The Internal Revenue Service allows Americans going through economic hardships to withdraw some of their 401(k) retirement money early — but figures show more people are using this service now than in previous years.
Before the pandemic, the average number of people dipping into their 401(k) Vanguard Group account was two percent — roughly 100,000 of the investment company’s five million clients.

Eurozone Inflation Dropped for a Third Month. Which Countries in Europe Are Still Feeling the Pinch?
Inflation across Europe has dropped for the third consecutive month in January, according to preliminary data shared by Eurostat, the European statistics agency, on Wednesday.
Eurozone annual inflation is expected to be down to 8.5 per cent in January 2023, down from 9.2 per cent in the previous month.
In December 2022, inflation finally dropped from double figures after it surged to a 41-year high of 11.1 per cent in October. In November, inflation started to decline and was estimated at 10.1 per cent.
Even as the majority of eurozone countries saw a decrease in inflation since the heights of October 2022, seven countries remain in the double digits in January.

The employment picture started off 2023 on a stunningly strong note, with nonfarm payrolls posting their biggest gain since July 2022.
Nonfarm payrolls increased by 517,000 for January, above the Dow Jones estimate of 187,000 and December’s gain of 260,000, according to a Labor Department report Friday.

New York NatGas Prices Erupt to 20-Year High Ahead of Polar Vortex
New Yorkers will feel the wrath of Old Man Winter today as temperatures will plummet into the teens and single digits by this weekend. Heating demand will soar as millions turn up their thermostats to stay warm. The result so far has been the largest spike in New York natural gas prices in two decades.
Bloomberg data shows next-day NatGas deliveries via the Iroquois Gas pipeline that transports Canadian NatGas into New York jumped to $164.80 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), a 14x increase from Wednesday prices. 2 Arrested in Central Valley Shooting That Left 6 Dead
Two gang members were arrested early Friday, one after a gunbattle, in the January massacre of six people including a baby at a central California home associated with a rival gang, the Tulare County sheriff said.
Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said Noah David Beard, 25, was taken into custody and Angel “Nanu” Uriarte, 35, was wounded in the shootout with federal agents and was undergoing surgery, but was stable and expected to survive.
“I’m happy we were able to put these two men behind bars,” the sheriff said.
The suspects and members of the victims’ family have a long history of gang violence but the motive for the shooting “is not exactly clear,” Boudreaux said at a news conference at the sheriff’s headquarters in Visalia.
The Tulare County District Attorney’s Office charged both suspects with six counts of murder and other crimes. They face a potential sentence of the death penalty or life in prison without parole, prosecutors said.
The six victims, including a teen mother and her baby, were gunned down on Jan. 16 in rural Goshen, a community of 3,000 in the San Joaquin Valley.

ChatGPT Writes Poem Praising Hunter Biden
Researchers are finding more examples of brazen political bias exhibited by AI-based chatbot ChatGPT, with the program refusing to write a poem about Marjorie Taylor-Greene despite gleefully praising Hunter Biden as a “spirit that refuses to fall”.
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence software program launched by OpenAI in November 2022. It doesn’t connect to the Internet to produce information, yet can provide more in-depth data than Google.
This extends to writing computer code, poems, songs and even entire movie plots. Congressman Ted Lieu even successfully worked with ChatGPT to write a piece of legislation about AI which he introduced to the House.
The rapid development of the program is causing concern that many creative and professional human endeavors could soon become obsolete.

Why am I doing this? Because Whitney Webb asked me to. She’s asked all of us to “engage more” with the source material in her endnotes, to “fact-check” her research. House Judiciary GOP Subpoena FBI’s Christopher Wray, AG Merrick Garland
The House Judiciary Committee has issued subpoenas to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland, demanding they provide the committee with documents pertaining to FVI investigations of school board meetings.
In October of 2021, Garland issued a memo highlighting “violent threats” against school officials amid a rise in parental opposition to the teaching of Critical Race Theory in public schools. That memo, directing law enforcement to address the issue, attracted considerable scrutiny from conservatives who categorized it as part of the Biden administration’s alleged “weaponization” of federal agencies.

Hunter Biden was served with a defamation lawsuit by John Paul Mac Isaac last week, five days before the disgraced first son sought his own legal action against the former computer repair shop owner who came into possession of the infamous “laptop from hell.”
A private investigator hired by Mac Isaac tracked down Hunter in Culver City, Calif. on Jan. 27 to serve him with the lawsuit, which seeks damages of $1.5 million from the president’s son.

Jury Finds Michigan Man Guilty of Supporting ISIS
Eight years ago, Ibraheem Izzy Musaibli traveled to the Middle East and joined ISIS, one of thousands from around the world who joined the militant group’s efforts to establish a caliphate, according to federal prosecutors.
Now, the 32-year-old Dearborn man faces prison time after a jury convicted him Monday of three counts of supporting the Islamic State group and training with members from 2015 to 2018. He’s scheduled to be sentenced May 11, facing up to 50 years in prison.
“Ibraheem Musaibli traveled halfway around the world and joined a vicious, brutal, and violent terrorist organization known — and proud of — its barbaric acts of terror,” U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison for the Eastern District of Michigan said in a statement.

Majority of Americans Back Ban on Tobacco Products, CDC Study Reveals
A majority of American adults would favor a sweeping ban on tobacco products, according to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Conducted from March to April of 2021, the study used a web panel survey of 6,455 participants, aged 18 or older, and was released Thursday. The survey results were weighted to match population proportions from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Attempting to Travel Overseas to Join ISIS-K
Defendant Proposed Plot To Start Conflict In United States Between Government And Militias
A Beavercreek, Ohio, man, who was arrested by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force at John Glenn International Airport in 2018 while trying to travel to Afghanistan to join the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) or ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), was sentenced today in federal court.
Naser Almadaoji, 23, an Iraqi-born U.S. citizen, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release.
Almadaoji pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization in November 2021. He admitted to attempting to provide material support — himself, as personnel — to foreign terrorist organizations, namely ISIS and ISIS-K.

Maryland Woman Who Accused Her Husband of Molesting Kids Gets 4 Years for Shooting Him
Shanteari Weems shot her husband, James Weems, a retired Baltimore police officer, at a luxury hotel in D.C. last year.
WASHINGTON — A Maryland woman will spend four years behind bars for shooting her husband at a D.C. luxury hotel last year. A judge handed down the sentence in a D.C. courtroom Friday.
Shanteari Weems pleaded guilty to two charges related to the shooting back in November. Prosecutors recommended a two-year sentence for aggravated assault and a gun charge. Judge Michael O’Keefe called that recommendation too lenient, given the details of the case. He doubled the prosecution’s recommended sentence for Shanteari Weems, sparking outrage from friends, family and supporters inside the courtroom.
Shanteari Weems’ lawyer, Tony Garcia, said Weems thought she would be released Friday.
Shanteari Weems shot her husband, James Weems in late July 2022 in the formerly named Mandarin Oriental hotel in Southwest, now known as The Salamander DC. She accused her husband, a retired Baltimore police officer, of molesting children at her day care business.
“I was supposed to protect those children,” Shaneari Weems said in a tearful statement to the court Friday. “My husband was supposed to help me protect those kids. I bear so much guilt because the person I chose to love and trust turned out to be the one the kids needed protecting from.”

New York Man and Alabama Woman Sentenced for Attempting to Provide Material Support to ISIS
James Bradley, aka Abdullah, 21, of the Bronx, New York, and Arwa Muthana, 30, of Hoover, Alabama, were sentenced to 11 years in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release and nine years in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release, respectively, for attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).
In September 2022, Bradley and Muthana pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to ISIS before U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer. According to court documents, Bradley and Muthana are ISIS supporters who sought to travel to the Middle East to join and fight for ISIS. Bradley expressed violent extremist views since at least 2019, including his desire to support ISIS by traveling overseas to join the group or committing a terrorist attack in the United States. In May 2020, Bradley stated to an undercover law enforcement officer (UC-1) a belief that ISIS may be good for Muslims because ISIS was establishing a caliphate. Bradley also expressed his desire to conduct a terrorist attack in the United States and discussed potentially attacking the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. Bradley explained that if he could not leave the United States, he would do “something” in the United States instead, referring to carrying out an attack.

The Pentagon has made a stunning admission about the Chinese balloon that is currently floating over America.
Department of Defense (DOD) spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said the balloon was “maneuverable.”

Ted Cruz Puts DC on Notice, Introduces Constitutional Amendment to Impose Term Limits on Congress

Tyre Nichols Death: Memphis Police Officer Who Allegedly Used Taser Fired, ‘Departmentally Charged’
Memphis police said that it has departmentally charged another officer after the Jan. 7 traffic stop which sent Tyre Nichols to a local hospital, where he died days later.
The Memphis Police Department said in a statement that officer Preston Hemphill is being terminated and has been departmentally charged with “multiple” violations of policy. A spokesperson for the MPD told Fox News Digital on Friday that Hemphill “was just terminated today.”

Virginia Man Convicted of Supporting ISIS Accused of Meeting With ‘American Talban’
A Virginia man convicted nearly a decade ago for providing support to the Islamic State is accused of violating his release by meeting with convicted American Taliban supporter John Walker Lindh.
The FBI took photos of Ali Shukri Amin meeting with Lindh on three different occasions for about three hours, according to court documents. Under the terms of his release, Shukri is barred from meeting with known extremists.

Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin Has 56% Approval Rating, New Survey
Virginia GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin has a 56% approval rating among state voters, according to a recently released survey.
The Mason Dixon survey released Thursday shows Youngkin’s approval rating his highest since taking office last year.
Thirty-one percent of those surveyed disapproved of the governor’s job performance.
Youngkin won the Virginia gubernatorial election in 2021, running on a pro-parent and anti-tax platform.
He is the state’s first GOP-elected governor since 2013.

Vote to Condemn the ‘Horrors of Socialism’ Splits Dems: 109 Vote for it, 86 Vote Against
A vote on language condemning the “horrors of socialism” split House Democrats on Thursday, which one Republican said reveals a soft spot some Democrats have for a political philosophy that has resulted in impoverishment and death for hundreds of millions of people.
Republicans called up the resolution as a way to remind the public that socialist policies — which they fear have been creeping into American life after two years of Democrat control in Washington — go against the values on which America was founded. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., said Thursday that socialism is “one of the most destructive ideologies in world history.”
As expected, the resolution split Democrats, as some have openly described themselves as adherents of “democratic socialism.” As a group, Democrats narrowly voted in favor of the resolution by a 109-86 tally, even though every Democrat who debated the bill spoke against the resolution.

Alberta Government Mandates Free Speech Reporting for Universities
The Alberta government will require post-secondary institutions to provide annual free speech reporting to Advanced Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides after the University of Lethbridge cancelled a controversial speaker earlier this week.
On Monday, the University Lethbridge caved to public pressure and cancelled a speaker who questioned whether abuses against Indigenous children amounted to cultural genocide.

Canadian ‘Solidarity’ Means No LNG for EU
Western energy solidarity is running out of steam. Canada is currently offering a chilling example of how Western “partners” should not treat each other.
When the EU announced its renunciation of Russian gas supplies in response to the war in Ukraine in spring 2022, all European governments praised the switch to liquefied natural gas — also known as LNG gas — as a great (and much more expensive) alternative.
The US and Canada, among others, were touted as suppliers who should step in to make up for the sanctioned Russian gas deliveries.
While the American LNG industry is now benefiting greatly from the loss of Russian competition, Canada is no longer sticking to its earlier aid commitments. The country does not want to build transhipment terminals for shipping LNG gas to Europe — citing concerns about “climate protection”.

Canadian Senator Blasts Censorship Bill
Canadian Senator David Adams Richards is sounding alarm bells around Bill C-11 as a tool of censorship, as the legislation is entering the final part of the debate in Canada’s Senate.
C-11 is the successor to Bill C-10 designed to amend the Broadcasting Act, which failed in 2021 amid a flurry of criticism regarding the way it sought to regulate online platforms.
Richards was a vocal critic of C-10 as well, saying at one point during the debate two years ago that it didn’t need amendments, but “a stake through the heart” — which, figuratively speaking, it eventually received.

Controversial Bill C-11 Passes Through Senate
The Liberal government’s controversial “Online Streaming Bill” has passed through the Senate.
On Thursday, the Senate approved Bill C-11, otherwise known as the “Online Streaming Bill,” which has drawn a variety of criticisms, including from leading Canadian novelists and tech giant YouTube.
Bill C-11 will now head back to the House of Commons, where members vote over passing it into law.

Liberals Withdraw Amendment Banning Hunting Rifles and Shotguns
The Liberals have withdrawn a controversial amendment to Bill C-21, which would ban numerous models of rifles and shotguns used by hunters and farmers in Canada.
Bill C-21, which cements the Liberals’ ban on handguns, is before the House of Commons public safety committee. Last year, a Liberal MP introduced an amendment banning in criminal law, rather than regulations, any rifle or shotgun that could accept a magazine with more than five rounds, regardless of whether it has such a magazine.
In practice, this would prohibit hundreds of types of guns used by hunters and farmers, as well as short-shooters.
The amendment was widely condemned by gun owners, including many from Indigenous nations.

Confidence in German Army’s Ability to Repel an Attack Fall to Record Low
The confidence of Germans in their armed forces has reached the lowest point on record, according to a survey conducted annually by Infratest dimap for the Die Welt newspaper.
More Germans than ever expressed concerns over the Bundeswehr’s ability to repel an attack on the country or one of its allies, and they believe deficiencies in the armed forces’ equipment and procurement system are greatly stifling Germany’s military capabilities.
Just 35 percent of respondents claimed to have “very great” or “great” trust in the Bundeswehr as a whole, the lowest number to be recorded by the survey, which has existed for the past 25 years.

Finnish police claim to have shut down a protest that would have seen a copy of the Islamic Qur’an set on fire as part of a demonstration against the country joining the NATO alliance.

Germany Open to Idea West Behind Nord Stream Sabotage With “Aim of Blaming it on Russia”
In surprising bit of candid investigative reporting out of mainstream media, The Times asked the question this week: who attacked the Nord Stream pipelines? In an honest and objective fashion, the premier British paper writes, “In this global whodunnit, the US, Russia and even Britain have all been suspects.”
Naturally, the collective West rushed to blame Russia for sabotaging its own natural gas delivery infrastructure in the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 26 blasts underneath the Baltic Sea.
The most important twist to the West’s narrative that is featured in the Times report concerns Germany. Its officials say they are now “open to theories” that the sabotage attack was conducted by a Western country “with the aim of blaming it on Russia.”
The key passage comments on the ongoing German investigation, deemed to have made little progress for lack of evidence as to who was behind the three blasts that disabled the pipelines. Germany, writes The Times, has “yet to uncover any compelling evidence” pointing to Russia, and it remains that the German investigation is “open to theories that a Western state carried out the bombing with the aim of blaming it on Russia.”

Polish Farmers Block Roads in Protest Against Grain Imports From Ukraine
In the Polish village of Dorohusk, just two miles from the Ukrainian border, Polish farmers protested on Thursday by blocking the road for several hours and stopping trucks from Ukraine to block the import of grain. Farmers claim Ukrainian grain, which was to be transported through Poland to reach other global markets, is being sold on the Polish market.
Several hundred protesters gathered at the site near the border crossing at Dorohusk, and in the town of Staszów, tractors blocked a rail terminal at which, they claimed, grain from Ukraine was being off-loaded and sold in Poland, undercutting Polish farmers.

UK: Sikh Who Tried to Assassinate Queen With Crossbow Pleads Guilty to Treason
A Sikh man who sought to assassinate the late Queen Elizabeth II with a crossbow at Windsor Castle on Christmas Day has pleaded guilty to treason.

Hungary would consider moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem should Israel make such a request, Balazs Orban, advisor to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, told the Israel Hayom newspaper in a recent interview.

NYT Claims Russian Troop Deaths Nearing 200K, Far Surpassing All Prior Estimates
By late last year, US officials as well as most reports emerging in international media estimated that in total 200,000 Russian and Ukrainian troops had been killed since the start of the Ukraine invasion. In November and December, Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had offered up to that point the highest estimate thus far of 200,000 from both sides, also saying 40,000 civilians had been killed. Biden’s Border Crisis Costs Municipalities $202 Billion
In a recent post, I discussed statements New York City Mayor Eric Adams has made on CBS News concerning the crisis that has swept 43,000 migrants from the Southwest border into his city. As I noted, Adams claimed that NYC would need $2.8 billion in the next fiscal year to handle the flow — a rate of $65,116.27 per migrant. Given that 3.1 million migrants have entered the United States illegally and either evaded apprehension or been caught and released by DHS since Biden took office, that totals out to more than $195 billion in new annual municipal costs — a figure that rises by at least $159 million per day. Caring for migrants plainly ain’t cheap, and detention would be cheaper.

DeSantis Eyes Program to Transport More Migrants From Florida: Memo
Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis will reportedly use a special session of the state legislature next week to push for an “Unauthorized Alien Transport Program” to expand on the practice of transporting illegal migrants to pro-migration, left-wing strongholds.

Governor Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., is making good on his plan to punish Florida establishments that allow sexualized drag shows to be attended by young children.
The governor filed a six-count legal complaint against the Orlando Philharmonic Foundation for “exposing minor children to lewd sexual acts during a drag show that took place in Orlando on December 28,” local outlet “The Floridian” reported Friday.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released a zero draft of its international pandemic treaty which will give the unelected global health agency new powers to “tackle” anything that it deems to be “false, misleading, misinformation or disinformation” if passed.
The WHO has been pushing the treaty since December 2021 and those drafting the treaty intend to present a final report to the World Health Assembly (WHA), the WHO’s decision-making body, in May 2024.
If adopted, the treaty will be legally binding under international law and the WHO’s 194 member states (which represent 98% of all the countries in the world) would be required to comply with the treaty’s demands to target misinformation.

A new cold record has been set on Mount Washington in the US, NBC Boston reports.
The US National Weather Service (NWS) says the temperature at one of the highest points in the northeastern US has dropped to minus 75.5 degrees Celsius.
This means that the old record from 2004 of minus 75 degrees has been broken.
The NWS has issued warnings for severe cold temperatures in areas of the northeastern United States.
In some places, temperatures could drop to dangerous levels over the weekend, according to the agency.
This could pose a potential life-threatening threat to residents in the affected areas.
On August 24, 1960, Russian scientists measured the temperature at minus 88.3 degrees – in Antarctica. That’s the lowest temperature ever recorded on Earth.
