America’s Largest Newspaper Chain Announces Hiring Freeze, Benefit Cuts

Gannett, America’s largest newspaper chain, has announced a hiring freeze, alongside a string of other benefit reductions and cost-cutting measures intended to save the firm from financial ruin.

Employees will endure a five-day unpaid leave in December, a six-month sabbatical, and the suspension of 401k matching, according to Deadline. Employees may also opt for a four-day work week or voluntary severance. The hiring freeze will not apply to revenue or administrative positions deemed essential.

The chain has over 16,000 employees across more than 200 newspapers. It laid off 400 employees earlier this year. Revenue dropped 7% in the second quarter of 2022.

Angola Will Cut Interest Rates as Long as Inflation is Low, Says Central Bank Governor

WASHINGTON/JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) — Angola will keep cutting interest rates as long as inflation is kept low, central bank governor Jose De Lima Massano said on Wednesday, forecasting that inflation will fall to 16% this year and 9-10% by the end of 2023.

“Today we have interest rates in Angola above 20%. So those are too high. And if we have room to keep on reducing them, we’ll do it,” De Lima Massano told Reuters on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington.

Unlike most other central banks, Angola has started to lower interest rates, delivering a rate cut in September for the first time since 2019 by 50 basis points to 19.5%.

Bidenflation Strikes Again as Devastating PPI Numbers Emerge for September

Wednesday should be interesting in the White House Briefing Room as press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will undoubtedly be questioned about disturbing new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics regarding the unexpected increase of the Producer Price Index (PPI), otherwise known as the metric that measures inflation at the wholesale level.

Yep, it’s still really bad. Economists and analytical firms had predicted that the proverbial tides would begin to turn in the economy’s favor with September’s data, but instead, only brought headwinds. According to CNBC, wholesale prices rose 0.4% in September, for an annual number of 8.5%.

“Excluding food, energy and trade services, the index increased 0.4% for the month and 5.6% from a year ago,” CNBC’s report added.

Czech Inflation Soars to 18%, Highest Level Since 1993

Price growth in the Czech Republic accelerated again after year-over-year inflation reached 18 percent this September, according to data published by the Czech Statistical Office (CSÚ) on Tuesday. It is the highest level of annual inflation since December 1993.

In the year-over-year and month-over-month comparison, prices related to housing, especially energy prices, contributed the most to the growth. Consumer prices rose by 0.8 percent month-over-month in September.

In August, year-over-year price growth slowed to 17.2 percent for the first time in 13 months, but in September, price increases accelerated again.

How FEMA Put ‘Equity’ Ahead of Disaster Management

by Daniel Greenfield

“It is our lowest income communities and our communities of color that are most impacted by these extreme conditions,” Kamala Harris told the Democratic National Committee’s Women’s Leadership Forum during the recovery effort for the victims of Hurricane Ian.

“We have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity.”

That is what FEMA is already doing.

FEMA uses something called the National Risk Index to calculate the risk to any area. The NRI can then be used to determine which communities should get how much funding to cope with natural disasters. Armed with an NRI evaluation, cities, counties and towns can apply for Hazard Mitigation Assistance grants. Billions in these grants have been handed out. The trouble with the NRI is that it’s less science and more sociology. And very leftist sociology at that.

The Index is made up of three components, the actual natural hazard, “community resilience” and “social vulnerability”. The last is really affirmative action for natural disasters. As FEMA puts it, social vulnerability calculates the “susceptibility of social groups to the adverse impacts of natural hazards”.Or as the old joke has it, “Earth destroyed: minorities hardest hit.”

Except with FEMA, it’s not a joke, it’s policy…

Jury Awards $965 Million to Sandy Hook Families in Alex Jones Case

Ajury has awarded $965 million to the families of eight victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre and one first responder, resolving a lawsuit that began in 2018 over Jones’s claims the event never occurred, according to Reuters.

In December 2012, 20 students and six adults died in a mass shooting at the Newtown, Connecticut school. Jones claimed that the victims’ families and the first responders to the 2012 tragedy were “crisis actors” on multiple occasions and asserted the massacre was staged to push gun control. Jones generated hundreds of millions of impressions on social media with his false claims about the event. The plaintiffs sought a sum of $550 million to match the total views his claims received, per CNN Business. Ultimately, the jury awarded the plaintiffs nearly double the already enormous sum.

Killings in NYC Subway System Skyrocket to Highest Level in 25 Years — Even as Ridership Plummeted

The Murder Express is running local.

Killings in the New York City subway system since 2020 have skyrocketed to the highest annual levels in 25 years, even amid plummeting ridership numbers, as the city grapples with an overall spike in random violence, NYPD data show.

Since 1997, the earliest data The Post was able to access, there had never been more than five subway murders in a single year until the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020 and brought that number up to six for the first time in decades.

The next year, murders shot up to eight. So far in 2022, there have already been seven killings.

Together with 2020’s toll, that’s 21 slayings — which is more murders than the transit system saw between 2008 and 2019 combined.

Ohio Man Tells Investigators He Delivered Bomb, Tried to Kill Romantic Rival in Carroll County, Maryland

BALTIMORE — A 32-year-old man has pleaded guilty to building an explosive bomb in Ohio and then driving to Carroll County, Maryland, with the intention of killing a romantic rival, according to authorities.

Clayton McCoy intended to kill the boyfriend of the woman he liked, Department of Justice officials said.

He had known the couple for years through a live-action role-playing battle game/social club, investigators said.

McCoy confessed his feelings for the woman in October 2020 but the woman informed McCoy that she was in a relationship and did not reciprocate his feelings, according to authorities.

This rejection prompted McCoy to devise a plan to build and deliver a bomb to her boyfriend’s house, thereby eliminating his competition, Department of Justice officials said.

Investigators say that McCoy researched the necessary materials and plans for building a pipe bomb. He went to multiple stores in search of the ingredients necessary to make the required explosive powder and other bomb materials, according to authorities.

Investigators believe that McCoy tried to evade the attention of law enforcement officers by buying the items at various stores and paying in cash.

The Department of Justice on Wednesday provided details of the lengths that McCoy took to create the deadly concoction.

He made shrapnel for the bomb by using an angle grinder to saw to cut scrap metal into small, triangular pieces, according to authorities.

Then he inserted that homemade shrapnel into the metal pipe, to increase the deadliness of the pipe bomb when it exploded, Department of Justice officials said.

To mask his criminal intentions, McCoy put the bomb into a white gift box and tied a red ribbon around it, according to authorities.

Investigators say that he had rigged the gift box so that the bomb would explode whenever somebody opened it.

He even created a prototype and tested it in his yard to make sure the gift would detonate when it was opened, according to authorities.

On Oct. 30, 2020, he put the bomb in the back of a truck and drove it to the residence of his romantic rival from Ohio to Carroll County, Maryland, Department of Justice officials said.

McCoy then left the “gift” concealed in a box on his rival’s front porch. The grandfather of his rival discovered the box and put it on the kitchen counter where it remained until the rival returned home, according to authorities.

That evening around 5:30 p.m., the romantic rival noticed the box. He opened it and saw a smaller white box with a ribbon in it inside, Department of Justice officials said.

The romantic rival sent a text to his girlfriend asking if she had sent him a present and then took both boxes to his bedroom to open the gift in private, according to authorities.

As he opened the gift box, he heard a whistling/hissing sound right before the bomb detonated, Department of Justice officials said.

Investigators say the shrapnel from the bomb ripped into the romantic rival’s body, injuring his chest, legs, and other body parts. He had to go to a hospital to receive treatment for his injuries and wasn’t able to leave the medical facility until Nov. 17, 2020…

Seven Times ‘Disinformation’ Turned Out to be Just the Opposite

At the heart of the second trial to come out of Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia collusion probe is a story of disinformation.

Marc Elias, general counsel for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, testified both during a House Intelligence Committee investigation in 2017 and recently during Durham’s ongoing probe that he was the one who hired the opposition research firm Fusion GPS to dig up dirt on then-candidate Donald Trump.

Fusion GPS went on to commission former MI6 agent Christopher Steele to create the infamous “Steele dossier,” which purported to show collusion between Trump’s campaign and the Kremlin. It contained several salacious and since-debunked claims about Trump and his alleged ties to Russia.

The federal government infamously used the now-discredited dossier to obtain a warrant to surveil former Trump 2016 campaign aide Carter Page. The Justice Department later admitted the warrant application was full of misinformation and the surveillance warrant should’ve never been approved.

The primary source of the Steele dossier was Igor Danchenko, a Russian analyst who’s now on trial as part of Durham’s investigation for allegedly lying to the FBI about his own sources for the information that he provided to Steele.

Federal prosecutors allege that Danchenko, who has pleaded not guilty, fabricated and concealed his sources in conversations with the feds. The trial began in Alexandria, Va. on Tuesday.

The case highlights how potent a weapon disinformation can be in today’s political climate, where falsehoods can slip through the cracks and transform into received truth without the public noticing.

However, it works the other way as well.

Indeed, in the past few years the opposite has more often been the case: Something deemed disinformation ultimately turns out to be true.

He is virtually certain to ignore the letter and allow the heartless treatment it describes to continue. In reading their description of their treatment, the question is inescapable: How can this be happening in what was once known as the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave?

The study abstract said, “The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic was managed with sustained mass lockdowns to prevent spread of COVID-19 infection. Babies born during the early stages of the pandemic missed the opportunity of meeting a normal social circle of people outside the family home.” The study then noted, “Compared with a historical cohort, babies born into lockdown appeared to have some deficits in social communication.”

Putin’s New Ukraine Commander Dubbed “General Armageddon” For Ruthless Track Record

Following the past weeks of a rapid roll-back of Russian positions in Ukraine’s east, President Vladimir Putin sacked two of his senior military commanders and appointed General Sergey Surovikin to lead the next the next phase of the war effort in Ukraine, which began with Monday’s major escalation in airstrikes on over a dozen cities, which was a response to the Kerch Bridge bombing.

Hours Before Decrying ‘Horrifying Images,’ Mayorkas Was Told CBP Agents Did Not Whip Haitian Migrants

You may recall an incident last year in which Leftists from Biden, all the way down to your neighbor with the “In This House We Believe” sign became absolutely apoplectic over the cruel and sadistic border agents riding down Haitian immigrants and whipping them. Whipping them, I say! Comparisons were even made to antebellum slavery as the Left worked itself into a full-on foaming-at-the-mouth rage.

Except, of course, that wasn’t the case. The agents were using the reins to control the horses and no immigrants were harmed. There even were pictures of immigrant children petting the horses. The truth eventually came out and of course was largely ignored by the media, Democrat politicians, and your neighbor. But as it turned out, the government knew that the allegations were false, but decided to let the narrative take its course.

Hours before DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas took part in a press conference, he was informed that the photographer who took the photos had said that the agents were not whipping the immigrants.

He believes the accident was a Muslim attack and that the shot at Vilks’ car came from behind and was fired from an abandoned house with a slightly elevated view of the motorway. There were about 200 metres between the house and the car at the time. He names the two policemen killed as Andreas Gustafsson and David Omelius. Erlingsson’s You Tube page. Germany should have won the wars, for they would never ever let these GD 3rd worlders into Europe in the first place, thus we would not be in the position we are now.

        • The bloody turks have been the bane of Southern Europe’s existence since Constantinople fell, the bloody turks don’t belong and have never belonged in Europe in the first place.
