Brain Implants Will Replace Smartphones in the Future — Elon Musk

In the future, people will stop using phones and will instead use brain implants for communication. This statement was made by American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk.

Earlier, the parody account Not Elon Musk on social media platform X asked users if they would install a Neuralink interface in their brain to control their new X phone with the power of thought. Elon Musk himself responded to this post, stating that mobile devices would no longer be needed in the future.

“In the future, there will be no phones, only Neuralink,” wrote the businessman.

It is worth recalling that in January, Musk announced that the first person had received an implant from his company Neuralink and was feeling well. At that time, the entrepreneur noted that the initial data on the device’s performance showed promising results. However, in May, it was reported that the first-ever brain implant had failed.

Breaking: House GOP Moves to Reverse J6 Committee Subpoena Against Trump Advisors Days Before Steve Bannon is Set to Report to Prison

GOP Rep. Eric Burlison, Thomas Massie, and others in the House GOP have co-sponsored a resolution to rescind subpoenas from the J6 committee that were brought against Steve Bannon, Mark Meadows, Dan Scavino, and Peter Navarro. This would also immediately remove the contempt of Congress convictions, as if there were no subpoenas, there would be no contempt. Bannon is required to report to prison to begin his 4-month sentence on July 1.

“It is past time for the House of Representatives to take action to begin undoing the harm that was caused by the illegitimate January 6th Committee,” Rep. Burlison said in a press release. “This is the right thing to do, and I hope all members of the House will join me in this effort.”

The purpose of the resolution is to rescind “the subpoenas issued by the January 6th Select Committee on September 23, 2021, October 6, 2021, and February 9, 2022, and withdrawing the recommendations finding Stephen K. Bannon, Mark Randall Meadows, Daniel Scavino, Jr., and Peter K. Navarro in contempt of Congress.”

Club Q Shooter Pleads Guilty to 74 Federal Hate Crime, Weapons Charges

The 24-year-old shooter who killed five people and wounded 22 others at a Colorado Springs LGBTQ nightclub in 2022 pleaded guilty Tuesday to 74 federal hate crime and weapons charges stemming from the Club Q attack. If U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney accepts the plea deal with prosecutors, Anderson Lee Aldrich will be sentenced to life in prison plus 190 years.

Aldrich is already serving five life sentences plus 2,208 years after pleading guilty to five counts of first-degree murder and related counts in state court last year.

The sentencing hearing is ongoing in the U.S. District Court of Colorado in downtown Denver. Sweeney said she will wait until survivors of the attack get their chance to speak before accepting the plea agreement.

Sweeney asked whether Aldrich wanted to speak, and Aldrich said not at this time. When the judge said it was now or never, Aldrich said they believed there would be an opportunity to speak again, whether in or out of court.

Aldrich killed Daniel Davis Aston, 28; Kelly Loving, 40; Ashley Paugh, 35; Derrick Rump, 38; and Raymond Green Vance, 22, walking into the club just before midnight on Nov 19, 2022, and opening fire as patrons screamed and ran for cover.

Dem-Majority FCC Helping George Soros Fast-Track Takeover of Nationwide Radio Network: ‘This is Scary’

Left-leaning billionaire George Soros is trying to recruit the Democrat-controlled Federal Communications Commission to help fast track his takeover of the nation’s second-biggest radio network.

Soros, 93, pumped $400 million into Audacy in February, a network which reaches 165 million monthly listeners and includes a handful of conservative shows from hosts including Sean Hannity, Dana Loesch, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck and Erick Erickson.

But their influence is likely to be muted if the billionaire takes over and imposes his agenda, as has happened with other media acquisitions.

Indian Suspect in Plot to Kill Sikh Separatist Pleads Not Guilty in US Court

An Indian man suspected by the U.S. of involvement in an unsuccessful Indian government-backed plot to kill a Sikh separatist on American soil pleaded not guilty on Monday to murder-for-hire conspiracy charges in federal court in Manhattan, Reuters reported.

Nikhil Gupta has been accused by U.S. federal prosecutors of plotting with an Indian government official to kill Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a U.S. resident who advocated for a sovereign Sikh state in northern India.

Last June, Gupta traveled to Prague from India and was arrested by Czech authorities. A Czech court last month rejected his petition to avoid being sent to the U.S. He was extradited to the U.S. on Friday, Czech Justice Minister Pavel Blazek said.

At a hearing on Monday in Manhattan, U.S. Magistrate Judge James Cott ordered Gupta, 52, detained at least until the next conference in his case on June 28. Gupta is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, U.S. Bureau of Prisons records showed.

Jeffrey Chabrowe, Gupta’s defense lawyer, said it was important not to rush to conclusions.

Majority of Americans Support Medical Debt Forgiveness, Poll Reveals

A significant majority of Americans are in favor of forgiving medical debt, according to a recent poll conducted by the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. The findings underscore a growing sentiment toward alleviating financial burdens stemming from medical treatments.

Janille Williams, a 38-year-old retail sales manager from Fairbanks, Alaska, shared his struggle with medical debt after a severe illness left him with a bill exceeding $300,000. Despite negotiations lowering it to $50,000, Williams found it unmanageable, especially without health insurance during a job transition.

The poll reveals that approximately half of Americans consider it extremely or very important for the U.S. government to offer debt relief to individuals burdened by medical expenses, reflecting increased public support following the pandemic. Various cities and states, including Connecticut, New York City, New Orleans, and Chicago, have already begun implementing their own versions of medical debt forgiveness, with the Biden administration proposing a rule to erase consumer medical debt from credit reports.

Support for forgiveness is particularly strong in cases involving health care fraud, with about two-thirds of adults backing relief for those wrongfully billed. Additionally, a majority favors forgiveness for individuals with significant medical debt relative to their income, or facing financial hardship. Denise Early, 65, of Omaha, Nebraska, highlighted her struggles after an injury at work led to multiple surgeries and bankruptcy, emphasizing how forgiveness could alleviate her financial strain.

While student loan debt reduction has been a focus for President Biden, the poll indicates a higher priority among Americans for medical debt relief. The survey also reflects bipartisan support for forgiveness in cases of fraud, though Democrats show greater support overall compared to Republicans, especially in instances of financial hardship.

Matt Haskell, a 24-year-old Republican from Englewood, Florida, expressed his support for debt forgiveness based on personal experience with unexpectedly high medical bills after an eye injury.

“I generally think it’s never anybody’s fault when they have a medical condition,” Haskell said. “If they get cancer or a tumor or have an episode from undiagnosed diabetes — it’s not someone’s fault if they develop something and now they’re thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.”

The poll findings highlight a nationwide sentiment calling for compassionate solutions to alleviate the financial impact of medical emergencies, reflecting a broader conversation on economic stability and access to healthcare in the United States.

Oakland Far-Left Academic Arrested Over Multiple Arson Attacks at UC Berkeley

A far-left extremist, who was charged last year in connection with a violent assault at a women’s conference, has been arrested yet again, this time for allegedly carrying out a series of arson attacks at UC Berkeley in the name of Palestine. Casey Robert Goonan, 34, was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County on Monday for conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of a destructive device, possession of an explosive on a public street, making a destructive device without a permit, using an explosive device, arson on forest land, and arson, all of which are felonies. Berekely Scanner reported the arrest.

Goonan, who holds a PhD in African studies from Northwestern University and has a history of advocating for the abolition of prisons, is being held on $1 million bail. Members of far-left groups have praised his actions, and have begun trying to raise the money necessary to free him. In September of last year, he was arrested and charged with both felony vandalism and resisting arrest. His actions resulted in injuries to two members of the SFPD during his escape attempt. This was as he tried to disrupt the Women’s Declaration International US event attended by 100 or so gender critical feminists. The event featured women speaking on the right to free speech in academia as a female as well as issues concerning black women, lesbians, and detransitioned women.

Only 28% of the Public Has “High Confidence” in Higher Education; New Poll Finds

Authored by Jonathan Turley

A new poll conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago (commissioned by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression) shows that only 28% of Americans have a lot of trust in higher education. Academia has continued to alienate much of the country as an orthodox echo chamber. As with media outlets, the result has been falling interest and trust in these institutions. The poll asked “How much confidence, if any, do you have in U.S. colleges and universities?”

Only 28% said they had a “great deal of confidence in colleges and universities.”

Not surprisingly, given the ideological balance at most schools, the highest levels of trust came from Democrats and liberals. However, even this group only showed a 40% high confidence rate. Among Republicans, it drops to 12% and among independents it drops to 28%.

Asheville police say the incident happened on May 31, 2024, in the 30 block of Biltmore Avenue.

The victim told police that Julien Bryan McArthur approached him and his family while they were walking and asked for money. The victim, who was visiting from South Carolina, said he refused and continued walking.

Minutes later, the victim said he was helping his family get into their car when he felt a sting in his back. Police said the victim turned around and saw the suspect picking up a hypodermic needle from the ground.

The victim went to Mission Hospital for treatment. He’s since been released and remains on antibiotics, according to authorities.

McArthur was arrested on June 17 and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury, resisting a public officer and solicitor alms/beg for money. He’s currently in the Buncombe County Detention Center under a $51,000 secured bond.

San Bernardino County to Release Report Central to Secession Talk

After more than a year of study, San Bernardino County is preparing to release a report on whether those who feel the state government overlooks the county — the basis for a November 2022 measure to potentially secede from California — have a point.

The report is expected to be presented to the Board of Supervisors in coming weeks, officials say.

In 2022, the question was posed to voters this way:

“Do the people of San Bernardino County want San Bernardino County elected representatives to study and advocate for all options to obtain the county’s fair share of State funding up to and including secession from the State of California?”

A narrow majority — 50.62% of voters — said they did, supporting Measure EE.

Surgeon General Murthy Advocates for Digital ID to Combat Online “Misinformation” and Protect Youth

This time, the New York Times and US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy got together, with Murthy’s own slant on what opponents might see as another push to muzzle social media ahead of the November vote, under any pretext.

A pretext is, as per Murthy: new legislation that would “shield young people from online harassment, abuse and exploitation,” and there’s disinformation and such, of course.

Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., whose committee has oversight over the Interior Department, also questioned in a Thursday letter whether politics played a role in how the chaos concluded with a “disturbing” lack of arrests.

The letter, obtained by Fox News Digital, recounted assaults on U.S. Park Police and a National Park Service ranger at Lafayette Park — which lies just north of the White House — as thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators amassed to protest the administration.

Trump’s Bid to Lift ‘Gag Order’ Rejected by New York Appeals Court

President Donald Trump’s bid to have the “gag order” against him lifted has been rejected by the New York Court of Appeals.

The court issued the ruling on Tuesday, citing that “no substantial constitutional question is directly involved.”

The “gag order” was imposed by Democrat Judge Juan Merchan during the so-called “hush money” trail in New York.

Merchan’s order restricts Trump, the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee, from speaking about witnesses and the case.

However, the order has remained in place even though Trump’s trial has concluded.

Washington Post Calls for Hillary Clinton to Replace Kamala Harris: She Can ‘Keep the Country on Track’ if ‘Biden Needs to Step Down’

The Washington Post has called on Democrats to replace Vice President Kamala Harris on the party’s 2024 ticket with twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

In a new article, the left-wing newspaper argues that Clinton would be best suited to “keep the country on track” in the likely event that Democrat President Joe Biden “needs to step down.”

Interestingly, the Post appears to believe that, if Biden does make it to Election Day and manages to beat President Donald Trump, then he won’t complete another term.

Alarmingly, the outlet is apparently advocating for Hillary Clinton to replace Biden as POTUS.

PM Trudeau Refuses to Say if Liberal MPs Are Implicated in Foreign Interference

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau won’t say whether or not Liberal MPs were implicated in the bombshell NSICOP report on foreign interference.

Attending this year’s G7 conference held in Italy, Trudeau was asked several questions about the findings in NSICOP’s Special Report on Foreign Interference in Canada’s Democratic Processes and Institutions.

The report concluded that several MPs had collaborated with foreign governments for personal gain.

Upon being asked whether or not any Liberal MPs were named as witting or semi-witting participants in aiding foreign governments, Trudeau boasted about his government’s record in creating NSICOP in 2017 and establishing the public inquiry on foreign interference.

6.4 Million Seniors Play Video Games in Germany

A new report from the gaming industry association reveals that 6.4 million Germans over 60 are gaming. The average age of gamers in Germany has risen to 38.2 years, up from 33.6 a decade ago. This trend reflects the growing number of “Silver Gamers”—those aged 60 and above, as reported by Spiegel.

The report, based on data from Consumer Panel Services GfK, highlights that many gamers from the 1980s and 1990s have continued their hobby into older age. The rise in average age is also influenced by the accessibility of games on smartphones.

Currently, over three-quarters of German gamers are at least 18 years old, with a gender split of 52% male and 48% female. Approximately 58% of people aged 6 to 69 in Germany play video games occasionally.

Felix Falk, CEO of the gaming association, notes that the increase in senior gamers is significant, with about 300,000 more seniors gaming in the past year alone, equating to the population of Münster.

For more on gaming in later life, read about an 88-year-old “Skyrim” player and a daughter’s attempt to introduce her 75-year-old mother to classic video games.

East German Authorities Publish ‘Nazi Atlas’ Targeting Right-Wing Property

Authorities in Germany have published a document outlining right-wing acquisition and use of private property in the country’s East.

Dubbed the so-called “Nazi atlas” by German tabloid news outlets, it details examples of property already used by alleged “extremist” organisations and methods individuals and local authorities can use to sabotage such groups.

In the document, state authorities in Germany’s east encouraged municipalities to weaponise listed building rules, environmental laws and even fire regulations to prevent right-wing groups from buying, renting or using property they legally own.

Such instances of lawfare, they argued, are fully justified in service of protecting “democracy”.

Patrick Breyer, a member of the German Pirate Party, suggested that the Council of the European Union, which Belgium currently chairs, could attempt to push through the EU’s controversial “chat control” rules as soon as June 19.

That is despite complaints from numerous companies and digital-rights activists that the rules would undermine encryption throughout Europe.

EU Establishes Audit Board to Oversee Ukraine Facility Funds

The European Union has created the Audit Board of the Ukraine Facility to ensure constant monitoring and control of the funds allocated to Ukraine, aiming to prevent abuse and ensure proper use of EU financial assistance. The board, consisting of three members and supported by a Secretariat in Kyiv, will scrutinize Ukraine’s management and control systems.

“The Audit Board shall assist the Commission in assessing the effectiveness of Ukraine’s management and control systems regarding the funds provided under the Facility and in fighting mismanagement of Union funding under the Ukraine Facility and, in particular fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest and irregularities,” stated the European Commission in a report dated June 12.

Members of the Audit Board will be appointed by the Commission following a call for expressions of interest. These members must be EU citizens with a proven track record in audit, monitoring, control, or fighting fraud, corruption, and irregularities, ideally acquired in senior positions within EU institutions or member state public authorities. Appointed as special advisers to the Commission, they will serve a term of two years.

The Audit Board is required to submit reports to the Commission at least every three months, detailing their assessment of the Ukrainian management and control systems’ performance and effectiveness. Any identified cases or serious concerns regarding the mismanagement of funds will be immediately reported to the Commission.

The Ukraine Facility, operational from 2024 to 2027, will provide EUR 50 billion in EU financial and technical assistance to Ukraine. This includes EUR 38.27 billion for budgetary support, EUR 6.97 billion for an investment fund, and EUR 4.76 billion for technical and administrative support.

French Civil Servants ‘Will Not Obey’ Hard-Right RN if it Takes Power

More than 200 civil servants in France’s education sector have vowed resistance to the hard-right National Rally (RN) ahead of upcoming snap general elections.

“In conscience and responsibility, we will not obey,” they said on June 14.

They warned that the hard-right’s potential ascension to power in France could undermine the “Republican values” that make up part of France’s educational framework.

“On July 8 [following French elections], the far-right may be in power. Tomorrow, perhaps, our next minister from its ranks will demand that our managers apply directives, implement policies or organise teaching in opposition to the republican values that underpin our professions and justify our commitments,” they said.

“We will not accept this. In all conscience and responsibility, we will not obey,” they added.

French Far-Left Politician Suggests ‘Eradicating’ Right-Wing Populists

Right-wing populist politicians should be “eradicated”, a leading member of the far-left New Popular Front election alliance in France said in a supposed slip of the tongue.

Clémentine Autain has come under criticism for appearing to suggest on national television in France a preference for violence against right-wing populist politicians for Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN) party.

“If we could eradicate them all that would be great,” she said on broadcaster LCI as reported by the Entrevue magazine while stressing the need for a majority in the National Assembly for the leftist New Popular Front, comprised of her own leftist La France Insoumise (LFI) party, the Socialists, the green Écologistes, and the French Communist Party.

German National Security ‘Tense’, Says Country’s Interior Minister

Nancy Faeser said the country was battling internal and external threats — including espionage attempts from a trio of countries — with the department thwarting bomb attempts in the last year.

Germany’s democracy is strong, but its security remains tense, according to the country’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser.

Faeser made the comments on Tuesday in Berlin while her department, responsible for internal security and protection of constitutional order, handed down its 2023 annual report.

Germany, Denmark, and Hungary Agree to Jointly Purchase Skyranger Air Defense Systems

Germany, Denmark, and Hungary signed a letter of intent on Tuesday, June 18, for the joint procurement of Skyranger air defense systems. This was reported by the German Ministry of Defense.

The signing took place in Paris. The air defense systems will be purchased as part of the joint European air defense project “Sky Shield.” According to the German Ministry of Defense, the system can be integrated, for example, into Boxer vehicles.

In May, the German government cautiously responded to an initiative by Greece and Poland to create a new European air defense system led by the EU.

It was previously reported that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk approached European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen with a request to lead the initiative to create a common air defense shield funded by the EU.

Von der Leyen confirmed the proposal from the prime ministers of both countries when she again called for the creation of joint defense projects.

Germany: Berlin Faces Crucial Decision on Enforcing Gazprom Damages Amid Energy Uncertainty

Uniper SE, Germany’s major energy company and recipient of a significant bailout during the 2022 crisis, is once again at a crossroads due to its halted gas supply from Russia. The next decisions will influence the duration of Russia’s gas flow to Europe.

Last week, Uniper was awarded over €13 billion ($13.9 billion) in damages for losses incurred when Gazprom PJSC reduced deliveries during the energy crisis. Now, the German government, Uniper’s owner, must decide how aggressively to enforce this ruling.

Gazprom is unlikely to pay the damages, and the company has few assets in Europe that can be seized for compensation.

However, Austria, Germany’s neighbor, continues to import substantial amounts of gas through OMV AG, and these payments could potentially be redirected, although this might discourage Gazprom from continuing gas deliveries.

This situation presents a dilemma for Berlin and Vienna. German policymakers have a duty to uphold claims owed to taxpayers and strengthen the nationalized company. Austria, facing elections this year, risks boosting populist sentiments if Gazprom halts gas deliveries, raising energy prices. Hungary has already taken steps to avoid a similar scenario, highlighting the political risks of such court rulings.

Despite the sensitivity, Berlin and Vienna could explore alternative arrangements for Austria that exclude Russian gas.

OMV has indicated that it can fulfill customer contracts without relying on Moscow, thanks to a diverse supplier network. The company continues to take Gazprom’s gas mainly due to binding long-term contracts.

The prospect of reduced supplies has caused unease in Europe’s gas market. Traders, already doubtful about Russian gas flows continuing past this year due to an expiring pipeline transit agreement, are striving to fill inventories before winter.

Additionally, unexpected outages and global heat waves threaten the delicate balance of gas supply.

No matter the course Berlin chooses, it must proceed with caution.

Hungarian PM Viktor Orban Officially Backs Rutte as Next NATO Chief

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is endorsing Mark Rutte as the next secretary-general of NATO. Orban obstructed the appointment for several months but had a “good conversation” with the outgoing Dutch prime minister on Monday. He said during the meeting that he was willing to endorse him.

Romania is the only country that has not announced its support for Rutte, with a unanimous decision needed to fill the top position. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis is also a candidate to replace the outgoing secretary-general, Jens Stoltenberg, but he no longer has the support of any of the allied nations.

Hungary Chooses Slogan for EU Presidency: “Make Europe Great Again”

Hungary has selected the phrase “Make Europe Great Again” as its slogan during its presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2024, drawing inspiration from former US President Donald Trump. This announcement was made by the Hungarian Minister for European Affairs, Janos Bóka, as reported by Telex.

Bóka stated that Hungary will chair the EU Council “as an honest broker” and sees this role as an opportunity to initiate debates and set direction on important issues.

He specifically mentioned that Budapest aims for “objective and reliable” enlargement and seeks to make progress with all Balkan candidates. Hungary also sees “enthusiasm for enlargement” in the “Eastern Trio” of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia.

The branding for Hungary’s presidency, presented at a briefing, integrates the flags of the EU and Hungary and features a Rubik’s cube, a well-known Hungarian invention. The slogan “Make Europe Great Again,” as explained by the European minister, reflects the idea that the EU can act independently. When asked about the similarity to Trump’s slogan, he responded that it is a continuation of the slogan from Hungary’s previous presidency of a “strong Europe” in 2011.

During Hungary’s presidency, about 230 events are planned, including 16 informal meetings at the ministerial level, as well as an informal summit of EU leaders and a summit of the European Political Community in Hungary.

In Poland, the First Military Training for Youth Has Begun, With a Total of 11,000 Registered Participants

The first of three military courses for young people who want to gain basic skills has started in Poland, with over 11,000 applicants in total, reports Dzennik Gazeta Prawna.

During the first “shift” of the Ministry of Defense’s “Vacation with the Army” program, around 3,500 young men and women are being trained at thirty different locations across the country. The course started last week.

In total, three courses are planned for the summer of 2024, with over 11,000 participants registered. Girls make up about 20% of them.

“Given that the program is designed for youth aged 18-35, the interest is indeed significant,” notes Renata Mycko, a representative of the Central Military Recruitment Center.

This year, the Ministry of Defense also called on high school graduates to undergo a basic one-month training program, offering compensation as if it were a job.

Informal EU Summit in Brussels Discusses New Leadership

An informal European Union summit took place in Brussels yesterday, where the candidacy for the new EU leadership was discussed. Outgoing European Council President Charles Michel stated that an agreement had not yet been reached but promised it would be finalized by the end of June, likely at the upcoming EU leaders’ summit on June 27-28.

Western media are speculating on why the selection process for the new EU leadership is progressing so slowly, particularly regarding the President of the European Commission. The European People’s Party won the elections, giving its vice president, Ursula von der Leyen, a strong chance of retaining the position for another five years.

However, according to the American newspaper Politico, EU leaders have struggled to support her candidacy, despite recent assurances from Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz that they were “close to an agreement.”

The Financial Times reports no attempts to block von der Leyen’s candidacy but indicates that European leaders want more detailed plans for future actions before the next meeting on June 27.

Battles continue over the post of European Council President, which Charles Michel will vacate. According to DPA sources, von der Leyen’s party wants the term to be 2.5 years instead of 5 years. The publication believes the EPP wants to secure this position for itself.

The Party of European Socialists, the second-largest faction in the European Parliament, opposes this. Its representative, former Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa, is considered a leading contender for the role. Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is the favorite for the position of High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, currently held by Josep Borrell.

National Rally Proposes Privatization of French Public TV and Radio

The right-wing National Rally, led by Marine Le Pen, plans to privatize French public television and radio if it secures a majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections, senior party officials have revealed.

Jordan Bardella, the party president, stated on France 3 public television that the aim is to privatize state broadcasting “in order to save money.” He mentioned that this move could free up over €3bn (£2.5bn) to fund other policies, though he acknowledged that the process “wouldn’t happen in 24 hours.”

Sebastien Chénu, the party’s vice-president, expressed on France 2 that public TV and radio in France need “a bit of liberty, some oxygen,” and criticized certain national radio programs for leaning “to the left or far left.” He emphasized there should be “no taboos” about privatization.

Chénu added that while the plan is to sell off national TV and radio stations, international channels such as France 24 and Arte, along with those in overseas territories like Martinique and Guadeloupe, would be retained.

This announcement comes after President Emmanuel Macron called for snap parliamentary elections following the far-right’s significant victory over his centrists in the European elections. The outcome remains uncertain, with Le Pen’s party polling strongly.

Public broadcaster France Télévisions, which includes multiple national and regional channels, is a key player in financing films, dramas, and documentaries. Radio France, with several national and local stations, is a leader in podcasting, with France Inter being the most popular radio station in France.

Clémentine Autain of the New Popular Front urged voters to choose the left to “avoid carnage” in public broadcasting.

The debate over privatization coincides with a critical period for French state TV and radio, which has faced funding uncertainties since the abolition of the TV licence fee by Macron in 2022. Currently funded by a fraction of VAT, this temporary solution will end next year.

Public broadcasters recently went on strike following a proposal by Macron’s culture minister, Rachida Dati, to merge public media companies, which journalists’ unions criticized as a threat to media independence.

Media historian Alexis Lévrier noted that for the National Rally, privatizing public broadcasting is a strategy to silence media they view as oppositional. He suggested that if the RN gains control, they might sell it to “media bosses close to their ideas” or keep a weakened public service under their control.

No Agreement Yet on EU Top Jobs Despite ‘Consensus’

European Union leaders have not yet agreed on who will head the bloc’s major institutions following the European Parliament elections, although there seems to be some consensus on the main candidates.

Regardless of her intense lobbying and the cheerleading by allied media, Ursula von der Leyen has not yet garnered enough support to be certain of a second term as European Commission President after the EP vote of June 6-9.

Ahead of an informal summit on June 17, it had appeared EU leaders were close to agreements on the top jobs but that did not materialise.

Qatargate Unravelling? Belgium Leaves Moroccan Suspects to be Tried at Home

More than a year and a half into the Qatargate investigation, Belgian judicial authorities are reining in accusations against Moroccan suspects.

The move is seen as yet another setback in the cash-for-influence corruption scandal at the heart of European democracy.

Newspaper Le Soir said Belgium will leave it to Rabat to try its two nationals allegedly involved in the corruption and interference scandal in the European Parliament.

The paper suggested that a diplomatic rapprochement between Belgium and Morocco could be behind the decision.

Surge in Knife Attacks Perplexes Germany as Violence Escalates

Knife attacks are becoming increasingly common in Germany. Last year, over 14,000 perpetrators used knives as weapons, marking an increase of 1,490 attacks from the previous year, according to police statistics.

This translates to about three dozen knife attacks every day. Defense against such attacks is nearly impossible, warns the website of the weekly Focus.

“A knife is often more dangerous than a firearm,” says Dieter Walter, a former trainer of elite police officers in Münster. Experts are struggling to explain the sharp rise in knife crimes, despite the long-standing ease of access, effectiveness, and difficulty of defense against knife attacks. Criminologist Dirk Baier from Zurich suggests that societal “inhibitions” are diminishing, making knives an indispensable weapon for certain groups.

Criminologist Rudolf Egg describes the typical offenders as men aged 18 to 30 who are single, uneducated, and unemployed. This demographic also dominates other violent crimes. The proportion of attackers without German citizenship is notably high. In Berlin, for example, a foreigner is responsible for every second knife attack. Egg also highlights the significant role of the migration background in these crimes.

Recent incidents underline the growing concern. In Munich, police intervened just before a fight broke out between two groups of teenagers from the Balkans and the Middle East in front of a shopping center. All of the young men were found carrying various types of knives, including daggers, folding knives, switchblades, and military knives.

Propaganda videos from the Islamic State, which showed beheadings and provided instructions on using knives, have influenced Islamic radicals in Germany. These videos, available online about a decade ago, have resulted in numerous attacks across the country, including in Würzburg, Duisburg, Dresden, and Hamburg. One notable case is that of Safia S., who, at 15, attacked a police officer in Hanover in 2016 after being trained by the Islamic State from a young age. The officer, now 42, still suffers from the attack, while Safia S. has been released from her six-year prison sentence.

German security authorities consider around 200 people as potential Islamist threats, though continuous monitoring of this group is impractical. The existence of about 27,000 Muslims with “Islamist potential” in Germany further complicates the situation. “Those who self-radicalize and then carry out an attack are a nightmare for security authorities. They are essentially undetectable,” said MP Sebastian Fiedler (SPD).

Following a recent fatal attack on a police officer in Mannheim by an Islamic radical, police unions are demanding stringent legal measures, including the deportation of dangerous individuals to their countries of origin, even if these countries lack human rights protections. This proposal is controversial and sensitive in Berlin.

Meanwhile, the government coalition parties are divided on the issue. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser proposed tightening gun laws in January 2023, focusing on handguns. However, the FDP opposes this amendment, advocating instead for the strict enforcement of existing laws.

The Third Trial of Rebels Who Sought to Overthrow Scholz Begins in Germany

On Tuesday, eight individuals accused of involvement in a possible far-right conspiracy to overthrow the German government appeared in court in Munich, according to the Associated Press. This is the latest of three trials in this extensive case.

The eight Germans—six men and two women—are charged with preparing acts of high treason. They also face charges of membership in or founding a terrorist organization, with some accused of preparing serious acts of violence.

The case gained widespread attention at the end of 2022, shocking the nation. A total of 26 people are currently on trial. Prosecutors stated that the suspects, identified as “Reichsbürger” (Reich citizens), believed in conspiracy myths and were convinced that Germany is governed by a so-called “deep state.” Supporters of the Reichsbürger movement reject Germany’s modern constitution and call for the government’s overthrow.

Last month, a trial of the alleged leaders and most prominent suspects took place in Frankfurt am Main. The trial of nine individuals in Stuttgart, which began in late April, focuses on the military aspects of the conspiracy. All trials are expected to be lengthy. The Munich Regional Court has scheduled 55 court sessions until the end of January.

Israeli Military Knew Hamas Was Planning Attack — Media

By RT

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) warned in mid-September that Hamas was planning to invade the country and capture more than 200 hostages, Israel’s Kan broadcaster reported on Monday.

Three weeks before Hamas fighters attacked Israel on October 7, the IDF’s intelligence directorate compiled a report stating that the Palestinian militants were training for a large-scale invasion of the Jewish state, Kan has claimed, citing anonymous security sources. The document allegedly warned that dozens of Hamas commandos would take part in the raid, which would be aimed at bringing between 200 and 250 hostages back to Gaza.

Several thousand Hamas fighters carried out the actual October 7 assault, killing around 1,200 people and taking roughly 250 hostages back to Gaza.

According to Kan’s sources, Hamas members had been spotted practicing attacks on mock IDF outposts, rehearsing how to capture military and civilian hostages, and training how to handle the captives once they were detained in Gaza.

The document reportedly made its way to senior officials in the IDF’s Gaza Division, but was “completely ignored,” Kan stated.

Kan is not the first source to claim that Israel was forewarned about the October 7 attack. Within days of the assault, Egyptian intelligence officials said that they had repeatedly warned the Israeli government that Hamas was planning “something big” in the days leading up to October 7, but that these warnings were ignored in West Jerusalem.

Earlier in 2023, the IDF warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on at least four occasions that “Israel’s enemies” viewed the state as vulnerable to attack. However, the content of these warnings has never been made public, and Netanyahu claimed last month that they made no mention of any concrete plans by Hamas.

“Not only is there no warning in any of the documents about Hamas’s intentions to attack Israel from Gaza, but they instead give a completely opposite assessment,” the prime minister’s office said in a statement.

According to an Israeli source cited by American journalist Seymour Hersh last year, Netanyahu was so unconcerned with the possibility of an attack from Gaza that he ordered two thirds of the IDF troops normally stationed at Israel’s border with the enclave to provide security at an Orthodox Jewish festival in the West Bank — against the wishes of Gaza Division commanders.

With Israel’s war on Hamas entering its eighth month, retired general Benny Gantz resigned from Netanyahu’s war cabinet last week. Former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot left the cabinet shortly afterwards, with both men accusing Netanyahu of failing to develop a strategy for defeating Hamas and ending the war. Netanayhu dissolved the cabinet on Sunday, and is expected to discuss the conflict with a smaller group of ministers — including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer — from now on.

The US Announced the Destruction of Four Radars and a Houthi Maritime Drone in Yemen

The US military reported a new successful attack on the weapons of Iran-backed Houthi militants in areas of Yemen under their control, according to a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

According to CENTCOM, the US destroyed four radars, one maritime drone, and one Houthi unmanned aerial vehicle over the Red Sea. The report stated that no American, coalition, or commercial vessels were damaged or lost.

“These systems were determined to pose an immediate threat to US, coalition forces, and commercial vessels in the region,” the military noted.

On June 17, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against two individuals and five entities that facilitated the procurement of weapons for the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have been attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since last year.

In February, the US designated the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen as a terrorist group.

Blinken Says China’s Support for Russia’s War in Ukraine ‘Has to Stop’

China’s support for Russia’s defense industry is prolonging the Ukraine war and “has to stop,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on June 18 at a joint news conference with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. China’s support has enabled Russia to keep its defense industrial base going — “to keep the war machine going…. So that has to stop,” Blinken said. Stoltenberg, reiterating comments he made on June 17, said China “cannot continue to have normal trade relationships with countries in Europe and at the same time fuel the biggest war we have seen in Europe since World War II.” He again called for China to face “consequences” if it keeps backing Russia.

Mine Blast Kills 2 in Russia’s Bryansk Region

Two people were killed and a third was injured in a mine explosion in western Russia’s Bryansk region, regional authorities said Tuesday.

“On the territory of the Klimovsky district, local residents entered the restricted border zone, despite signs warning about the mine danger,” Byransk region Governor Alexander Bogomaz said on Telegram.

“Two residents died at the scene. One resident was injured. He has now been taken to a medical facility and is receiving the necessary help,” he said.

Bryansk shares a border with northeastern Ukraine’s Sumy and Chernihiv regions — which has become littered with landmines since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

Last week, a Russian state TV cameraman was injured in a mine explosion in the southwestern Belgorod region, local authorities reported.

Russia Supplied More Gas to Europe Than the US in May

In May, gas imports from Russia to Europe exceeded those from the US for the first time in two years, reports the Financial Times. According to the analytics company ICIS, last month, Russian pipeline gas and LNG accounted for 15 percent of total supplies to the EU, as well as the UK, Switzerland, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia.

The share of LNG from the US was 14 percent, the lowest since August 2022. The increase was mainly due to higher Russian LNG shipments, driven by the outage of a US export facility. Additionally, Russia sent more gas through Turkey ahead of planned maintenance in June.

The newspaper notes that in September 2022, the US overtook Russia in gas supplies to Europe and has maintained around a fifth of this market since 2023.

This highlights the complexity of further reducing Europe’s dependency on Russian gas, as several Eastern European countries still rely on imports from the neighboring state, the publication reports.

Putin and Kim Embrace in North Korea, Vow ‘Building of a New Multi-Polar World’

SEOUL — Shortly after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un embraced Russian President Vladimir Putin upon his arrival at Pyongyang’s airport on June 19, the two leaders shared their “pent-up inmost thoughts” and agreed to develop their nations’ relations, the North Korean state media said.

Mr Putin, who arrived in the pre-dawn hours, is on his first trip to the North Korean capital in 24 years, a visit likely to reshape decades of Russia-North Korea relations at a time when both countries face international isolation.

The countries’ partnership is an “engine for accelerating the building of a new multi-polar world” and Mr Putin’s visit demonstrates the invincibility and durability of their friendship and unity, North Korea’s state news agency KCNA said.

North Korea-Russia relations have “emerged as a strong strategic fortress for preserving international justice, peace and security”, KCNA said.

Moscow and Pyongyang have been allies since North Korea’s founding after World War II, and have drawn even closer since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 led to the West isolating Mr Putin internationally.

Russia has used its warming ties with North Korea to needle Washington, while heavily sanctioned North Korea has won political backing, and promises of economic support and trade from Moscow.

The United States and its allies say they fear Russia could provide aid for North Korea’s missile and nuclear programmes, which are banned by UN Security Council resolutions, and have accused Pyongyang of providing ballistic missiles and artillery shells that Russia has used in its war in Ukraine.

Moscow and Pyongyang have denied weapons transfers.

Scientists From China Have Created the World’s First AI Commander for Managing Troops

Researchers at the Joint Operations College of the National Defense University of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have developed the world’s first virtual AI-based troop commander, reports SCMP.

The media claim that the scientists modeled the AI commander after the behavior of real soldiers. Journalists state that the AI commander possesses all their qualities, including their shortcomings.

The virtual commander’s trials were conducted in a specialized PLA laboratory, according to the article. The developers allegedly launched a computer simulation involving military exercises in which all branches of the armed forces participated. In this simulation, the AI was given the authority of the PLA’s commander-in-chief, the media assert.

Journalists note that information about this project first appeared in the Chinese scientific journal “Common Control & Simulation.” During the analysis, experts considered the experience of creating computer games such as StarCraft, Dota 2, and King of Glory.

Scientists highlighted that, in some parameters, the developers of these games managed to surpass humans in planning and situational response on the battlefield.

In conclusion, Chinese researchers pointed out both the advantages of AI and a number of significant risks. Media representatives also noted that the virtual commander is potentially facing some issues specific to the PLA.

Macron Urges End to Unrest in New Caledonia, Calls for Dialogue

President Emmanuel Macron has appealed to residents of New Caledonia to dismantle barricades following weeks of unrest in the French Pacific territory. In a public statement on Tuesday, Macron described the ongoing situation as “unacceptable” and called for “the firm and definitive lifting of all blockades” along with a rejection of violence.

New Caledonia, administered by France since the 19th century, has seen heightened tensions, particularly from indigenous Kanaks seeking greater autonomy or independence. The unrest began in mid-May amid protests over voting reform, leading to prolonged demonstrations and clashes.

While French authorities claim control over Noumea, the capital, barricades remain in place as pro-independence demonstrators persist in street protests. Despite the disruptions, signs of normalization have emerged with the reopening of schools and the international airport in Noumea.

Macron recently announced the suspension of the controversial voting reform in response to the unrest, aligning with upcoming snap parliamentary elections in France. In a letter published locally, Macron emphasized the need for dialogue and patience, stating, “It always takes longer to build than to destroy.”

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Macron underscored that those responsible for encouraging the unrest would be held accountable.

The decision to call early parliamentary elections reflects Macron’s strategy to reconfigure France’s political landscape following challenges from far-right factions in recent European elections. As the elections approach on June 30, concerns have arisen over potential shifts in political alliances and the future direction of Macron’s centrist agenda.

Iran Moves Into Somalia

And the terrorists can thank Rep. Ilhan Omar.

After six months of Iran using its Houthi Jihadis to impose a blockade near Yemen while defying Biden to do anything about it, the Islamic global terror state is moving on to a Somali blockade.

Current reports suggest that the Houthis, an Iranian Shiite terror group, is negotiating to provide weapons to Yemen’s Al-Shabaab, a Sunni Jihadist group allied with Al Qaeda, to expand Iran’s control over shipping. While Al-Shabaab has operated using the conventional Al Qaeda playbook of rifles and IEDs, the Houthis (pictured above) can offer upgraded drones and missile technology.

And best of all the Houthis can claim that the weapons were battle tested on the US Navy.

When the Houthis began their naval blockade, the Biden administration had the opportunity to shut it down. Instead, a US Navy carrier group has been tied up for months with no results. The AP headlined its recent coverage as “US Navy faces its most intense combat since World War II against Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels”. But as Front Page Magazine already reported, the only reason the war keeps dragging on is that Biden has restricted the US Navy to responding to incoming attacks and only the occasional light bombing raids against the sources of the attacks.

The Houthis, whose motto, like that of their Iranian backers, includes, “Death to America”, have been able to claim that they held off the world’s greatest military for half a year, while imposing control over regional shipping and international trade. And now Iran is moving into Somalia.

Russian Warships Leave Havana’s Port After a 5-Day Visit to Cuba

A fleet of Russian warships, including a nuclear-powered submarine, left Havana’s port on Monday after a five-day visit to Cuba following planned military drills in the Atlantic Ocean. The exercise has been seen by some as a show of strength by Moscow against the backdrop of tensions as U.S. and other Western nations support Kyiv, Associated Pressreported.

The submarine, a frigate, an oil tanker and a rescue tug slowly departed from the port on Monday morning.

It’s unclear what the fleet’s next destination is or where it will dock next in the Caribbean, although U.S. officials said days ago that the vessels could possibly also stop in Venezuela.

Officials with the Biden administration said last week that they were monitoring the vessels and confirmed that they did not pose a threat to the region or indicate a transfer of missiles. Still, the United States docked a submarine, the USS Helena, at its Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.

The American naval base, located in the southeastern part of the island about 1,000 kilometers (625 miles) from the capital of Havana, is considered by the Cuban government to be illegally occupied territory.

Biden Gave ‘Open Invite’ to 1.4M Illegals From 177 Countries to Flood America’s Border, Expert Warns

A leading immigration expert has warned that Democrat President Joe Biden provided an “open invite” to foreign nationals from around the world to illegally flood America’s Southern Border.

According to the Mexican government’s National Institute of Migration, nearly 1.4 million illegal aliens from a staggering 177 countries traveled through Mexico to the United States from January to May this year alone.

Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, asserts that surges of illegal border crossings “over brief periods of time” have happened in the past.

However, immigration expert Krikorian warns that this “huge variety” of countries is unprecedented.

Breaking: Trump Campaign Blasts Biden Amnesty Plan for Illegal Immigrant Spouses: ‘Another Invitation for Illegal Immigration’

The Trump Campaign responded to Joe Biden’s “mass amnesty plan” on Tuesday, with a statement saying that the incumbent president has just created “another invitation for illegal immigration.” It comes in response to the Biden admin moving to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants married to US citizens.

In a press statement, Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote, “This week, we learned an illegal alien from El Salvador who Crooked Joe Biden allowed into our country murdered a mother of five while she was on a run in Maryland, and we learned an illegal alien from Ecuador tied up and raped a 13-year-old girl at knifepoint in broad daylight.”

Brooklyn Community Meeting Devolves Into Screaming Match Over Migrant Shelters: ‘It’s Unsafe’

A community meeting in Brooklyn devolved into a screaming match Monday evening when concerned residents of the family-friendly Clinton Hill neighborhood clashed with a local councilmember over a massive shelter that houses more than 3,000 adult migrants, video shows.

The confrontation began when councilmember Crystal Hudson, who represents New York City’s District 35, referenced an alleged stabbing that occurred near the migrant shelter at 47 Hall Street.

“There was an incident earlier today — it’s not the first incident, I hope it will be the last — there was a stabbing that was at the park,” Hudson said during the Monday meeting at the Boys and Girls Navy Yard Clubhouse, video footage showed.

Dissatisfaction Grows Among Ukrainian Refugees in Czech Republic Regarding Job Opportunities

Recent research conducted by Charles University’s Faculty of Science, in collaboration with the association Slovo 21 and funded by the UN Refugee Agency and the Ministry of the Interior, reveals increasing dissatisfaction among Ukrainian refugees regarding employment opportunities in the Czech Republic.

According to the survey, a significant portion of refugees find it easier to secure informal employment without a contract than to work legally. Over a quarter of respondents consider informal work essential for their livelihood. Moreover, there is a growing sentiment of discontent among refugees with their current job prospects.

The study, which spanned from summer to autumn 2022 and from last autumn to this spring, garnered responses from 1387 individuals, predominantly women. Most respondents reside in rented accommodations, including hostels, hotels, guesthouses, or municipal flats, with a notable concentration in Prague.

Josef Novotný from Charles University’s Faculty of Science noted that while there has been an increase in refugee employment, it often leans towards informal arrangements, which poses challenges for the Czech state. The proportion of refugees in suitable employment has not seen significant improvement since 2022.

The research highlights dissatisfaction among refugees regarding workplace inequality, salaries, working conditions, and hours. Approximately 5% of respondents reported working regularly without a contract, while a fifth acknowledged having experience with informal work, mostly under a valid contract. Nearly half of the refugees surveyed believe that Ukrainians find it easier to secure informal work compared to legal employment in the Czech Republic.

Financial and housing situations have deteriorated significantly for 35% of respondents following stricter welfare provisions implemented last year. This impact was more pronounced among those working informally or without contracts, as well as newcomers lacking established networks in the Czech Republic.

Interestingly, the research did not indicate a strong desire among refugees to prolong their stay in the Czech Republic due to increased satisfaction or longer-term plans. Instead, ties to their homeland and current support networks heavily influence their decisions. Those who maintain frequent ties with Ukraine are more inclined to consider returning.

The study also noted shifting intentions regarding return plans among refugees, with a quarter of those initially planning to return in 2022 changing their minds the following year. Conversely, more than a quarter of those previously not considering return began contemplating it.

Overall, the findings underscore the complex challenges faced by Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic, particularly concerning employment, financial stability, and future aspirations.

Ecuadorian Man Arrested Over Violent Rape of Queens Minor Was Ordered to Leave US by Judge in 2022: Report

An illegal immigrant from Ecuador that was arrested in connection to the rape of a 13-year-old girl in a Queens park in New York City was ordered to leave the US in 2022 by an immigration judge.

Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, 25, was ordered to leave the country by an immigration judge on Feb. 2, 2022, per Department of Homeland Security sources who spoke to the New York Post. Inga-Landi, the suspect set to be charged with the rape of a 13-year-old girl at Kissena Park.

He crossed the border in June 2021 with his son in Eagle Pass, Texas. He was arrested, processed, and then released, the sources told the outlet.

Inga-Landi and his family were deemed “inadmissible” after coming into the country by border agents as they did not have documentation to be in the US. However, they were released into the interior with a court date to appear before an immigration judge. A source told the Post, “People are getting released with NTAs because Border Patrol cannot hold detainees longer than 72 hours.”

Finland Plans to Reject All Asylum Seekers That Cross Russian Border

The Finnish Government aims to pass a law to turn back all refugees who cross into the country from Russia.

First fielded in May, the new rules would enable Finland’s border guards to prevent migrants arriving over the 1,340km border from claiming asylum.

Authorities have admitted the law would likely be in breach of its human rights commitments, though have insisted that it is a temporary measure aimed at ensuring its national security.

They added that the law could come into force soon, with it requiring only a few more amendments before being ready for a parliament vote.

ICE Non-Detained Docket is Now Over 7 Million

The “non-detained docket” is part of the Biden administration’s “alternatives to detention” program that is supposed to track migrants caught at the border and released. The illegal aliens in ICE’s non-detained docket are supposedly supplied with case management support to keep track of them. But the docket has swelled to 7.4 million under Biden and with only 6,000 deportation officers now responsible for 7,000 illegal aliens each, making sure the illegals make their court dates or stay out of trouble is impossible.

Immigration Eclipses Climate Change as Priority for Canadian Voters

Immigration is top of mind for Canadian voters, eclipsing even climate change as one of the most pressing issues at the polls.

This is according to a national survey by Abacus Data, which conducted a poll in early June following the Bank of Canada’s interest rate cut, asking Canadians to rank their top social and economic issues.

According to the poll, immigration overtook climate change as the fifth top issue sometime in April, with 26% of Canadians polled ranked immigration as a key priority.

The top issue remains the rising cost of living with 73% of Canadians ranking it as their highest priority, followed by housing affordability at 47%, healthcare at 44% and the economy generally at 34%.

Maryland Sheriff: Biden’s Open Border ‘Allowed’ Illegal Alien to Murder Mom-of-5 Rachel Morin

Democrat President Joe Biden’s open border policies “allowed” an illegal alien to enter the country and brutally murder a mother-of-five, a Maryland sheriff has warned.

On Friday, 23-year-old Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez from El Salvador was arrested Friday and charged with the rape and murder of 37-year-old Rachel Morin, who was killed while on a hiking trail last year.

Seattle Police Aim to Fix Staffing Crisis by Hiring ‘Dreamers’ as Biden Gives Mass Amnesty, Work Permits

The city of Seattle is hoping to solve its police staffing crisis by filling empty positions with illegal immigrants who arrived in the US as minors with their illegal immigrant parents. The department has lost over 725 officers during the last five years, leaving the Emerald City with approximately 900 trained officers, the city’s lowest staffing level since the 1990s.

The Seattle Police Department announced on its LinkedIn page last week that it “is now accepting applications from DACA recipients.” Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a program begun under the Obama administration that allows recipients who entered the US illegally as minors to defer action on deportation and gain work authorization. DACA recipients must have come to the US before their 16th birthday.

Ukrainians in Germany May Lose Civil Benefits

Since June 2022, Ukrainians fleeing the war have been receiving Bürgergeld in Germany. Currently, there are about 1.25 million Ukrainians in the country. Refugees from other countries can only receive 460 euros as a refugee benefit. Bundestag member Bijan Djir-Sarai, the general secretary of the liberal FDP party, which is part of the ruling coalition, expressed support for ending Bürgergeld for Ukrainians in an interview with BILD.

Starting from January 1, the civil benefit (Bürgergeld) for an unemployed individual in Germany is 563 euros per month. Many in Germany are dissatisfied with this, as it is often more advantageous to receive the tax-free benefit and work in the shadow economy than to have a regular job and pay taxes.

“Newly arriving refugees from the war in Ukraine should in the future receive benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, not Bürgergeld,” Djir-Sarai said. “We have a labor shortage everywhere, for example, in the catering, construction, and care sectors. We should no longer use taxpayers’ money to finance unemployment, but instead, provide people with jobs.”

Previously, Michael Stübgen, the Interior Minister of the federal state of Brandenburg and a member of the conservative CDU party, called for the same. He described Bürgergeld for Ukrainians as a “fundamental mistake” and a “brake on employment.” His colleague from Bavaria, Joachim Herrmann, agreed, stating in BILD that Ukrainians are currently being given “completely wrong incentives.”

Video Shows ‘Neighborhood People’ Take Down Illegal Immigrant Accused of Raping 13-Year-Old at Knifepoint

A group of New Yorkers who recognized the suspect in a horrific rape of a 13-year-old took him down and held him until police arrived around 1 a.m. Tuesday, cellphone video shows.

Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, a 25-year-old from Ecuador, entered the country illegally in 2021 near Eagle Pass, Texas, police said.

He racked up an arrest in Texas and a handful of infractions in New York City before police say he cornered a pair of 13-year-olds in a Queens park, forced them into the woods at knifepoint, tied their wrists together with shoelaces and raped one of them. He allegedly stole their phones and told them to stay put for 20 minutes as he fled.

With help from the victims, police put out a sketch of the suspect. Then a local resident spotted him on surveillance video, which police also released.

A group of men at a deli in nearby Corona recognized him and pounced. Then they held him until police arrived, according to authorities.

Big Tech Coalition Partners With WEF, Pushes “Global Digital Safety” Standards

Big Tech coalition Digital Trust & Safety Partnership (DTSP), the UK’s regulator OFCOM, and the World Economic Forum (WEF) have come together to produce a report.

The three entities, each in their own way, are known for advocating for or carrying out speech restrictions and policies that can result in undermining privacy and security.

DTSP says it is there to “address harmful content” and makes sure online age verification (“age assurance”) is enforced, while OFCOM states its mission to be establishing “online safety.”

Now they have co-authored a WEF (WEF Global Coalition for Digital Safety) report — a white paper — that puts forward the idea of closer cooperation with law enforcement in order to more effectively “measure” what they consider to be online digital safety and reduce what they identify to be risks.

Thailand on the Verge of Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage

Thailand is set to become the first Southeast Asian nation to legalize same-sex marriage, marking a historic step towards marriage equality in the region. On Tuesday, Thai lawmakers convened to vote on the legislation, with the senate upper house expected to pass it. Once approved, the bill will be sent to King Maha Vajiralongkorn for royal assent, and it will come into force 120 days after its publication in the Royal Gazette.

If enacted, Thailand will join Taiwan and Nepal as the only Asian countries recognizing same-sex marriages. Activists hope that the first weddings will be celebrated by October.

“Today is the day that Thai people will smile. It is a victory for the people,” declared Tunyawaj Kamolwongwat, a member of the progressive Move Forward Party and a prominent advocate for equal marriage in parliament. “Today it finally is happening in Thailand.” Tunyawaj celebrated with fellow MPs and aides, proudly displaying a rainbow banner.

The senate session began at 9:30 am (0230 GMT), with a final vote anticipated in the afternoon. The new legislation replaces gender-specific terms like “men”, “women”, “husbands”, and “wives” with gender-neutral language and extends the same rights to same-sex couples as heterosexual ones, including adoption and inheritance.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ community and the bill, plans to host activists and supporters for celebrations at his official residence following the vote. Additionally, activists will hold a rally featuring a drag show in central Bangkok, where shopping malls have been displaying the rainbow flag since the start of Pride Month in June.

Thailand has a reputation for LGBTQ tolerance, with opinion polls showing strong public support for equal marriage. Globally, more than 30 countries have legalized same-sex marriage since the Netherlands first did so in 2001. In Asia, only Taiwan and Nepal have followed suit, though India came close in October before its Supreme Court referred the decision back to parliament.

“I am so happy to see how far we have come,” said Chotika Hlengpeng, a participant in Bangkok’s Pride march earlier this month.

Tuesday’s vote is the result of years of persistent campaigning and previous unsuccessful attempts to pass equal marriage laws. Despite popular support, traditional and conservative values still hold sway in Buddhist-majority Thailand. While LGBTQ individuals are highly visible, they continue to face discrimination and barriers in daily life.

Some activists have criticized the new laws for not addressing the needs of transgender and non-binary individuals, who will still be unable to change their gender on official documents. Nonetheless, the pending legalization of same-sex marriage represents a significant victory for the LGBTQ community and a milestone for human rights in Thailand.

World Economic Forum Pushes for AI Use and Collaboration in Fighting “Misinformation”

The dual approach of talking up the benefits of AI when it comes to using this still very much emerging tech to combat “disinformation,” while warning against the perils of AI in creating that same “disinformation” — continues.

The point at which these two approaches converge is censorship — “both disinformation warriors” who want to use AI in their fight, and AI doomsayers who claim deepfakes will destroy democracies, work towards “monitoring,” “labeling,” and ultimately, controlling content.

And sometimes they’re the same informal but powerful groups, or government agencies and legacy media.
