Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/23/2018

The boat carrying 40 migrants that was waiting 12 miles offshore from Tunisia has been denied permission to land by the Tunisian government. Now the boat’s crew must try Malta and Italy again, which is where they started out.

In other migration news, Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini says he wants the government to spend less money on migrants, and plans to cut some social benefits for new arrivals in order to reach his goal.

Aldo Sterone on the Benalla Scandal: “The Elysée is Rotten With Thugs!”

In the following video the Algerian-French auto-pundit Aldo Sterone discusses the furore about Alexandre Benalla, a top bodyguard for President Emmanuel Macron who was videotaped beating up a street protester while dressed in police gear.

The part of the scandal that I don’t understand is why it took this long for the information to surface. The video has been around since May — why did it take until late July for the affair to surface? Someone must have leaked it, but they waited until last week to do so. Which probably means that timing was important, and the best moment to sandbag Mr. Macron was calculated to be right now — for reasons I don’t understand.

Anyway, here’s what Aldo has to say. Many thanks to Ava Lon for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling:

Faisal Hussain: A Nut Case With No Connection to Terrorism

It’s official: the Toronto shooter was a culture-enricher named Faisal Hussain. I’m a WAYCIST, so all I can say is: “What did you expect?”

Now it’s time to dust off the media mantra. Everybody repeat after me: “A lone wolf with a history of psychological problems who was radicalized online, with no connection to terrorism.” Keep repeating that until your eyes glaze over and your brain’s higher functions shut down.

Then you will be well-equipped to add, without further prompting: “The incident had nothing to do with Islam.”

The shooter’s bereaved family has already started the ball rolling by issuing a press release about their late son’s psychological difficulties. Here’s the latest CBC report:

Faisal Hussain ID’d as Gunman in Deadly Danforth Shooting Attack

Faisal Hussain has been identified as the gunman in the deadly Danforth Avenue shooting rampage. He was 29 and lived in the Thorncliffe Park neighbhourhood of Toronto.

Family of 29-year-old shooter says he had severe mental health issues

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) released Hussain’s identity on Monday evening, hours after he opened fire on a number of Danforth Avenue restaurants, killing two people and injuring 13 more.

Hussain, 29, then died of a gunshot wound after exchanging fire with Toronto police. The SIU is looking into whether Hussain was shot by police, or if he shot himself.

Earlier Monday, police executed a search warrant at Hussain’s residence, in the city’s Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood.

Hussain’s family issued an email statement to CBC Toronto saying they are devastated by what happened and suggested that their son was struggling with severe mental health challenges, including psychosis and depression.

“We are at a terrible loss for words but we must speak out to express our deepest condolences to the families who are now suffering on account of our son’s horrific actions,” the family’s statement said.

Hat tip: Vlad Tepes.

Mr. Smith Goes to Toronto

There was a mass shooting last night in Toronto. The incident may not merit the term massacre, since “only” two people were killed, with twelve others wounded.

I don’t know how the perp acquired his weapon, since Canada has such strict gun control. You’re not supposed to be able to buy a handgun up there in the Frozen North. The law obviously needs to be tightened…

Anyway, the incident has all the hallmarks of an Islamic terrorist attack, although it could also be the work of a common-or-garden psycho. However, early indicators are that the guy is at least a dark-complected culture-enricher, since the media are fastidiously avoiding giving out a name or description.

I’ll give a larger excerpt below, but here’s the relevant snip from CTV News:

Saunders said it’s too early to say what motivated the shooting.

“I’m looking at absolutely every single possible motive,” Saunders said.

[…]

Chris Lewis, CTV’s public safety analyst and a former commissioner of the OPP, said investigators would be looking into whether the man was working alone or had accomplices in planning or carrying out the shooting, what he may have been reading or talking about online, and how he obtained his gun.

“Was he inspired by some terrorist group? Was this a specific vendetta to kill a specific person and then he shot everybody else in his path?” he said.

When we eventually learn his “motive”, it will in all probability be that of a “lone wolf” who was “radicalized online”, with “no connection to terrorism”. In other words, unless a membership card for the Islamic State (or Al Qaeda, or Boko Haram, or Al Shabaab) was found in the pocket of the corpse, the perpetrator can’t have been a “terrorist”.

When I got up this morning I hailed Vlad on skype, hoping a card-carrying Canadian could give me more information, but he didn’t know any more than I did:

Baron:   Any word on the Toronto massacre? The article I read was very cagey about “motive”. No perp name, natch.
Vlad:   Yep. And the video link I sent you edits out where they seem about to give descriptions.
Baron:   So no name yet? The name will tell us, unless he’s a revert.
Vlad:   No, I think they are looking for any piece of paper he ever signed in his life where he didn’t use “Mohammed”.
Baron:   Lol
Baron:   Too true to be funny, actually.
Vlad:   So we will hear his name is “gimme ya numba”, as he left that on a napkin at a bar.
Baron:   Or he got a fake driver’s license using “John Smith”. All the media reports can then refer to him as “Smith, a Canadian citizen”.
Vlad:   Yes.

This is a screen cap from one of the videos showing the shooter in action:

I can’t tell anything about the fellow from this photo. He could easily be one of those new Martian immigrants brought into Canada under Justin Trudeau’s Interplanetary Refugee Resettlement Initiative.

Here’s a larger excerpt from the CTV News report:

A Detailed Account of Tommy Robinson’s Appeal on July 18

Our British correspondent Alan Smith sends the following account of last Wednesday’s court appeal by the legal team for Tommy Robinson of his thirteen-month prison sentence. Mr. Smith was present that day in the public gallery of the courtroom.

Appeal of Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (“Tommy Robinson”) against convictions and sentences at Canterbury and Leeds

by Alan Smith

Court 4, Royal Courts of Justice
10.30am, Wednesday 18 July 2018

Judges presiding:

Lord Burnett of Maldon, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales
    Mr Justice Turner
    Mrs Justice McGowan DBE

Author’s Note

This account of the Appeal hearing is based on notes written long-hand in Court. It offers a detailed description of the proceedings rather than a continuous transcript. The words recorded are based on those used, and certain phrases are in quote marks to indicate particular accuracy. Notes and clarifications are in square brackets.

At various points, the proceedings made reference to legal authorities, particularly the cases of West, and Nicholls vs Nicholls. The writer is unfamiliar with these, so details recorded here are incomplete. As the writer had to listen and write at the same time, there are likely to be other omissions.

A brief background: On 8 May 2017, Tommy Robinson had been given a three month suspended sentence for contempt of court after trying to film four Muslim men on trial at Canterbury Crown Court for raping a teenager. On 25 May 2018, Tommy Robinson was detained outside Leeds Crown Court for using social media to broadcast details of a trial which was subject to blanket reporting restrictions. He was gaoled the same day for 13 months for contempt of court by Judge Geoffrey Marson QC.

Court 4 was wood panelled with rows of bound law books on all sides. The room was high, the equivalent of several storeys, with windows at the very top. Microphones hung down on wires from various points. There were three four-foot TV screens: on the left and right walls, and the wall opposite the judges’ bench (behind the public gallery). In the front right corner (from the public’s perspective) was the dock with heavy black bars, and to the front left the press gallery. There was a large clock on the right-hand wall.

At 9.55am, Louis Mably QC, wearing wig and gown, entered and took a position on the right, as viewed from the public gallery. It was assumed by the writer that Mr Mably was the prosecutor, but it transpired that he was an independent barrister appointed by the Attorney General as a “friend of the court”, meaning he was there to offer advice and comment critically on Tommy Robinson’s appeal, rather than oppose it per se.

At 10am, Tommy’s legal team entered: Jeremy Dein QC and a female junior, both wearing wigs and gowns, and two other legal members, wearing suits. They sat to the left.

At 10.15am the three video screens came on, revealing Tommy Robinson. He looked well, slimmer, and his hair was thicker. He was wearing a long sleeved black shirt and jeans, and a belt with a decorative buckle. He was sitting at a table with an empty chair beside him and a black curtain behind. Occasionally Tommy drank from a white mug, and talked to someone off camera.

A male court official, with a foreign accent, asked Tommy, “Can you hear me?” Tommy said “Yes.” The official asked, “Can you confirm that your name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon?” “Yes.” “Can you see your barrister”? “Yeah.” The official said he would ask Tommy to identify himself again, at the beginning of the proceedings.

Peering into his monitor, Tommy asked, “Is it meant to be so small? Can you make the pictures bigger?” Tommy held his hands about six inches apart, to indicate the screen size. The official said he could not change the screen size, and asked whether Tommy could adjust it at his end. Tommy said he had a “big massive TV but three very small pictures”. The official said, “We cannot change that,” and Tommy replied, “Doesn’t matter, I can hear.”

From 10.23am for about a quarter of an hour there was waiting and silence. There were three court officials to the front; the four members of Tommy’s legal team; Louis Mably QC; six members of the press; and, in the public gallery, to the back of the court room, fifty people, both men and women, of various ages. There was a black security guard to the front right of the court room, sitting in a comfy red swivel chair; it was the same type of chair as those waiting for the judges.

At various points while waiting, Tommy hunched over his table with folded arms, or leant back in the chair. At one point he took to picking fluff off his shirt sleeve. At 10.31am, perhaps prompted by someone he could make out in the court room, he grinned and gave two thumbs up.

At 10.37am three clerks entered from doors behind the judges’ bench and laid out folders for the judges. At 10.39am a fair-haired female clerk said, “All rise,” and the three judges entered. Sir Ian Burnett of Maldon sat in the centre, Mr Justice Turner to the left, and Mrs Justice McGowan to the right (as viewed from the public gallery).

The court official asked Tommy, again, “Can you confirm that your name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon?” “Yes, I am.”

Lord Burnett said: “I’d like to say two things. There is a certain amount of interest in the case, and it is heartening to see so many people in court. However, there is likely to be technical argument, so members of the public coming and going [from the court] should do so in such a manner as to not disrupt the flow of the court”.

Lord Burnett said that there had been prior discussion as to whether there should be a reporting restriction order, and whether notes could be taken in court. He said that there was no order that these proceedings be subject to a reporting restriction, and that the general rule was that notes could be taken. He said that members of the press could tweet, and that they were aware of the limits.

Lord Burnett reminded the court that there remained in place an order in the Leeds Crown Court prohibiting reporting of what occurred at two trials.

Jeremy Dein QC said he was “extremely mindful” that arguments had been set out in writing, and he would welcome being informed if he dwelt on things of which the court was aware. He would not go into the facts of the case, as the court was aware of these.

Mr Dein said the appeals were “out of time.” Lord Burnett said Leeds was a little out of time, and Canterbury was a long way out of time: “Develop your submissions as to why the appeal should be heard.”

The MAGA Hat That Wasn’t There

Have you heard of an accused killer named Timothy Kinner?

No?

Well, it’s not really surprising if you haven’t. Unless you were paying very close attention to the news on July 1, you wouldn’t have noticed the story.

On the evening of June 30 a Mr. Kinner, a resident of Los Angeles, allegedly entered an apartment in a refugee-resettlement complex in Boise, Idaho. He was carrying a knife, and started stabbing people at the party, most of them immigrant children. The nine victims were from Syria, Ethiopia and Iraq. One of them — the 3-year-old birthday girl — later died in the hospital.

With all those puir wee bairns, the attack should have been a top news story for weeks. Especially since the victims were black or brown “refugees”. Their photos should have been shown over and over again on every news broadcast. Nancy Pelosi should have been tut-tutting on the floor of Congress about the puir wee bairns.

But it didn’t happen. The story quickly disappeared. If you’re wondering why, take a look at the photos at the top of this post: Timothy Kinner is the man on the left.

On the other hand, you’re probably aware of a man named Jarrod Warren Ramos, the accused killer of five people at the offices of the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. Mr. Ramos committed his alleged atrocity just two days before Mr. Kinner’s. The story hit the news big time, and stayed there. It was prominent enough to merit its own Wikipedia page.

Jarrod Ramos is the man on the right in the photo at the top of this post. He and Timothy Kinner share certain characteristics: each has long hair and an apparent sullen attitude. But there are certain significant differences, as you can see.

If Mr. Ramos — or any other white man — had attacked the “refugees” at that birthday party in Boise, the story would still be making above-the-fold headlines every day. Talking heads on all the major media channels would still be discussing it every evening. There would be massive anti-racism protests on the Mall in Washington DC. The photo of the appealing wee bairn would be on everyone’s TV screen all the time. It would be Trayvon Martin on steroids.

But it didn’t happen that way. Once the photo of the sullen man with the dreadlocks appeared, the story disappeared from the national news. I looked for it two weeks later, and it was gone.

The Trump-Putin Summit From a German Perspective

JLH has translated a couple of articles that discuss President Trump’s recent meeting with Vladimir Putin from a German viewpoint. These are pro-Trump pieces, so they are very much in the minority in Germany.

The translator includes this introductory note:

The AfD and Henryk Broder — The Dynamic Duo Call Out the World Opinion-Makers on the Trump-Putin Summit

What do thoughtful Germans think of the Trump-Putin summit, and how can they possibly disagree with the CDU-CSU, FDP, Greens, LINKE and SPÖ, as well as 95% of the world press, 100% of the Democrats, 90% of the RINOs and 105% of the Antifa, to say nothing of Google, Facebook and George Soros?

Do none of them recognize in Petr Bystron’s analysis of Trump’s opening remarks a reflection of the “art of the deal”?

The first translated article from Politically Incorrect:

AfD Expresses Satisfaction With Results of Summit Talks

July 18, 2018

(This is how “the summit” looks to the German incitement press: Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin masterfully pass the global political ball back and forth. “Bloodymir, is the f****** soccer ball really [not] bugged?”)

With the 3-day “Conference for Security and Cooperation” in Helsinki in the summer of 1975, there began the tradition of holding results-oriented Russian-American summits in Finland: The “spirit of Helsinki” began in the context of the historic meeting of American President Gerald Ford and Soviet State and Party Leader Leonid Brezhnev.

In the initialed final act — supported by the USA and Canada, as well as all of Europe, with the exception of self-isolated Albania — the West and the Eastern Block agreed on rules and principles for a peaceful coexistence, and a strengthened economic exchange. Helsinki 1975 was the first door-opener for a step-by-step rapprochement of the great powers and the fall of the Iron Curtain.

After the more or less renewed “splendid isolation” of EU-Europe from the USA and Russia, hitherto encouraged by the German humanitarian imperative, the disastrous foreign policy of lame-duck Barack Obama and a wobbly EU Commission President Juncker, the summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin on July 16, 2018 represents a significant step toward a new peaceful rapprochement of the two populous powers. No matter what kind of howl the manipulation press puts up.

The date of this meeting is not randomly meaningless. Exactly 100 years ago, in the night between July 17th and 18th in 1918, the Czarist family Romanov was liquidated by an ideologically blinded Bolshevik mob. Today they would be called Antifa.

But no matter how the German political-media complex rages and demonizes the approach to Russia of the self-made billionaire Donald Trump, the leading politicians of the “party of reason,” the AfD, welcome this courageous step in the direction of a long overdue international understanding.

AfD chief Petr Bystron: “The rapprochement of Trump and Putin is a good signal for Europe and the world.”

Video Reports on the Knife Attack in Lübeck

As reported earlier today, an Iranian went on a rampage on a bus in the German city of Lübeck, stabbing a number of people and leaving behind a backpack full of fire accelerants.

Egri Nök sends this update, including a revised casualty figure:

Ten wounded, three of them severely

Bodo Z. (74) a retired carpenter from Lübeck and a passenger, tells Bild:

“I was going to Travemünde to play outdoor chess. A colleague and I were sitting on the back left, behind the articulation. The man had caught my attention because he was dressed much too warmly. He wore a shirt, a pullover, a jacket with a fur collar. Suddenly there was smoke in the front of the bus, and a commotion.

“Then the man ran towards the back and stabbed a man in a wheelchair. Then he attacked my chess friend, who was sitting in the aisle. He was stabbed in the shoulder. After that, everyone left the bus and there was screaming. I left the bus, too, and thought to myself, I have to do something, and grabbed a branch. I saw how, by the bus, two men were wrangling with the attacker. I smacked him over the head with the branch. After that, he was quiet.”

Below are three videos about the incident. Many thanks to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling.

Iranian Goes Berserk With a Knife on a Lübeck Bus

The following report by Egri Nök was published earlier at Vlad Tepes in a slightly different form. Videos will be coming up shortly.

Germany: 9 Wounded in Stabbing Attack On Bus in Lübeck

by Egri Nök

An original translation from Bild:

Knife Attack on Lübeck Bus

Fist punch to the bus driver, then the perpetrator stabbed him!

  • Attacker (34) puts down a rucksack
  • Fire accelerant found
  • Nine wounded
  • Perpetrator a German citizen of Iranian background
  • He was a German Federal Army soldier
  • Chief prosecutor: “We have no clues indicating a political radicalization in any form”

By Jan-Henrik Dobers
July 20,2018

Nine people were wounded in a knife-attack in a crowded public service bus in Lübeck [state of Schleswig-Holstein] — one woman severely!

The Interior Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, Hans-Joachim Grote (CDU) told BILD: “The suspect is a 34-year old man — he is a German citizen of Iranian background. Six passengers were wounded with a knife. A total of nine people were wounded.”

No fatalities, according to the Chief Prosecutor.

The area around a bus stop in the district of Kücknitz was cordoned off. The deed took place on a bus headed for Travemünde (Line 30). The harbor festival Travemünder Woche (Travemünde Week) at Lübeck Bay begins there on Friday.

First a punch with a fist, then a knife

Interior Minister Grote describes the course of the attack to Bild: “At 1:47 PM the suspect stood in the middle of the articulated bus. The bus driver saw in the rearview mirror that the man was putting his backpack down.”[translator’s note: the backpack was smoking and people were screaming “there is a psycho!” according to Lübecker Nachrichten.]

At that, the driver stopped the bus and approached the perpetrator. Grote: “He confronted the man, upon which the man punched him in the face with his fist.”

After the wrangling that ensued, the knife-attack took place. “The man pulled out a knife and stabbed six passengers indiscriminately. In addition to the bus driver, two other people were wounded.”

Passengers overpower attacker

According to Chief Prosecutor Dr. Ulla Hingst, the other passengers intervened and were able to overpower the attacker. Hingst tells Bild: “Police then were able to arrest him.” He will be interrogated this Friday.

Chief Prosecutor: “We have no clues indicating a political radicalization in any form. The background for the deed is still unclear.”

Syrian Attempts Rape, Gets Six Months. Then Violence and Mayhem — Five Months. And Still No Deportation.

Here’s yet another grim story of culture-enriching violence — sexual and otherwise — from Modern Multicultural Sweden.

Many thanks to FouseSquawk for translating this article from the Swedish dissident site Fria Tider:

The rapist smashed his cell: “Smoke now (cigarettes) — otherwise blood!”

A large group of officers were forced to storm the 23-year-old’s cell with shields after he broke the TV and the radio and threatened to kill the staff. The Syrian was released only six months later after being sentenced for attempted rape

July 12, 2018

The 23-year-old man from Syria was convicted recently for attempting to rape a woman at knifepoint after complaining about how she dressed. Just six months later he was released, and now the man has again been convicted of breaking up his cell, assaulting and threatening to kill (officers). Even this time, the 23-year-old will not be deported.

Fria Tider wrote in October about the sentence against the now 23-year-old Ashraf from Syria who back then tried to rape a woman in Skåne Lönsboda.

For a time the Syrian had harassed the woman and, among other things, said that he “rapes boys and children,” stated the victim. At the last moment she was rescued by a janitor, who was able to disarm the man who had managed to get into the woman’s apartment.

According to the janitor, the Arab had earlier complained about how the woman dressed.

In the district court, the 23-year-old was sentenced to a year and four months in prison for a long series of crimes — but escaped deportation. In April of this year he obtained conditional release.

Because of his misconduct during the release he was detained by police on June 5, and when he was detained in prison in Kristianstad he committed the new crimes he has now been convicted of.

On June 7 the cops were alerted that Ashraf’s cell was messy. When they opened the door, the 23-year-old threw a thermos straight at them. He then started throwing other objects at the staff and broke the TV and the radio in the cell.

“Come in here, I will kill everyone!” shouted the Syrian.
