Czechs Are Saving on Energy, Food, And Are Seeking Second Jobs, But Don’t Want to Cut Back on Alcohol, Polling Finds

Czechs are attempting to save on energy by using less heating and lighting at the beginning of the heating season, according to the latest poll.

An Edenred survey revealed the economic crisis and sharply rising energy prices are forcing two-thirds of Czechs to make a conscious effort to consume less gas and electricity, while a further consequence to spiraling inflation has been a significant reduction in restaurant visits.

Respondents are also actively combating less income by seeking out part-time jobs, and some people are even looking for side jobs.

ECB Hikes 75bps as Expected and Will “Raise Further” Deciding “Meeting-by-Meeting”, Changes TLTRO Terms

As expected (and previewed), moments ago the ECB hiked rates by 75bps, pushing the Deposit rate to 1.50%, the highest since 2008. The Refi rate was also raised by 75bps to 2.00%, all as expected.

In keeping with the hawkish bias even as the eurozone slides into a deep recession, the ECB guided that “the Governing Council took today’s decision, and expects to raise interest rates further, to ensure the timely return of inflation to its 2% medium-term inflation target. The Governing Council will base the future policy rate path on the evolving outlook for inflation and the economy, following its meeting-by-meeting approach.”

Couple Sentenced for Shooting Boy With BB Gun; Child Forced to Eat Off Floor During Years of Torture

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) — A man and woman convicted of torturing a young boy for years were sentenced to prison Wednesday.

Danielle Pascale, 35, was sentenced to a maximum of approximately 67 years in prison, WOIO reported.

Her boyfriend, 39-year-old Donald Gunderman, was sentenced to up to 39 years for his role in the torture that lasted between January 2017 and August 2021.

The two pleaded guilty in September 2022 to charges that include kidnapping, endangering children and tampering with evidence.

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office said Gunderman and Pascale “physically assaulted, tortured and starved” the boy, who is now 10 years old, for years before their arrest in September 2021.

Investigators said the child told case workers that in some incidents, he was shot repeatedly with a BB gun, tied to a chair or made to stand up overnight without any sleep, and forced to eat food off the floor after Gunderman stepped on it.

The judge said the boy has since recovered and is doing better with schoolwork and family.

Democrats Don’t Want Federal Employees to Have to Come to Work

by Daniel Greenfield

The pandemic divided Americans into two classes: those who could work from home and those who could not. Federal government employees were members of the privileged class.

And they don’t want that to change.

During the pandemic, over 90% of the EPA, USAID, the Department of Education and, ironically, the Department of Labor, were ‘working’ online.

The utility of federal agencies could roughly be measured by whether their employees were mostly showing up to work, the Department of Defense, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs, or were permanently out to lunch like the Department of Housing and Urban Development which did the vast majority of its work over the internet.

While the pandemic is over, the privilege of the political pajama class isn’t…

Georgia Supreme Court Allows Residents to Sue to Keep Confederate Statues

The Georgia Supreme Court has ruled that residents may sue county governments for removing Confederate monuments, but people who do not live in the county do not have the standing to sue.

The court on Tuesday upheld an appeals court dismissal of lawsuits filed by Sons of Confederate Veterans against Newton and Henry counties because the group lacked standing — because its members do not live in the community.

However, the court upheld the case brought by Newton County resident T. Davis Humphries, who sued after her county voted in 2020 to remove a Confederate statue.

House Republicans Release Evidence Suggesting Hunter Biden Compromised by China

House Republicans on Thursday released evidence that Chinese intelligence may have compromised first son Hunter Biden via one associate connected to the sale of natural gas reserves to China.

“Documents obtained by Committee Republicans reveal Hunter Biden’s business partner and close personal associate was linked to the Communist Party of China (CCP), her employer before the Biden family,” said Kentucky Republican Rep. James Comer.

“JiaQi ‘Jackie’ Bao provided Hunter insight into purchasing liquefied natural gas reserves in the United States to sell to China, had access to the Biden family’s financial information, and liaised with CCP-affiliated agents on the Bidens,” Comer continued.

Bao, Comer asserts, later encouraged then-former Vice President Joe Biden to seek the nation’s highest office and advised the campaign on matters involving the communist regime.

In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Comer warned, “[c]ommittee Republicans are concerned Hunter Biden may have been compromised by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and foreign intelligence services.”

Man Justified in Killing 2 Men Outside Bucks Co. Restaurant, DA Says

After interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence and reviewing surveillance footage both inside and outside the restaurant, investigators determined the 21-year-old man’s use of deadly force was justified.

An Army reservist who shot and killed two men who were attacking him outside a Bucks County restaurant was justified, officials announced Thursday.

The 21-year-old man and a friend were returning to his car on the night of Oct. 7 after leaving the Steam Pub restaurant along the 600 block of Second Street Pike in Upper Southampton Township when a group of men gathered near his vehicle and attacked him, Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said.

Three men, later identified by police as Steven Panebianco, 30, of Bensalem, Raymond Farrell, 28, of Philadelphia, and Michael Michell, 24, of Philadelphia, repeatedly punched and struck the 21-year-old man in the face and head, knocking him to the ground, according to investigators. When the man tried to get into his car, one of the attackers pulled him out. The 21-year-old man’s friend was also attacked but managed to escape and ran to get help, investigators said.

The 21-year-old man then reached for and grabbed a gun that was between the driver’s seat and the center console of the car. Investigators said the man warned his attackers that he had a gun and told them to stop.

As the attack continued, the 21-year-old man opened fire, killing Panebianco and Farrell, investigators said.

The 21-year-old man then immediately called 911 and told dispatchers he had shot a group of men who attacked him. Upper Township Police and medics then arrived at the scene and found the bodies of Panebianco and Farrell.

A 24-year-old Philadelphia man was also shot during the incident. He was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Prosecutors Take Charge of Probe Into Alec Baldwin ‘Rust’ Shooting

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A sheriff’s department submitted on Thursday its investigative findings to prosecutors in the death of a cinematographer shot and killed by Alec Baldwin on a film set in New Mexico in October 2021.

Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office spokesman Juan Ríos said that two binders of information were turned over to the Santa Fe-based district attorney’s office, without setting forth any recommendations about possible criminal charges.

He said the case file outlines all the evidence collected, including investigative interviews and forensic analysis of physical evidence by the FBI. District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said through a spokeswoman that investigators and prosecutors will now begin a thorough review to make a timely decision about whether to bring charges, without mention of specific deadlines.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died shortly after being wounded by a gunshot during setup for a scene in the western movie “Rust” at a filmset ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe on Oct. 21, 2021. Baldwin was pointing a pistol at Hutchins when the gun went off, killing her and wounding the director, Joel Souza.

Are parents being given adequate information to make a risk versus benefit choice when deciding to vaccinate their young children against an infection that is mostly benign in this age group?

Data continues to be collected that shows the controversially authorized COVID-19 mRNA injections are risky, especially to children, as per German health data.

In a retrospective study, the authors compared electronically collected post-vaccination adverse events of Pfizer’s BNT162b2 COVID-19 mRNA vaccine with other, traditionally approved childhood vaccines in children younger than five years of age.

The observational study was neither planned nor initiated before vaccination and collected data based on a German electronic registration database.

US Urging EU to Transfer More Money to Kiev — for US Weapons

It is a remarkable business model that sheds light on the interests involved in the Ukraine war. The winner is once again the US, which can look forward to gigantic profits — and the Europeans, especially Germany, are paying the costs.

In the United States, voices have recently been raised calling for Europeans to make greater financial commitments to Ukraine. The background to this is a triangular deal, hidden from the public, which generates billions in profits flowing into the coffers of the US armaments industry. In essence, it is about the Ukraine receiving masses of weapons from the West — not for free, but on leasing terms. And the Europeans pay for the leasing costs, mostly to the US defense industry.

‘We Won’t Let Winter Bring Us Down’ — Polish Conservative Leader Rejects Fears Over Coal Shortages

China Recruiting British Fighter Pilots Through South African Firm

A video relayed on Twitter in April offers a rare glimpse into China’s very discreet recruitment of Western pilots as it prepares for a potential conflict with the United States in the Taiwan Strait. “The instructor” betrayed a French accent in the snippets of these pilots flying somewhere in China.

French daily Le Figaro was able to confirm that it was indeed a veteran former French air force officer who ejected with his Chinese “student” after a JL-10 fighter crash: A “mercenary” recruited at great cost to accelerate the training of Chinese pilots and teach them the tactics used by NATO air forces.

This aggressive recruitment campaign continues, as revealed by the exclusive testimony of a former naval aviator who was recently approached via a South African-based company known as the Test Flying Academy of South Africa. South Africa is part of the BRICS+ nations together with China.
