House GOP Kicks Off Majority With Vote to Slash IRS Funding

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans began their tenure in the majority Monday by passing a bill that would rescind nearly $71 billion that Congress had provided the IRS, fulfilling a campaign promise even though the legislation is unlikely to advance further.

Democrats had beefed up the IRS over the next decade to help offset the cost of top health and environmental priorities they passed last year and to replenish an agency struggling to provide basic services to taxpayers and ensure fairness in tax compliance.

The money is on top of what Congress provides the IRS annually through the appropriations process and immediately became a magnet for GOP campaign ads in the fall claiming that the boost would lead to an army of IRS agents harassing hard-working Americans.

The bill to rescind the money passed the House on a party-line vote of 221-210. The Democratic-controlled Senate has vowed to ignore it.

Remix News Reinstated on Twitter After Being Banned More Than 2 Years Ago

Twitter has reinstated Remix News’ Twitter account after our site was permanently suspended more than two years ago without warning. Although Elon Musk’s amnesty has yet to fully materialize for many of the users that were previously banned, the return of Remix News is obviously a positive development for this site.

The reality is that Remix News never had an enormous following on Twitter, even if we were seeing steady growth. Nevertheless, our ban stood out from the hundreds of thousands, and perhaps even millions of accounts, that had been unceremoniously removed from Twitter over the years. While many of these victims were anonymous but influential accounts, internet personalities, political commentators, and dissidents, there were very few news outlets or organizations that were outright banned.

Far-Left Activists Break Into Home of French Elderly Couple and Claim it as Shelter for Asylum Seekers

Far-left activists in France took radical action on Saturday by breaking into and occupying a private residence in order to house asylum seekers.

Members of the Maison du Peuple (People’s House) organization requisitioned the property near to the Grand-Blottereau park in the western city of Nantes, claiming they had been left with no other option after authorities failed to respond to their concerns about the shortage of temporary housing available to asylum seekers.

The private residence belongs to an elderly couple, aged 87 and 89 years old, who are currently under guardianship in a care home, and is therefore unoccupied.

Former Vatican Chief Decries Pope Francis’ Intolerance of the Latin Mass

ROME — German Cardinal Gerhard Müller, the former head of the Vatican’s doctrinal office (CDF), has criticized Pope Francis for his “imprudence” in clamping down on the Traditional Latin Mass.

By revoking broad faculties to celebrate the older rite with his letter Traditionis Custodes, Pope Francis “has committed an imprudence, because he has not taken into account some sensitivities within the Church, those of the faithful attached to the ancient liturgy,” Cardinal Müller said in an interview with Italian media this weekend.

Germany: Confidence in Scholz, State Institutions in Freefall

The trust that Germans have in their political institutions is at an all-time low. The values are particularly catastrophic compared to the previous year. Within a year, the decline noted is simply huge.

Under Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), state institutions in Germany experienced an enormous loss of trust.

At 33 and 34 percent respectively, only a third of Germans still trust the institutions “Federal Chancellor” and “Federal Government”. This corresponds to a decline of 24 or 22 percentage points compared to 2022. The parliament — the German “Bundestag” — is also losing a lot of support: Only 37 percent trust it. That is a minus of 13 points.

Her Brothers of Italy party rose by 0.7 percent in polling published last month to 31.3 percent, recording its highest polling figures yet.

Australia is Concerned it Can’t Stop “Misinformation” In Private Conversations

Australia’s authorities have updated their “misinformation code” but remain unhappy that large end-to-end encrypted apps are still not “regulated” in a way they would find satisfactory.

That’s despite the fact the “update” does what various governments like the most — leave a lot of room to interpret the rules as best suits them. Thus harm is now communication that represents “serious and credible” threat. And the previous definition is that this threat must also be imminent — however, that is no longer included in the wording.

Jan Sjunnesson questioned for incitement against ethnic groups

The well-known alternative media profile Jan Sjunnesson was summoned on 15 May for questioning by the Stockholm Police’s Serious Crimes Department, where he was charged with incitement against the population. The reason was pictures he had posted on his Facebook page last September. However, the charges have now been dropped.de om föreställer påhittade böcker.
    – This is satire in which I express criticism of stoning and torture. What they wanted to get at is that I express “disdain” for Muslims or Arabs. But stoning and torture usually occur in the countries where Islam exists, and it is strange if one should not be allowed to criticize that stoning and torture occur in those countries. The question becomes completely absurd, says Jan Sjunnesson when Nya Tider asks about the incident.

Jan Sjunnesson prosecuted for incitement to hatred

    Sunday 8 Jan 2023

On March 1, Bulletin columnist Jan Sjunnesson will be charged with incitement to hatred at Varberg District Court over a Tweet about elderly robbery, Bulletin reports. Sjunnesson linked to an article on the site Omni about elderly robbery with the comment “a Roma speciality”.

    – The reason I cited Roma is because I read up on the Circa police group, which specializes in identifying elderly crimes and their perpetrators. In the book “Roma in Sweden” by Karl-Olov Arnstberg, the then head of the Circa group says that it is a type of crime that is almost always committed by Roma, Sjunnesson tells Bulletin.

Sjunnesson was reported for incitement to hatred by Tomas Åberg, project manager at the online hate group (NHG), which recently convicted journalist Joakim Lamotte of aggravated defamation.

    – NHG obviously considers it a crime that Sjunnesson committed, otherwise NHG would not have reported it. Even the prosecutor seems to be of that opinion, as he has decided to prosecute,” Åberg tells Bulletin.

The NHG has reported a total of more than 1,000 people for incitement to hatred. Around 350 people have been prosecuted and five to six percent of them have been acquitted.
