FDIC Moves to Force Big Banks to Pay ‘Special Assessment’ After Silicon Valley Bank Collapse

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), staring down nearly $23 billion in outstanding costs following recent bank failures, is deliberating shifting much of that financial burden onto the nation’s largest banks.

Alan Dershowitz Gets Revenge on Michael Cohen, Threatens to Sue Star Witness in Trump Case: “I’m About to Sue Him Now for Defamation”

Alan Dershowitz ripped Alvin Bragg’s indictment of former President Donald Trump and threatened former to hit Michael Cohen with a defamation lawsuit last night on Fox News.

Alan said the New York prosecutor “deliberately violated the statute of limitations” with his Trump indictments and that relying on Michael Cohen as a star witness will backfire. “They’ve made a foolish, foolish decision which will cause the case to be thrown out, I think, on statute of limitations grounds,” he said.

Then Alan put Cohen on notice: “Let me tell you something about Michael Cohen. He’s not through with his problems. He just tweeted about me—saying because I had attacked his credibility that I was involved with underage girls on Epstein’s island—I’m about to sue him now for defamation.

Alec Baldwin Codefendant Gets 6 Months Probation on ‘Rust’ Weapons Charge

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A codefendant in the case against actor Alec Baldwin in the fatal 2021 shooting of a cinematographer on a movie set in New Mexico was convicted Friday of unsafe handling of a firearm and sentenced to six months of probation.

Safety coordinator and assistant director David Halls also must pay a $500 fine and complete a gun-safety course after agreeing to plead guilty to the charge related to the death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western movie “Rust.”

Halls appeared briefly by video to waive his right to challenge the negligence charge, as state District Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer approved terms of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Defense attorney Lisa Torraco urged the court to not impose a prison sentence — the maximum possible penalty was 6 months behind bars — noting that Halls was “extremely traumatized and “rattled” with guilt.

Douglass Mackey Found Guilty of Election Interference in 2016 for Anti-Clinton Memes

A digital provocateur has been found guilty of election interference for disseminating materials that encouraged individuals to vote by text.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York confirmed the verdict on Friday.

“Mackey has been found guilty by a jury of his peers of attempting to deprive individuals from exercising their sacred right to vote for the candidate of their choice in the 2016 Presidential Election,” U.S. Attorney Breon Peace said in a press release. “Today’s verdict proves that the defendant’s fraudulent actions crossed a line into criminality and flatly rejects his cynical attempt to use the constitutional right of free speech as a shield for his scheme to subvert the ballot box and suppress the vote.”

Prosecutors had described a scheme in which Mackey, working with other digital actors, encouraged supporters of then-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to vote by text.

Mackey posted the meme on his Twitter account, which used the name Ricky Vaughn. Included was a picture of a would-be voter waiting in line and blaring the message “Avoid the Line. Vote from Home. Text ‘Hillary’ to 59925[…] Vote for Hillary and be a part of history.”

The Department of Justice estimated at the time that more than 4,900 unique telephone numbers texted Clinton’s first name to the number, which was real.

Factory Explosion Survivor, on Fire, Fell Into Chocolate Vat

(AP) — A woman pulled alive from the rubble of a Pennsylvania chocolate factory after an explosion that killed seven co-workers says her arm caught fire as flames engulfed the building — and then she fell through the floor into a vat of liquid chocolate.

The dark liquid extinguished her blazing arm, but Patricia Borges wound up breaking her collarbone and both of her heels. She would spend the next nine hours screaming for help and waiting for rescue as firefighters battled the inferno and choppers thumped overhead at the R.M. Palmer Co. factory.

“When I began to burn, I thought it was the end for me,” Borges, 50, told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview from her hospital bed in West Reading, Pennsylvania, just minutes from the chocolate factory where she worked as a machine operator. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board planned to interview Borges on Friday.

GOP Sen. Graham Suggests Trump Commit Crimes to Avoid NY Indictment

Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham on Friday suggested that former President Donald Trump commit a litany of petty and violent crimes in order to avoid an indictment, seemingly referencing the District Attorney’s propensity for not pursuing cases against such offenders.

Trump is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday after a grand jury voted to indict him this week. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case stems from a 2016 payment to Stormy Daniels that Trump’s then-personal attorney, Michael Cohen, made. Legal experts have called the case baseless while Republicans have uniformly deemed it a political prosecution.

“How can President Trump avoid prosecution in New York?” Graham asked on Twitter. “On the way to the DA’s office on Tuesday, Trump should smash some windows, rob a few shops and punch a cop. He would be released IMMEDIATELY!”

Soros Distances Himself From Manhattan DA Bragg After Trump Indictment

Liberal billionaire George Soros has distanced himself from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg after former President Donald Trump’s indictment, saying he’s never met Bragg and didn’t donate to his campaign.

“As for Alvin Bragg, as a matter of fact I did not contribute to his campaign and I don’t know him,” Soros told Semafor. “I think some on the right would rather focus on far-fetched conspiracy theories than on the serious charges against the former president.”

Soros’ comments came after President Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called Bragg “Soros-backed,” which has been echoed by many other Republicans. Soros has supported dozens of district attorney candidates across the country in recent years. Last summer, he penned a Wall Street Journal op-ed explaining why he puts his money behind “reform-minded” prosecutors.

While Soros did not donate directly to Bragg’s campaign, in May 2021, he gave $1 million to the Color of Change PAC, which, shortly after receiving the donation, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars backing Bragg’s candidacy.

Toronto Demands Decriminalization of Fentanyl and Meth for Kids

The City of Toronto has released its sweeping plan to decriminalize all hard drugs, including fentanyl and crack cocaine for any age.

Toronto’s request is even more lenient than the decriminalization order granted to the entire province of British Columbia by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earlier this year.

After Poland’s Agricultural Minister Gets Egged by Angry Farmers, Polish PM Warns Ukrainian Grain is Destabilizing Europe’s Agricultural Market

Poland’s grain markets are being destabilized by cheap Ukrainian grain, putting farmers’ livelihoods at risk, and they are growing increasingly furious. In fact, just a few days ago, Polish Agriculture Minister Henryk Kowalczyk had eggs thrown at him at the European Farmers Forum in Jasionka, southern Poland.

The problem is that since the beginning of June 2022, Ukrainian farmers have been free to export grain into the EU without any limits as part of the so-called “solidarity corridors.” That grain was meant to simply pass through Poland on the way to other countries, mainly in the developing world, but this plan has gone awry.

Instead, the majority of the imported grain has remained in Poland, leading to serious problems for Polish producers who are unable to sell their grain as a result.

France: Confidence in Macron Falls to Lowest Level Since Yellow Vest Protests, While Le Pen’s Populists and Far-Left Rise

The French people’s confidence in the leadership of President Emmanuel Macron has fallen to the lowest level since the Yellow Vest protests in 2018, as Marine Le Pen’s populists and far-leftists rise, amid the national crisis surrounding the government’s push to ram through pension reforms without a vote earlier this month.

According to a Kantar Public-Epoka poll conducted on behalf of the Le Figaro newspaper President Macron has seen his confidence rating among the public fall to just 26 per cent, dropping four points in just the last two months. This represents the lowest rating for the globalist leader since he was re-elected last year and the lowest since the Yellow Vest protests of 2018.

‘Morally and Financially Exhausted’ — Slovakia Doesn’t Have Any More Capacity to Aid Ukraine

Support for Ukraine in Slovakia is “morally and financially exhausted,” Slovak President Zuzana Caputova said at a foreign policy conference in Bratislava. She stated that Slovakia’s potential is not unlimited and argued for an increase in defense spending.

Caputova said that the population of the country remains willing to accept Ukrainian refugees. However, a recent Eurostat survey showed that the majority of people believe that their own living standards have decreased with the arrival of refugees, “despite the data clearly pointing to the successful integration of refugees into the labor market.”

The head of state also said that “disinformation and misinterpretation” were being used by some to reduce public support for “the steps taken by the country.”

Poland: Middle Class Becoming Wealthier, Pool of Poorest Taxpayers Shrinks

Poles did not become poorer during the pandemic, according to the latest tax return data from the Ministry of Finance for the years 2018 to 2021.

Additionally, the number of taxpayers with annual incomes over 1 million zloty (€215,000) has increased, while the number declaring earnings below 20,000 zloty (€4,250) has decreased.

The data indicates that the number of the poorest taxpayers is falling, and the pandemic did not ultimately affect incomes despite the business turbulence. The number of such taxpayers decreased from almost 8.5 million in 2018 to about 5.3 million in 2021.

The young politician admitted that he wanted the other liberal and left parties to unite on one opposition slate, as such a coalition would mean that anyone who did not want to vote for the ruling conservative Law and Justice (PiS) or the liberals would have to vote for Confederation. However, he was adamant that Confederation did not want to ally with either the conservatives or the liberals.

Small European Countries “Morally & Financially Exhausted” By Ukraine War Effort

Ukraine’s Western backers have of late expressed more and more skepticism over the future success of the war effort against Russia. This doubt grew louder and more public starting two weeks ago, when Czech President Petr Pavel said in an interview with Polish media that the window is closing on a major new Ukrainian counteroffensive. He then acknowledged that his country may not be able to maintain current levels of assistance to Kiev.

“The window of opportunity is open this year. After next winter, it will be extremely difficult to maintain the current level of assistance,” Pavel was quoted as saying. “War fatigue is not only the exhaustion of human resources and equipment, the destruction of infrastructure in Ukraine, but also fatigue in the countries that provide aid.”

This week another small central European country has echoed the same. Slovak President Zuzana Caputova said at a foreign policy event that Slovakia is “morally and financially exhausted” after more than a year of support given to Ukraine, and as war refugees pour in.

Sweden Did Exceptionally Well During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Authored by Peter Gøtzsche via The Brownstone Institute

No wonder the news media are totally silent about the data that show that Sweden’s open society policy was what the rest of the world should have done, too.

Numerous studies have shown Sweden’s excess death rate to be among the lowest in Europe during the pandemic and in several analyses, Sweden was at the bottom…

This is remarkable considering that Sweden has admitted that it did too little to protect people living in nursing homes.

Unlike the rest of the world, Sweden largely avoided implementing mandatory lockdowns, instead relying on voluntary curbs on social gatherings, and keeping most schools, restaurants, bars and businesses open. Face masks were not mandated and it was very rare to see any Swede dressed as a bank robber.

Caroline Glick: A New Phase in US-Israel Relations

Israel was rocked by the news on Thursday that the U.S. State Department had ordered NASA scientist Dr. Amber Straughn to cancel her participation in the Israel Physical Society’s annual meeting. The news came following Straughn’s posting on Twitter that her “travel authorization was revoked” on Wednesday.

The State Department’s move, which gives the appearance of an official boycott, would be stunning under any circumstance. But it is all the more alarming coming on the heels of U.S. President Joe Biden’s shocking remarks in relation to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government’s efforts to place minimal limits on the Supreme Court’s currently limitless powers.

In apparently off-the-cuff remarks to reporters on Tuesday, Biden said curtly: “Like many strong supporters of Israel I am very concerned, and I’m concerned that they get this [judicial reform] straight. They cannot continue down this road. Hopefully, the prime minister will act in a way that he’s going to try to work out some genuine compromise. But that remains to be seen.”

Then, after interfering in Israel’s domestic affairs, Biden added: “We’re not interfering. They know my position. They know America’s position. They know the American Jewish position.”

When in a follow-up a reporter asked Biden if he would invite Netanyahu to the White House, the president’s response was immediate and unhesitating.

“No, not in the near term.”

Even before the State Department ordered Straughn to cancel her trip, it was abundantly clear that Biden’s statement wasn’t a fluke. And it wasn’t about Netanyahu. Despite the occasional compliments that Biden and his advisers showered on Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett, the administration’s policies were not more pro-Israel when they were in power. Notwithstanding the failure of the administration’s nuclear diplomacy with Iran last year, the Biden administration remained committed to its policy of appeasing Iran and facilitating its nuclear advancement, despite the previous government’s expressed opposition…

Florida House Passes Bill to Limit Use of Preferred Pronouns in Schools

The Florida state House on Friday passed legislation to prevent schools employees from asking for students’ preferred pronouns or sharing their own.

The measure comes as part of a broader expansion of the Parental Rights in Education Act, which restricts discussion of certain sexual topics in schools. At present, the law restricts discussion of those materials from kindergarten third grade, but the state measure would expand that restriction to include pre-kindergarten through grade eight.

The bill further asserts that “a person’s sex is an immutable biological trait and that it is false to ascribe to a person a pronoun that does not correspond to such person’s sex,” according to The Hill. The lower chamber passed the legislation by a 77-35 vote margin, with two Republicans voting against it.

Whose Children? Our Children

by Daniel Greenfield

“We have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents,” MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry argued. “Educators love their students and know better than anyone what they need to learn and to thrive,” the NEA asserted. “Parents claim they have the right to shape their kids’ school curriculum. They don’t,” a Washington Post op-ed bluntly asserted.

A Minnesota bill now proposes to take children away from parents who don’t agree to have them sexually mutilated. Similar bills are working their way through other states.

Behind all the identity politics, the graphic sexual materials in classrooms, the covert gender swaps by public school administrators, critical race theory, drag shows and so much else is a showdown between the family and the state. It’s not a new confrontation, but teenage puberty blockers, suicides, sex and racism manuals have made the stakes painfully clear.

At the heart of sexual identity politics is an obsession with dismantling the family. The embrace of transgenderism by the state is no accident of politics. The family, like race and religion, is the chief rival to the state. The state set out to neuter its rivals through identity politics, using race, religion and finally sexuality to define new identities and use them to make the state supreme…

4 thoughts on “Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/31/2023

  1. GENDER POLITICS as you say has the effect of turning children away from their parents. Bit like the Chinese cultural revolution. Families no longer on the same team working for the good of the group. Break them up so they hate each other and can no longer talk to each other. Like people from different planets.

    • It’s the natural evolution of the destruction of the “nations” – for nations used to be a sort of “extended family” – but we can’t have that in the Brave New World!

Sexuality might be one of the strongest bonds between two persons so – let’s make little girls into prostitutes with 300+ sexual partners by the time they are 30. Let’s give a pass to all the “slut makers”, but let’s destroy the men who make an effort to support a woman – let’s destroy the husbands at the family court.

And then wonder “where have all the good men and women gone?”

      • Prostitute is not really an accurate description of what most young western females have become. Prostitutes at least have the sense to get payment for the usage of what’s between their thighs. “Strong Independent Women” just give it away for nothing while thinking they are exercising their independence over the patriarchy.

As destructive as their behavior is, The Wall will have the last laugh, as they will spend the majority of their miserable lives childless, unloved, and invisible to all except their swarms of cats and sellers of boxed wine.

        • Honestly, I feel sorry for the post wall feminists who let the train run away and they end up bitter old – can’t even call them “grandmas” can we? …Cat ladies – that’s the term.

It’s the ancient question: “Do women have agency?” “Can women be held responsible for their actions?”

As I am getting older, I found out how easy it is for us, older, wiser, richer men to manipulate those poor souls. I could make millions in Marketing or confidence swindler, or marriage swindler – if I wanted to.

But then – the real question is – if it is so easy to fool women (given you have the right skills and resources) – was it not better when the women were 100% subject to their fathers, brothers, and husbands? For men are not so easily swindled. Real men know the name of the game… That one never gets something for nothing, etc.

But – that implies that women don’t have agency, and are not able to navigate this world full of dangerous frauds without proper guidance.

And – the devil sure as hell has abused this female naivity to the fullest.

(I am sure there are women who do have agency – but none of the 15-30 year olds I am afraid, and even after that, majority of the females who build their life around make up and fashion are completely lost, IMHO)

So – as always – it’s the man’s fault – that the men let the women go astray. Maybe the feminazis are right about that after all. 🙂
