Here’s Why Disgraced Crypto Mogul Sam Bankman-Fried Hasn’t Been Arrested

Authorities are likely to conduct a lengthy investigation into former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried before potentially making an arrest for any illegal actions involving his now-bankrupt companies, legal experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The cryptocurrency exchange platform FTX, which filed bankruptcy along with the Bankman-Fried-founded trading house Alameda Research in November, has been accused of “fraud, dishonesty, incompetence, misconduct and mismanagement,” according to bankruptcy court records, but he has denied knowing of “any improper use of customer funds.” Authorities are likely “investigating a variety of possible charges” against Bankman-Fried, who has lived in the Bahamas where both companies are based, “ranging from wire fraud and bank fraud, to embezzlement and securities violations,” Loyola Marymount University Law Professor Laurie Levenson told the DCNF.

North Carolina Power Cut by Shooting Could Come Back Earlier Than Planned

RALEIGH, N.C. — Duke Energy said it expects to restore power ahead of schedule to thousands of homes in a central North Carolina county that have been without electricity for several days after an attack on the electric grid.

Duke Energy spokesman Jeff Brooks said the company expects to have power back Wednesday just before midnight in Moore County. The company had previously estimated it would be restored Thursday morning.

About 35,000 Duke energy customers were still without power Tuesday, down from more than 45,000 at the height of the outage Saturday.

The outages began shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday night after one or more people drove up to two substations, breached the gates and opened fire on them, authorities have said. Police have not released a motive or said what kind of firearm was used.

Sam Stephenson, a power delivery specialist for Duke Energy, said the company has been able to implement “rolling power-ups” in the northern part of the county, giving some customers power in 2- to 3-hour waves.

Germany: New Study Links Sudden Death Cases to COVID Shots

A new study into autopsies in Germany has identified a link between cases of sudden and unexpected deaths and Covid shots, according to reports.

German Gas Companies Sue Russia’s Gazprom for Breach of Contract

Both companies have signed gas purchase contracts with Gazprom, which has been increasingly cutting back its gas supplies to Germany following Russia’s war against Ukraine began in February. Since the end of August, the company has completely halted gas deliveries to Germany, even though the EU’s punitive measures against Russia over the war do not affect gas trade.

An egg was seen flying towards King Charles III on Tuesday, but missed the monarch who was out meeting members of the public while visiting the town of Luton for a day of engagements. The King was moved away from the site by his bodyguard but, characteristically for Charles, he continued with his tour and meeting the public outside the town hall despite the incident, the AP said.

UK: Police Shout at Drivers as Just Stop Oil Mob Shut Down Road

Police ordered a motorist to ‘pack it in’ after the exasperated lorry driver kept sounding his horn as Just Stop Oil activists blockaded a road in south London on Tuesday morning while police strolled alongside them.

The officer told the frustrated driver the sound was ‘hurting his ears’ as four vans filled with police drove behind the climate activists while they slow-marched down a busy south London road.

At around 8am, 15 Just Stop Oil activists walked onto the road at the Bricklayers Arms roundabout near the Old Kent Road, much to the chagrin of motorists who were forced to crawl behind the group as rush-hour traffic came to a standstill.

An exasperated van driver was seen sticking his two fingers up at protesters while another furious motorist told police they ‘need to get a backbone’.

With No Means to Store Gas for Itself, UK Energy Exports to Europe Surge as Cold Snap Bites

The United Kingdom has one of the smallest bunkered reserves of natural gas — burnt to produce heat and electricity — in Europe, yet it is shipping volumes of the resource abroad at levels not seen for years as a cold snap arrives.

Natural gas is being shipped to the continent through an ‘interconnector’ — an underwater gas pipe to Belgium — at the highest rate since 2016, with traders taking advantage of lower gas prices in the United Kingdom and higher in Europe to meet demand, Bloomberg reports. The high flow is a function of the strange imbalance of gas infrastructure across Europe, where many European nations have very high gas storage facilities but limited means to import, while the UK has almost no storage but ample means to import gas from around the world by sea.

Western Media Bought Iranian ‘Propaganda’ on Disbanding of Morality Police, Experts Say

Western media’s celebration of Iran’s alleged disbanding of the morality police plays into the regime’s “propaganda” efforts to convince the West it is open to reform, experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

After Iran’s top judiciary official remarked that the Guidance Patrol, a police squad charged with enforcing the regime’s head covering laws for women, had “been put to a standstill,” Western media quickly seized the event as a victory for feminists in Iran demonstrating against restrictive modesty rules. However, the morality police remains active, suggesting many in the West fell for the regime’s ploy to restore legitimacy and deflect international pressure, experts told the DCNF.

Europe Puts Scruples Aside, Imports Record Levels of Russian Liquid Natural Gas

The European Union has seen imports of liquid natural gas from Russia rise to record levels this year, sending billions to Moscow while waxing poetic about their support of Ukraine.

Though shipments of natural gas sent via pipelines from Russia to Europe have fallen sharply since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February, Europe has ironically turned to Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG), a chilled form of the gas that can be shipped in sea tankers, to make up the difference.

Putin Holds Council Meeting on Domestic Security Following 3 Airbase ‘Explosions’

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday called a meeting with his security council to discuss the country’s domestic defenses after three airbases saw “explosions” this week.

The Kremlin did not release details of the meeting but said that Russian officials looked to shore up the nation’s “internal security.”

The meeting appeared to take place just hours after a third airbase was struck in the Russian city of Kursk north of the Ukrainian border and one day after explosions were reported at two separate airbases hundreds of miles inside Russian territory.

The regional governor of Kursk said an oil storage tank had been set ablaze, but no casualties have yet been reported, according to Reuters.

Russia Claims Kyiv Hit Its Air Bases, Fires More Missiles

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian drones struck two air bases deep inside Russian territory, the Kremlin said Monday, shortly before Russian forces unleashed a massive missile barrage in Ukraine that struck homes and buildings and killed civilians.

The unprecedented attack in Russia threatened a major escalation of the nine-month war because it hit an airfield housing bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons. President Vladimir Putin has threatened to use all available means to defend his land, a remark many have interpreted to include nuclear weapons.

Russia has been launching almost weekly bombardments of Ukraine in retaliation for another bold attack — the Oct. 8 truck bombing of a vital bridge linking its mainland to the Crimean Peninsula.

On Monday, Putin tried to show his country could bounce back from that embarrassment by driving a car across the partially repaired bridge. Putin personally opened the 19-kilometer (12-mile) bridge in 2018 as part of an expensive effort to solidify his claim on Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014.

US Secretly Modified HIMARS Missile Systems Send to Ukraine So They Couldn’t Fire Into Russia

The United States altered the software within the HIMARS rocket launchers it sent to Ukraine to ensure they were incapable of firing long-range missiles into Russian territory, U.S. officials reportedly told the Wall Street Journal.

According to the U.S. publication citing Washington sources, the United States has supplied 20 HIMARS rocket launchers to the Ukrainian army since June, which included an arms supply of satellite-guided rockets with a 80-kilometer range giving Ukraine ample ammunition to defend its borders and keep Russian forces present in the east of the country from encroaching further into Ukraine’s sovereign territory.

However, the Pentagon modified the launchers, activating a feature that prevents their use with longer-range missiles, limiting the ability of Ukrainian forces to fire directly into Russia.

Indonesia Bans Sex Outside of Marriage

The Parliament of Indonesia passed legislation Tuesday fulfilling the nation’s years-long effort to outlaw premarital sex and defamation against the president.

Parliament attempted to pass a similar piece of legislation in 2019, but was buried by President Joko Widodo after thousands of citizens protested in the streets in opposition to the bill, The New York Times reported. The government suddenly announced Nov. 30 that a draft of the law was headed for a vote for ratification.

The new law could force unmarried couples to be jailed for six months or be fined 10 million rupiah ($710), even if they are cohabited, according to The New York Times. Police can make an arrest if a close family member files a report.

Chinese Operatives Ran a Massive TikTok Campaign to Help Dems in the Midterm Elections: Report

TikTok accounts operating as voices of Chinese state media promoted messages that appeared to denigrate Republican candidates and favor Democratic ones ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, according to a Forbes investigation.

While the Chinese-owned social media app has verbally affirmed the need to crack down on election disinformation and foreign interference, several news-oriented accounts failed to disclose their affiliation with Chinese Communist Party (CCP) state-owned media on the platform, Forbes found. The accounts racked up tens of millions views on posts that covered divisive topics, such as abortion and race, as well as critical clips that mostly targeted Republican candidates ahead of the 2022 midterms.

Fauci Says He Dismissed Lab Leak Theory to Placate China

In the early days of the pandemic, Dr. Anthony Fauci often dismissed the theory that the coronavirus came from a biological lab in China. He testified last week his reluctance was out of fear that speculation about the virus origins would “increase tensions” with China.

Fauci’s comments came during a seven-hour deposition at the center of a lawsuit filed by the attorneys general of Missouri and Louisiana against the Biden administration. Fauci stated throughout the deposition that he was troubled by “wild speculation and allegations” that the Chinese government either deliberately or accidentally leaked the virus from a biological lab in Wuhan. He also said he was “afraid” that “blaming the Chinese” for the outbreak would “increase tensions and reduce cooperation” with Beijing to prevent future pandemics.

A top official at Dr. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) was “very impressed” by how China responded to the COVID-19 outbreak after a 2020 visit to Beijing, China, according to Fauci’s Nov. 23 deposition.

A transcript of the seven-hour deposition, released Wednesday by Republican Attorney General Eric Schmitt of Missouri, who is leading the deposition alongside Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry of Louisiana, confirmed that H. Clifford Lane, NIAID Deputy Director for Clinical Research and Special Projects, admired how China managed the virus. Lane made the observation during a World Health Organization expedition in February 2020 to plan a response to the COVID-19 outbreak, according to a 2020 NIAID article titled “NIAID’s Lane Discusses WHO COVID-19 Mission To China.”

Gothenburg Wants to Settle Migrants in Affluent Neighbourhoods

In Sweden’s second-largest city (population just under 600 000), the new city government of Social Democrats, Left Party and Greens has announced that immigrants will no longer be settled in the suburbs, as has happened so far, but in the “prosperous areas of the city that have a high socio-economic status”.

The aim of the city leadership is to prevent the further ghettoization of individual districts, especially in the suburbs in the north-east of Gothenburg.

The “newcomers”, as immigrants are called in Sweden, would have to be accommodated in residential areas with the highest status, where a high proportion of residents speak Swedish as their mother tongue and unemployment is low. In this way, the integration of “newcomers” and their children can succeed better, according to the red-green city government.

Los Angeles County DA Gascon Issues Directives to Avoid ‘Adverse Immigration Consequences’

Prosecutors in Los Angeles County will now have to weigh the effects charging decisions will have on the immigration status of suspects and are encouraged to seek diversion programs to help avoid deportations, according to a new directive.

The policy from District Attorney George Gascon is another in a long list of progressive measures to overhaul how justice is sought in the nation’s largest district attorney’s office.

According to the policy, which was obtained by Fox News, alternatives to criminal convictions should be considered, such as avoiding charging for criminal enhancements, which can significantly increase one’s prison sentence, “that would turn an otherwise immigration neutral offense into an immigration damaging one.”
