‘A Pleasant Surprise’ — Polish PM Celebrates Lower Than Expected Budget Deficit

Poland has some welcome news after new data shows the country’s budget deficit came in lower than expected.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told a conference on public finances in Warsaw that Poland’s economic perspectives are good because of the stable and sound state of the country’s public finances.

“The result of the deficit was a positive surprise,” said Poland’s prime minister.

Morawiecki noted that budget deficit for 2022 totaled just 12.4 billion zloty (€2.65 billion), and the public sector deficit represented only 3 percent of Polish GDP.

Six Out of Ten Dutch Households Have Trouble Making Ends Meet

A new study of Dutch households showed that roughly 60 percent were either financially unhealthy or financially vulnerable. That figure has grown from about 50 percent in 2021, according to a joint study by Deloitte, Nibud, and Leiden University. Where two-thirds of households were confident they would be able to repay their mortgage on schedule in 2021, only 44 percent still believe that to be the case.

In 2022, about 21 percent were considered to be financially healthy, down from 27 percent. Another 19 percent were considered financially adequate, down from 24 percent. Those considered to be unhealthy or vulnerable reached 30 percent each, with both groups increasing their share from about one-fourth of households in 2021. “Unhealthy” was defined as those who cannot make ends meet, while “vulnerable” indicates those who can make ends meet but cannot use savings to cover unexpected incidents. “Adequate” are those who have a little bit of cash leftover for savings every month with stable and predictable income flows, though occasionally have to make the tough choice to skip boosting savings to stay current with another payment.

“What Tucker Carlson employs here and employed it the entire time he’s been as a grifter TV show host because he knows better than this, by the way — he takes a cut scene and creates a straw man.

DeSantis Shoots Down Media Claims He Supports ‘Blogger Bill’: ‘Not Anything That I’Ve Ever Supported’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis criticized the media for using his image when covering a Florida Senate bill that aimed to force independent bloggers to register with the state, insisting that it is “not anything” he’s “ever supported.”

DeSantis commented on the bill in a press conference Tuesday following his State of the State address. The bill, which was introduced by Florida state Senator Jason Brodeur, originally made headlines on Thursday after it was reported that the bill “would require any blogger writing about government officials to register with the Florida Office of Legislative Services or the Commission on Ethics.”

Although the bill was introduced by a Republican in the state Senate, various mainstream media outlets framed it using DeSantis’ image while suggesting that he supported the measure. DeSantis pointed out that, contrary to the media narrative, he never expressed support for the bill and had no part in drafting it.

Elon Musk Slams Liz Cheney & Adam Schiff for ‘Misleading the Public’ On Jan 6: ‘Deeply Wrong, Legally and Morally’

On Monday night, Carlson’s first report on the Jan. 6 Tapes exposed a number of lies that were promoted to support the false “insurrection” narrative.

After watching a video of cops leading Jacob Chansley, the man with the horns and painted face, around the Capitol, Musk fired back over the false narrative peddled by the Committee, the Democrats, and their allies in the corporate media.

Ken Burns Says Tucker Carlson is ‘Rewriting History’ By Showing Jan 6 Footage

In an interview with CNN This Morning on Tuesday, acclaimed documentarian Ken Burns accused Tucker Carlson of rewriting history, after the Fox News host Tucker Carlson showed footage from the January 6 Capitol riots.

Burns compared Carlson’s use of January 6 footage to propaganda techniques used by the Soviets and Nazis and even went so far as to say that Carlson was “rewriting” history. “These bills that DeSantis and others are doing limit our ability to understand who we are, and are not inclusive. They’re exclusive,” Burns said. “Their narrowing the focus of what is and isn’t American history is terrifying. It feels like a Soviet system. Or, you know, the way the Nazis would build a Potemkin village.”

Secret Service and ICE Conducted Illegal Surveillance Through Fake Cell Towers

A newly-released report by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) revealed that federal agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), used cell-site simulators (CSS) to illegally conduct surveillance.

CSS, aka Stingrays, are devices that mimic cell phone towers, duping mobile devices within a certain radius to connect to them instead of cell towers. Once connected to the CSS, law enforcement can conduct a search of the devices, in violation of basic constitutional freedoms.

CSS can pinpoint the location of a phone more accurately than using phone numbers. They also log the unique identifying numbers called IMSI of all devices in a certain radius.

Whistleblower: FBI’s D.C. Office Tried to Sic Local Agents on Innocents After Bank of America Volunteered Gun Records

An FBI whistleblower told congressional investigators that the D.C. field office pushed local offices to open criminal investigations into Americans based solely on financial transactions Bank of America tracked and voluntarily provided to the bureau, according to testimony reviewed by The Federalist.

“Bank of America, with no directive from the FBI, datamined its customer base,” whistleblower and recently retired FBI supervisory intelligence analyst George Hill told investigators for the House Judiciary Committee, according to Hill’s testimony.

Hill had identified himself last month as one of the whistleblowers cooperating with congressional investigators when speaking with Just the News’ John Solomon about the disclosures he made to the House Judiciary Committee during a transcribed deposition. A review of Hill’s testimony confirms the details the military veteran and former longtime FBI and NSA analyst told Solomon. It also reveals more troubling details.

According to the material reviewed, Hill testified that on either Jan. 7 or 8, 2021, Bank of America provided the FBI’s D.C. field office a “huge list” of individuals who used Bank of America credit or debit cards in D.C., or the surrounding Maryland and Virginia areas, on Jan. 5, 6, or 7, 2021. Bank of America then elevated to the top of the list anyone who had ever (through Jan. 6, 2021) used a Bank of America product to purchase a firearm.

Trudeau Government Plans to Make it Easier to Invoke Emergencies Act, Freeze Bank Accounts

Canada’s highly controversial use of the Emergencies Act during last winter’s anti-Covid restrictions civil protest known as the “Freedom Convoy,” and criticism heaped on the authorities thereafter, does not appear to have persuaded them to act differently in the future.

The whole affair did result in the setting up of a body, the Public Order Emergency Commission (POEC), whose task was to investigate how the Act was used during the trucker-led peaceful protest of February 2022. Another job the commission was given was to advise on (future) policy.

However, POEC Commissioner Justice Paul Rouleau announced recently that the use of the Act was justified, branding the protest an actual national security emergency that required the measures taken to squash it.

UK: After Deflating Thousands of Tyres, Eco-Saboteurs Are Thinking Up New Ways to Tackle SUVs

It’s half past midnight on a Tuesday in February, and I’m in Clifton, Bristol’s most expensive suburb. In a quiet spot without street lights or security cameras, Ford*, Simon*, Holly* and Zack* — four of Bristol’s ‘Tyre Extinguishers’ — are getting ready for an evening of sabotage.

Adjusting their jackets and face coverings, the activists talk briefly about the streets they’ll hit (“let’s stay away from that road — that has lots of CCTV”). They then distribute leaflets and bags of lentils between them, and they’re off.

By now, the group has the process down to a fine art. Keeping chat to a minimum, they roam the streets looking for ‘sports utility vehicles’, or SUVs. When they find one, they check there’s no disability badge on the dashboard, and if not, one person deflates a tyre (“unscrew the valve cap, lentil in, screw it back on, done”) while another puts a leaflet on the windscreen explaining what’s happened and why. The whole process takes less than ten seconds. Then they move on to the next vehicle, a satisfying hissing sound following them down the street.

In just under an hour, the Bristol Tyre Extinguishers disabled around 80 climate-wrecking vehicles. This was more than in any other city that night, an international night of action which saw groups in London, Paris, Milan and elsewhere let down hundreds of tyres to mark one year of pulse-based activism.

But there may be more to come. In Bristol, eco-saboteurs told Novara Media that they need to take their campaign “to the next level” in the coming months, with a “diversity of tactics” that could include spray-painting SUVs to shame owners.

Polish Energy Giant PKN Orlen to Sue Russia for Cutting Oil Supplies

In late February, PKN Orlen announced that Russia stopped supplying oil to Poland, and while the company’s CEO said the oil could be substituted, the company is now suing Russia for breach of contract.

Daniel Obajtek, CEO of PKN Orlen, responded at the time to the cut-off by saying that Russia was supplying only 10 percent of Poland’s oil needs and that these imports could be replaced.

The Russian supplies in question were transmitted through the Druzhba pipeline network linking Siberia to Central Europe. The fact that these supplies have been stopped means Poland is no longer in receipt of any oil from Russia.

During an interview with commercial radio Zet, Obajtek revealed on Monday that Orlen would sue the Russians for cutting the oil flow. He pointed to the fact that the flow was stopped just days after President Joe Biden’s visit to Poland.

Orlen’s CEO also said his company did not break the contract with the Russian supplier to stop importing oil because Poland was still locked into long-term contracts and would face penalties if it broke them.

US Intelligence Now Says Pro-Ukraine, Possibly Government-Trained Mystery Forces Destroyed Nord Stream Pipelines

Last month, Pulitzer prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh concluded that the United States blew up the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream natural gas pipelines last September as part of a covert operation under the guise of the BALTOPS 22 NATO exercise.

Now, four weeks after Hersh’s bombshell report, anonymous US intelligence officials tell the NY Times that the saboteurs are likely ‘pro-Ukraine, possibly government-trained Ukrainian or Russian nationals, or some combination of the two,’ but that ‘no American or British nationals were involved.’

U.S. officials said that they had no evidence President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine or his top lieutenants were involved in the operation, or that the perpetrators were acting at the direction of any Ukrainian government officials…

U.S. officials said there was much they did not know about the perpetrators and their affiliations. The review of newly collected intelligence suggests they were opponents of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, but does not specify the members of the group, or who directed or paid for the operation. U.S. officials declined to disclose the nature of the intelligence, how it was obtained or any details of the strength of the evidence it contains. They have said that there are no firm conclusions about it, leaving open the possibility that the operation might have been conducted off the books by a proxy force with connections to the Ukrainian government or its security services. —NY Times

17 Killed, Over 100 Injured as Explosion Rocks Seven-Storey Building in Bangladesh’s Capital City

Eleven firefighting units, comprising 200 firemen, were mobilised at the spot after the blast

At least 17 people, including two women, were killed and over 100 others injured on Tuesday in a powerful “earthquake-like” explosion at a seven-storey building here in Bangladesh’s capital city, police and local residents said.

Eleven firefighting units, comprising 200 firemen, were mobilised at the spot after the blast, which occurred around 4:50 pm (local time) at Old Dhaka’s crowded Gulistan area, the fire service control room said.

“Sixteen bodies have been found (so far), but the toll could rise as the rescue operation is underway,” a fire service official told reporters.

One person succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, raising the toll to 17.

“Most of the deaths were caused by brain hemorrhage,” Health Minister Zahid Maleque said.

The cause of the explosion could not be known immediately, but local residents suspected chemicals illegally stored inside the building, mostly used as an office and business complex, might have sparked the blast.

Several people have been trapped under the rubble of the building. “We have to cut through the concrete to rescue them. The fire service is working on it,” an official said.

2 Kidnapped Americans Found Dead in Mexico, 2 Others Alive

MEXICO CITY — Two Americans whose abduction in Mexico was captured in a video that showed them caught in a cartel shootout have been found dead, officials said Tuesday. Two others who were kidnapped with them were found alive, with one wounded.

Tamaulipas Gov. Américo Villarreal did not provide details on the extent of the wounded person’s injuries.

The surviving Americans were taken to the border near Brownsville, Texas, in a convoy of Mexican ambulances and SUVs, as seen by an Associated Press journalist Tuesday morning. It was not immediately clear if the bodies of the deceased were also being returned to the U.S.

The vehicles sped down a long dirt road escorted by Mexican military Humvees, armored vehicles, state police and National Guard in trucks with mounted .50-caliber machine guns.

The FBI had said Sunday it was searching with Mexican authorities for the missing U.S. citizens. A relative of one of them said Monday that the group had traveled together from South Carolina so one of them could get a tummy tuck from a doctor in the border city of Matamoros, where Friday’s kidnapping took place.
