European Stocks Decline Amid French Political Unrest

European stocks dropped on Friday as French stocks and bonds were hit by political turmoil, and investors considered the U.S. interest rate outlook after mixed signals throughout the week, as reported by Reuters.

At 0934 GMT, the STOXX 600 was down 0.6%, while France’s CAC 40 fell 1.6% to its lowest since February. President Emmanuel Macron’s weakening power, due to a united left-wing opposition, has raised concerns about a potential far-right victory led by Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National (RN).

France’s finance minister warned of a possible financial crisis if the far right wins a snap election. The risk premium on French government bonds surged to its highest since 2017, with the spread between French and German 10-year bond yields at 79.1 basis points.

Amelie Derambure of Amundi in Paris noted that markets are factoring in the risks of an RN government, but added that the situation is different from 2017 as RN is not discussing exiting the EU.

The euro fell 0.6% to $1.067175, its lowest in over six weeks, due to the risk premium following European elections where far-right parties gained ground.

Global stocks were down 0.2%, and the U.S. dollar index rose 0.4%. The U.S. Federal Reserve delayed expected rate cuts, but cooler-than-expected inflation data boosted investor confidence. Weekly jobless claims in the U.S. reached a 10-month high.

The yen fell after the Bank of Japan signaled future bond purchase reductions, causing the dollar to rise 0.8% against the yen. U.S. Treasury yields and Eurozone government bond yields also declined. Oil prices eased, but crude benchmarks were set for their best week in over two months. Gold rose 0.7% to $2,320.18.

“No Place in the Public Discourse”: The Connecticut Bar Association Warns Lawyers Critical of Trump Prosecutions

Authored by Jonathan Turley via jonathanturley.org

This week, I have received emails from Connecticut bar members over a message posted by President Maggie Castinado, President-Elect James T. (Tim) Shearin, and Vice President Emily A. Gianquinto warning them about criticizing the prosecutions of former President Donald Trump. The message from the bar leadership is chilling for those lawyers who view cases like the one in Manhattan as a raw political prosecution. While the letter does not outright state that such criticism will be considered unethical conduct, it states that the criticism has “no place in the public discourse” and calls on members to speak publicly in support of the integrity of these legal proceedings.

1 Teen Shot, 2 Teens Arrested, Others Twerk on Cop Car After Long Island ‘Senior Skip Day’ Turns to Chaos

An annual “senior skip day” event resulted in one teen being shot as an unruly crowd of high schoolers took over Long Beach in Long Island, New York. The group of teens caused mass chaos on Thursday, with some twerking on a police vehicle and others getting into physical altercations.

Police said the mayhem sprung out around 6 pm local time after a swarm of more than 2,000 high schoolers cut class and went to the beach. Authorities reported that one teen was shot at the train station. Two teen suspects were arrested and taken into custody. The victim and suspects were not immediately identified and a gun was recovered from the scene, per the New York Post.

The victim’s condition was not known on Friday evening.

Other weapons were later discovered in the chaos, including a knife, police said.

Local police were forced to call in Nassau County police for backup as the crowd continued to grow chaotic.

Chicago Man Charged With Shooting Ice Cream Vendor, Leading to South Side SWAT Standoff, Police Say

CHICAGO (WLS) — A man has been charged Saturday with shooting an ice cream vendor Wednesday on the South Side, leading to a SWAT standoff in the East Side neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Chicago man Paul Redd, 29, is facing charges of aggravated battery and assault with discharging a firearm at a 67-year-old man, Chicago police said.

Chicago police said just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 67-year-old food vendor was approached by two people in the 10700-block of South Ewing, who pulled out guns and opened fire.

Two female victims were also at the scene of the shooting, but they were not injured, police said.

One witness described hearing an argument over the price of a dollar ice cream the vendor was selling outside of a grocery store before he heard gunfire.

“It’s unbelievable. A life for a dollar?” witness Dave Johnson said. “A shot for a dollar? No, that’s crazy. I heard two guys arguing real loud. I mean, I could hear them a block away. Then, all of a sudden, I heard, ‘pow!’ I went to the corner of my deck. I looked down the street here, and I seen a guy laying on the grass. He was shot in the leg.”

The man who was shot, investigators say, was a 67-year-old food vendor, who left on the ground injured while two suspects tried to run away, but they didn’t get far. Chicago police and SWAT officers swarmed 108th and Ewing.

“Evidently, he didn’t pay the dollar or it was too much for him to pay,” Johnson said.

The ice cream vendor was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition while both suspects ran into a nearby home, police said, leading to an hours-long a barricade situation and standoff before they were taken into custody.

CNN Sticking Networks With List of Tedious Requirements to Air 2024 Presidential Debate

CNN is forcing other television networks and outlets to agree to a list of tedious requirements in exchange for the ability to air the first 2024 presidential debate, sources told The Los Angeles Times.

Despite becoming the first TV network in history to secure the exclusive rights to air a general election debate, CNN is opting to allow other networks the ability to simulcast the June 27 face-off between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

The network, however, has cobbled together a rather finicky list of conditions for what rival networks and other outlets like Fox News and MSNBC are allowed to do in exchange for the rights to the debate feed, sources told the paper.

Donald Trump on Aliens: Pilots Tell Me They Have Seen the Inexplicable

Former President Donald Trump said he has had pilots — who are not “conspiratorial” or “crazy” — tell him they have seen the inexplicable, making the remark during a Q&A about aliens during an appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast.

“I want to talk to you about aliens. So UFOs, UAPs, the disclosure we’ve seen in Congress recently — it’s confusing and upsetting a lot of Americans because something’s going on. There’s something happening. There are unidentified aerial phenomena in the sky. We don’t know what they are. Do you?” Paul asked Trump, who carefully answered the question.

Hillary Clinton Makes Move to Unseat Democrat Congressman Jamaal Bowman

Hillary Clinton is making a push to unseat Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), a member of the far-left “Squad” and one of the most vocal progressives in Congress.

The move comes as the Democratic Party’s Israel-Hamas civil war escalates.

In a shock endorsement, Clinton aligned herself with Bowman’s primary challenger Westchester County Executive George Latimer, calling him a “principled” Democrat.

The endorsement could seal Bowman’s fate, however.

Polls are already showing Bowman behind among Democrat primary voters.

Judge Rules Against Michigan’s Absentee Ballot Signature Presumption Rule

Authored by Austin Alonzo via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours)

A Michigan court ruled against the state’s top election officials’ recommendations for assessing the validity of absentee ballots in what Republicans are calling a victory for election integrity.

On June 12, Judge Christopher Yates ruled that Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Director of Elections Jonathan Brater didn’t follow the state’s election laws when they issued rules presuming signatures attached to absentee ballot applications and submissions were valid.

The order granted partial declaratory relief to the Republican National Committee, the Michigan Republican Party, the National Republican Congressional Committee, and others involved in the case

Judge Yates, a Michigan appellate judge also serving in the limited-jurisdiction Court of Claims, wrote in his opinion that the initial presumption of validity in signature verification of absentee ballot applications and envelopes mandated by a December 2023 guidance manual is “incompatible with the Constitution and laws of the State of Michigan.”

Public School Enrollment Declining in America’s Most Populous Cities: Report

Public school enrollment is declining in America’s most populous cities, but despite the dip in attendance, school spending has increased in many urban districts, according to a report. Experts warn the disparity will have major implications for education policy.

Between 2013 and 2022, nationwide enrollment decreased by 2% from 49.9 million to 48.8 million, falling to some of the lowest points in decades, according to a report the Manhattan Institute published Thursday. Senior fellow Daniel DiSalvo and economic policy analyst Reade Ben found that even though enrollment numbers have declined, school districts have yet to adjust their staffing and budgeting to the reality of fewer students.

RFK Jr. Says US Should ‘Vastly Scale Back’ Its Military Budget

Authored by Jeff Louderback via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours)

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an outspoken critic of U.S. involvement in “forever wars,” reiterated his view that the nation should scale back its military presence abroad and shift its focus to domestic programs, during an address at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum on June 12.

Mr. Kennedy did not mention the Russia—Ukraine or the Israel—Hamas war, but he said that the United States should “vastly scale back the military budget” and proposed a 50 percent reduction in military spending if he is elected president.

This would lead to a “stronger, smarter, better targeted national defense,” he said, and would benefit the U.S. economy by reallocating that money to reducing the $34 trillion national debt and addressing domestic issues such as education, small-business development, and infrastructure.

Supreme Court Signals Interest in Hearing a Major Climate Change Case That Could be a ‘Nightmare’ for Liberals

The Supreme Court seemed to signal interest this week in taking up a challenge launched by Hawaii against big oil companies to hold them liable for climate change, and some Democrats are suggesting the high court is “captured” for the fossil fuel industry.

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Justice Department to weigh in on a petition to hear a lawsuit brought by the City of Honolulu against major fuel companies including Sunoco, Exxon and Chevron, claiming the companies’ products cause greenhouse gas emissions and global warming without warning consumers about the risks.

The city employed a series of state laws like public nuisance and trespass measures and said the companies should pay billions to the state to abate the effects of climate change like weather events, sea level rise, heat waves, flooding and global warming generally.

Vandal Scrawls ‘Palestine’ on Wall of NYC’s Park Avenue Synagogue

An anti-Israel vandal targeted yet another Jewish landmark in New York City, this time etching “Palestine” onto one of Manhattan’s largest synagogues.

“Palestine” was scrawled under the biblical verse “How great are your tents O Jacob, your dwelling places O Israel,” photos show.

The vandal did not cross out the word Israel, but wrote Palestine in green marker beneath it.

Czechia: Housing Crisis Deepens in Prague: Buying an Apartment Now Requires 15.4 Annual Salaries

Housing availability in Prague has deteriorated further in the first quarter of this year. Acquiring a new 70-square-meter apartment in the capital now demands 15.4 annual salaries, a significant increase from last year’s third quarter, which required six fewer monthly salaries.

This decline in housing affordability, both for ownership and rental properties, was highlighted by the affordable housing index from residential developer Central Group, presented at a press conference in Prague on June 12.

The analysis reveals that apartment prices in the Czech Republic have been rising at a much faster rate than wages for several years. Since early 2015, apartment prices have surged by nearly 150%, while wages have only increased by 62%. Following Prague, Bratislava and Munich are also facing housing affordability issues, needing 14.3 and 11.6 annual salaries respectively to purchase an apartment.

Central Group’s data indicates that the current average gross monthly salary in Prague is 57,817 crowns, and the price of an average new apartment is 10,685,072 crowns. This index uses data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs’ Information System on Average Earnings and a joint analysis by Central Group, Trigema, and Skanska.

According to the Czech Statistical Office, the average nominal salary in the first quarter was 43,941 crowns, suggesting even more annual salaries would be required to buy a new apartment. Central Group reports the current price of a new apartment is 152,644 crowns per square meter, and 123,683 crowns per square meter for older apartments.

Prague also ranks as the least affordable city in the region for rental housing. In 2021, 43% of an average salary was needed for rent in an average-sized apartment, but now it requires 51%.

A new government program, introduced by the Ministry of Regional Development, aims to improve rental housing availability. This initiative plans to build rental apartments with below-market rents through advantageous loans in collaboration with municipalities, the state, and private investors. Initially, the state will allocate 4.5 billion crowns, with the National Development Bank adding 3.5 billion crowns next year.

Dusan Kunovský, chairman of Central Group, considers the program a positive step but notes that the financial capabilities of public budgets are limited and cannot resolve the housing crisis alone. He emphasizes the necessity of involving private sector investments, stating that “it will be necessary to spend hundreds of billions of crowns,” and that public construction must create at least 25,000 new public rental apartments annually to significantly impact housing availability in the Czech Republic.

Donald Trump Jr: ‘Hungary is Europe’s Last Hope’

Businessman Donald Trump Jr., the son of former U.S. President Donald Trump, spoke about the U.S. elections, domestic politics and world politics in a lecture at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium in Budapest on Thursday.

During the panel discussion “The World as seen through the eyes of Donald Trump Jr.,” organized by Mathias Corvinus College (MCC), Donald Trump Jr. spoke about the obstacles to conservative forces in the current political climate.

“Common sense is anything but common these days in government, in education, in the world at large, and in every institution we interact with every day,” he said, adding that American conservative circles look to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as a great leader who puts Hungary first. Trump Jr. stated that he feels that conservative interests are being properly promoted throughout Hungary.

Germany Reports Record Cocaine Seizure in Country’s History

German investigators conducted raids in seven federal states, seizing a record amount of cocaine worth several billion euros, writes Bild.

The Customs Investigation Office in Stuttgart and the Düsseldorf Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday that this is the “largest cocaine seizure” in Germany. The exact quantity has not been officially disclosed, but the publication reports that it amounts to 35 tons of the drug.

Seven individuals were detained during raids in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Hesse, and Lower Saxony.

The operations took place in cities including Bonn, Cologne, Leverkusen, the Rhein-Sieg district, and Wachtberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as Munich, Hamburg, and Frankfurt am Main. Additional details of the investigation will be announced no earlier than next week.

Just a few days ago, investigators reported the seizure of about half a ton of cocaine in Hesse, with several suspects detained. It is not yet clear if the two anti-narcotics operations are connected.

A large quantity of drugs was also discovered in the port of Hamburg last year.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Stands by Israel at G7

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stood by Israel Saturday when pressed why the G7 hasn’t condemned the Jewish state over civilian deaths caused by its attacks on Hamas terrorists in Gaza.

“I think we need to remember who started all this, and it wasn’t Israel, but someone who killed civilians, women and children,” the Italian leader said on the last day of the G7 summit held in southern Italy, referring to Hamas’ horrific Oct. 7 attack on Israel that left 1,200 people dead and sparked the bloody war.

Meloni called for all parties to work towards peace but accused Israel of falling into a “trap” in its counter-responses to Oct. 7.

Italian Premier Meloni Describes Putin’s Cease-Fire Offer for Ukraine as ‘Propaganda’

BORGO EGNAZIA, Italy (AP) — Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni on Saturday dismissed a cease-fire offer for Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin as “propaganda,” as she wrapped up a Group of Seven summit that saw a deal reached for a $50 billion loan to Ukraine.

The loan will be provided by the U.S., U.K., Canada and possibly Japan, Meloni said. The frozen Russian assets to be used as collateral are mainly in Europe, “so Europe is already contributing by identifying the guarantee mechanism,” she added.

The loan agreement was reached at the opening Thursday of the two-day annual meeting of leaders from the G7 countries of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States in southern Italy’s Puglia region.

Asked about Putin’s cease-fire proposal, Meloni said it “seems to me more like a propaganda move than a real one.”

They recorded a maximum of 23.4 nanometres (nm) of movement — admittedly considerably less than an actual earthquake — during the 7 July concert, with particular impact coming as the 73,000 fans danced to Ready For It? and Cruel Summer.

‘Still Fighting’ Sunak Goes Into Damage Control Mode as Farage Overtakes ‘Conservatives’ in UK Election Polls

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak went into full damage control mode on Friday as Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party overtook the Conservatives in the general election polls for the first time.

Attempting to downplay the historical significance of the populist Reform party of Nigel Farage overtaking his Conservatives, Prime Minister Sunak said that “the only poll that matters is the one on July 4th”.

Speaking from the G7 meeting in Italy on Friday afternoon, Sunak said per The Telegraph: “I think we’re only halfway through this campaign and the Conservative Party and me are going to fight for every single vote until the last day.”

Stoltenberg Hopes for Active French Role in NATO After Elections

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has urged France to “maintain the strength” of the Alliance amid the early parliamentary elections in the country, the results of which could bring right-wing forces to power. Stoltenberg made these remarks in a comment to Politico.

The Secretary General emphasized that he does not seek to participate in the internal political discussion in France, where the election campaign is ongoing.

“What I can say is that I firmly believe it is in the interest of France and all Alliance members to maintain the strength of NATO because we live in a more dangerous world,” he stressed.

In the early elections in France, scheduled for June 30 (first round) and July 7 (second round), the far-right National Rally party is predicted to win. Its de facto leader, Marine Le Pen, has previously promised to withdraw France from NATO’s integrated command structure.

Although France’s foreign policy is primarily determined by the president, a likely right-wing government would have control over the budget and could derail Emmanuel Macron’s initiatives, particularly military aid to Ukraine.

Top Study Confirms UN’s ‘Climate Crisis’ Claims Are a Hoax

A top study has confirmed that fearmongering claims made by the United Nations (UN) to support the “climate crisis” narrative are a hoax, directly contradicted by data.

Despite claims from the UN and other unelected globalists, the study has found that alleged “climate disasters” are not increasing.

In fact, eminent Italian researchers Gianluca Alimonti and Luigi Mariani found that the environment has been significantly improving in recent years, with climate-related events decreasing.

Two-Day Peace Summit Begins in Switzerland

Chairwoman of the Swiss Federal Council, Viola Amherd, will open the two-day Global Peace Summit on Saturday, June 15, dedicated to discussing Ukraine’s “peace formula.”

The Global Peace Summit will take place from June 15-16 at the Bürgenstock resort in central Switzerland. According to the Swiss government, the goal of the summit is to “initiate a peace process, create an atmosphere of trust, and outline ideas for the next steps towards such a process.”

The peace conference will be attended by 100 delegations, including 57 heads of state and government from around the world. Russia was not invited to the summit and has repeatedly rejected it. All attendees will be given the opportunity to express their vision for a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.

The summit program includes plenary sessions and discussions on three points of the “peace formula” — nuclear safety, food security, and the humanitarian dimension.

“The summit also offers an opportunity to discuss for the first time at the highest level how and when Russia can be included in this process. For the Swiss Federal Council, the development of a long-term solution ultimately requires the participation of both sides,” the Swiss government announced.

On the eve of the summit, Switzerland corrected problematic provisions in the final document of the meeting, which could have had undesirable consequences for Ukraine — the text of the resolution was changed in recent days.

UK: Healthcare Officials Told Not to Resuscitate Elderly COVID Patients, Whistleblower Testifies

Healthcare officials were told not to resuscitate elderly Covid patients during the pandemic, according to a shocking whistleblower testimony.

Paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) were told not to “try too hard” to resuscitate over 70 years old.

However, the whistleblower says health officials were planning to lower the age to 50 in order to meet the “demand.”

The order appears to have been an effort to boost the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 during the pandemic.

At the time, health officials and corporate media outlets promoted reports of alleged mass deaths from the virus, claiming that hospitals were “overwhelmed.”

However, these claims were never supported with real evidence and hospital workers have since claimed that they were no busier than normal.

During the ongoing Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry, several whistleblowers have testified that Covid death figures were faked.

Some have even testified that hospitals were killing patients and listing their deaths as being caused by Covid in order to boost the numbers.

Wealthy Britons May Leave UK Over Labour’s Tax Proposals on Trusts

Private banks and advisers to Britain’s super-rich warn that some clients may leave the UK if Labour wins next month’s general election and enacts plans to abolish tax protections on offshore wealth intended for future generations.

Labour, led by Keir Starmer and currently ahead in the polls, aims to target Britain’s wealthiest to fund public spending on schools, welfare, energy reform, and the National Health Service, according to their recently published manifesto.

Approximately 70,000 UK residents who currently pay little or no tax on overseas income are already facing increased bills due to the Conservative government’s decision in March to phase out “non-dom” status. Labour’s April proposals suggest a faster abolition of relief on foreign-earned income and an expansion of inheritance tax to include foreign assets held in trusts.

Critics argue that these changes could harm Britain’s economy by making it less attractive to the world’s wealthy, potentially reducing overall tax revenues. The Labour Party did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Economists predict that tax levels will likely reach an all-time high regardless of the election outcome, despite both main parties’ promises not to increase major tax rates. Labour has committed to narrowing the gap between UK tax owed and tax collected, which widened by £5 billion to £36 billion in the 2021/22 tax year.

Catherine de Maid, partner at law firm Burges Salmon, mentioned that the inheritance duty proposal was a “deal breaker” for at least three of her largest clients. She said, “Inheritance tax in the UK is high at 40%, and [clients] are not willing to pay this rate of tax on assets which were often acquired or earned many years before they had any connection with the UK. They would prefer to leave altogether.”

Countries like Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Dubai, and Singapore are becoming popular among wealthy UK families seeking lower taxes, noted Nigel Green, CEO of wealth adviser DeVere Group.

Law firms and advisers believe Labour might not allow “grandfathering” of existing trust schemes, potentially prompting international entrepreneurs and financiers in Britain to spend less time in the country. Mark Routen, Head of Tax at Hoxton Capital Management, explained that many wealthy individuals were considering reducing their UK tax residency, as “under the statutory residence test in the UK, it could just mean a modest reduction in the number of days they can stay here depending on what basis they are considered resident.”

Uncertainty over potential tax changes is leading some to reduce their exposure to the UK, according to Alexandra Hewazy of Barclays Private Bank.

Charging capital gains tax at the same rate as income tax could raise £12 billion a year, while VAT on financial services could raise around £9 billion, according to Richard Murphy, a political economist and professor at Sheffield University. He stated, “Can this sector and those who earn most in it afford to pay more tax? Yes, more so than absolutely anybody else in society.”

James Whittaker, head of UK wealth management at DB UK Bank, noted that most ultra-high-net-worth individuals are waiting for detailed legislation before making significant decisions.

Some wealthy Britons support Labour’s proposed reforms. Rebecca Gowland of Patriotic Millionaires UK emphasized that while some might consider leaving, “the vast majority of millionaires will not be going anywhere.”

Europol Dismantles Balkan Drug Cartel: 8 Tonnes of Cocaine Seized and 40 Arrests

A four-year international police operation, led by Spain’s Guardia Civil and coordinated by Europol, has resulted in the arrest of 40 individuals and the seizure of eight tonnes of cocaine. The investigation targeted a Balkan cartel trafficking large quantities of drugs from South America to Europe via West Africa and the Canary Islands.

The criminal network utilized logistical hubs in West Africa and the Canary Islands to smuggle cocaine from Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador into EU countries. Once in Europe, the drugs were distributed using handling centers in Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Italy, and Spain. According to Europol, the cartel’s leaders operated from temporary bases in Turkey and Dubai, managing their operations remotely.

“From there, they operated the control and command centres of the criminal network,” the EU law enforcement agency said. “Investigations into this network identified a significant threat — criminal actors’ ability to collaborate closely and deploy criminal associates on a long-term basis on locations to facilitate their large-scale drug trafficking operations.”

The success of the operation was attributed to the cooperation between nine national forces: Brazil, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Guardia Civil’s involvement began in September 2020 when officers intercepted a Croatian-flagged sailing boat bound for the Canary Islands carrying one tonne of cocaine. The drug shipment had been transferred from a freighter off the Gulf of Guinea. Encrypted communications from the devices of the three individuals arrested on the sailing boat were shared with Europol, advancing the investigation.

In August of the previous year, the Guardia Civil stopped another boat carrying 700kg of cocaine off the Canary Islands. Information from this bust revealed that the same Italian-Croatian crew had previously transported 500kg of cocaine from Brazil. Europol shared this intelligence with other partner countries, revealing that Belgium, Germany, and Serbia were pursuing the same individuals and their associates.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Spanish police arrested four people in Malaga and Tenerife on Wednesday, seizing jewelry, luxury watches, a gun, electronic equipment, and €109,000 in cash.

The Guardia Civil highlighted the unprecedented international police cooperation that dismantled the cartel’s West African logistics centers. The operation resulted in significant seizures including €12.5 million in cash across Europe, $3 million in Brazil, and the freezing of over €50 million in Serbia.

In August last year, Spanish police also seized 9.5 tonnes of cocaine hidden among boxes of bananas in a container from Ecuador to Algeciras, marking the largest stash ever found in a single container in Spain.

The UK, Germany, and France Jointly Condemn Iran’s Escalation of Its Nuclear Program

On June 15, the governments of the United Kingdom, Germany, and France jointly condemned Iran for its recent steps to escalate its nuclear capabilities.

The three European nations stated that Iran continues to “undermine” the 2015 nuclear agreement, which involved limiting Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of some sanctions — an agreement to which they are signatories.

Berlin, London, and Paris highlighted the latest data from the International Atomic Energy Agency, indicating that Iran plans to bring additional centrifuges into operation at its nuclear sites in Fordow and Natanz.

“This decision represents a further escalation of Iran’s nuclear program, which carries significant proliferation risks,” noted the UK, Germany, and France.

They called on Iran to return to compliance with the “nuclear deal” and emphasized that they would continue to take diplomatic steps to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.

Under the 2015 agreement, from which then-US President Donald Trump withdrew in 2018, Iran limited its nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief. Trump reimposed US sanctions on Iran, leading Tehran to resume previously banned nuclear activities and reviving concerns in the US, Europe, and Israel that Iran might be aiming to develop a nuclear bomb. Iran denies having such ambitions.

Ukraine Conference Draft Communique Calls Out Russia’s War on Ukraine

BUERGENSTOCK, Switzerland: A draft communique for a summit of world leaders convened to pursue a pathway for peace in Ukraine makes reference to Russia’s “war” against Kyiv and urges that Ukraine’s territorial integrity be respected, according to a copy of the document seen by Reuters.

The final communique is due to be issued on Sunday at the conclusion of the two-day conference at the Buergenstock resort in central Switzerland. The draft was dated June 13.

The Swiss government has said it hopes the final summit declaration will be supported unanimously by participants. The document tracked certain changes made to the draft.

The document also calls for the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to be restored to Ukrainian control and for Kyiv’s access to its Azov sea ports to be safeguarded.

‘Unaffordable’: State of Australia’s Housing Market Laid Bare

As the nation tries to come to grips with the ongoing rental crisis and what is by some metrics the most unaffordable housing in living memory, the issue of housing is shaping up to be a key political battleground for both the coming year and the next federal election.

New home demand

Before we get into the figures, we need to make an important distinction, the numbers that will follow are based on the number of new dwellings that are required in net terms, not the number of dwellings that need to be completed.

As of the latest comparable figures from the ABS, roughly 15 per cent of new dwelling completions do not result in a net addition to overall dwelling stock.

This can be due to the impact of knock down rebuilds, the demolition of existing homes to make way for new developments and infrastructure or a number of other factors.

Over the last 40 years, the source of demand for new homes stemming from population growth has varied dramatically.

In the year to June 1993, 17.8 per cent of demand for new homes stemmed from the impact of migration, assuming a consistent household size across the population.

As of the latest figures from the ABS which cover up to the September quarter of 2023, 83.2 per cent of demand driven by population growth stems from net migration.

South Africa Coalition Talks Reach Critical Point as Parliament Convenes

With just hours remaining before South Africa’s parliament convenes for the first time since the African National Congress (ANC) lost its majority in last month’s elections, coalition negotiations are ongoing to form a new government.

The ANC has announced a “breakthrough” in forming a government of national unity, but details are still forthcoming. Solly Malatsi, a spokesman for the main opposition Democratic Alliance (DA), told the BBC that while “major aspects” of a framework deal have been concluded, “we are not there yet.”

A key task for parliament will be a secret vote on whether Cyril Ramaphosa remains president. Although a coalition deal is not finalized, Ramaphosa is expected to be re-elected. The ANC lost its parliamentary majority for the first time in 30 years in the May 29 election, securing only 40% of the vote, necessitating support from other parties for Ramaphosa to stay in power.

“We are talking to political parties as we speak right now,” ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula told reporters after a Thursday evening meeting of the party’s top officials, but he refrained from giving further details. He did indicate a shift to the political center, as left-leaning breakaway ANC parties have declined to join a coalition.

Parties, including the pro-business DA, have agreed on forming a government of national unity. However, the ANC and DA have yet to finalize cooperation details. “If the DA were to get some of these things that it wants, it means the ANC will be dead,” Mbalula added. The DA, which came second with 22% of the vote, remains in delicate negotiations.

DA spokesman Solly Malatsi noted, “There were still very key outstanding matters that ought to have been finalised by the end of the day yesterday [Thursday]. That wasn’t the case due to the nature of the negotiations we’re in.”

The Zulu nationalist Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), which secured 4% of the vote, has already committed to participating in a government of national unity.

President Ramaphosa has previously criticized the DA, which predominantly garners support from racial minorities, as “treasonous” and “reactionary.” A deal with the DA would be controversial among many ANC activists, given the DA’s advocacy for free-market economics, which conflicts with the ANC’s left-wing traditions.

The ANC’s effort to create a Government of National Unity (GNU) has not succeeded in bringing in the third— and fourth-largest parties—former President Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party and Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). MK demanded Ramaphosa’s resignation as a condition for coalition participation, a demand the ANC rejected. The EFF, led by Malema, refused to join any government involving the DA, accusing it of pushing an “imperialist agenda.”

Both MK and EFF also called for constitutional changes to allow for nationalization, including of white-owned land and banks, a stance opposed by Ramaphosa, who stated the ANC would not form a coalition with parties seeking such constitutional amendments.

Afghan Migrant Shot and Killed After Going on Stabbing Rampage in Germany

BERLIN (AP) — German police shot to death an Afghan man after he fatally attacked a compatriot and later wounded three people watching the televised opening game of the Euro 2024 soccer tournament in eastern Germany, police said Saturday.

The 27-year-old Afghan citizen first attacked a 23-year-old compatriot with a “knife-like object” in Wolmirstedt, a small town about 130 kilometers (80 miles) west of Berlin, on Friday evening, police said. The victim later died of his wounds.

The man later attacked a group of people watching the soccer game between Germany and Scotland in the yard of a private house, injuring three German men, two of them seriously, police said.

Police said the assailant, still armed with the same object, also attacked officers called to the scene. Two of the officers shot and wounded the man, who died soon after in a hospital.

Missouri Abortion Ban Wasn’t About Lawmakers Imposing Religious Beliefs, Judge Says

A judge in Missouri says lawmakers who passed a restrictive abortion ban were not trying to impose their religious beliefs on everyone in the state, rejecting a case filed by more than a dozen Christian, Jewish and Unitarian Universalist leaders who support abortion rights.

The groups sought a permanent injunction last year barring Missouri from enforcing its abortion law and a declaration that provisions violate the state Constitution.

One section of the statute at issue reads: “In recognition that Almighty God is the author of life, that all men and women are ‘endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among those are Life.’“

  1. “Czechia: Housing Crisis Deepens in Prague: Buying an Apartment Now Requires 15.4 Annual Salaries”

This is what happens when your central bank is controlled from Brussels and in Brussels (Berlin, and Washington) they said they want to keep Czech wages artificially low by keeping the Czech currency artificially undervalued…

“It’s good for export!” They say…

Yeah – it’s good for the foreign companies who have international production facitilies here – they can cheaply produce and then export – with very little money remaining in the country.

Now everyone around has more money then the “average Czechs” who will never own a house because their low wages simply don’t allow it.

Average Czech – waiters, low lever construction workers, make about 1000 euro a month.

      • Well, it would be a long discussion, most probably it’s the fact the Protektorat is a collony of the Empire with very subservient government class that has always been subservient to Vienna, to Berlin, to Moscow, and now to Washington…

…but some would say – the Germans always try to extract taxes from the “indigenous slavic populations” – even the first “state” over here, the Samo’s Empire, begun as a united front against the german tax collectors – and it’s been like that for last 1300 years or so, the Czechs are either free or they get to get ruled by the Germans. But – it’s a complicated history which can’t be told in one paragraph.
