Fed Hikes Rates by a Quarter Percentage Point, Indicates Increases Are Near an End

WASHINGTON — The Federal Reserve on Wednesday enacted a quarter percentage point interest rate increase, expressing caution about the recent banking crisis and indicating that hikes are nearing an end.

Along with its ninth hike since March 2022, the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee noted that future increases are not assured and will depend largely on incoming data.

“The Committee will closely monitor incoming information and assess the implications for monetary policy,” the FOMC’s post-meeting statement said. “The Committee anticipates that some additional policy firming may be appropriate in order to attain a stance of monetary policy that is sufficiently restrictive to return inflation to 2 percent over time.”

That wording is a departure from previous statements which indicated “ongoing increases” would be appropriate to bring down inflation.

UK’s Unexpected Inflation Spike Raises Concerns Ahead of Bank of England’s Interest Rate Announcement

The U.K. economy suffered a setback on Wednesday with the announcement that inflation has risen to 10.4 percent, undoing the gradual month-by-month decreases the country had experienced since last October’s 41-year high.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) was up by 0.3 percentage points over January, with the Office for National Statistics attributing the climb to “price rises in the restaurants and hotels, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and clothing and footwear divisions.”

Prices have risen in British restaurants and cafes by 11.4 percent year-over-year for February, up from 9.4 percent in January, with the main price increases being in alcohol.

Major American media outlets that receive funding from TikTok have emphasized the app’s popularity and expressed skepticism about the app posing a potential national security risk in their coverage of efforts to ban TikTok, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation found.

TikTok bought ads in The New York Times and Washington Post, including a four-page NYT ad with a QR code linking readers to a website boasting of the company’s security investments, and sponsored a popular Axios newsletter, according to Ad Age. The purchases were part of a PR blitz from TikTok ahead of a Thursday congressional hearing as the U.S. considers banning the app.

Exclusive: ‘Rotten to the Core’ — Matt Gaetz, House Republicans to Introduce Legislation Rejecting New FBI Headquarters

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz and five other Republicans will introduce legislation Tuesday that calls for the House to halt all spending allocated towards the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) new headquarters outside the District of Columbia.

The Daily Caller first obtained the legislation, which is titled “The FBI Washington Field Office House Arrest Act.” In December 2022’s Omnibus package, when Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the House, Congress voted to allocate $375 Million for a new FBI headquarters. Gaetz and the GOP lawmakers do not believe it should be built.

There are reportedly three options for where the new FBI headquarters would be built: two in Maryland, and one in Virginia.

Exclusive: Sen. Ted Cruz to Introduce Constitutional Amendment to Lock Supreme Court at Nine Justices

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz will reintroduce a constitutional amendment Wednesday to ensure only nine justices can serve on the U.S. Supreme Court at a time.

The Daily Caller first obtained the resolution which would go to the states for ratification once it is approved by Congress. Cruz originally introduced the amendment in 2021. Senate Democrats have mostly stayed quiet about whether or not they are in favor of packing the court or adding more seats to the Supreme Court, something Senate Republicans say will happen if Democrats take full control.

“The Democrats’ answer to a Supreme Court that is dedicated to upholding the rule of law and the Constitution is to pack it with liberals who will rule the way they want. The Supreme Court should be independent, not inflated by every new administration. That’s why I’ve introduced a constitutional amendment to permanently keep the number of justices at nine,” Cruz said in a statement to the Caller before introducing the resolution.

Rand Paul: “People Saying COVID Didn’t Come From a Lab Are Self-Interested”

Appearing on Fox News Tuesday, Senator Rand Paul spoke about how Democrats are acting uncooperatively in the Senate investigation into the origins of COVID, and noted that anyone who still denies the lab leak theory is acting purely in self interest.

“The people of America should realize that the people saying it didn’t come from a lab are self-interested,” Paul asserted, adding that “Tony Fauci approved and gave the money to the lab in Wuhan. So by proving that, he has and shares some culpability in the origins of this virus.”

“He’s always going to deny that it came from the lab, because it comes back to his reputation for having the incredibly poor judgment to send this money to Wuhan,” Paul continued.

“The machinery of government over there is biased, and they’re never going to admit to this. But if you talk to the real scientists — and there’s dozens and dozens of eminent virologists now who have come to the conclusion this came from the lab,” the Senator further noted.

Two School Administrators Shot by Student at Denver High School

A male student shot two school administrators at a high school in Denver on Wednesday, and the victims were taken to area hospitals, officials said. Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said the student fled the scene after the shooting at East High School.

One victim was in critical condition and one was in serious but stable condition, Thomas said.

Both of the victims are men, Thomas said. The two administrators were searching the student in the morning and “a handgun was retrieved and several shots were fired,” the chief said. The student was not identified because he is a juvenile, the chief said, but authorities know who he is.

“We don’t have any sense of where he is,” the chief said, adding that investigators were trying to speak with people who may know where he may have gone.

Police haven’t recovered the gun used in the shooting, Thomas said. Authorities were searching his home for evidence.

Dutch Government Bans Officials From Installing TikTok on Work Phone

The Netherlands will soon ban government officials from installing TikTok on their government phones. Government services will immediately start discouraging officials from having the app on their phone, and soon all work phones will be set up to only allow the installation of pre-approved apps, State Secretary Alexandra van Huffelen said in a letter to parliament.

The list of pre-approved apps does not include “espionage-sensitive apps.” A spokesperson for Van Huffelen confirmed to NOS that TikTok falls under that heading. There are 140,000 government officials and civil servants in the Netherlands. The spokesperson couldn’t say how many of them use a government phone.

Many Western countries are concerned about TikTok because the popular social media app is owned by the Chines company Bytedance. They worry that the company will share TikTok data with the Chinese government. Intelligence service AIVD also recently advised the government that apps “managed by countries with an offensive cyber program aimed at the Netherlands and Dutch interests” have an increased espionage risk.

EU Already Caving on 2035 Combustion Engine Ban, Considering Allowing E-Fuel Vehicles

It appears the EU could already be giving up ground on its proposed internal combustion engine ban, set to be put into place in 2035.

On Tuesday morning it was reported that the EU has now “drafted a plan allowing sales of new cars with internal combustion engines that run only on climate neutral e-fuels”, according to Reuters. The plan comes as part of a compromise proposal with Germany over the existing 2035 ban plans.

Under the plan, cars that run on carbon neutral fuels would be placed into a new type of vehicle category.

E-fuels are synthetically made fuels that can be made using hydrogen in conjunction with captured carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide. The source for the components of the fuels generally has to be sustainable in nature, such as wind or solar power.

Netherlands: Two Face Prosecution for Inciting Violence Against Teacher Over Anti-Jihad Cartoon

Two people will face a criminal court hearing on accusations that they tried to get others to commit acts of violence against a secondary school teacher for his use of a cartoon in support of the controversial French satire magazine, Charlie Hebdo. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) . The two Rotterdammers, now aged 20 and 22, will be prosecuted on suspicion of inciting violence or criminal acts when the incident happened more than two years ago.

The teacher at the Emmauscollege had placed a copy of a Joep Bertram cartoon on a bulletin board at the secondary school in November 2020. The image was of a decapitated person wearing a Charlie Hebdo shirt who was sticking their tongue out at a jihadist. Bertram created the cartoon in response to the terrorist assault on the Charlie Hebdo editorial office in Paris that left 12 dead and 11 injured.

On November 2, the school took part in a memorial for French teacher Samuel Paty who was brutally killed in a beheading in a suburb of Paris a few weeks earlier. The teacher used the occasion to hang a copy of Bertram’s cartoon on a bulletin board. The cartoon angered a group of Muslim girls, according to NRC, who demanded it be removed, saying the teacher was guilty of blasphemy. They disagreed with the teacher, who said that the cartoon showed a jihadist holding a machete, and not the Prophet Muhammad.

[Comment: The article reprints the interesting (to me at least) cartoon.]

China Hires the ‘Resistance’

by Daniel Greenfield

Whenever SKDK sends out a press release, it makes sure to mention that Politico had once called it “the loyal opposition where powerful Democrats plot the anti-Trump agenda” and that the Holmes Report had described the firm “the hub of the resistance.”

The “loyal opposition” now works for Communist China. And the “hub of the resistance” is being employed on behalf of a company operating out of one of the world’s most totalitarian regimes.

Faced with a possible ban on its destructive social media app, TikTok has gone out and hired the Biden administration and its “resistance” apparatus. And it probably even got a good deal.

SKDK’s managing director, Anita Dunn, is Biden’s senior advisor and unofficial campaign manager who took control and steered him through the Democrat primaries.Dunn, an Obama vet, is now in charge of crafting the response to Biden’s classified documents scandal.

SKDK people became Biden’s campaign comms and they’ve continued to fill that role in the administration. White House Deputy Communications Director, Herbie Ziskend. was an SKDK veep. As was Biden’s deputy communications director Kate Berner. Biden’s special assistant and senior adviser Jordan Finkelstein was an SKDK associate. Biden’s former press secretary and current Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh was a senior SKDK associate.

TikTok had previously hired a Pelosi senior adviser and another senior adviser to Rep. James Clyburn: the third highest ranking Democrat. Now it decided to go all the way to the ‘big guy’.

Biden’s messaging apparatus consists of SKDK vets. Hire SKDK and you get insights into what the Biden administration thinks and how to best influence its thinking…

Mexico’s Leftist President Humiliates Biden, Sides With Trump: ‘Why Not Allow the People to Decide’

Mexico’s leftist President Andre’s Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) has publicly humiliated Democrat President Joe Biden.

During a press conference, AMLO decried Biden over the Democrats’ efforts to indict President Donald Trump.

He said Biden can no longer lecture other countries about democracy if Trump is arrested.

“Right now, former President Trump is declaring that they are going to arrest him,” the Mexican leader said.

“If that were the case, it would be so that his name doesn’t appear on the ballot.

“I say this because I too have suffered from the fabrication of a crime when they didn’t want me to run.

“And this is completely anti-democratic.

“Why not allow the people to decide?”

He also called out Biden specifically, saying the United States cannot talk about human rights with Julian Assange detained, cartel violence with Biden bombing the Nord Stream pipeline, or democracy while arresting the leading presidential candidate Donald Trump.

1,500 Migrants Smuggled Into Germany Every Week and it’s Going to Get Worse, Warns Top Police Union Chief

More than 1,500 migrants are being trafficked into Germany every week by people smugglers, a figure that is expected to rise considerably as warmer temperatures arrive, the chairman of Germany’s largest police union has warned.

Andreas Roßkopf of the GDP police union revealed the concerning figures to German newspaper Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung, claiming that professional gangs are taking advantage of Europe’s porous borders and raking in the profits. “These are full professionals who advertise with a guarantee of success,” he said.

“We are currently detecting around 1,500 illegal entries per week at the borders. It will certainly not stop there. With every month that gets warmer, more people come,” he told the newspaper’s editorial team.

Canada: Constitutional Law Group Vows to Contest Calgary Law Banning Protests Against Drag Queen Story Time

CALGARY, Alberta (LifeSiteNews) — A top Canadian civil liberties group says it is “deeply troubled” by what it says is a new “unconstitutional” bylaw passed by Calgary City Council banning protesting against drag queen story times or other LGBTQ events at public facilities and is now reading a court challenge to fight it.

In a press release Wednesday, the Canadian Constitution Foundation (CCF) said that Calgary’s new “Safe and Inclusive Access Bylaw,” which would disallow “specified protests” both inside and outside all city-owned and affiliated public buildings, is flawed and breaches charter rights.

The CCF said the bylaw was put in place for the explicit purpose to ban protesting against drag queen story times.

DeSantis Admin Proposes Extending Key Provision of Parental Rights Bill Through 12th Grade

The Florida Board of Education proposed a rule Wednesday to expand the state’s parental rights law to cover grades four through 12.

DeSantis signed the Parental Rights in Education Act bill on March 28, 2022, prohibiting classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade and mandating that discussions of those topics in later grades be “age-appropriate.” The legislation further requires that educators inform parents of any changes to a student’s physical, mental or emotional health, including a stated desire to socially transition.

The new proposal suggests expanding this ban on classroom instruction on gender and sexuality to the remaining grade levels unless those discussions are part of a state-approved curriculum or a “reproductive health course or health lesson” that parents can opt their children out of.

Poland: Tusk: I’ll Pressure the Media to Broadcast Pro-Abortion Film

Donald Tusk, the leader of the largest opposition party in Poland, has told a public meeting in the southern town of Pszczyna that he would put pressure on the country’s commercial TV networks to show a pro-abortion film that was made in protest of the constitutional court’s ruling making eugenic abortions illegal.

Tusk was asked whether he had actually seen the film. He claimed that not only had he seen it he had been involved in its production, although he did not explain the nature of his involvement. The former liberal prime minister offered to help get the film shown on Poland’s commercial television networks Polsat and TVN.

The film, “No One Should Know,” was financed through Norway grants in Poland and by funding sources in Iceland and Liechtenstein. The film is a documentary showing the views of doctors, midwives and psychiatrists and presents real-life stories of women and their families. It was made from a clear pro-choice point of view.

We are now just one strike away from YouTube permanently deleting the channel, leaving LifeSite with a diminished presence on the giant Big Tech platform.

  1. Ron DeSantis “threat … to America’s ability to lead across the world” — I think if this hubris doesn’t change, it will one day become America’s downfall. Ever larger parts of the world are going to gang up on it, it’s already started. There are specific issues, like China’s threat of initiating aggression against Taiwan to enforce a reunion, Islam’s own claims to lead across the world (if the West would finally decide to even perceive it), and certainly a couple more, which call for a strong response from the US. But with such a generic pretension to “lead the world”, history is not going down well. As a Germany saying goes, the pitcher goes to the well until the moment it breaks.

    • I call it “Ram It All In” so i can be disrespectful toward the most evil culture on planet earth.
