to evacuate over 6,000 individuals.

The wildfires have already consumed around 21,000 hectares of forests near Fort McMurray. Consequently, regional authorities declared a state of emergency on Tuesday and issued evacuation orders for certain residents to facilitate firefighting efforts. Residents in the specified zones were instructed to evacuate their homes by 4:00 p.m. local time. Jody Butz, the fire chief in the area, confirmed that the evacuation order applies to approximately 6,600 people.

Dutch Sales Tax on Books, Concerts, Theater Tickets Will Rise From 9 to 21 Percent

The four parties that negotiated a new governing coalition in the Netherlands plan to increase the value added tax on accommodations, books, concerts, museums, theater performances, and visits to events and attractions. These currently are subjected to a lower tax rate of 9 percent, but that will swell to the upper sales tax rate of 21 percent paid for most goods and services in the Netherlands, the PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB stated in their agreement.

The change should bring in a minimum of 1.2 billion euros annually starting in 2026, the coalition parties argued. The low 9 percent rate will only remain valid for campsites, cinemas, and some other forms of daily recreation.

Dutch Embassy Could Move to Jerusalem Despite Criticism From Palestinian Rights Groups

The planned coalition of the PVV, VVD, NSC, and BBB wants to move the Dutch embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the parties wrote in their agreement. “The Netherlands supports the right of existence and the safety of the State of Israel,” wrote the four parties, which is a strong shift for the VVD, as well as NSC leader Pieter Omtzigt.

“Considering the solutions for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the diplomatic interests, research will be done into when the best time is to move the embassy to Jerusalem.” Only a few countries have embassies in Jerusalem, as both the Israelis and Palestinians consider it to be their capital. Jordan controlled the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, until they lost it to Israel during the Six Day War. The divided city also makes the decision to locate an embassy there controversial, even though Israel’s seat of government is in West Jerusalem.

Dutch Debate About Political Pressure in Science Cancelled Due to Political Pressure Over Israel

An event at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) has been cancelled over the stance on the conflict between Israel and Palestine of two leading academics who were due to take part.

Dutch-speaking Belgian philosopher Dr Maarten Boudry and American biologist Dr Jerry Coyne were set to take part in a debate on May 17 on the ideological subversion of biology and how politics influences science.

On May 14 they were informed by the organisers, Betabreak, that the event was cancelled because “members of the committee did not feel comfortable” offering both academics a platform “given their stances on the Palestine/Israel conflict”.

Betabreak also argued it was concerned that giving both academics a platform would “reflect” badly on the organisation and that it “might be blackballed”.

Europe is Facing a Shortage of Apartments, With Real Estate Prices Tripling

Throughout Europe, there’s a shortage of tens of thousands of apartments, leading to a threefold increase in real estate prices, as reported by Novinky.cz. Expensive housing is posing challenges not just in the Czech Republic but also across other European nations.

While property prices mostly saw a decline in the past year, it wasn’t sufficient to counterbalance the previous period of robust price growth. Eurostat’s report indicates that between 2010 and 2022, apartments and houses saw an average price hike of 47 percent.

Some countries experienced even sharper increases, surpassing the rate of income growth. For instance, Estonia saw property prices surge by 192 percent over twelve years, while Hungary experienced a 172 percent increase. Meanwhile, Eurostat notes a 126 percent rise in prices in the Czech Republic. In addition to property prices, rents also climbed, albeit at a slower rate. The EU average stood at 18 percent, but in the Czech Republic, it rose by over a third.

But in the same breath, the EU bureaucrat was not shy to make unsubstantiated accusations against some European politicians — specifically the opposition in her native Germany, that’s rapidly gaining in popularity — describing them as being “in the pockets of Russia.”

She also pledged that the European Commission under her continued leadership will make “European Democracy Shield” a priority.

Options Narrow for Palestinians Looking to Escape Gaza

For much of Israel’s war in Gaza, people with enough money were able to pay a private company to rescue their family members from the enclave. Now, even that is becoming more difficult.

NASSER NAJJAR, a former Red Cross spokesperson and Human Rights Watch researcher who lives in Vancouver, paid upwards of $60,000 last month to get several family members out of Gaza. His parents and one of his sisters managed to leave in late April, while his other sister, her mother-in-law, her husband and their daughter are still in Gaza.

Najjar told NatSec Daily the call about who to try to get out first was a “nightmare,” adding: “You’re making life and death decisions.”

The four others were supposed to cross the border in early May — but Israel’s military operation into the southern city of Rafah last week prevented that, he said. An Egyptian company that facilitates transport for those trying to leave hasn’t been able to enter the enclave, since Israel seized the main crossing there, he added.

“Every day is worse than the other,” Najjar said of his family’s situation in Gaza. “If you’re in the middle and the southern areas, you still depend on Rafah for food and other aid — and there’s not much coming in.”

There are signs that more humanitarian assistance could begin to flow into the territory soon. The U.S. military finished installing its floating pier off the coast of Gaza today, and troops are expected to begin ferrying aid to the shore in the coming days — if everything goes according to plan. The project has faced logistical, weather and security challenges, and aid groups say the pier and airdrops are no substitute for bringing aid in with trucks.

In Talks With Putin Amid Ukraine War, Xi Calls Russia-China Ties a ‘Strong Driving Force’

Russian President Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping put their countries’ partnership on red-carpet display in Beijing on Thursday, aiming to project a unified alternative to the West as each faces pressure amid Moscow’s war on Ukraine.

President Xi received Putin outside the Great Hall of the People while uniformed bands played, soldiers stood at attention and cannons and rifles fired.

The welcome and celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations was followed by a 21/2-hour meeting and a joint news conference, where the leaders signed declarations to deepen cooperation between their nations.

“China-Russia relations have withstood the test of time and become even stronger,” Xi said in televised remarks after the meeting with Putin. “The generational friendship and comprehensive cooperation between China and Russia have formed a strong driving force that allows us to move forward without fear of wind and rain.”

Putin’s two-day visit, his first international trip since starting his unprecedented fifth term as president amid a crackdown on his opposition, came as both countries faced pressure or isolation from the West. The U.S. has warned Xi against enabling Putin’s assault on Ukraine through enhanced trade and economic cooperation.

Get Woke, Go Broke: New “Queer” ‘Doctor Who’ Suffers Worst Ratings in Series History

Woke activists today often like to hearken back to nostalgic media from the 1960s; what they consider the golden era or genesis moment of far-left movements in British and US history. These were the days when being a progressive was considered “counter-culture” and cool, with every major rock star and celebrity tapping into youth angst and hippie philosophy. The progressive shift led to considerable social instability in the 1970s.

It is common these days to hear leftists in popular media argue that TV shows like Star Trek or Doctor Who were “always woke” and that they are simply carrying on the tradition. This is simply not true. While many productions in the US and in Europe displayed liberal sensibilities, woke activists are not liberal and do not hold liberal values. They are, rather, a hybrid ideology combining elements of Marxism/communism/fascism, collectivism, moral relativism and narcissism.

One could argue that the woke cult is the natural end state, the unavoidable final evolution of liberal thinking. That may be true, but that’s a debate for another day. The point is, the woke activism of today has very little in common with the political movements of the 1960s. In fact, if you were to go back in time only 15 years ago and tried to explain to a typical Democrat in the US or Labour member in the UK what leftists are trying to get away with in 2024, they would laugh in your face and call you crazy.

In our decade nearly every major television and film franchise of the past has received the woke treatment; what leftists call “updating for modern audiences.” As a consequence, nearly every franchise has suffered an extreme collapse in audience number, ad revenues and box office receipts. Why? Because woke ideology is a fringe movement making up a tiny percentage of the population. Almost no one likes it, hence the reason why “Get Woke, Go Broke” has become a rule rather than a theory.

Doctor Who has not been able to escape this rule despite being considered an open sci-fi world where almost anything goes. The problem is, it doesn’t matter what the canon technically allows or what the writers want — In the end the fans always dictate what succeeds and what fails. When a show starts preaching at people about respecting gender pronouns, they aren’t going to stick around to see what happens next.

  1. Are you a prophet Baron?

Quote: Mr. Cintula is facing life in prison if convicted of the attack on Mr. Fico.

    IF! that is the keyword.

They will declare him to be insane or something like that and release him in a few years quietly.
Or they will declare open season on us and then he will be given the highest medal.

  2. The FICO assassin had a relationship with a Ukrainian women who had been active in the Maidan protests. I read she had been arrested as well as she was probably the instigator, nagging him incessantly to do it. You know what these women are like. They convince their partners to do all sorts of things like kill ex husbands etc etc. I’m not one of them.
