Bahamas Securities Commission Says it Seized $3.5B in FTX Assets ‘For Safekeeping’

The Securities Commission of the Bahamas said Thursday the agency seized all digital assets under the control of FTX’s Bahamian subsidiary FTX Digital Markets Ltd. — to the tune of more than $3.5 billion — “for safekeeping” following the cryptocurrency exchange’s collapse.

The regulator said in a press release that the funds were transferred to digital wallets under its exclusive control on Nov. 12, the day after FTX filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, after determining “there was a significant risk of imminent dissipation” of the assets under FTXDM’s control based on information disgraced founder Sam Bankman-Fried provided concerning cyberattacks on the system.

28-Year-Old Suspect in Slayings of Idaho College Students Arrested in Pennsylvania

Authorities in Pennsylvania arrested a suspect in the killings of four University of Idaho students who were found stabbed to death in their beds more than a month ago, Moscow Police Chief James Fry said Friday.

The killings initially mystified law enforcement and shook the small town of Moscow, Idaho, a farming community of about 25,000 people that had not had a murder for five years. Fears of a repeat attack prompted nearly half of the University of Idaho’s over 11,000 students to leave the city and switch to online classes.

Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, was arrested early Friday morning by the Pennsylvania State Police at a home in Chestnuthill Township, authorities said. Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said investigators believe Kohberger broke into the students’ home “with the intent to commit murder.”

He is being held for extradition to Idaho on a warrant for first degree murder, according to arrest paperwork filed in Monroe County Court. An extradition hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. He is also charged with felony burglary in Idaho, Thompson said.

Kohberger is a PhD student in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University, which is a short drive across the state line from the University of Idaho.

‘A Gut Punch’: Buffalo Residents Recall Stories of Survival as Blizzard Recovery Reaches New Milestone

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dump trucks continue to carry small mountains of snow through Buffalo a week after a blizzard crippled the western New York area, dropping more than 4 feet of snow in some places and claiming the lives of at least 39 people.

After six days, Erie County and Buffalo officials lifted the travel ban in Buffalo early Thursday morning thanks to crews who were able to clear enough roads throughout the city.

Buffalo residents are still asked only to venture out for essential needs as hundreds of high-lift vehicles and dump trucks continue to clear streets of snow. After being stuck inside for days, however, people are in need of supplies and trying to get back to any notion of normalcy.

Big Brother, Big Tech: Feds Use Facebook to Study COVID Vaccine, Testing, And Mask Messaging

Legislation that would use federal agencies to “nudge” social media platforms to reduce the spread of “harmful content” isn’t going anywhere in the waning days of the 117th Congress.

As evidenced by the ongoing release of the “Twitter Files,” however, that’s no impediment to the government — and the research universities that so heavily depend on federal funding — enlisting Big Tech to promote favored narratives and throttle competing arguments on contentious topics.

Federal agencies and U.S. universities together have funded or sponsored a dozen studies mentioning Facebook and COVID-19, according to the National Institutes of Health’s ClinicalTrials.gov database.

NYT Op-Ed: “Privacy at All Costs” is “Dangerous, “ Use of Signal and Similar Tools “Puts Us All at Risk”

Throughout 2022, there were many high-profile stories about warrantless surveillance and data leaks. Not only did these stories highlight the risks of third parties getting unauthorized access to people’s personal data but they also demonstrated the importance of privacy-preserving technologies such as end-to-end encryption which can prevent third parties from accessing this data.

But in a recent New York Times (NYT) op-ed, author and government adviser Reid Blackman argues that end-to-end encrypted messaging app Signal’s commitment to privacy is “morally dangerous” and suggests that people don’t need to worry about broad surveillance or unauthorized access to their data.

Study: Vax Mandates Are ‘Unethical’ & Not ‘Science-Based’

A new study has found that college-based vaccine mandates are “unethical” and are not “science-based.”

A group of prominent research scientists conducted a risk-benefit analysis of the COVID-19 vaccine boosters for young adults.

The study was launched as a response to the controversial continuation of mandates at universities and colleges across the nation.

The researchers hoped the results from their study would go some way to filling a gap the CDC and FDA refuse to fill.

In a paper published by the British Medical Journal, researchers concluded the mandates are not a science-based policy.

They discovered that the vaccines are failing to prevent infection and transmission and warned that the risks of severe side effects outweigh any potential benefit.

The researchers included Dr. Marty A Makary of Johns Hopkins University, Tracy Beth Høeg, Vinay Prasad, and Kevin Bardosh of the University of Florida, according to WND.

Elon’s Transparency Policy Shows Nobody Reads the CBC

Twitter’s new transparency policy that shows how many people view each tweet has exposed the CBC as having laughably low view counts given its high follower count.

CBC’s main twitter account has 3.4 million followers — yet it averages less than 100,000 views on each of its tweets. Assuming a tweet receives 75 thousand views, that’s about 2% of CBC’s followers who actually see what the state-broadcaster tweets.

Top German General Calls for an End to Ukraine War

Ganser is a retired brigadier general and was, among other things, deputy head of the military policy department in the Federal Ministry of Defense and military policy advisor to the German Permanent Representative to NATO. Born in 1948, he worked in the command staff of the German armed forces from 1992.

He argued for a cessation of hostilities: “Military-political reason speaks for an early end to this costly war”. A victory for Kiev is unrealistic, he said After Moscow’s initial failures in Ukraine, some observers “overreacted” and overestimated Ukraine’s chances of victory.

Caroline Glick: Where the Netanyahu Government Differs From Its Predecessors

With the swearing-in of the latest Netanyahu government, Israel will embark on a new course in foreign policy—and just in time. For the past year-and-a-half of the Bennett-Lapid-Gantz government, Israel’s foreign policy ceased to be independent. In the days and weeks before Naftali Bennett, Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz formed their coalition, they committed themselves to a policy of “no surprises” for the Biden administration. The promise, which became the basis for the government’s actions in the months that followed, meant that under their stewardship, Israel subordinated its foreign policy to the White House. It took no action of which the administration disapproved and either supported every administration policy or avoided taking any steps to substantively undermine President Joe Biden’s actions in the region, whether in relation to Iran or the Palestinians, Saudi Arabia or Lebanon or elsewhere.

As the Biden administration aggressively pursued its strategy of realigning the U.S. away from Israel and the Sunni Arab states by legitimizing Iran’s nuclear weapons program and enriching the regime through nuclear diplomacy, Israel stood on the sidelines. It occasionally clucked its opposition to the contents of the deal being negotiated, but it supported the Biden administration’s slavish, indeed fanatical commitment to strategic appeasement of Iran in exchange for temporary and substantively insignificant nuclear concessions on Iran’s part…

Belarus Says it Downed Ukraine Air Defence Missile

Belarus has summoned the Ukrainian ambassador, saying it shot down a Ukrainian air defence missile in Belarusian territory.

It happened on Thursday, during one of Russia’s heaviest aerial onslaughts against Ukraine so far.

Footage from Belarusian state television appeared to show missile debris in a field.

A Ukrainian military spokesman said the incident was “the result of air defence”.

Belarus — a key ally of Russia — has called on Kyiv to carry out a full investigation after the S-300 rocket came down near the border.

Kirill Kazantsev, an officer with Belarusian missile defence forces, has said they are considering two scenarios.

“The first is an accidental launch [by Ukraine] of the air defence missile because of the low training level of the military crew or missile malfunction. The second is a deliberate provocation by the Ukrainian military forces.”

It is the first time Belarus has shot down a Ukraine missile since the Russian invasion in February.

Swiss National Referendum Will Limit Population to 10 Million Through Strict Immigration Control to Save Environment

The most popular party in Switzerland, the Swiss People’s Part (SVP), known for its agrarian roots and opposition to mass immigration, is set to pursue a referendum calling for the renegotiation of international treaties, or even their complete abandonment, if the Swiss population hits 10 million.

The proposed referendum comes at a time when Europe increasingly faces environmental catastrophe, a housing crisis, and huge strains on public resources due to soaring immigration levels. Many European nations are among the most densely populated nations in the world and life in them is only expected to become more crowded in the near future unless dramatic action is taken. Switzerland is no exception.

“Our country is cracking in every corner. We are going through the debacles of recent years. If we don’t intervene, we will be overtaken by events,” said Marcel Dettling, the SVP’s campaign manager.

Dettling warns that economic migration remains high, especially from groups known for their difficulty integrating into Switzerland, a fact highlighted by Switzerland’s alarming prison population data.

Swiss Reject ‘Non-Binary’ Gender Dictates

The Confederates will continue to only have “man” and “woman” in official documents in the future. At the last Federal Council meeting of the year, the government in Bern passed a report on the “Introduction of a third gender”, in which it rejected gender ideology.

The Federal Council had come to the conclusion that the social prerequisites for an official third gender were not given. The “binary” gender model is therefore still firmly anchored in Switzerland. In the debate, many parliamentarians referred to the “National Ethics Committee”. This body had already come to the same conclusion in a report in 2020.

In addition to “female” and “male”, there should be no “diverse” or “non-binary” in passports, other official documents and in the population registers for the time being.
