Biden Regulations Cost the Economy $309B in First Two Years, Up From Obama’s $204B

Regulations issued during the first two years of the Biden administration cost the economy an estimated $309 billion, which is 50% more expensive than the first two years of the Obama administration and nearly eight times as expensive as rules released in all four years of the Trump administration.

Biden’s regulatory cost reflects the 443 final rules issued through late October 2022, which required roughly 193,000,000 hours of compliance paperwork across the nation, according to federal data collected by the American Action Forum.

At the same point in time under the Obama administration, 639 final rules had been issued that cost the economy $204 billion and required 80,000,000 hours of paperwork, less than half the time required under Biden.

Czech Central Bank Predicts Average Inflation of 15.8%, Lowers GDP Growth Estimate

On Thursday, the Czech National Bank (CNB) lowered the country’s economic growth rate for this year and next, forecasting a 15.8 percent inflation rate in a signal that trouble lies ahead.

The Czech gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow by 2.2 percent this year and fall by 0.7 percent next year. In its previous August forecast, the bank had anticipated growth of 2.3 percent this year and 1.1 percent next year. CNB Governor Ales Michl delivered the new estimates at a press conference following the meeting of the bank board.

Last year, Czech GDP grew by 3.3 percent.

Jobs Report: U.S. Payrolls Grew by 261,000 in October, Unemployment Rate Rises to 3.7%

September’s payroll reading was also upwardly revised to 315,000 from 263,000 previously reported.

Employment data has moderated in recent months, but hiring remained strong in October despite efforts by the Federal Reserve to tamp down an extraordinarily tight labor market that has placed upward pressure on wages and contributed to decades-high inflation.

“The bottom line here is that the labor market is softening, but has not yet reached the point where the data are screaming at the Fed to stop tightening,” Pantheon Macroeconomics Chief Economist Ian Shepherdson wrote in a note. “But if these trends continue, as we expect, markets will start to push the Fed — and especially Chair Powell — to rethink the idea of continued hikes next year.”

Price Rises in Estonia Are the Highest in the EU. So What’s it Like Going Food Shopping?

The cost of living crisis, and rising energy prices, are hitting families across Europe hard.

Estonia in particular is experiencing the highest levels of inflation in the eurozone, at 22.4% in October compared to 6.8% just one year ago — although there are some hopeful signs this will ease slightly.

So what’s it like for Estonians who have to balance their budgets, cope with the fast-rising prices, and yet still somehow provide food, clothes and heat for their children with winter rapidly approaching?

We talked with two families, and an Estonian supermarket chain, to hear their stories.

Update (1045ET): In a Friday tweet shortly ahead of the planned 9am mass layoffs, Musk says that advertisers are bailing due to pressure from activists, which has led to a ‘massive drop in revenue’ despite no changes to the company’s content moderation.

“We did everything we could to appease the activists,” Musk added.

On Thursday we noted that several brands have ‘paused’ advertising campaigns with Twitter — including food giant General Mills, Oreo maker Mondelez, pandemic profiteers Pfizer and Volkswagen’s Audi.

Crossed Out: MSNBC Drops Tiffany Cross Amid Slew of Contentious On-Air Statements

MSNBC anchor Tiffany Cross is abruptly leaving the network under unclear circumstances.

Cross’s show, which ran on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon ET, has been canceled. The network remained quiet on her departure, though multiple outlets have pointed to her string of controversial statements while on air. In her place, rotating anchors will fill the timeslot until a replacement is found, per Variety.

The New York Post speculated that a recent TV appearance during which she derided the state of Florida may have been the catalyst for her ouster.

“Florida literally looks like the d**k of the country, so let’s get rid of Florida,” Cross said Thursday on “Hell of a Week with Charlamagne.” “Let’s castrate Florida.” Cross was responding to a question about states the Democrats could survive losing in the midterm elections.

Doctors Sue Newsom, California Medical Board for Law Regulating COVID-19 Advice

A group of California physicians filed a lawsuit against Gov. Gavin Newsom and the state’s medical board over a new law that will regulate what doctors can tell patients about COVID-19 risks and treatments.

A.B. 2098 will make it “unprofessional conduct” for physicians or surgeons to provide their patients “false information” related to COVID-19, including vaccines, “that is contradicted by “contemporary scientific consensus contrary to the standard of care.” The legislation discriminates against alternative viewpoints and creates “a severe chilling effect,” contradicting the First Amendment, the New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA)-backed lawsuit contends.

The lawsuit’s plaintiffs, Drs. Tracy Høeg, Ram Duriseti Aaron Kheriaty, Pete Mazolewski and Azadeh Khatibi, are all board-licensed physicians and surgeons. Newsom signed the law Sept. 30, and it has been scheduled to be effective Jan. 1, 2023.

Elon Musk Defends Twitter Layoffs, Says Company Lost More Than $4m Per Day, Employees Got Severance Packages

Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk defended his severe cost-cutting efforts that resulted in layoffs across the company Friday by claiming the social media platform was losing more than $4 million per day and that impacted employees were given generous severance packages.

“Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day,” Musk tweeted. “Everyone exited was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50% more than legally required.”

The layoffs began with a letter to employees saying about half of the company’s 7,500-person workforce would be losing their jobs. The move is the latest shakeup since Musk finalized the $44 billion purchase of the California-based platform.

Facebook Allegedly Gives the FBI Users’ Info Without Their Consent

UPDATE: This piece has been updated to reflect a statement from the FBI.

The FBI allegedly accepts private user information with “a partisan focus” from Facebook without users’ permission, avoiding the normal legal process the bureau would require to seek such information on its own, a new report from House Judiciary Committee Republicans claims.

The alleged information transfer between Facebook and the FBI is part of a program likely named “OperationBronze Griffin,” according to a report released Friday. Facebook allegedly gives the bureau data “tending only to concern users from one side of the political spectrum,” according to whistleblower intelligence.

Judge Blocks New York Ban on Firearms in Churches

A federal judge has blocked New York state’s ban on carrying firearms in churches, asserting that it violates the Second Amendment and Supreme Court precedent.

“The State’s exclusion is, instead, inconsistent with the Nation’s historical traditions, impermissibly infringing on the right to keep and bear arms in public for self-defense,” wrote Judge John L. Sinatra Jr in a Thursday ruling, per the Washington Times.

A pair of Baptist pastors, who say the previously carried firearms in the church for self-defense had brought the suit.

Pregnant Chicago Woman Reportedly Stabbed Father-to-be to Death After Baby Shower for Using the Microwave

A pregnant Chicago woman has been charged with murder after cops say she stabbed the father-to-be to death at her baby shower, reportedly for using the microwave to heat up some food.

Keshia Golden, at eight months pregnant, says she was defending herself against her boyfriend, Calvin Sidney, 29, when she stabbed him in the early morning hours of October 22.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the fight happened after the couple and other relatives returned to her Austin apartment, following the celebration on the Saturday night beforehand.

Prosecutors said the argument escalated over the use of the microwave, prompting Golden, 33, to knock a plate out of the hands of Sidney, who then shoved her into the counter in return.

Sidney’s uncle reportedly attempted to separate the two before Sidney went to one of the bedrooms, where Golden allegedly followed with a knife and stabbed him in the leg, leaving him mortally wounded after the knife punctured his femoral artery.

Golden then dropped the knife and exited the apartment, according to prosecutors.

Records: Man Seen Kneeling as He Fired Into Crowd During Tallahassee Mass Shooting

De’Arius Cannon, one of the three men arrested in connection with the Oct. 29 mass shooting, was seen kneeling in the McDonald’s parking lot as he was firing a handgun towards Half Time Liquors, according to court records released Thursday.

He shot at least three times across West Pensacola Street before TPD officers held “him at gunpoint” and gave “him verbal commands to halt his actions and place the weapon upon the ground,” a probable cause affidavit said.

Cannon, 30, got up and ran toward the parking lot of BAJAS nightclub, where officers were “addressing crowd control issues” just before gunfire rang out at Half Time Liquors across the street.

“Detectives have determined that (two officers) discharged their sidearms, striking and wounding (Cannon),” read an affidavit. “The same officers … rendered aid to him.”

Austria Looks to Ban Oil and Coal Heaters From 2023

By Michael Kern of OilPrice.com

Austria’s government is looking to ban the use of new fossil fuel heaters as of next year and replace very old oil and coal heaters with climate-friendly options by 2025, Euractiv reports.

Austria, like the other EU countries, aims to cut its reliance on Russian gas as soon as possible. The government says that abandoning Russian gas should happen simultaneously with adopting renewable heat options.

Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Austria received around 80% of the natural gas it consumed from Russia. As of August, this high dependence on Russian gas flows had dropped to below 50%, the government said.

Pragmatic Patriots Push Back on EU Sanctions

It appears that EU sanctions, which increasingly boomerang against Europeans, have not been not set in stone. While some politicians make a dogma out of it, other EU countries counteract the Brussels edicts.

The Dutch government, it has now been leaked, officially supports the sanctions — but makes numerous exceptions. It confirmed a total of 91 exemptions from the sanctions regime, thereby benefiting Dutch companies. The Dutch television news service RTL Nieuws researched this after talks with the various ministries.

The exceptions relate to numerous domestic companies, whose names the ministries keep secret. They also remain silent about the value of transactions exempt from sanctions and which sectors of the economy are affected.

‘There is No Racism Against Whites’ — Black Artist Collective Occupies Theater in Switzerland, Demands Non-White Theater

A group of Black artists and actors in Switzerland had partially occupied parts of the Gessnerallee theater in Zurich for weeks, with the participants accusing the theater of racism despite it being run by a Black woman and providing the group with a free space for rehearsals for nearly a year.

The group is now making racist claims against White people all while collecting hundreds of thousands of Swiss francs to fund their theater project.

The squatters placed banners on the north wing of the theater, with the artists calling for a non-White theater house that will serve as a “safe space” for only Black, indigenous people and other people of color (BIPOC). It is unclear what the group means by “indigenous,” as the indigenous people of Switzerland are ethnic White Europeans.

Transition to Electric Cars Projected to Cost EU Over Half a Million Jobs

The EU’s transition to electric cars may lead to a loss of 600,000 jobs across the bloc, the commissioner for the internal market, Thierry Breton, has warned.

The official was commenting on the bloc’s plan to require carmakers to achieve a 100% cut in carbon dioxide emissions by 2035, which would effectively ban the sale of new petrol— and diesel-fueled cars in the bloc.

“The European automotive sector employs 12.7 million people in one way or another, which represents 6.6% of all employment in the EU. The transition to electric cars will destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs, up to 600,000 across the EU,” Breton said in an interview with the Corriere della Sera news outlet, published on Friday.

Putin Issues Chilling Warning on Kherson

Vladimir Putin has called on Russian officials to forcibly evacuate residents of Russia-occupied Kherson to safety, but there was confusion in the city this evening, as a curfew appeared to be ordered and then rescinded.

“Those who still live in Kherson should certainly be removed from the area of the most dangerous hostilities because civilians should not suffer from shelling, from attacks, counter-attacks or something like that,” Mr Putin told Russian news agencies in Moscow on Friday.

The Russian president’s remarks following increasing reports from Kherson that the local puppet government is forcing local residents to leave the city for Crimea to the south-east.

Ukrainian authorities have insisted they do not believe the Russians are voluntarily retreating from Kherson, suspecting this might be a ruse to lure Ukrainian troops.

On Friday evening, Moscow-installed authorities backtracked shortly after declaring a “round-the-clock curfew” as a Ukrainian counter-offensive nears the southern city.

“In the city of Kherson there are absolutely no restrictions that would limit the life of the city,” Moscow-installed official Kirill Stremousov said on Telegram, after a first message announcing a curfew on the same channel was edited out.

US, EU, And UK Pour Over €70 Billion of Taxpayers’ Money Into Ukraine, But Doubts Are Growing

With winter approaching and the energy crisis worsening, some EU member states need to fundamentally reassess their situation, and the renewed call to allocate tremendous sums of money to Ukraine is beginning to be overridden by the visible signs of social and political crises within their own borders.

Most importantly, fewer and fewer people believe it is realistic that Ukraine will ever repay even part of the loans beyond its grant aid. With Kyiv holding a bottomless bag in front of it, demanding billions and billions more with no end in sight, as cruel as it sounds, some are quietly pondering euthanasia.

  1. UK: Multiple sexual assaults against minors in London Refugee Hotel-These disgusting individuals should be castrated and sent back to their country of origin. It is becoming increasingly incomprehensible to understand the United Kingdom’s government’s attitude/policy towards what undoubtedly has to be termed an invasion by illegal immigrants. The public reaction to this invasion is being stretched like a fine wire which will soon break- and the result will be very hard for the authorities to contain.

    • It is because you Brits have gotten too civilized for your own good that you won’t even bloody defend yourselves from these GD 3rd world savages, if you ain’t armed and ready for what is coming you are sheep for the slaughter, and you can forget about the sheepdogs defending you, they will have their own problems or they retired to someplace else, so become the Wolf or be slaughtered, and damn the law, because it ain’t there to help you, that time has come and bloody gone.

  2. Scotland: ‘Transgender’ Criminal Becomes First Person to Appear as Both a Man and Woman in Court- What a load of nonsense-if the person has a penis, then its a man if not then it’s a woman-Cannot be both, and therefore should only appear in court as a Male or a Female.
This gender farce is causing so much harm to our society.

    • I dont want to burst your bubble, but there is a very tiny, tiny amount of people who are born with a penis and breasts (but no vagina).

But as I said: The number is very, very low, but they exist.
