34-Year-Old Detroit Man Charged With Murder in Dearborn Hampton Inn Shooting

A 34-year-old Detroit man has been charged with multiple felonies, including murder, in Thursday’s fatal shooting of a Dearborn hotel clerk.

Reichard Lee Williams-Lewis was arraigned Sunday Sunday in 19th District Court in Dearborn on one count of premeditated first-degree murder, one count of assault with intent to murder, two counts of felonious assault, one count of resisting and obstructing a police officer, and five counts of felony firearm. Thursday’s incident resulted in the death of a 55-year-old Riverview man and injuries to a 21-year-old female hotel employee.

On Thursday, traffic in the city’s west downtown was stopped as law enforcement officials negotiated with Williams-Lewis, who was barricaded on the hotel’s third floor, for seven hours. Responding officers found that Williams-Lewis had fired rounds at a hotel clerk in the lobby then went up to the third floor, where he remained holed up until he surrendered to authorities at around 8:30 p.m.

“The evidence is this case is alarming,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement Sunday. “We have long learned that no place is sacred when it comes to gun violence. Not churches, not movie theaters, not grocery stores or hotels. I would like to pose a question to every legislator in this state. When is enough enough? Please let me know.”

New York Rep. Lee Zeldin Says 2 People Shot Outside His Home

He said the two people who were shot were found under his porch and in the bushes in front of his house.

NEW YORK — New York congressman and Republican candidate for governor Lee Zeldin says his family is safe after two strangers were shot outside his Long Island home on Sunday.

Zeldin said in a statement that he does not know the identities of the two people who were shot but that they were found under his porch and in the bushes in front of his home in Shirley, New York. The congressman and his wife were not at home at the time of the shooting but their teenage daughters were in the home and heard gunshots and screaming, he said in the statement released by his office.

Zeldin said his 16-year-old daughters locked themselves in a bathroom and called 911. The family is shaken but OK, he said. Zeldin and his wife were returning from a parade in the Bronx when the shooting occurred.

He said police officers were at his home investigating Sunday evening and were looking over the home’s security cameras. The two people who were shot were taken to local hospitals, he said.

The Suffolk County Police Department issued a brief statement saying it was investigating the shooting, which appeared to have no connection to Zeldin’s family. Police had no information to release about who fired the shots or who first found the two people shot, a spokeswoman said.

Zeldin, who is running against Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul, has made rising crime rates and violent crime a focus of his campaign. He has called for the state’s bail laws to be toughened, among other measures.

“Like so many New Yorkers, crime has literally made its way to our front door,” Zeldin said Sunday.

He said later in a post on Twitter that his daughters were at the kitchen table when the shooting occurred and that one of the bullets was found 30 feet away from them.

It’s the second scare he’s had in several months. In July, he was assaulted while campaigning in upstate New York when a man approached him onstage and thrust a sharp object near his head and neck. He was uninjured and the man was arrested.

Orthodox Jews Sue New York Over Gun Law Banning Concealed Carry in Houses of Worship

A group of Orthodox Jews in New York City are suing the state’s new law banning carrying a firearm in a house of worship and arguing that it essentially makes them “sitting ducks.”

The Jewish congregation in Midwood, Brooklyn, in a suit organized by the New York State Jewish Gun Club in Rockland County, filed the lawsuit on September 29 objecting to the state’s Concealed Carry Improvement Act signed by New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul, the New York Post reported.

The legislation banned concealed-carry permit holders from carrying weapons into “sensitive locations” that includes “places of worship or religious observation” which the lawsuit alleges puts Jewish synagogue-goers at risk.

Austrian President Secures Re-Election With Clear Win, Avoiding Runoff

VIENNA, Oct 9 — Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen secured a second six-year term in office on Sunday by winning a clear majority of votes in an election to avoid a runoff, according to projections based on almost all votes cast except postal ballots.

The 78-year-old former leader of the Greens has garnered broad popularity by projecting calm during times of national crisis, including the collapse of the government in 2019 and the resignation of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz a year ago over corruption allegations that Kurz denies.

The far-right Freedom Party (FPO) was the only party in parliament to field a candidate against Van der Bellen, who won a much tighter race against an FPO opponent in 2016. Grandees from all other parties in parliament backed the president.

The Austrian president performs a largely ceremonial role, but also has sweeping powers that mean overseeing periods of transition and turbulence.

Ukraine War: Key Developments You Need to Know Today

1. US reassures Ukraine of continued security assistance

The White House said on Sunday it would continue to arm Ukraine, while declining to comment on an explosion that damaged Russia’s Crimea bridge.

“We don’t really have anything more to add to the reports about the explosion on the bridge,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters.

“What I can tell you is that Mr. Putin started this war, and Mr. Putin could end it today, simply by moving his troops out of the country.”

Kirby said both sides needed to negotiate an end to the war but that the Russian president had shown no interest in doing so.

“Quite the contrary,” he added. “By calling up hundreds of thousands of reservists, by politically annexing, or at least trying to annex four areas of Ukraine, he has shown every indication that he is doubling down.”

South Africa May Soon Take Land Without Compensation

Authored by Nathan Worcester via The Epoch Times

South Africa’s National Assembly passed a bill on Sept. 28 that would allow the government to seize land without paying the owners, a practice known as ‘expropriation without compensation.’

“This thing is emotional. We cannot deny it,” said South African farmer Herman J. Roos in a Sept. 29 message to The Epoch Times.

He noted that the law would not change Article 25 of South Africa’s constitution—a more radical move that the ruling African National Congress (ANC) has frequently advocated.

The Expropriation Bill, the latest gesture toward land reform in a racially and economically divided nation, still awaits approval from the National Council of Provinces.

Federal Judge Rules Biden’s LGBTQ+ Employee Protections Go Too Far

A federal judge in Texas ruled that the Biden administration’s policies that allow LGBTQ+ people to use the bathroom of their gender identity went too far.

A 2021 guidance from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission aimed to protect LGBTQ+ employees from workplace discrimination and allow them to use whatever pronouns and bathroom corresponded with their gender identity, The Daily Caller reported.

U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk ruled that this guidance went too far and said that while Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects the LGBTQ+ community from discriminatory hiring practices, that doesn’t necessarily include “all correlated conduct,” such as bathroom and pronoun use.

These Are the World’s Most-Surveilled Cities

This may come as a surprise, but it wasn’t until 2007 that the global urban population overtook the rural population. At that time, the two groups were split nearly 50/50, with around 3.3 billion people apiece.

Today, the percentage of people living in urban areas has grown to over 55%, and is expected to reach 68% by 2050. Due to this trend, many of the world’s largest cities have become home to tens of millions of people.

In response to such incredible density, governments, businesses, and households have installed countless security cameras for various purposes including crime protection. To grasp the scale of this surveillance, Visual Capitalist’s Marcu Lu used data from a recent report by Comparitech to visualize the most surveilled cities in the world.

  1. When will the occupied countries shake off this “American” presence on their soil?

  2. Did you see what Putin did?
And this is because the ideologists of the Kremlin have suicidal-apocalyptic thinking. I read the news from Europe, I read the Canadian writer Douglas Copeland – there is also suicidal-apocalyptic thinking.

I don’t have suicidal-apocalyptic thinking. What am I doing among all these people? Recently, I came to the conclusion that I am still a pagan (I read Epictetus). I believe that some divinity gave me life.
Why did some motherf***rs think they have the right to take her away from me?
    I don’t understand anything!

  3. When Russia bombs the bridge over the Dniester estuary, Putin doesn’t call this terrorism.

When Russia bombs kids’ playgrounds, pedestrian bridges, museums and the German consulate (just today), Putin doesn’t call this terrorism.

Only when a bridge crucial for his military aggression, illegally built on Ukrainian territory gets bombed, Putin calls this terrorism.

Sounds like Putin can dish it out, but cam’t take it.
