Biden Student Loan Handout to Cost More Than $400 Billion: CBO
President Biden’s move to cancel up to $10,000 in student loans for many borrowers — and up to $20,000 for others — will cost more than $400 billion, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
“CBO estimates that the cost of student loans will increase by about an additional $400 billion in present value as a result of the action canceling up to $10,000 of debt issued on or before June 30, 2022, for borrowers with income below specified limits and an additional $10,000 for such borrowers who also received at least one Pell grant,” the CBO said in a letter released Monday.

British Pound Plummets to All-Time Low Against U.S. Dollar
The British pound dropped to an all-time low against the U.S. dollar early Monday morning, falling almost 5% to reach a record low of $1.0350. The drop is expected to put more strain on U.K. households already hard hit by surging inflation, particularly in regard to energy costs.
Year-over-year inflation in the U.K. stood at 9.9 percent as of August, down slightly from 10.1 percent in July.

Dow Officially Enters Bear Market
The Dow Jones Industrial Average officially entered bear market territory on Monday, following a precipitous drop.
The key metric fell 329.60 points on Monday, marking a 1.11% decline, placing the index in bear market territory, per MarketWatch. A bear market is traditionally defined as a 20% decline from a recent high.
On Friday, the Dow Jones plunged below 30,000, effectively erasing all of the stock market’s gains since President Joe Biden took office.
The S&P 500 also reached a low point for the year 2022, dropping 1.03% to 3,655.04, while the third major index, the Nasdaq Composite, dropped 0.6% to 10,802.92.

6 Dead, 31 Shot Over Violent Chicago Weekend
Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago has had another weekend of violent crime as at least 31 people have been shot and 6 killed over the weekend.
According to local ABC news, the weekend kicked off on Friday with a 13-year-old boy who was shot in the ankle in a drive-by shooting as he was walking with a friend in his South Austin neighborhood. He survived his injuries but the police have no suspects.

Alec Baldwin Faces Charges for Rust Shooting
Sante Fe prosecutor says she’s ‘ready’ to file charges against FOUR people and that actor is a ‘possible defendant’ after he finally handed over his cell phone
New Mexico prosecutors have indicated they may charge Alec Baldwin over the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his movie Rust last year, after the actor handed over his cellphone to be considered as evidence.
In a letter to the state’s financial board, asking for funding to prosecute the high profile case, Santa Fe District Attorney District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said she was ‘ready’ to file charges against four people.
She stopped short of confirming the charges she planned to bring, but said was ‘certainly looking all the homicide statutes and any gun statutes under New Mexico criminal code’.
‘One of the possible defendants is well known movie actor Alec Baldwin,’ she wrote.
Carmack-Altwies asked for $635,000 to prosecute the case, saying she needed the money to go up against well-paid attorneys.

Alec Baldwin’s Attorney Speaks After Santa Fe DA Gets Funds for ‘Rust’ Prosecutions
Following an announcement from the Santa Fe District Attorney that the office had secured funding for prosecutions in connection with the filming of “Rust,” an attorney for Alec Baldwin has clarified that the actor remains uncharged.
“The DA has made clear that she has not received the sheriff’s report or made any decisions about who, if anyone, might be charged in this case,” Baldwin attorney Luke Nikas said, per Deadline.
In October 2021, while filming for “Rust” in New Mexico, Baldwin fatally wounded cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. FBI Whistleblower’s Wife Suspended From Facebook After Sending a Private Message
President of Empower Oversight Whistleblowers and Research, Jason Foster, discusses the mistreatment of whistleblowers and their families when they come forward.
“The FBI is notorious for retaliating against whistleblowers,” Jason Foster told the “Just the News, Not Noise” show Monday. “They’re just getting smarter at it by using security clearances as a pretext.”

A man casually carrying a shotgun and claiming to be from Chicago walked into a Florida convenience store during an attempted robbery but walked out when a clerk displayed his own weapon, authorities said.
Rakim Stephen Tate, 32, made a bad decision that “became a worse decision” when he walked into a convenience store on Sept. 9 with a visible shotgun to his side, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
He is charged with openly carrying a prohibited weapon and attempted robbery with a firearm.

Man Dies in San Francisco’s Hallidie Plaza From Apparent Stab Wounds
A man was pronounced dead early Monday morning in Hallidie Plaza in San Francisco following an apparent stabbing, police said.
Officers responded at 4 a.m. to the plaza in the 900 block of Market Street after someone reported a stabbing. Hallidie Plaza is at the entrance to the Powell Street BART station.
Officers located the victim with apparent stab wounds, according to police. Officers rendered medical aid and called for paramedics, who also tried to save the man’s life, police said.
Officers have made no arrest in the case.

Man Finds Pedestrian’s Body on Roof of SUV After Driving to Work, Authorities Say
LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV/Gray News) — A man was killed in Texas Friday morning after being hit by a vehicle, authorities say.
According to Robby Cox, Gregg County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4, the driver of an SUV didn’t realize he had hit someone and kept driving to work.
Cox said the driver discovered the pedestrian’s body on the roof of the SUV when he got to work.
The man was pronounced dead just after 8 a.m. Friday, Cox said. His identity was not disclosed.
Authorities said the crash was an accident.

NASA Rocket Collides With Asteroid
National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched an experimental spacecraft on a successful mission to collide with an asteroid.
The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft was scheduled to collide with the asteroid Dimorphos at 7:15 p.m. EST, according to NASA.
The mission stayed on track despite the coming of Hurricane Ian.
The successful DART launch may provide a roadmap for the prevention of terrestrial collisions with celestial objects in the future.

New Orleans, Murder Capital of America, Hiring Civilians to Do Police Work in Wake of Cop Exodus
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) announced that they are hiring civilians to do police work as cops have left the NOPD in droves after the city’s “defund the police” efforts and rising crime. While these new hires are mostly in administrative roles, they will also fill some duties formerly reserved for detectives. The program started Sunday.
The New York Post reports that NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said, “As we take calls over the phone, there may be some evidence that needs to be collected with that call. PayPal Could be Legally Prevented From Banning People for Their Political Views
PayPal could be prevented by law from banning people over their political views, after the company faced a backlash following its decision to terminate the accounts of several high profile groups.
Although PayPal has been banning conservatives and right-wingers for years, its recent move to terminate accounts operated by the Free Speech Union and other groups in the UK that opposed lockdowns and vaccine mandates has apparently been a step too far.
Following the controversy, dozens of Conservative Party MPs, including Michael Gove, David Davis and Sir Iain Duncan Smith, signed an open letter to Jacob Rees-Mogg’s Business Department demanding that PayPal be legally barred from imposing discriminatory practices.

Pennsylvania Man Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Hurling Molotov Cocktail at Historic Courthouse
A Pennsylvania man received a five-year prison sentence with three years of supervised release last week for attempting to firebomb a courthouse with a Molotov cocktail in December 2019.
Samson Yohe, 30, was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment for malicious attempt to destroy a building by fire and explosives and was also ordered to pay $280 in restitution for having damaged the historic Adams County Courthouse in Gettysburg, according to a Friday press release from the Department of Justice.
U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam said Yohe threw an incendiary device comprised of an antique bottle filled with an unidentified liquid, several matches and a white cotton sock at the window of the courthouse on Dec. 22, 2019. The device damaged the window but did not explode.

The University of North Texas has agreed to pay $165,000 in damages and attorneys’ fees to settle a lawsuit filed by a professor it fired after he criticized fliers about microaggressions.
Nathaniel Hiers had sued the university in April 2020, alleging the taxpayer-funded institution rescinded the math scholar’s employment contract “without notice” for making a joke, a violation of his free speech rights.
At issue was “a stack of fliers” on microaggressions Hiers noticed in the department faculty lounge in November 2019. He read them, found the ideas wanting, then wrote “Don’t leave garbage lying around” in jest on a chalkboard, with arrows pointing to the fliers, the lawsuit had stated.

A former assistant United States attorney says that Shannon Brandt’s bond is “very low” and “woefully inadequate” for his alleged killing of 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson with an SUV.
Brandt, 41, used an SUV to hit Ellingson during the early morning hours of Sept. 18 and told a 911 operator that he hit the teenager because he was part of a “Republican extremist group” and was adding that he had a “political argument” with Ellingson, court documents show. Brandt also alleged that Ellingson was calling others to come “get him,” according to the documents.
Ellingson was severely injured and was taken to a local hospital, but later died.

SWAT Arrests California Man for Plotting ‘Las Vegas-Style’ Mass Shooting
A 37-year-old man was arrested Sunday in Northern California on suspicion of threatening to kill police officers and planning a “Las Vegas-style” mass shooting, authorities said.
The suspect was taken into custody by SWAT officers at a Super 8 motel in Chico after detectives obtained evidence of his plot, according to a police statement.
The evidence included unspecified information that he had made “criminal threats to kill specific individuals, specified law enforcement officers, and was preparing to commit a ‘Las Vegas style’ mass shooting with a specified deadline,” said the statement from the Chico Police Department.

Update: Defense Attorneys in Oath Keeper Case File Motion to Reveal Identities of Federal Informants
Biden’s Department of Justice admitted on Friday, via a motion for a protective order, that there were federal informants with the FBI working within the Oath Keepers organization. Members of that group have been charged with “seditious conspiracy” stemming from the Capital riot on January 6.
Now, as the trial of Oathkeeper Stewart Rhodes and four co-conspirators is set to begin on Tuesday, attorneys for the defendants have filed a counter motion, saying that “none of the [confidential human sources] provided evidence of guilt on the part of the Oath Keepers as an organization, or the individual defendants in this case.”

Woman Intentionally Mowed Down, 4 Slashed as Large NYC Fight Reported: Cops
A 31-year-old woman died after being intentionally hit by a white sedan in Queens over the weekend — at the same time four men showed up at a hospital with slash or stab wounds following a fight, and authorities are looking into how the two incidents might be related.
Police responded to a 911 call about a pedestrian hit at 120th Street and 97th Avenue around 2:45 a.m. Saturday and to a call about a large group fighting near 120th Street and 95th Avenue around the same time, authorities say.
Officers were directed to the 97th Avenue spot, where they found Tiara Graham in the road with trauma to her body. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities say the ensuing investigation found a white sedan hit her on purpose, though the make and model weren’t immediately known as of early Monday. Also, four men with stab or slash wounds showed up at a hospital via private means. A 23-year-old had been stabbed in the torso, a 32-year-old slashed in the face and two 40-year-old men had been slashed in the face. Cops say the latter two victims may also have been hit by a car.
No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

Alberta Commands RCMP to Ignore Ottawa’s Firearms Confiscation Orders

Canada Lifts COVID-19 Travel Restrictions Starting Oct. 1
Canada announced Monday the country will as of Oct. 1 drop all COVID-19 restrictions for travelers.
The decision includes the end of vaccination and masking requirements for airline and train passengers, which is likely to help Canada’s travel industry, according to Reuters.
“As Canadians and international visitors look to make travel plans, the long-awaited removal of all remaining measures effective Oct. 1, 2022 will further expedite recovery for our industry and the Canadian economy,” said WestJet Airlines, Canada’s second-largest carrier.

Danielle Smith Would Seek to Bar All Police From Enforcing Confiscation Program
Alberta’s United Conservative Party leadership candidate Danielle Smith says she applauds the Alberta government’s opposition to the federal gun grab — and that she would take the efforts a step further by seeking to bar all police from enforcing the program, if elected Premier next month.
The Government of Alberta announced Monday it sent instructions to the RCMP K-Division, the arm of the federal police force with authority in Alberta, to ignore direct orders from the federal Trudeau Government to confiscate firearms designated “assault-style” weapons by Ottawa.
Smith said she would use her Alberta Sovereignty Act to propose that the UCP caucus prohibits any enforcement by the RCMP and Alberta’s provincially regulated municipal police services “of this misguided and unconstitutional federal policy.”

Woman Drops Dead Immediately After Receiving COVID Booster
A woman reportedly died in a Saskatchewan pharmacy immediately after receiving a COVID-19 booster shot.
Her daughter Stephanie Foster recalls the incident in a GoFundMe page started by a friend to help with the funeral costs.
“My mom texted me right after she got the shot to let me know she was waiting the 15 mins and I texted her back. It was right after then, that they say “she dropped dead before she hit the floor” in Shoppers Drug Mart! That is what the docs have told us.”

Austria: Right-Wing FPÖ Rises to Second Place in Tyrol Elections
Giorgia Meloni was not the right’s only big election winner this weekend, with the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) also seeing success by scoring 18.6 percent of the vote in state elections in Tyrol.
The right-wing party overtook SPÖ, which only won 17.4 percent of the vote, to come in second place. Czech Elections Show Steady Rise of Right-Wing Parties and Populists as Economy Sours
In this year’s municipal elections in the Czech Republic held over the weekend, Czechs backed populist and right-wing parties as the center-right government saw voters turn away due to a souring economy and growing cost-of-living crisis.
The populist ANO party, which is led by former Prime Minister Andrej Babis, came in first in eight of 13 regional capitals, but it fell short of gaining control of the two largest cities, Prague and Brno. Babis, considered a close ally of Hungarian Prime Minister VIktor Orban, narrowly lost Czech national elections in 2021, but the latest results indicate that his party is clawing back voters.

Industrialist: ‘The Americans Control Everything in the Background’
German industrialist Wolfgang Grupp, the CEO of textile giant Trigema, does not understand why Germans suddenly see Vladimir Putin as a mortal enemy. He believes that the US is controlling everything in the background and are the only winners of this war.
The head of the textile manufacturer has taken a stand on the Ukraine war in an interview with BW24.de. Grupp told the portal, “I don’t understand how you can be best friends with Mr Putin for 20 years, be 100 percent dependent on him and within two months you are mortal enemies! That doesn’t make sense.”

Peter R De Vries: More Suspects Arrested Over Murder of Dutch Crime Reporter
Dutch prosecutors have arrested more suspects in connection with the murder of well-known crime reporter Peter R de Vries.
A 30-year-old man was detained in Poland on Monday on suspicion of helping prepare the murder.
Prosecutors said the man is believed to have lived in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam at the time of the killing.

An in-depth report from The New York Times has revealed the scale of Germany’s prosecution of “online speech-related crimes” and provided a behind-the-scenes look at the units who are tasked with surveilling social media to build cases against German citizens for what they post online.
The Times said that after reviewing German state records, it found that there were more than 8,500 cases related to alleged online speech-related crimes and more than 1,000 people have been charged or punished since 2018. However, no national figures exist on the total number of people charged with online speech-related crimes, and experts that spoke with The New York Times said the true figure is probably much higher.

According to exit polls published at the close of voting, Georgian Meloni’s Brothers of Italy (FdI) party has topped the poll with around 25 percent of the vote, and will likely rule along with its right-wing bloc partners from Matteo Salvini’s League party and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia (FI). After the three parties gained around 45 percent of the vote, they will have a majority in the Italian Parliament. The left’s democratic bloc managed less than 30 percent.

Two More Suspects Arrested Over LGBTQ Pride Shooting in Norway
Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting during the annual LGBTQ Pride festival in Oslo.
Norwegian police confirmed on Monday that two more suspects — both from Oslo — had been detained. They face preliminary charges of “complicity in an act of terrorism”.
Two people were killed and more than 20 others injured in the shooting on 25 June in the nightlife district of Norway’s capital.
A total of four suspects have now been arrested, including the suspected gunman, a 43-year-old Norwegian citizen of Iranian origin.
The two latest suspects — a man in his 40s with Somali citizenship and a Norwegian national in his 30s — were arrested on Sunday and were known to the authorities.
On Friday, Oslo police also announced that they had issued an international arrest warrant for a 45-year-old “Islamist”, who they believe is in Pakistan.
“To ensure the best possible cooperation with the Pakistani authorities, we had Oslo police officers in Pakistan a short time ago,” a police spokesperson said.

UK to Double Military Spending
Britain will boost its military spending considerably in the coming years, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has revealed, despite the fact the nation is facing an economic crisis stemming from Covid-19 measures and London’s sanctions on Moscow.
In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph published on Sunday, Wallace said the British government will shell out at least £52 billion ($56.5 billion) to shore up the military, which is “actually going to grow.” The plans are in keeping with Prime Minister Liz Truss’ campaign promise to boost defense spending.
According to the official, Britain’s annual defense budget will amount to £100 billion by 2030.

Just Stop Oil protesters have been warned not to disrupt the London Marathon by the mayor of London, who said they face police action if emergency services are hampered by planned demonstrations.
Sadiq Khan told ITV News that while he understands the importance of climate change, the Metropolitan Police will step in if any protests that go ahead are not “peaceful or safe and lawful”.
It comes as the group is planning its two-day mass demonstration “Occupy Westminster” to begin the day before the race on Saturday 1 October, at Euston, Paddington and Waterloo stations.

UK: Major London Department Store Gives Up on Calling Police to Catch Shoplifters
London department store Fortnum and Mason has given up on calling police to catch shoplifters and is instead using its own private detectives to apprehend thieves.
The upmarket brand has “lost faith in the police” in response to rising levels of shoplifting, partly driven by the cost of living crisis.
Responding to Fortnum and Mason’s decision to use its own security to catch thieves, the Metropolitan Police said businesses were “entitled to employ security companies to provide additional safety for themselves or their premises.”
“Home Office figures published in April revealed that shoplifting prosecutions had fallen to an all-time low,” reports the Telegraph. “Just one in six (16.8 per cent) shoplifting offences reported to police resulted in a charge, nearly half the rate of 30.8 per cent five years previously.”

Putin Grants Russian Citizenship to Snowden
Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted Russian citizenship to former NSA contractor and accused U.S. spy Edward Snowden, the Russian government announced Monday.
Snowden is accused of espionage and theft of government property for leaking to the media troves of information on United States intelligence and mass surveillance programs.
Snowden, 39, has been living in Moscow. He fled first to Hong Kong, after having leaked the classified information in 2013.
He faces up to 30 years in prison in the U.S., according to CNN.

1. US warns Putin of ‘catastrophic consequences’ over nuclear weapons
The United States has said that it would respond “decisively” if Russia uses nuclear weapons against Ukraine.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told NBC News on Sunday that Russia would face “catastrophic consequences”.
His comments came after Russia promised to protect Ukrainian regions it might annex following widely criticised “sham referendums”.
Citizens in four regions of Ukraine were “voting” for a fourth day on Monday in the Russian-organised polls in Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia. Images on social media show armed Russian troops going door-to-door to pressure Ukrainians into voting.
Moscow’s allies, including Serbia and Kazakhstan, have joined the West in stating that they will not recognise the results.

What We Know About the Russian School Shooting
A school shooting in Russia has claimed the lives of at least 17 people, including 11 children, with dozens left injured.
The Kremlin has described the shooting as “a terrorist act” by a former student of the school who killed himself after the attack.
This is what we know.
How did it unfold?
The shooting took place on Monday morning in School No. 88 in Izhevsk, a city 960 kilometres east of Moscow in the Udmurtia region.
The school educates children between grades one and 11.
The government of Udmurtia said 17 people, including 11 children, were killed in the shooting.
According to Russia’s Investigative Committee, 24 other people, including 22 children, were wounded in the attack.
Rescue and medical workers could be seen in the background, some running inside the school with stretchers.
Investigators say the attacker “was wearing a black top with Nazi symbols and a balaclava” when his body was discovered.
Russia’s Investigative Committee, which handles major crimes, said it was looking into the perpetrator’s suspected neo-Nazi links.
The governor of Udmurtia, Alexander Brechalov, said the gunman, who he said was registered as a patient at a psychiatric facility, killed himself after the attack.
He was later identified as a local man born in 1988, who graduated from the school.
Russia’s National Guard said he used two non-lethal handguns adapted to fire real bullets. The guns were not registered with the authorities.
So far, no details about his motives have been released.
A criminal probe into the incident has been launched on charges of multiple murders and illegal possession of firearms.
The attack came just hours after a man had opened fire and severely wounded a recruitment officer at an enlistment centre in Siberia.

A suspected human trafficker has been arrested for smuggling hundreds of migrants into the United States — and charging them each as much as $15,000 before allegedly holding them ransom in her Arizona home.
Tania Estudillo Hernandez, 24, was arrested at a traffic stop by police officers in El Mirage on Friday, according to a post shared by the law enforcement agency.

An 83-year-old elderly woman was shot while canvassing in support of pro-life legislation in Michigan.
The pro-life activist volunteered with Right to Life of Michigan (RLM) to help door-knock to discuss the state’s upcoming vote on Proposal 3, which seeks to protect abortion access in Michigan.
The elderly lady was canvassing in a neighborhood in Lake Odessa when “she was shot in the back/shoulder while leaving a residence during a heated conversation, and that the man who shot her was not a part of her conversation.”
“The victim does not know the identity or motive of her shooter. The victim is still recovering from her gunshot wound and wishes to remain anonymous while the criminal investigation proceeds,” a statement from RLM explained.
