Viktor Orbán: “That is Their War, Not Ours”

The following video features excerpts from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s recent annual “state of the nation” speech.

Many thanks to László for adjusting and timing the official translation, and to Vlad Tepes and RAIR Foundation for the subtitling.

The translator includes this context for Mr. Orbán’s remarks just before the end of his speech:

This is Prime Minister Orbán’s reaction to a recent huge national scandal that broke out after a 40-year-old homosexual paedophile assistant schoolteacher performed a public pedo “coming out” in videos, smugly claiming that he could not be punished because his young male “partners” (some of them probably his students) were over 14 and thus were legal targets for him, and therefore he is not even a paedophile but an “ephebophile”. And he threatened everyone in Hungary that he was being protected by Soros’ NGOs, which are defending him free of charge in any legal battle, and therefore anyone who dared to disparage or challenge him would lose a fortune in the lawfare that he would wage.

Video transcript:

02:18   Ladies and gentlemen,
02:21   so much has happened in the past year
02:25   — an election, the war, an energy crisis, inflation
02:29   — that in fact I should spend several hours talking about it.
02:35   Please do not start making for the door: it’s too late now, if you are here, you are here.
02:41   Tomorrow, on Sunday, you can rest yourselves
02:46   even after a speech of Atatürk or Fidel Castro proportions.
02:51   But I will keep it shorter after all,
02:54   because during a long political speech people lose their zest for life —
03:00   and we are not here to lose our zest for life,
03:03   but to renew our zest for life.
03:08   And with that I have dived headlong into what I have to say.
03:13   Today the most important question for the future is
03:17   whether the enormous changes taking place in European life —
03:22   which are bringing us new intellectual, political
03:26   economic and military challenges —
03:30   will diminish or enhance Hungarians’ zest for life.
03:36   These changes are putting pressure on the whole of Hungarian life
03:40   and are confronting us with new questions.
03:44   The success of the year 2023 will depend on
03:48   whether we are energized by them or deflated by them.
08:51   Election victories are not something that people just hand you on a plate —
08:56   especially not two-thirds majorities.
09:00   There is work behind them, and the result of that work is appreciated by the people.
09:05   Otherwise there will be no victory — and certainly no two-thirds majority.
09:11   Of course, there are always malcontents
09:15   who think that we were just lucky.
09:18   Fine, call it luck — once.
09:22   But four times? If you are always lucky, maybe you have something to offer.
09:28   For example, you love your country.
09:31   And you are prepared to fight for her — at home or abroad, if need be.
09:36   The Left should understand
09:39   that for victory millions of dollars and influential patrons are not enough.
09:45   For victory, dear friends, you need heart. Luck is not enough.
12:09   When the West entered the war with sanctions,
12:14   we had to rethink everything.
12:17   That occupied the months following the April election.
12:22   We had to rethink economic policy,
12:26   defence policy, military policy, and all of our foreign policy.
12:31   In the glare of war,
12:34   we had to re-examine all the major goals
12:38   we had set ourselves in 2010, after our first two-thirds victory.
12:45   We are nearing the end of this work.
12:49   As I see it, there is no need to abandon or give up the goals;
12:54   we only need to change the means.
12:59   Our foreign policy remains:
13:02   We want to continue to make friends, not enemies.
13:06   we want everyone — East and West, North and South —
13:11   to have a stake in the success of the Hungarians.
13:14   The creation of connections instead of the formation of blocs.
13:18   National unification will continue,
13:22   and Hungarians beyond our borders can continue to count on us,
13:25   because we are of the same blood.
13:28   Our family policy will remain, our work-based economy will remain,
13:33   our agreement with pensioners and the thirteenth month’s pension will remain,
13:38   And the protective reductions of household utility bills remains, too.
13:42   We will continue the linking of universities to the economy.
13:46   The strategic sectors that have been taken in Hungarian hands —
13:50   the banking sector, the energy sector and the media industry —
13:53   we can keep in Hungarian hands,
13:56   And the telecommunications and info-communications sector
14:01   will be taken back into Hungarian ownership. And we will not stop there;
14:05   the windsock is already blowing in the wind.
14:15   And the promise made to the provinces remains:
14:18   we are launching unprecedented developments
14:22   and providing more resources than the Hungarian provinces have ever seen
14:27   — even under the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
14:32   Alongside agricultural production, we are building up agricultural processing.
14:36   We will revive the Hungarian food industry, which has been devastated by privatisation,
14:42   and we will have national champions in the food industry
14:46   who will also be able to compete in the world market.
14:50   We shall not tolerate Hungarians having to buy food that is dumped on us from abroad.
14:57   And we are retaining our plan for the eastern
15:01   part of our country to catch up with the rest.
15:05   Both economically and in terms of living standards,
15:10   it is time to finally unite Hunnia and Pannonia.
15:15   This is why we are building bridges on the Danube,
15:18   why the one at Paks will be completed, and why the one at Mohács will soon be started.
15:24   Alongside the Gyor-Szombathely-Veszprém industrial zone
15:28   we are placing the Debrecen-Nyíregyháza-Miskolc triangle.
15:33   This will require energy, a lot of energy —
15:37   more than ever before in Hungary.
15:42   This is why we will build power stations and pipeline systems,
15:46   even if Brussels is unwilling to take part in that.
15:51   There will be others, then.
15:54   And we will not give up our most daring plan:
15:58   to ensure that families with children are better off financially than those
16:02   who do not have children. So, war or no war,
16:06   we will have new family support decisions every year.
16:11   Like this year: women committing to having children
16:15   will pay no personal income tax until the age of 30.
16:19   That’s how it will be. But I know that for us Hungarians that’s not enough.
16:25   We know the joke we inherited from socialism:
16:29   “We know what will happen, but the question is this: what will happen until then?”
16:34   Dear friends, If 2022 was the hardest year, 2023 will be the most dangerous year,
16:42   since change of the political system [1989].
16:47   Alongside migration that is becoming permanent,
16:50   two new enemies, two new dangers are lurking:
16:54   One is war, and the other is inflation.
17:00   If we want to return to the upward trajectory
17:03   from which the COVID pandemic pushed us,
17:07   we must fend off these two threats: we must overcome them, we must fight our way through them.
17:15   But how? Today this is what I will talk about.
17:21   How do we overcome the danger of war?
17:24   We would like to simply put an end to it,
17:29   but we do not have the power to do so —
17:33   we are not in that league.
17:36   Therefore, if we want to protect Hungary,
17:39   if we want a peaceful life for ourselves, we have only one choice:
17:44   we must stay out of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
17:50   So far this has not been easy,
17:53   and it will not be easy in the future,
17:56   because we are part of the Western world; we are members of NATO and the European Union,
18:01   and everyone there is on the side of war
18:07   — or at least acts as if they are.
18:11   Can Hungary afford, in such circumstances,
18:17   in a way that is directly opposed to that of our allies,
18:21   to remain on the side of peace?
18:24   Of course we can,
18:27   because Hungary is an independent, free and sovereign state,
18:32   and we recognise no one but God above us.
18:37   But is it right — morally right —
18:42   for us to stay out of the war?
18:45   I am convinced that it is the right thing — and indeed the only right thing.
18:50   Russia has attacked Ukraine,
18:55   so we must let Ukrainian refugees into our country,
18:58   and we have done well in supporting them with the largest
19:02   humanitarian aid operation in our country’s history.
19:07   This is the imperative of basic humanity, and we are complying with it.
19:12   But we also see that the war in Ukraine…
19:21   …is not a war between the armies of good and evil, but a war between the troops
19:24   of two Slavic countries: a war limited in time and — for the time being — in space.
19:30   That is their war, not ours.
19:35   Hungary recognises Ukraine’s right to self defence,
19:39   to fight against external aggression.
19:44   But it would not be right from any point of view — including any moral point of view —
19:49   to put the interests of Ukraine before those of Hungary.
19:54   The Left in Hungary is also on the side of war:
19:59   it would supply arms, take on the financial burden of war
20:04   and sever relations with Russia.
20:08   We are not doing this.
20:11   We are not supplying arms.
20:14   We are also being careful with money,
20:17   because in the end the money due to us
20:20   will be given by Brussels to Ukraine.
20:25   For us, humanitarian support for Ukraine
20:28   does not mean severing our ties with Russia,
20:32   because that would run counter to our national interests,
20:36   which we have the right to define for ourselves.
20:39   Therefore we shall not agree to gas, oil or nuclear sanctions
20:46   that would ruin Hungary.
20:49   From the national consultation we know
20:52   that there is national unity on this.
20:55   Therefore we are maintaining our economic relations with Russia
21:00   and indeed we are advising the whole Western world to do the same,
21:04   because without relations there will be neither a ceasefire nor peace negotiations.
21:09   This is why we do not agree with priests and church leaders
21:15   being placed on sanctions lists;
21:18   it is bad enough that this could happen to artists and athletes.
21:24   And it is also important not to narrow our vision,
21:29   and not to be provincial. Let us look beyond Brussels.
21:34   Every country outside of Europe is aware
21:39   of the limited significance of the war in Ukraine
21:43   and the primacy of its own national interest.
21:47   Let us not isolate ourselves
21:50   from the level-headed part of the world.
21:53   The Hungarian viewpoint is an exception only in Europe
21:58   Across the world it is the norm.
22:01   The Hungarian government does not consider it realistic to assume
22:05   that Russia is a threat to the security of Hungary or of Europe.
22:10   Such an assumption is valid at most in relation to nuclear weapons;
22:14   but the war in Ukraine is increasing the risk of their use, rather than reducing it.
22:21   As far as conventional warfare is concerned,
22:25   the Ukraine war has shown
22:28   that Russia would not stand a chance against NATO.
22:33   We understand that the Ukrainians are trying to convince Europe
22:39   that the Russians will not stop until they reach the Atlantic,
22:44   but the Hungarians are not buying that threat.
22:47   The whole world has seen
22:50   that Russian forces are not in a position, and will not be for a long time,
22:55   to attack NATO.
22:58   I recall that a decade ago Hungary
23:03   proposed the creation of a joint European force,
23:07   and today we can see how unfortunate it is
23:10   that this proposal fell on deaf ears.
23:14   Dear friends,
23:17   While our pro-peace position and the pro-war position of others
23:22   accentuate differences between us,
23:25   they also obscure the fact
23:28   that we are in full agreement on strategic objectives.
23:33   We want Russia not to be a threat to Europe,
23:40   and between Russia and Hungary
23:43   we want there to be a sufficiently broad and deep area,
23:47   a sovereign Ukraine.
23:50   The difference is in the means.
23:53   Those who support the war think that this can be achieved by defeating Russia;
23:58   and we think that it can be achieved by an immediate ceasefire and negotiations.
24:02   There is another strong argument in favour of our proposal:
24:07   the only thing that can save lives is a ceasefire.
24:12   Loss of life is already being expressed in the hundreds of thousands.
24:17   The pain, widowhood, growing numbers of orphans
24:23   and oceanic waves of suffering
24:26   can only be calmed by a ceasefire.
24:29   Ladies and gentlemen, The war has also revealed some instructive
24:36   and weighty truths.
24:39   Let us not pass them by without speaking of them.
24:43   First of all, there is the question of our membership of NATO.
24:47   Let us make it clear that for Hungary NATO membership is vital.
24:54   We are too far to the east —
24:58   on the eastern edge of the western world —
25:01   to renounce it.
25:04   It would of course be easier deeper in the continent:
25:07   following the example of Austria and Switzerland,
25:10   we too could play with the idea of neutrality.
25:14   But history has not given us that luxury.
25:18   NATO is a defensive alliance.
25:22   It is a military defence alliance
25:25   which was formed so that we can defend one another.
25:28   That’s why we joined,
25:31   and that’s why I experienced the historic satisfaction
25:34   when, after 45 years of Soviet occupation,
25:38   I could sign the Treaty of Accession.
25:43   It is at least as important to clearly understand
25:46   what NATO is not. NATO is not a war alliance.
25:52   NATO is not a war coalition.
25:55   Membership of NATO, beyond joint defence,
25:59   does not imply any obligation.
26:02   nor can member countries expect any other member
26:06   that in some joint military objective
26:09   they jointly attack a third country.
26:13   If some NATO members,
26:16   or a group of them,
26:19   outside the territory of the member countries, want to carry out acts of war
26:24   they must do so outside the framework of NATO.
26:28   Those who want to will participate; those who do not, will not.
26:33   Dear friends, No matter how strong and powerful,
26:38   anyone who believes they can control,
26:44   manage and gradually dispense with war,
26:48   is overestimating their own power,
26:52   and underestimating the risky nature of war.
26:56   Those who make such mistakes
26:59   usually live far away
27:02   from the devastating realities of frontline warfare.
27:05   But we live here, and the war
27:09   is on the soil of a neighbouring country.
27:12   No Brusselites have sacrificed their lives in this war,
27:16   but Hungarians have.
27:19   While Hungarian symbols are being taken down in Munkács [in Ukraine],
27:23   Hungarian principals are being dismissed from our schools,
27:27   many are dying heroes’ deaths at the front.
27:31   The Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia does not deserve this.
27:35   More respect for the Hungarians in Munkács, Kiev, Brussels and Washington!
27:59   Ladies and gentlemen, Europe is drifting towards war.
28:07   It is balancing on a narrow plank.
28:11   Indeed its countries are already indirectly at war with Russia.
28:16   If you supply weapons,
28:19   if you provide the satellite information for military action,
28:24   if you train the soldiers of one of the belligerents,
28:28   if you finance the entire state apparatus of one of the belligerents
28:33   and impose sanctions on the other,
28:37   then, no matter what you say, you are at war — indirectly for the time being.
28:44   The risk of being drawn in is now chronic.
28:49   It started with helmets,
28:53   it continued with the delivery of non-lethal equipment;
28:58   we are now seeing tanks being sent,
29:02   fighter planes are on the agenda,
29:05   and soon we will hear about
29:08   so-called “peacekeeping troops”.
29:12   …Like sleepwalkers on a roof.
29:15   We should understand
29:19   how the pro-war people succumbed
29:23   to somnambulism and how they ended up on the rooftops.
29:27   Our Polish and Baltic friends
29:31   we can understand, despite all our differences of opinion.
29:36   Their history explains a great deal.
29:40   But the others?
29:43   It shouldn’t have happened like this.
29:47   Or rather, it could have happened differently.
29:51   We could have given a guarantee
29:54   that we would not admit Ukraine to NATO;
29:57   but we did the opposite and confirmed our earlier decision of 2008
30:02   that we would admit them.
30:06   We could also have followed the solution
30:09   that we adopted in 2008
30:12   when the Russo-Georgian war broke out,
30:16   and Russia occupied 20 per cent of Georgia’s territory.
30:21   Back then we decided
30:24   to prevent the fire spreading
30:27   and under the leadership of President Sarkozy — who negotiated brilliantly —
30:31   the conflict was localised and a ceasefire was achieved.
30:36   We could have done
30:39   what we did in 2014 under Angela Merkel
30:43   when Russia attacked Ukraine and annexed Crimea.
30:49   Then we could have opted for war,
30:53   like the present one, but we — the West — chose a different option:
30:59   negotiation instead of combat, peace instead of war.
31:03   I remember that there were pro-war people then,
31:07   but there was also strong German and French leadership,
31:11   which was brave and took timely action.
31:14   That is how war was avoided and the Minsk agreement was reached.
31:19   A year ago the West decided otherwise.
31:23   When Russia launched an attack,
31:26   the West did not isolate the conflict
31:30   but elevated it to a pan-European level.
31:33   It could have classified it as a local, regional war
31:37   or as a military conflict between two Slavic states,
31:41   as Hungary proposed.
31:44   What happened is yet another argument against the Brussels superstate
31:51   and in favour of strong nation states.
31:54   When the member states decided, there was peace;
31:57   when the imperial centre decided, there was war.
32:01   Ladies and gentlemen, looking to the future, it is also instructive to note
32:07   how we lost our pro-peace allies.
32:12   A year ago we were not alone in the peace camp.
32:17   There were, for example, the Germans,
32:20   who supplied no weapons, only helmets.
32:24   By comparison, in a few weeks’ time
32:28   Leopard tanks will be rolling eastwards across Ukrainian land,
32:32   down towards the Russian border.
32:35   Perhaps even the old maps are still available.
32:39   The Germans turned together with the others,
32:43   or the others turned together with the Germans.
32:46   That is how the peace camp faded away.
32:49   It is hard to believe that the Germans took this turn of their own accord.
32:54   Today they act as if they were always on board.
32:58   The modern German school: they do not simply change sides,
33:03   but openly announce
33:06   that they are jumping right to the front.
33:09   They are thorough people, and when they do something, they do it seriously.
33:14   And the other countries thought
33:17   that if the Germans could not resist that kind of external pressure
33:21   then they, too, would be unlikely to.
33:24   And so they seeped from the peace camp into the war camp.
33:29   That left two of us: Hungary and the Vatican.
33:34   We cannot complain about the company,
33:37   but we need to address some serious consequences.
33:49   We need to honestly face the fact
33:52   that the war is getting wilder and more brutal,
33:57   and so we had better be prepared for the tone used against us to get harsher and more abusive:
34:04   provocations, insults, threats and blackmail.
34:10   I cannot promise that it will be easy,
34:14   but I can promise that we shall stand our ground.
34:23   Long gone are the days when we were subject
34:27   to diplomatic pressure which still respected sovereignty.
34:31   Where are the good old days,
34:35   when in 2014 Hillary Clinton sent just one “good friend” [André Goodfriend]
34:42   using anti-government protests and a few travel bans
34:47   to persuade the Hungarians of the error of their ways.
34:50   We manoeuvred well then;
34:53   our calculations worked, and in the form of Donald Trump
34:57   friendly relief troops arrived —
35:00   fortunately not here, but in Washington.
35:03   Since then a lot of water has flowed down the Potomac.
35:06   Fortunately the White House has retained its sense of humour,
35:12   and instead of a “good friend”, President Biden
35:15   has sent us a “press man”, [David Pressman] — an ambassador
35:19   to press the Hungarians into the camp of war, whatever it takes,
35:24   to press a statement out of us in which we commit ourselves to joining in.
35:29   This is fine, humour can help friendship survive hard times.
35:34   But we should avoid the possibility
35:37   that next time they send someone called Puccini! [putsch-ini]
35:45   Ladies and gentlemen, we calculate
35:48   that in 2024 America will have another election,
35:53   and our Republican friends are flexing their muscles in preparation for their return.
35:58   I also expect that democracy will show its strength in Europe,
36:04   that public opinion will become increasingly pro-peace,
36:08   demanding a ceasefire, peace talks, more sanity,
36:13   and, if necessary, they will elect new governments.
36:17   It will not be a walk in the park,
36:20   but then the smoother and more leisurely roads all lead to war.
36:26   Ladies and gentlemen, We have no illusions, we are not naive,
36:32   neither are we the flower children of ‘68,
36:36   nor dreaming pacifists.
36:39   We know that the negotiations will not be between the Ukrainians and the Russians.
36:44   Peace will come
36:47   when the Americans and the Russians negotiate with each other.
36:51   That will inevitably happen,
36:55   but the later it happens, the higher the price we will all pay.
37:00   War enthusiasts believe that time is on the side of the Ukrainians and the West,
37:06   so the fight must go on:
37:09   that it will change the balance of power, there will be victory over Russia,
37:13   and victory will bring peace.
37:16   But the Hungarian government, believes that continued fighting will not bring victory
37:20   and will not bring peace, but the deaths of hundreds of thousands more people,
37:26   a widening conflict, countries engaged in open warfare,
37:30   years of war, destruction, suffering,
37:34   and the threat of a world war.
37:37   So let us Hungarians stand by peace,
37:40   but let the Defence Minister keep his powder dry.
37:45   That is all I have to say about the war.
37:48   Ladies and gentlemen,
37:51   If we want to fight inflation,
37:55   we must start with understanding it.
37:58   Why is there inflation all over Europe?
38:01   Brussels has unleashed this affliction
38:04   on us, with its sanctions on energy.
38:07   The disease is called sanctions inflation.
38:11   And the virus is the Brussels sanctions.
38:14   Sanctions are the weapons in Brussels’ war policy.
38:18   They target Russia, but they hit Europe.
38:24   It was not so long ago that Brussels promised
38:28   that these sanctions would bring an end to the war.
38:32   A year has passed,
38:35   and the end of the war is not getting closer, but ever more distant.
38:39   They also promised
38:42   that they would not extend the sanctions to energy. But then they did.
38:46   The price of natural gas multiplied,
38:50   reaching 350 euros at the end of August.
38:54   That is a record, something not seen in living memory.
38:58   The situation has improved,
39:02   but the price of natural gas is still several times
39:05   higher than the 20-euro level of two years ago.
39:08   Moreover, and few people know this,
39:11   in Brussels the price of gas was linked to the price of electricity.
39:16   Together with the Poles we protested, but to no avail.
39:20   The rise in gas prices has therefore been immediately
39:23   accompanied by a rise in electricity prices —
39:26   even when that electricity is not produced by gas
39:31   turbines, but by solar, wind, hydro, coal or nuclear power.
39:37   It is economics 101
39:40   that energy price hikes drive up the price of all products.
39:45   This is especially true if you import most
39:48   of your energy from abroad, as Hungary does.
39:52   Moreover, it has turned out that we have not deprived
39:56   Russia of revenue, but have given them more money.
40:00   In 2022 the profits of the world oil and
40:04   gas industry increased by 70 per cent,
40:08   without the mammoth corporations concerned renewing anything or
40:13   producing more: they just pocketed the extra profit from sanctions,
40:18   which they made Europeans pay for.
40:23   In 2022 the sanctions took four thousand billion
40:27   forints out of the pockets of Hungarians.
40:31   Four thousand billion forints!
40:34   This is how much more money Hungarian companies, the state and families
40:38   in Hungary have spent on energy alone, because of the sanctions.
40:42   This amount could have been spent by
40:45   companies on wage increases, by the state on
40:48   tax cuts or family support, and by families
40:52   on buying a home or on their children.
40:55   One just stands amidst the glass palaces of Brussels,
40:58   not wanting to believe what is going on there.
41:02   We have to face reality: instead of help,
41:06   Brussels is giving us more sanctions.
41:10   The Brussels bureaucracy,
41:13   with well-considered bad intentions,
41:17   has not given Hungary or Poland their share
41:20   of the European Recovery Programme.
41:23   In 2022, in the most difficult year,
41:27   we did not receive money that the member states took
41:31   out as a joint loan, according to which
41:35   we Hungarians will have to pay back our share.
41:39   They are looking for nits to pick out of Hungary’s rule of law, while a
41:44   police van is on permanent standby at the European Parliament building.
41:53   In reality it is the Member States that should be monitoring Brussels,
41:56   not Brussels monitoring the Member States.
41:59   I hope this will be the case
42:02   after the European elections in 2024.
42:05   If Brussels wants to go to war under any circumstances,
42:09   then it should go to war against inflation. It is not doing so.
42:13   But we are continuously fighting our own war on inflation. We have already enacted
42:18   two dozen or so measures to protect families and businesses.
42:23   The most important thing now, my friends,
42:27   is not to see inflation as an inescapable scourge.
42:32   And even though inflation is peaking and placing a heavy burden on families, it
42:37   should not frighten us, it should not chill us, and we should not be resigned to it.
42:42   Action must be taken, and it will yield results. I learned from Sándor Demján
42:48   that in times of crisis there is no such thing as normativity.
42:53   You must intervene in the economy with courage.
42:56   This is what we are doing, which is why
42:59   the average family today is saving
43:03   181,000 forints a month in reduced utility bills.
43:06   This is unique in the whole of Europe.
43:09   The Left is calling for the food price freeze
43:12   to be withdrawn, but it will remain
43:15   until we can bring inflation down.
43:19   The Left — together with the banks, unsurprisingly — is also
43:23   calling for the lifting of the retail interest rate freeze.
43:26   But the interest rate freeze is protecting
43:30   350,000 families from interest rate
43:33   rises, and until interest rates start to fall,
43:36   the freeze should stay in place.
43:39   Instead of withdrawing it, we have extended it to student loans.
43:44   So today we are protecting 200,000 students from inflation.
43:49   Student loans are interest-free, and the interest rate
43:53   on a free-use student loan is half the market rate.
43:57   And now we are introducing a
44:00   reduced-rate county travel pass.
44:03   From 1 May, we will offer monthly nationwide
44:09   and county passes valid for both bus and rail travel.
44:14   The monthly pass will cost 9,450 forints, and the
44:18   monthly nationwide pass will cost 18,900 forints.
44:23   Those who travel to work by public
44:26   transport can save a considerable amount.
44:29   Ladies and gentlemen,
44:32   forging a good shield — one that can
44:35   absorb heavy blows — is expensive.
44:39   We have taxed banks, energy companies
44:45   and multinational retail chains.
44:51   And the windfall profits taken are put into the
44:54   fund to preserve cuts in household utility bills.
44:57   In summary, 2022 was a year that could have
45:01   broken the backbone of the Hungarian economy.
45:06   The official doomsayers, respected former
45:09   central bank governors and former right-wing
45:12   economists were also expecting this,
45:16   and were already administering the last rites to us.
45:19   Bankruptcies, unemployment, currency collapse,
45:23   insolvency, Armageddon: that was what the Left predicted.
45:29   Now, in February, employment is higher than ever, foreign exchange
45:34   reserves are at record levels, and the forint has stabilised.
45:39   The truth is that,
45:42   alongside and in spite of painfully high
45:45   inflation, in 2022 the Hungarian
45:48   economy broke three records.
45:51   A hat-trick. I hope coach [Marco] Rossi is listening.
45:54   Never have so many people been employed in Hungary.
45:58   Our exports have broken records, and never before
46:02   has there been so much investment in Hungary as there was in 2022.
46:15   This is why we are still on our feet despite high prices,
46:19   and this is why the economy will not stall in 2023.
46:24   Inflation is like a tiger, and you only have one bullet.
46:29   If you miss, it will eat you up.
46:33   Please trust us, we will hit it.
46:37   You can bet on it:
46:40   by the end of the year we will
46:43   have inflation in single digits.
46:51   As we can see, the situation is serious, but not hopeless — in fact it is encouraging.
46:57   Hungarians’ survival instincts are operating; they can see things clearly, and —
47:02   as the national consultation has shown — there is broad agreement
47:07   on the main objectives. Here today I thank all those who took part in the national consultation.
47:13   We will stay out of war, Hungary will remain
47:16   an island of peace and security, and we will
47:20   conquer inflation — this is always
47:23   the Government’s job, and there will be no mistakes.
47:27   But there is something else that a government,
47:31   however confident it may be, will not be able to do on its own.
47:35   You know, everyone has heard,
47:39   what a despicable thing happened in one of our schools.
47:44   One cannot understand why the sky does not fall, why the earth
47:50   does not open up to swallow up those whose place is under it.
47:56   Dear friends, Let us say it the way it is: paedophilia cannot be forgiven.
48:03   Children are sacred to us,
48:07   and it falls to adults to protect children at all costs.
48:25   We do not care that
48:28   the world has gone mad. We do not care
48:31   what repellent aberrations
48:35   some people indulge in.
48:38   We do not care how Brussels excuses
48:41   and explains the inexplicable.
48:45   This is Hungary! And this is where the strictest child protection system in Europe must be!
49:05   The legislation is there, and the missing pieces will be found, but even
49:10   the most determined government cannot succeed in this matter on its own.
49:15   It will require everyone: parents, grandparents,
49:21   mothers and fathers, teachers and educators.
49:26   Because gender propaganda is not just an entertaining caper,
49:31   not just rainbow chatter,
49:34   but the greatest threat stalking our children.
49:37   We want our children to be left alone,
49:40   because enough is enough!
49:44   This kind of thing has no place in Hungary,
49:47   and especially not in our schools.
49:51   I am counting on you, we are counting on all Hungarian people
49:56   of goodwill, so that we can
49:59   do this job together, once and for all, in 2023.
50:03   God above us all, Hungary before all else
50:06   Go, Hungary, go Hungarians!

  1. A political speech riddled with inaccuracies. Made for general consumption of the electorate.

  2. I don’t understand why such obnoxious pederasts and the NGOs who fund them, the lawyers and judges that defend them, and the wealthy backers of the NGOs are allowed to remain unmolested. Perhaps as the pederast alluded to, he can and will use lawfare to persecute anyone who tries to legally challenge his pederasty. Is the police situation so bad in Hungary that these perverts are protected or untouchable by vigilantes?

Would the Hungarian police really be that diligent in investigating arson attacks against NGO offices, law offices that defend these perverts, carbecues ala culture enricher, or muggings against this cast of reprobates where they just happen to be severely beaten in addition to being robbed?

I don’t believe that lawfare is the best tool to fight lawfare. Those who use it are cowards and weaklings and have no honor or self respect. While Orbon might have to take the high road since he is a public figure and can’t do anything that would tarnish his image, his lieutenants could make it known quietly to cooperative police leadership that they would not be opposed to lackluster prosecution or investigation of incidents involving pederasts and those who make their predations possible. Kind of like what the Brandon administration does with prosecuting Antifa or BLM.

    • This does happen afaik in Brazil. The side effect is that at ever increasing rates, individuals in the police force sink into the cesspool they were supposed to fight. With access to better armament being easier for them, they just make dough from both sides. Human nature is opportunistic. My view is that this is the same effect which creates this disturbing corruption in our own political class which sells out their own kin to these barbaric predators. The reward is not always purely monetary, and they have the gall to sell that, too, as moral grandstanding. But fighting corruption with corruption is a double-edged sword. The only successful example I know of is Singapore. Its history between WWII and independence is an interesting one to read. They did get rid of their drug and crime syndicates, but it was a dirty battle. Keeping your own integrity in this is the hard part.

      • Well it wouldn’t really be the right tool to fight drug cartels. I can see how that would get out of control quite easily.

Its the lawfare aspect of it that angers me; the idea that these perverts can get away with their predations because they have the deep pockets of Soros to back them up and bankrupt anyone who would try to fight them in the courtroom. So, the only really effective way to fight them in court is through the deep pockets of the government, which is costly and inefficient.

My view is that the legal system is the wrong venue for this kind of challenge to societal order. It should be enough for the ruling class to legislate against these perverts and there will always be loopholes; but make it known – quietly – to the perverts, those who defend them and rule in their favor, and especially those who fund their legal battles that they do so at substantial risk to their property and persons since they cannot guarantee that police will diligently pursue and prosecute those who take exception to enabling this kind of behavior which the vast majority of Hungarian citizens oppose.

        • I agree, and actually what it really takes is a shift in consciousness of those who matter. I don’t know how to achieve this or who might be capable of bringing this about. My current outlook is pessimistic but I’ve also seen surprising turnarounds. If it can turn the wrong way so quickly, why not also the right one. Coming back to the Singapore example, the struggles weren’t exactly the same, but maybe even more extreme. And the memoirs of the man who lead them through all this might give some inspiring thoughts:
          https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/326981.The_Singapore_Story

          • The Chinese run Singapore and they use Chinese methods including making drug and gang(Triads) members disappear all the time. We are way beyond the lawfare stage for warfare always beats lawfare, without exception. Violence has solved more problems than any other method known to man and it always comes down to violence to solve the weakness of weak men.

          • The Singapore story after WWII is one of bloodshed, so what is going through your mind where you are not prepared for the coming war in Western Europe? There is no one coming to save you but YOU!

          • G: I spent a year there, embedded with a local family. You gain some insight this way.

    • Moon, I could be wrong, but, it will take a galvanizing egregious event to finally push it over the edge where the average man rolls up his sleeves, hoist the black flag and begins to slit throats. These leftist cannot keep the tide from coming in forever.

      • I woukd say that you are a generation or two too late for such a sentiment to be correct.

I don’t see any hope for Western European males, having been reduced after generations of feminization to the status of domesticated poodles, who sit down while they urinate and allow and encourage their females cuckoldry.

In my opinion, American males are not much better outside of a few rural areas where the opportunity to bring vengeance upon culture enrichers and their wealthy and politically powerful enablers is slim to nonexistent; due to the fact that those locations where real men still live are not particularly desirable destinations for either kind of parasite.

The rural areas where almost everyone is armed and politically hostile to the ruling classes and the wokerati of the urban cesspools are just flyover country to the political classes. They don’t go there and have little interest in going there. And the average man that lives in flyover country is likely too busy making a living to bother taking a trip to the urban hives of scum and villainy for a hunting expedition. And far too few American males have no experience with violence or killing even animals to be galvanized whatever the provocation into hurting or killing another human regardless of how badly they need killing.

Say for example the twenty largest American cities were nuked, what would the response be? I certainly wouldn’t be rushing to reenlist to go fight whomever the surviving government claimed was responsible; I’d have a few beers and celebrate, then I would be too busy with my own personal survival and that of my family to do much in the way of revenge or vengeance since there’s not any of the political class in my AO. There’s plenty of people I know who I wouldn’t mind seeing take a dirt nap, but after a few weeks or month of no electricity, water, gasoline, supermarkets, internet, etc, most of then would be dead of natural causes. If for whatever reason feds or local police thugs, or a maurading band of culture enrichers were to appear then it would be possible to do some fighting if there was nowhere to safely retreat to. But little reason to go looking for trouble. If all those cities were suddenly nuked then we would mostly be free of culture enrichers, woke leftists and socialists, the political class, and the elites.

        • Moon, that is a very interesting take and you might be right about what you stated. I have relatives including my sisters who live in the Twin Cities area and they all carry guns including a so called pacifist cousin because of the crazy rise in crime and the revolving door where criminals are back out on the street before the paperwork is done. The DFL is destroying MN and where I am from a certain Senator was pelted with bottles and had to be emergency evaced before she was lynched, funny, there was not one thing about it in the papers or news.

  3. The only thing surprising about the assistant teacher’s attitude is he said it. I think a translated video might open up the eyes of many people. The guy is saying I can seduce and corrupt your children (teens) and then let you bankrupt yourself in litigation cause that guy has deep pockets. Is there a translated or in English video of this person? I don’t want to look for it, I fear what I may find and I don’t want it in my history.

  4. HERE’S THE REAL STORY the Oligarch globalists behind both the WEF and the Democrat Party are trying to cover up and distract us from understanding. Forget about the cyber hacks on the airlines, the outages and attacks on the power grid, the Chinese spy balloon and even East Palestine for just a moment… THE REAL STORY they don’t want you to focus on is their removal of the last 3 nationalist leaders of Western Democracies…

Trump in the US and Bolsonaro in Brazil were both removed by internal political coups and stolen elections. And now Orban in Hungary in the midst of being removed by a color revolution unleashed by Soros NGOs and former U.S. UN Ambassador and now head of USAID (CIA) Samantha Power (wife of Cass Sunstein, the hard-core Marxist-Communist adviser of Obama) who is leading an open color-revolution against Orban with boots and NGOs on the ground in Hungary right now. Their coup is nearly complete. Next will come a final kill-shot “shock & awe” event which will be used to usher in their “Great Reset” under an unelected global government. And then, it will finally become obvious to the world that elections no longer matter.
