Migrants in Lyon Are a Moveable Feast

The following video report from France concerns an encampment of “minors” in a park in the city of Lyon. Except they aren’t really children — as we’ve come to expect from “unaccompanied minors” in Europe, the puir wee bairns are usually badly in need of a shave.

These particular culture-enrichers have been shunted around from one place to another as various agencies try to dump their problem onto someone else.

Many thanks to HeHa for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes and RAIR Foundation for the subtitling:

Video transcript:

00:00   In this park, tents have multiplied throughout recent weeks.
00:04   A park, with a playground area for children, which is now squatted on by some isolated minors.
00:08   On the day of our recording, there were numerous children in the park.
00:11   Children meet there after walking out of the school, which is right across the street.
00:15   The pupils’ parents are divided over this cohabitation.
00:18   Honestly, it’s not that reassuring to see my child riding his bike in the middle of the encampment,
00:25   neither for the encamped people, nor for my child.
00:28   It’s controversial, of course, but we haven’t seen it coming. We have the feeling
00:33   the encampment gets bigger and bigger every day, and that’s what’s disturbing, apparently.
00:36   — Is it dangerous? —Well, we weren’t thinking about it, we haven’t raised any red flag, actually.
00:40   Because of this considerable change, some school sports classes, which were usually held at
00:44   the site, have been cancelled. —We don’t go to the park any more because of those minors.
00:48   We can’t play soccer with our classmates anymore.
00:53   They set up the tents two months ago, after being expelled
00:56   from an encampment located in front of the headquarters of the Metropolitan Council of Lyon.
01:00   Since their arrival, there has been no complaint about incidents thus far.
01:03   There’s no problem between us and the children.
01:06   If we’re not in the school, we’re in the process of revising [our status]. If we were delinquents,
01:09   nobody would approach us, and we have been here for five months.
01:13   If we had been delinquents, the police would have evicted us a long time ago. On the other side,
01:16   the Metropolitan Council, after investigating, has ensured that
01:19   these young expatriates are not minors. So they don’t have any obligation to take care of them.
01:22   They also affirmed that they have opened 102 new housing accommodations,
01:25   which are all taken already.
