SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A judge set bond at $2 million Friday for an 18-year-old Illinois man who is accused of traveling to Michigan to meet a teenager and then stabbing her for refusing to have sex.
The 14-year-old suffered severe injuries Wednesday but “seems to be holding her own,” Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said.
Julian Pinedo of Monmouth, Illinois, was charged with attempted murder during his first court appearance Friday. He did not appear with an attorney.
Investigators said the victim’s sibling was asleep at the time of the attack in Springfield Township and their parents weren’t home. The teen told sheriff’s deputies that she met Pinedo on a social media website.

Close Call: Lithium-Ion Battery Explodes in Adams County Fire Investigator’s Face
Common batteries can cause damage, injuries if not properly stored, discarded
ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — Jerry Means and Ryder Robison have worked together for a while.
“We have — since his Day 1,” Means said of Robison who started with Adams County Fire Rescue in 2021.
Means, the chief of investigations for ACFR, and, Robison, fire inspector and investigator with ACFR, have seen a lot in their time as fire investigators.
“We’ve spent some time in the dark together out on fire scenes, crawling around,” Means said.
But nothing was quite like this past Sunday night.
“I thought he had just burned his face off,” Means said.
“It was terrifying,” Robison said. “Because it just happened like that.”
Means and Robison were responding to a house fire call.
One of the residents had called to report a skateboard with lithium-ion batteries had exploded in the home. One of the roommates had minor burns but all got out okay.
Then, as Means and Robison arrived to investigate, another explosion.
“It appeared that all of these batteries had already burned,” Robison said. “We also took the extra step of utilizing a thermal imaging camera to ensure the temperature was okay. And as I set them down outside, out of the corner of my eye I saw a red glow.”
“He’s bent over laying it down and he said something like, ‘Uh oh!’ And then it just — boom — it exploded,” Means said. “And the next thing I remember we’re about 12 feet away.”

Exclusive — Mark Meckler: Optimistic for a Convention of States by 2026
Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States Action group, hopes to have enough states on board to have a Convention of States — one of the two ways to amend the Constitution — by 2026, he said during an interview on Breitbart News Saturday.
Meckler pointed to Article V of the Constitution, which contains two clauses detailing how the country can amend the United States Constitution.
“The first way is, whenever two-thirds of both Houses of Congress decide an amendment is necessary, they can propose that amendment and put it out to the states for ratification, and it takes three quarters of states to ratify that amendment,” he explained, pointing to the second clause, which says that two-thirds of the states can gather to take action if they cannot get Congress to move.
“The method is, the state legislatures alone — no governor’s signature necessary — when the majority of both houses of the state legislature say they want to call a convention, they pass a resolution calling for that convention. And then they submit that to Congress and when 34 states have done that, then the convention is called,” he said, noting that his organization is involved in this.

Half Moon Bay Mass Shooting Erupted Over $100 Bill: Sources
A supervisor told the suspect he must pay for the damage from an accident with a co-worker involving farm equipment, sources say
After sleeping with a Glock-17 semiautomatic pistol under his pillow for two years, accused Half Moon Bay mass killer Chunli Zhao told investigators he was set into a rage after a mushroom farm supervisor demanded he pay $100 over a work accident that he insisted wasn’t his fault, sources with direct knowledge of the matter told NBC Bay Area’s Investigative Unit.
Zhao, 66, is being held on murder charges for the deaths of seven farm workers and attempted murder of an eighth worker.
The case being developed by investigators suggests that Zhao methodically hunted down and executed coworkers that he had held long grudges against. Sources say Zhao recalled that he bought the 9 mm pistol at a local store two years before, after being bullied by co-workers.
But what triggered the massacre Monday, authorities say, was a dispute Zhao had over paying a $100 bill for a farm equipment crash at Terra California Garden, formerly called Mountain Mushrooms. About a half hour before the shooting, sources say, Zhao complained to a supervising co-worker that he was not to blame for the earlier accident. Sources said Zhao claimed his co-worker intentionally ran into him with a bulldozer while Zhao was driving a forklift.
After insisting that Zhao still had to pay, according to sources familiar with Zhao’s account, the supervisor rode off on a bicycle.
Zhao told investigators he followed and caught up with the supervisor outside a greenhouse, talking with the co-worker Zhao blamed for the accident. After confronting the boss again, who maintained Zhao had to pay the $100 bill, Zhao told investigators he walked away but waited nearby inside a greenhouse. It was then, sources say, he allegedly shot the co-worker from the accident and then the supervisor.
Our sources say Zhao told investigators he returned to a trailer encampment and went to the co-worker’s trailer, and targeted his wife, saying: “I killed your husband, you should join him too.” Sources said Zhao then went to another trailer, shooting one co-worker as he slept and wounding the victim’s brother.
Zhao left the scene, sources say, driving to a nearby mushroom farm on Highway 1, Concord Farms, where he had worked five years before. There, he allegedly shot and killed the assistant manager — who Zhao claimed had mistreated him — as well as a San Francisco couple he had worked with there.
Our sources say Zhao told investigators he then drove to the Half Moon Bay sheriff’s substation, where he waited in the parking lot about two hours, to get arrested. Authorities found the gun, ammo and a goodbye note he had written to his wife, telling her to take care of their 40-year-old daughter living in China.

Nancy Pelosi Indicates She Has ‘No Intention’ of Watching Bodycam Video of Home Invasion
California Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi on Friday indicated that she has “absolutely no intention” of watching the police body camera footage of the incident last year during which David DePape allegedly entered her San Francisco home and struck her husband, Paul, with a hammer.
“As you know today there was a release of some information. I have not heard the 911 call, I have not heard the confession, I have not seen the break in, and I have absolutely no intention of seeing the deadly assault on my husband’s life,” Pelosi said, according to The Hill.
The San Francisco Superior Court this week released the body camera footage of the incident along with Paul Pelosi’s 911 call, after siding with a group of legacy media outlets that had sued to secure their release.
In the video, police approach the Pelosi home and knock on the door. Authorities briefly converse with Pelosi and DePape, both of whom are grasping a hammer, inquiring as to the situation.
At first, the scene appears calm, but DePape quickly turns violent after police ask the pair to drop the hammer. He then seizes full control of the tool and strikes Pelosi, prompting police intervention.

I Am Not Certain Whether Germans Wants Ukraine to Win This War, Says Polish Defense Minister
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that he was not certain if Germany wants Ukraine to win the conflict. He is of the opinion that Berlin should donate more tanks from its stockpiles to Ukraine, which is why Polish pressure on Germany remains as strong as it was before.
“There is a reason for this pressure,” said Blaszczak.
He noted that when the Polish government sought support for Ukraine, it was widely criticized by the opposition.

Croatian President Zoran Milanovic has scolded Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock for claiming Europe is now at war with Russia, calling her remarks a “kind of madness.”
During a visit to the port city of Split, Milanovic claimed Europe’s apparent declaration of war on Russia was news to him and confirmed that Croatia would in “no way” be dragged into what he referred to as a “proxy war” between NATO and Russia.
The Croatian president then wished Germany, tongue in cheek, better luck this time around following its previous attempt to defeat the Soviet Union in World War II.

Netherlands: Extinction Rebellion Activists Arrested at Home Over Plans to Block A12 Highway
The police arrested six climate activists at their homes on Thursday morning for plans to block the A12 highway on Saturday. “Calling for a criminal offense, such as blocking the public road, counts as sedition,” the Public Prosecution Service (OM) said.
According to the climate action group Extinction Rebellion (XR), at least two of the arrested nonviolent climate activists form part of the group, and the arrests are part of an effort to suppress the peaceful blockade. “XR condemns the criminalization of nonviolent climate activists,” XR said. “The right to peaceful protest is being trampled by the Dutch state.”
Extinction Rebellion plans to block the A12 highway next to parliament and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy in The Hague on Saturday to nonviolently demand an immediate end to the government’s annual fossil subsidies. According to XR, over a thousand people have signed up for the protest.

Orban Tears Into Scholz for Tanks Deployment to Ukraine and Declares ‘You Are at War’
Germany’s decision to send advanced armoured tanks to Ukraine has sparked the fury of EU and NATO ally Viktor Orban. From Washington to Berlin to Kyiv, a Western decision to send battle tanks to Ukraine was hailed enthusiastically. Moscow first shrugged it off — and later launched another barrage of attacks.
But in an interview with Hungarian state radio, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Germany’s decision to send 14 Leopard 2 A6 tanks to Ukraine was emblematic of the increasing role Western countries are playing in the war, now in its 12th month.
The Hungarian leader said on Friday that Hungary getting drawn into the war in Ukraine “is out of the question as long as I am prime minister” but he thinks it is too late for other countries in Europe.
He said: “The others are not only in danger, they have already been swept away.
“If you send weapons, if you finance the entire annual budget of one of the belligerents, if you promise more and more weapons, more and more modern weapons, then you can say whatever you want. No matter what you say, you are in the war.”

UK Defense Committee Chair Calls for ‘Massive Arms Factory’ In Poland
The construction of a major arms factory in Poland would transform procurement for Ukraine’s forces and could be necessary to make the Ukrainian war effort more sustainable and less dependent on Western aid, a U.K. Conservative MP has told Britain’s Telegraph newspaper.
In an interview with the newspaper, Tobias Ellwood, who also chairs the U.K. parliament’s defense select committee, argued Western governments have demonstrated a lack of strategic foresight in their plans for helping Ukraine. He welcomed the decision to deliver Western-made battle tanks but believes the model of transferring weapons to Kyiv with differing supply chains and types of ammunition, was not sustainable in the longer term.

Wealth of the Swiss Billionaires Increased by 52.2 Percent After Pandemic
Globally, the wealth of the richest have increased massively. This is shown by a report by the Institute for Policy Studies, which has accused the WEF of ignoring the problem of the concentration of money and power. Switzerland has for a long time been a paradise for the super rich. It is teeming with millionaires and billionaires.
Hardly any other country has so many rich people. The country has 65 095 people with net assets equivalent to at least $5 million and 4 520 people with assets of $50 million or more.
There are also around 40 billionaires — the caste of owners and shareholders of large corporations in a wide variety of areas. They have benefited enormously in the last 10 years, more so than the richest of the rich in almost any other country.
At least that’s the conclusion of the Extreme Wealth report, which was written by the Institute for Policy Studies, Oxfam, Patriotic Millionaires and the Fight Inequality Alliance. It analyzed the development of wealth concentration over the last 10 years.

Caroline Glick: The Israeli Left Begs the World to Protect Its Power
In 2007, then-editor of Israel’s far-left Haaretz newspaper David Landau implored then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to “rape” Israel. Landau told Rice that Israel “wants to be raped by the United States” into making territorial concessions to the Palestinians.
Landau’s statement, which was widely reported at the time, was and remains shocking. But over the past quarter-century, it has become common practice for the Israeli Left to turn to foreign governments and other international actors for help subverting democratic processes in Israel.
In 1977, Israel’s Left lost its political majority forever when working-class Israelis abandoned it for the political Right. Over the past 46 years, the Left has held power for a total of just under 13 years.
To compensate for its loss of political power, the Israeli Left expanded the power of Israel’s already powerful bureaucracy, which its members controlled. Over the past 30 years, using its control over the Supreme Court and the attorney general’s office, the Left enacted a judicial revolution that transformed the unelected justices into the most powerful arm of government, with no checks on its power or accountability to the public. Through judicial fiat, the justices and their allies in the attorney general’s office have clipped the wings of Israel’s elected leaders, and made all policies and laws dependent on their prior or retroactive approval.
As the years passed, more and more Israelis fell victim to the legal fraternity, which rules in accordance with its leftist values and political interests. And as more Israelis became aware of the problem, the issue of legal reform became increasingly salient in elections…

Russia has blocked access to encrypted technology company Skiff.com. Skiff provides encrypted email, calendar, and documents and is a challenger to privacy-invasive companies such as Google.

The app does not store any metadata or content on its servers, which means that your conversations are not accessible to anyone other than you and the person you’re communicating with.
It’s for this reason that Skiff has grown in popularity in recent months since it first launched its private Google docs alternative back in 2021.

The attacker, now known as 25-year-old Yasin Kanza, stormed a church in Algeciras armed with a machete and stabbed a priest in the neck. He then went to another church where he attacked a sacristan, hunting his victim down as he attempted to flee and delivering a fatal wound in the town square.

Salvadoran Gang Member Charged With Murder Entered U.S. As Unaccompanied Minor
The teenage gang member recently arrested for the murder of a Maryland woman came to the U.S. under a special program that welcomes illegal immigrants under the age of 18 and provides them with a multitude of taxpayer benefits. The government refers to them as Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) and hundreds of thousands have entered the country in the last few years. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is charged with caring for them and the agency spends millions of dollars annually to house, medically treat, entertain, and school UAC who come mainly from Central America. Under U.S. law illegal immigrant minors are almost always allowed to remain in the country and are quickly disbursed to a government-funded shelter upon arrival at the border. In fiscal year 2022, a record 149,000 UAC were apprehended by federal agents, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) figures.
Underage migrants without an adult usually possess a ticket into the U.S. via the Mexican border and this disturbing case illustrates the profound consequences of such a reckless program.

“Tragedy … Might be Triggering”: British Universities Add Warnings for Greek and Shakespearean Plays
The problem with universities overwhelmingly controlled by faculty on the left is that there are few to offer a dose of reality or rationality. Left to their own devices, some faculty seem to search for new ways to demonstrate woke priorities. British universities have long been ridiculed for policies controlling speech or symbols. Now, The Telegraph is reporting that British universities are adding trigger warnings to Greek and Shakespearean tragedies to protect students from being triggered by tragedy. Indeed, there are now warnings on other classics for everything from “ableism” to “depictions of rural life.”
One such warning stated, “Tragedy is a genre obsessed with violence and suffering, often of a sexual or graphic kind, and so some of the content might be triggering for some students.”
