What the U.S. House Impeachment Inquiry Wouldn’t Ask Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch

The issue of the Armenian Genocide has intersected with impeachment politics, due to the involvement of Marie Yovanovitch, who in addition to being the former ambassador to Ukraine is also the former ambassador to Armenia. David Boyajian has the report.

What the U.S. House Impeachment Inquiry Wouldn’t Ask Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch

by David Boyajian

Turkey, the increasingly wayward NATO member, has been making more national and international headlines than usual.

On Oct. 29, for instance, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed (405-11) Resolution 296. It recognized the Armenian, Assyrian, Greek, and other Christian genocides committed by Turkey.

A contentious, widely criticized White House meeting involving President Trump, Turkey’s autocratic President Erdogan, and Republican senators then took place on Nov. 13.

Two days later, Marie L. Yovanovitch, dismissed by President Trump in May of 2019 as U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, testified on national TV before the House Select Committee on Intelligence’s impeachment inquiry. Her dismissal, she alleged, occurred because Trump attorney and confidant Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump Jr., Fox News hosts, and others had been slandering her as disloyal to the president.

There are intriguing links among the House’s Genocide resolution, the Trump-Erdogan-Senators meeting, and Yovanovitch who was Pres. George W. Bush’s (“Bush II”) Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia.

What no Democratic or Republican committee member dared ask Yovanovitch — and what she didn’t wish to discuss — was her apparent 13-year-long failure to criticize the scandalous dismissal and forced early retirement of a fine American diplomat, John Marshall Evans.

Evans was Bush II’s ambassador to Armenia (June 2004 to Sept. 2006). Yovanovitch followed him in that post (Sept. 2008 to June 2011).

Due to senators’ revulsion at Evans’ dismissal, the ambassadorship stood empty for two years.

Armenian-American communities always host U.S. ambassadors to Armenia. In February of 2005, Ambassador Evans told them, “I will today call it the Armenian Genocide” because “it is unbecoming of us as Americans to play word games.”

It was an honest admission of America’s 90-year-long recognition of Turkey’s extermination (1915-23) of 1.5 million Armenian Christians. But the State Department disliked Evans’ use of the word “genocide.” Turkey cried foul too.

At Turkey’s insistence, the State Department tells American diplomats and presidents to avoid the G word (genocide) regarding the Armenian extermination. Such spinelessness, while typical of the State Department’s traditional obsequiousness towards Turkey, is a disgrace.

Yet Ambassador Evans was simply echoing, as but one example, President Reagan’s Proclamation 4838 in 1981 which cited “the genocide of Armenians.”

Regrettably, post-Reagan presidential statements commemorating the Genocide have avoided the G word. They employ euphemisms such as “annihilation,” “forced exile and murder,” “infamous killings,” “terrible massacres,” and “marched to their death.”

Blundering American Ambassadors Unmask the War on Terror

David Boyajian’s latest report discusses the less-than-pristine policies of the State Department when it comes to dealing with the Great Jihad in the Middle East.

Blundering American Ambassadors Unmask the War on Terror

by David Boyajian

We know that U.S. ambassadors tend to be bureaucratic and boring.

If you challenge them forcefully, however, the resulting outbursts can provide stunning insights into their ineptitude and State Department policies.

Consider the mind-boggling statements made by then-Ambassador to Armenia Richard M. Mills during the Q & A at Holy Trinity Armenian Church in Cambridge, MA.

I had bluntly questioned Mills about the Turkish government’s support for ISIS and similar jihadist/terrorist organizations.

Though this occurred two years ago (March 3, 2016), his answers remain relevant to America’s so-called “War on Terror” and the ongoing wars in Syria and Iraq.

When posing my question, I said that I would be handing everyone in the audience a study entitled “Research Paper: ISIS-Turkey Links by Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights.

Dr. David L. Phillips, the director of its Program on Peace-building and Human Rights, oversaw the study. The widely-published Phillips is a foreign affairs adviser for the State Department and the United Nations.

Using dozens of sources, the study definitively established that Turkey was providing weapons, ammunition, financing, transportation, training, and recruits to ISIS in Syria and Iraq and to other terrorist groups such as al-Nusra, an al-Qaeda offshoot.

Incredibly, Mills angrily replied that Turkey had not helped jihadists/terrorists in any way.

The ambassador even claimed that if some jihadists had entered Syria from Turkey they did so only by sneaking past Syrian refugees who were crossing in the opposite direction. To its credit, the polite Armenian American audience refrained from laughing.

Mills’ hyperbolic defense of Turkey was particularly incongruous, as American-Turkish relations were even then headed downhill toward today’s quagmire.

Moreover, the ambassador’s vindication of Turkey went even further than had the Obama administration.

Indeed, in a rare moment of frankness Vice-President Joe Biden himself told a Harvard University audience (Oct. 2, 2014) that “our allies” Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and UAE were “our largest problem in Syria … giving hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of tons of weapons” to jihadist organizations.

These included, said Biden, al-Nusra, al-Qaeda, “extremist” jihadis, and ISIL [ISIS].

Though Biden never withdrew his statements, Pres. Obama soon forced him to apologize to Turkey and UAE to spare them and America further embarrassment.

Mills also vehemently denied that Turkey was buying oil from ISIS.

Khamzat Azimov’s Martyrdom Video

Yesterday a “Frenchman” named Khamzat Azimov went on a rampage with a knife in central Paris, killing one person and wounding four others before being shot dead by police. Mr. Azimov was a French citizen who was born in Chechnya.

Witnesses reported that as he attacked people, the murderer shouted “Allahu Akhbar”, which is Arabic for “I am poor, bitter, disadvantaged, discriminated against, and alienated from French society”*.

SITE Intelligence Group obtained a copy of Khamzat Azimov’s martyrdom video. In the clip, as you will see, the young man rambles aimlessly, mixing bizarre statements in French with an incomprehensible foreign language. He makes references to a supernatural being that does not exist. This recording supports the hypothesis that Mr. Azimov was confused, delusional, and mentally disturbed, and chose his victims totally at random.

Armenia’s People-Power Revolution, Russia, and the Western Bloc

The Armenian-American writer David Boyajian provides some background for the “color revolution” currently underway in Armenia. See also this translated Bild article.

Armenia’s People-Power Revolution, Russia, and the Western Bloc

by David Boyajian

As we write this, massive peaceful civil actions against Armenia’s establishment have continued under the leadership of Nikol Pashinyan, a National Assembly (N.A.) member who is part of the opposition Yelk (Way Out) Alliance. Though widely unpopular Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan has been forced to resign, his Republican Party (RPA) still has a narrow majority (58 of 105) in the N.A. Most observers believe that the RPA members were elected through fraud, bribery, and intimidation.

The RPA’s politicians and oligarchs are also generally blamed for stealing billions of the country’s wealth; violating civil rights; debasing the judiciary and civil service; keeping the talented Armenian Diaspora at arm’s length; and failing to successfully address Armenia’s many problems: corruption, a less-than-robust economy, unemployment, outward migration, and more.

A bright spot: Landlocked Christian Armenia and its brother Artsakh/Karabagh Republic survive, even though blockaded by genocidal Turkey and Turkic/Muslim Azerbaijan who outnumber Armenians by 90 million people. This miracle is due to the tenacity of Armenia’s people and armed forces.

As Armenia is a long-time friend and admirer of our country, we Americans need to understand it.

Why Armenia Matters

The current revolution is home-grown and purely Armenian. Outside powers — whether countries or organizations — neither initiated nor control the revolution. Still, major nations definitely have strong opinions, usually unstated, about the present crisis.

Russia loathes the revolution. Russia wants Armenia to continue to be highly dependent on it for natural gas, the nuclear power plant and energy grid, investments, sophisticated weapons, and the right to travel to Russia to work and sometimes deposit stolen money. Ongoing corruption in Armenia makes it easier for Russia to bribe, intimidate, and blackmail dishonest leaders and oligarchs, represented mainly by the RPA. A Russian base guards Armenia’s border with Turkey.

Why is Russia so intent on controlling its small ally? Because without Armenia, Russia would lose its grip on the Caucasus, Caspian Sea, and probably Central Asia. The US/NATO/EU/Turkey (“Western Bloc”) would then move in. Thus perched along the Russian Bear’s soft underbelly, NATO would slice it open and have his insides for dinner. Therefore Russia needs Armenia far more than it cares to admit.

Georgia was coopted by the Western Bloc years ago. It has invested billions in Georgia, which desires NATO membership as protection against Russia.

Azerbaijan, corrupt and a virtual dictatorship, but flush with oil and gas income, has also expressed interest in joining NATO. Over 27 years, the Western Bloc has invested untold billions in Azerbaijan in such sectors as energy, banking, hotels, aviation, agriculture, and consulting. The Western Bloc has also constructed major oil and gas pipelines from Azerbaijan’s Caspian fields through Georgia and into Turkey and beyond. More such pipelines (to supply Europe) are planned.

Interestingly, Israel receives around 40% of its oil from Azerbaijan and sells it billions in weapons. Major Jewish organizations such as the American Jewish Committee provide Azerbaijan political support while, sadly, a coterie of Jewish writers constantly and unfairly berate Armenia in the US and international media.

The Coolest Revolutionaries in the World

A “color revolution” is underway in Armenia, and it appears that the protesters have achieved their goal.

Many thanks to JLH for translating this article from Bild:

Accompanied by Horns and Dancing, the Coolest Revolutionaries in the World Come to Power

May 3, 2018

BILD describes the situation in Armenia — the land that is suddenly making headlines. They are celebrating the success of a velvet revolution that is said to have paved the way for a regime change.

Yesterday an opposition politician and today leader of a revolution, Nikol Paschinian (42) is on the way to power in Armenia. And he is already the hero of the “little people” who are lining up to embrace him.

Paschinian’s followers are singing and dancing in the squares of Armenia’s few cities, and driving through the streets happily blowing their horns. In the capital of Yerevan — geographically in Asia, but culturally European — there is a festive atmosphere. After days of a street blockade, everything points to a power transfer on May 8th.

But the victory of their peaceful revolution is by no means certain. Pessimists still fear that the old system will strike back by sending in the police and military.

The hopes of many Armenians for a peaceful revolution and an end to nepotism at the levers of power rest upon Nikol Paschinian.

“The problem is as good as solved”

What had happened: After their defeat in parliament, the protest movement in Armenia had yesterday instituted the largest blockade ever of public life in the ex-Soviet republic. Even through roads, the international airport at Yerevan, the train to Georgia and several border crossings were affected.

Most of the young demonstrators formed human chains and waved red-blue-apricot banners. The apricot is the most important export of this bitterly poor country. So the revolution is also being called the Apricot Revolution.

A whole country blockaded by singing and dancing demonstrators

Yerevan is rumbling. It is the greatest revolution in a former Soviet republic (three million residents) since the pro-European Maidan movement wave of protests in the Ukraine in 2013-2014.

The Islamic Trade in European Slaves

The following essay by Emmet Scott was published previously at The New English Review in a slightly different form. It provides apposite material to accompany Matt Bracken’s new novel, The Red Cliffs of Zerhoun.

The Islamic Trade in European Slaves

by Emmet Scott

It is common knowledge that for over a thousand years, Arab and Muslim slavers took enormous numbers of men, women and children from sub-Saharan Africa. What is not so well known is that they took equally large numbers of people from Europe. As with Africa, Arab slave-taking in Europe began in the seventh century — shortly after the rise of Islam — and continued virtually without interruption into the modern epoch.

Modern Western culture, with its Anglo-centric worldview, has an almost obsessive preoccupation with the European trade in African slaves, a trade that commenced in the late fifteenth century and ended in the mid-nineteenth, but seems to have little knowledge of or interest in the equally intense Muslim trade in European slaves during the same epoch. This is a strange state of affairs, given the fact that, in general, the Europeans enslaved by the Muslims between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries were treated appallingly, and the trade had a long-term and devastating impact upon large areas of the continent.

As noted, Muslim slave-taking from Europe commenced almost immediately after the arrival of Islam on the world stage. These early slave raids had an immense impact upon European civilization and, as I have argued in some detail in Mohammed and Charlemagne Revisited, turned the entire Mediterranean into a war zone, broke the unity of the eastern and western branches of Roman civilization and Christendom in general, and essentially gave birth to the medieval world. With the Christian counter-attack, which commenced in the eleventh century with the Reconquista in Spain and the Crusades, Muslim slave-raiding abated somewhat, though it never actually ended. But following the emergence in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries of the Ottoman Turkish Empire, Islam was once again on the offensive; and with this renewed aggression came a vast expansion of the slave trade.

It is impossible to be precise or anything approaching it when talking about the number of slaves taken from Europe in the five centuries following the rise of Ottoman power. However, what is clear is that three main theatres of slave-raiding emerged. The first and by far the most important of these was in south-east and central Europe, where Ottoman armies engaged in annual assaults upon Christian territories. As the Turkish armies moved ever northwards and westwards they captured and enslaved great numbers of Europeans, the vast majority of whom were sold in Constantinople and Anatolia. Raiding Christian territories was incessant and we hear that, “The primary aim of the [Ottoman] raiders was the acquisition of booty. The most important booty was humans who could be sold at the slave markets for a high price. After a successful attack thousands of prisoners of war were driven to the Ottoman markets. … No one was safe in the endangered areas — nobles and serfs could equally become slaves.” (Eniko Csukovits, “Miraculous escapes from Ottoman captivity” in Geza David and Pal Foder (eds.) Ransom Slavery along the Ottoman Borders (Early Fifteenth-Early Eighteenth Centuries) (Leiden etc. Brill Academic, 2007) p. 5) As in other parts of the world, the Muslim slavers preferred young women and boys and these offered the highest price in the Turkish heartlands. Most of the boys were castrated and served as eunuchs, whilst the girls and women were destined for the harems of the Ottoman nobility.

It must not be imagined, as some might, that once a Christian territory was conquered and under tribute to the Ottomans that it was then immune from the attentions of the slavers. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Under sharia law the position of Christians was never secure, and Christian girls were regularly kidnapped by Muslim raiders and sold into the harems of Constantinople and Anatolia. In addition to this, Ottoman policy was to recruit Christian boys into the army, and these youths formed the elite core of Janissaries. But they were “recruited” by force, essentially kidnapped from their families and never again seen by them. So, although the Janissaries cannot, strictly speaking, be described as slaves, they were the victims of kidnap and forcible conversion to an alien faith. We should note, too, that rebellion against Ottoman rule, a common enough occurrence in Europe, was invariably met with savage reprisal, involving massacre, torture and enslavement; so that the total number of Europeans enslaved by the Ottomans grew, over the centuries, to enormous proportions. How many, it is impossible to say, mainly because no reliable records are available. However, it is beyond question that the number ran into many millions, with estimates ranging anywhere from ten to forty million.

The Dark Truth About Gender Equality

Our Dutch correspondent H. Numan wades into the Culture Wars with a discussion of what is now commonly known as “trans”.

A note from the author on the photo below: “Both people are reporting for the draft, but the monk has a much better chance of having to serve. (Shows in their faces.)”

The dark truth about gender equality

by H. Numan

Gentle men and women, can you keep your nutcases under control, please? I can’t really write men and women anymore. How should I address you? Beloved comrades of the Gates? Dear readers? Your social justice warriors (or whiners, as I see them) are spreading with gusto and enthusiasm to Europe. Amsterdam and the Dutch Railways NS will no longer use proper genders, as it might offend some seriously disturbed people. Men who think they are women and vice versa.

Amsterdam also wants to ban smoking in its entirety within the city, while we are at it.

To start with the latter, I merely have one simple question: tobacco is a huge cash cow for any government. Do you honestly believe your government will simply forgo that enormous source of income? If smoking is banned, are you going to pay it? If you, activist non smoker, don’t want to pay it, who should? The (now ex) smokers have stopped, as you desired. They can’t afford it anymore. It’s your turn, or do you really think it works any differently?

Now back to the gender-benders. I happen to live in one of the few countries on earth with a fairly substantial percentage of ‘kathoeys’ as we call them or ladyboys. Men who feel they should have been born women, or women who feel they should be born as men. Mainly men, though. Very few women. I’ve met quite a few here in my 25 years in Thailand, and I’m still mystified by them.

Many of them begin to notice their different feelings in high school. They very often dress as girls, which means wearing girls’ uniforms in school or university. In Thailand everyone in the educational system wears a uniform. Red in preschool, khaki in primary school, blue in high school and black on universities. Girls wear skirts, boys trousers. You are probably amazed to hear that points for good behavior are also given on universities. Berkeley activists very likely wouldn’t be able to graduate from a Thai university… However, ladyboys are allowed to wear skirts in most universities and a lot of high schools.

Some schools set up ‘third gender’ bathrooms, if the number of ladyboys is high enough to warrant the extra cost. Thais are fairly easy going with regard to sexuality. Don’t get me wrong — boinking in the streets is a definite no-no. Showing affection in public is also frowned upon. Kissing in public for example, is something not really done here. Whatever you do, you do it in private.

Thailand is a Buddhist country, with no real monotheistic stigma on sex. If you’re hungry, you eat. If you’re thirsty, you drink. If you feel randy, well … Fill in the blanks. But not in public! Most boys loose their virginity in brothels, where they are taken by their peers. On one hand, Thais are very prudish, much more so than in the West. On the other hand, anything goes. It never ceases to amaze me.

Living together as a gay couple is completely normal here. But not legally married. My Dutch marriage is not valid in Thailand. Funnily enough, about half the residents of my condominium live together. Nobody blinks an eye. There is talk about legalizing gay marriage, but there is also talk about legalizing marijuana or building the Kra canal. Don’t hold your breath, though.

Parents aren’t exactly thrilled with joy if their son decides he’d rather be a girl, and starts acting as one. But mostly they go along with it. Nor are their peers very sympathetic. Teasing and bullying happen a lot. That’s why ladyboys often stick together, and probably one reason why there are so many in Thailand. The older ladyboys get the hormones the younger ones want but cannot buy in the pharmacy due to the age limit. The pill is only available for 16 and over.

Now the darker side of the story. If you’re young you are immortal. Death is somewhere far, far away in the future. Other people die. Not you. Same goes for beauty. Beauty eventually fades away. No matter what you do. Most of us accept that fact, but it is something extremely difficult for kathoeys to accept. Not surprisingly, the suicide rate is unbelievably high amongst them.

The Violent Guardians of Chechen Women’s Virtue — In Berlin

Chechen immigrants living in Germany form an insular group. Their Islamic faith, plus the stern and violent traditions imported from the Caucasus, form a mixture that can be dangerous and deadly — especially to Chechen women.

Many thanks to JLH for translating this report from Der Tagesspiegel:

Chechen “moral guardians” in Berlin

“Don’t Say You Weren’t Warned!”

When nude photos of a Berlin Chechen woman reach the internet, her family intends to kill her. The 19-year-old escapes. But her flight is just beginning.

by Dmitri Vachedin (with the assistance of Hannes Heine)
July 17,2017

On an evening in late November last year, the furious uncle telephones, calls his 19-year-old niece “a whore,” demands to speak with the parents, and makes suggestions of how to proceed now that these photos are in circulation. These suggestions are such that they are entered the following day on a form in the Berlin police district. Under “crime” is handwritten “Threat in the name of honor.”

As the niece tells it, she was supposed to be killed. Her mother was to get her out of Berlin to Chechnya, where the family came from. There, she was to die at the hands of her uncle, who had also gone there from Germany.

She says: “If I don’t change my name and appearance, they will find me.” She is now living temporarily in another German city, distant enough from Berlin that she will not coincidentally encounter her family. Anyone who wishes to meet with her must do it under the condition of not giving up her name, and much more. Data and details have been altered for her protection. But she does want to talk. Her story has been told in the Russian-language, online portal, Meduza. The young woman, whose name here is Madina, has escaped, but she is not safe.

When Madina left her parental home, her “case” ceased to be a family affair and became one for the Chechen community. Now, says Madina, it is the duty of any Chechen man to find her and punish her. It is a kind of code of behavior, she says, and there are men in Berlin who are prepared to act on this obligation.

Chechens living in Germany agree in reporting about a Berlin hit group, comprising up to 100 men, who are said to be armed and led by people with battle experience.

There is a video going around the Chechen community by way of WhatsApp that is attributed to this group. A quote from the video: “Here in Europe, a number of Chechen women — and men who look like women — do unspeakable things.” When there is the opportunity, “we will discipline them.” The group runs through the streets, speaks to Chechen women; in the best cases there is just a reprimand. “You look like a slut.” Madina says she has had that experience. Lipstick is enough. Unspeakable. Discipline. What for?

On that November evening, when her uncle phoned, called her a whore and demanded that her parents be brought to the telephone, Madina says, she went pale immediately. She sensed what was going to happen. That evening, her cell phone had been stolen. There were photos stored on it — pictures of her in a club with a bottle of beer in her hand. In a bar with a cigarette. Pictures of her nude. They turned up quickly in WhatsApp chat groups that Chechens use to communicate with one other.

The uncle pronounces Madina’s death sentence and her parents agree. He instructs the mother to fly to Moscow with her daughter the next day, and then on to Chechnya. They would meet him there.

A known, but rare, procedure, say Chechen experts. Although the drastic solution is rare, the tendency to and occasions for violence are familiar. Problems — even those that are really nothing — are taken care of inside the family. Supposed codes of honor play a large role. People are shaped by war, terrorism and religion. Older Chechens are often moderate Muslims; younger ones are finding radical Islam attractive. Many of them have archaic concepts of morality. There are reports of prisons in which gays are tortured. Because of that, a homosexual man from Chechnya was, for the first time, given the rarely granted “humanitarian asylum” in Germany.

Jive Talkin’ With the Chechen Jihad

The video below appears to be an example of how Chechen mujahideen get down and groove on gangsta hip-hop culture, Islamic style. I watched it with the sound turned down, so I can’t tell you what the “music” is like. But the pencil-neck Islamo-geek doing the jive talkin’ looked pretty inane and pointless to me.

The Routes Used by Organized Crime to Traffic “Refugees” Into Europe

About a year ago the principal route for the migration into Europe was closed off, thanks largely to the efforts and leadership of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Until 2015, the largest flow had been across the Mediterranean from Libya and Tunisia to Lampedusa, Malta, Sicily, and the southern coast of the Italian mainland. Migrants had been prevented from crossing the Aegean from Turkey to the Greek Islands — a very short voyage — by the actions of the Turkish coast guard, which would catch and return the boats. But in 2015 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan decided to change his policy (for reasons that can only be speculated about — we’ve made some informed guesses here), and stopped the interdiction the smugglers’ vessels. The traffickers seized the opportunity, and started carrying hundreds of thousands of migrants from Anatolia to Lesbos and Chios.

The rest of the story is familiar: The Greek government ferried the arrivals to the mainland, where they stayed in camps until they could be picked up by buses and taken to the Macedonian border. From there the process was repeated at each successive border — get out of the bus or off the train, walk across the border for the photographers, and get picked up by the next bus or put on the next train.

At first the route led through Macedonia, Serbia, and Hungary to Austria. However, the Hungarians were alarmed by the chaos, filth, disease, and crime that came along with the migrants, so Mr. Orbán ordered the border to be closed as fast as possible. From then on Hungary became an obstacle to the migrant transports, and the route shifted to the west, through Croatia and Slovenia, to get to Austria.

After sustaining considerable damage from the migration, the Austrian government belatedly realized the necessity for its own border controls, and put up fences and crossing stations along its border with Slovenia. This caused the traffic to back up all the way along the Balkan Route, and one by one the other countries on the route shut their borders. The migrant flow eventually slowed to a trickle, and many thousands of immigrants were left stranded in huge reception centers on the Greek mainland.

As 2016 progressed, one could observe the main flow of the migration return to the passage across the Mediterranean from Libya to Italy. The migrants crossing from Libya to Italy are “rescued” near the North African coast and brought safely to Europe. The boats that pick them up — in addition to those of the Italian coast guard and Frontex vessels — are in the service of various “humanitarian” NGOs. At least some of those groups, but by no means all, are being financed by the Open Society Foundations and its subsidiaries.

However, the Mediterranean is not the preferred route — it’s longer and more difficult to use, hence more expensive. The route from Anatolia across the Bosphorus is much better, from the traffickers’ point of view.

Traffickers are now packing their clients into the cargo compartments of trucks and shipping them to the Balkans. From there they have to use various criminal stratagems to get them further into Europe — presumably forged documents, bribed customs officials, bogus bills of lading, and so on. To facilitate the transport, one would expect them to turn to the mafias, who have decades of experience smuggling contraband along those routes, and could get these loads of migrants into the Schengen Zone.

Somebody is paying for all of this — it’s an expensive process — but it’s not clear who the paymasters are.

The following article was published last May in the Kronen Zeitung. It describes a meeting in Afghanistan attended by representatives of a consortium of organized crime groups to discuss alternative routes for trafficking migrants into Europe. The preferred detour seems to have been a new northern route across Georgia, Ukraine, and Poland. I haven’t read any news stories about migrant transports being interdicted in any of those countries, but that may just mean that the smugglers have been largely successful — unlike those who use the route through Bulgaria and Romania, where shipments of migrants have been prominently blocked.

Intelligence Agencies Report

28 Illegal Immigrant Smuggling Mafia Bosses Plan New Storm on the EU

May 20, 2016

28 bosses of the largest illegal immigrant smuggling organizations in the world met in the Afghan capital of Kabul — and were intercepted by European intelligence agencies. The confidential report about the plans — and woes — of the people smugglers is available to Krone: New waves of migrants are planned to reach us in Austria via a new eastern route; the smuggling mafia plans to increase their profits.

Even the biggest 007-fans deride a summit like this: two dozen criminals meeting at a location and discussing their machinations and margins seems unrealistic.

[Graphic 1: The Human Smuggling Routes. Graphic by Krone.]

But in Afghanistan, 28 of the most influential human smuggling bosses indeed sat down at a table: they discussed their future strategies for human smuggling. But European intelligence services intercepted this meeting in Kabul, and the intelligence services authored a dossier which has now fallen into the hands of Krone.

[Graphic 2 (not shown): Recently, for this purpose, a coordination meeting took place with Afghan and foreign representatives of several human smuggling groups (12 from Afghanistan, 4 from Greece, 3 from Iran and Thailand respectively, 2 from turkey, Bulgaria and India respectively). Photo: AP/Gregorio Borgia, Krone]

In Kabul the Human Smuggling Mafia accordingly discussed the current crisis of their business model: twelve bosses from Afghanistan, four from Greece, three from Iran and Thailand respectively, two each from Turkey, Bulgaria and India, mourned the decline of their income — the border fences in Macedonia, Austria, Hungary and Bulgaria being “a problem”.

These are the most important points from the intercept log:

  • As the Balkan Route is blocked at Idomeni, a new human smuggling route from Afghanistan via Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, and Hungary, to Austria, is to be “explored and expanded”.
  • The goal is to smuggle “at least 300 Afghans per day” into Europe — in other words, in just one year 109,000 migrants from this country alone.
  • In furtherance of which the “effectiveness of the routes is to be increased”: the journey time from Afghanistan to Europe should be reduced to “three weeks maximum”.
  • After complains from customers already smuggled into Europe, “more women” should be brought into the EU.

The mafia bosses debated better ways to share the costs of bribing the border patrol officers in the Balkan countries.

Chechen Terrorists in Poland Sent Money Home — To the Islamic State

A number of Chechen mujahideen from the Islamic State sneaked into Poland disguised as “refugees”, and several were recently arrested. The following brief article from the Polish news site prostozmostu.net describes two of those arrested in Podlasie, a region of Poland.

Many thanks to Ava Lon for the translation:

Chechens in Podlasie connected with the IS, pretended to be refugees

13 September 2016

Two of the four detained Chechens suspected of collaborating with the Islamic State were beneficiaries of subsidiary protection, according to the site poranny.pl. In practice, this means that they enjoyed the same rights as refugees.

Others had previously been granted the so called “tolerated stay”, which allowed them to legally reside on the territory of the Polish state.

Chechens were active during the period from May to October 2014. Poranny.pl writes that Muslim immigrants collected almost €9,000, which had to be sent to the terrorists of the Islamic State. Additionally they were accumulating paramilitary equipment, as well as weapons and ammunition.

Their most spectacular action seems to have been the organizing of a surgery in Bialystok hospital. One of the terrorists had a bullet removed from his chest. Later, he was provided medical care and a stay in Poland, as well as help in returning to the Middle East.

Investigators reported that the group acted in Bialystok, Lomza, Warsaw [in Poland] and in Turkey. The men were legal residents in Poland, and one of them was later captured in Germany. The defendants are pleading not guilty.

Islam and the “Sexual Ethics” of Jihad Slavery

Dr. Andrew Bostom, the author of The Legacy of Jihad, spoke about Islamic slavery at an event in St. Louis, Missouri on January 29. A video of his speech has just become available:

Below is the text of Dr. Bostom’s talk, as published on his website.

Update, May 1, 2016: Between January 29, 2016 and the online posting of the videos, below, (April 30, 2016) another especially horrific act of jihad sex slavery barbarism was committed by ISIS: the pious Muslim jihadist organization murdered some 250 women — believed to be primarily Yazidi captives — who refused to submit to the brutal humiliation of Islamic sexual slavery.

Sociologist Jules Monnerot’s 1949 book, “Sociology of Communism,” made very explicit connections between Islamic and 20th-century Communist totalitarianism. The title of his first chapter dubbed Communism as “The Twentieth-Century Islam.” Monnerot elucidates these two primary shared characteristics of Islam and Communism: “conversion” — followed by subversion — from within, and the fusion of “religion” and state. He argued, “Communism takes the field both as a secular religion and as a universal State; it is therefore . . . comparable to Islam…,” while each also “…work[s] outside the[ir] imperial frontiers to undermine the social structure of neighboring States.”

Indeed, a humorist contemporary of Monnerot had cogently highlighted the striking similarities between Islam and Communism, referring to the Communist creed with this aphorism: “There is no G-d, and Karl Marx is his prophet.”

Sadly, in our present stultifying era, which increasingly demands only a hagiographic view of Islam, even such witty, illuminating aphorisms may become verboten. Witness President Obama’s stern warning during his Tuesday, September 25, 2012, speech to the UN General Assembly, when he proclaimed:

”The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”

The late Islamologist Maxime Rodinson warned in 1974 of a broad academic campaign — which has clearly infected policymakers across the politico-ideological spectrum — “to sanctify Islam and the contemporary ideologies of the Muslim world.” A pervasive phenomenon, Rodinson ruefully described the profundity of its deleterious consequences:

”Understanding [of Islam] has given way to apologetics pure and simple.”

An ex-Communist himself, Maxime Rodinson (d. 2004), reaffirmed the essential validity of Monnerot’s 1949 comparison between Islam and Communism. During a September 28, 2001, interview with Le Figaro, Rodinson acknowledged that while still a Communist, he had taken umbrage with Monnerot’s assessment. But having long since renounced the Communist Party, Rodinson (circa September, 2001) conceded that there were “striking similarities” between Communism and Islam, noting that like Communism, traditional Islam promulgated “an ideology that claims to explain everything, drawing on a vision of the world that is fiercely paranoid [and] conspiratorial.”

Well, the only Marxist intellectual of any ilk that I fully appreciate — Groucho — once observed, “Beside a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside a dog, it is too dark to read.”

Today I will penetrate the fog of Islamic apologetics and cast light on subject matter relegated to silent darkness.

Our host Donna Hearne made a plaintive appeal that I redress the bowdlerization of Islamic slavery in secondary school textbooks, juxtaposed to their unsparing discussions of slavery as practiced by Western Europeans, and Americans. For example I discovered this thoroughly uninformative, mere 28 words dedicated to an alleged characterization of slavery, across space and time, in Islamdom, from the textbook, “World History – Patterns of Interaction,” 2007, Chapter 10, “The Muslim World, 600-1250 A.D.”:

Nazis Versus Muslims

The following article by Alain Wagner of Vérité, Valeurs et Démocratie was originally published in French at the VV&D website. Many thanks to Nathalie for the translation.

Nazis versus Muslims
by Alain Wagner

I regularly receive a newsletter written by a female friend who is a professor of philosophy in Canada. Her most recent newsletter dealt with the apparent discrepancy between how “Joe Public” viewed Muslims versus how Nazis were perceived, and what it revealed about the nature of the modern psyche.

The case of the Nazis

In the mind of the overwhelming majority of people today, all Nazis without exception are directly linked to the Final Solution, to the slaughter of the Jews, the Gypsies and of homosexuals and ultimately to the extermination camps. Nobody in their right mind would dare to suggest it might have been the fault of a few Nazi extremists whose actions gave a bad name to a political set of ideas which might have otherwise been viewed as quite respectable. All Nazis are tarred with the same brush: all shared the same ideology, the same set of beliefs, all had a hand in it and all were guilty of a horrendous crime.

My friend rightly reminded her readers that the Final Solution was only fully conceptualised and implemented in the year 1942, that the Nazi regime kept a tight lid on their plans, and that the existence of a police state made it very difficult for information to be circulated. There was at that time no Facebook on which to post video-clips of SS soldiers herding the inmates into the death camps, and no Internet to publish photos of grinning torturers in the process of putting their victims to death.

It is therefore perfectly plausible that a good number of Nazis weren’t in the know and remained ignorant of what was happening in the extermination camps masquerading as concentration camps.

This does not mean that they were either philo-Semitic or great lovers of democracy, but it does render the equation of Nazi = Holocaust rather moot, as not all Nazis were party to the extermination plan. It is, therefore, within the realm of possibility that amongst those opportunistic individuals who joined the party to further their social or professional standing, not all were monsters.

The conclusion drawn is that not all Nazis were killers and that, had they been privy to the real darkness at the heart of their ideology, many would probably have turned away in disgust and revulsion.

We might have called these “moderates” or “reformed-Nazis”, whilst the rest of them, those who could quietly contemplate unspeakable horrors and still remain faithful to the Nazi party were complicit in the crime, far past any possible redemption and as guilty as they come.

Muslims and a case of double standards

The way Muslims are perceived is exactly the other way round. Even though all Muslims, including each and every Taliban and each and every killer from the Islamic State, belong part and parcel to the same ideological core set of beliefs, (i.e Islam), which is characterised by the worship of the same Book (the Koran), the same man as an example to follow (Mohammed), the same common law (sharia), we are told in no uncertain terms that we must not on any account let some rotten apples spoil the whole bunch.

To be totally honest, I do agree with this point of view. I always like to remind people in the audience when I am giving a lecture that generalisations always lead to falsehoods and unjust prejudices, and that one mustn’t conflate what people think and what they are. Individuals are not equivalent to their ideology, and ideas aren’t people.

What made me think long and hard is the difference in treatment when we start comparing the Nazis with our current set of Muslims: we are ordered to not lump all Muslims together, or as the French put it “Padamalgam”[1], which freezes our powers of thinking and then forbids us to question those Muslims who are currently living in our societies in accordance to their obedience to Islamic doctrine.

Chechen Enrichers Keep Women in Line in Vienna

The following article from Kronen Zeitung describes the violent methods used by Chechen asylum seekers in Vienna to enforce modesty and decorum among women.

Many thanks to Nash Montana for the translation:

Four Chechens beat Vienna men

Self appointed “moral enforcers” from Chechnya severely beat two men in Millennium City in the Vienna district Brigittenau. The religious zealots harassed a defenseless woman and her daughters. Subsequently they heavily injured the father and a witness who came to the aid of the women.

The bone of contention: A woman was on her way to a disco after 11pm with her daughters and their girlfriends. Suddenly four Chechen asylum seekers appeared, who are already known for being willing to use violence to enforce their moral views. The four morality terrorists objected loudly that at this late hour of the night the young women were still out, and they were physically abusive towards the women.

The shocked mother called her husband and asked him to come and help. As he arrived, he was immediately attacked and knocked to the ground. A 45-year-old witness to the situation wanted to help the victim — only to also be attacked brutally, and he had to be admitted to the hospital with severe wounds. “As my son lay in the ambulance, suddenly blood was gushing out of his jacket”, said the father of the computer technician to Krone. The police are investigating.
