Dismembered in Buttes-Chaumont

There’s nothing in the following story from France to indicate that cultural enrichment was involved in this horrific crime, but I doubt there’s anyone living in the area who would bet against it.

Many thanks to Gary Fouse for translating this article from Le Parisien:

Two days after the macabre discovery of a dismembered woman in the Buttes-Chaumont park in Paris (19th arrondissement), the investigation has made a major advance. According to our information, the investigators of the Criminal Brigade have been able to identify the victim through her fingerprints.

Of North African origin, this 46-year-old woman’s disappearance had been reported on February 6. She lived in Seine-Saint-Denis. The case was assigned to investigators of the Brigade for Repression of Crimes Against Persons (BRDP), but no information had led to finding her.

Her disappearance had been reported to the police by her husband

It was her husband who alerted the police station in the municipality. “There was nothing about this couple to associate them with any criminal activity,” a source close to the case stressed. The officers of the Criminal Brigade are now concentrating on the background of the victim to try and understand why and by whom she was killed.

On Monday afternoon the woman’s pelvis was discovered by maintenance workers. She was wearing blue jeans with a floral design. On Tuesday a search was organized in and around this large green space in the 19th arrondissement of the capital to find the rest of her body.

The discovery of the hands and the head, in particular, on a railroad track located at the eastern entrance of the garden allowed police forensic technicians to know with certainty that this woman was the one who disappeared. But for now, the police do not yet know when the crime was committed. The autopsy, which will take place in the coming hours, should reveal more.
