Danish Inflation Hits Four-Decade High as Food, Energy Prices Go Through the Roof
Denmark’s inflation rate reached its highest level in nearly four decades amid a rise in food and energy prices that threatens to halt economic growth in the Nordic country.
In August, the consumer price index soared 8.9% from last year, which is the fastest pace since 1983, Statistics Denmark said. In July, the price index rose 8.7 percent.
According to Sydbank senior economist Mathias Dollerup Sproegel, who called inflation “the Achilles’ heel in both the Danish and the European economy,” given the current price level, an average Danish family will have to spend an extra 40,000 DKK ($5,400) per year on consumer goods, compared with 2021.

European Food Industry Warns: ‘No Energy Means No Food’
The European food industry is sounding the alarm. In a recent statement, companies in the European agri-food industry warn of plant closures and supply bottlenecks as a result of the energy crisis.
In the joint statement released on Thursday, FoodDrinkEurope, the EU’s farmers’ association COPA-COGECA and the EU’s primary food processors’ association warned that some companies could soon shut down production. The first to be affected are small and medium-sized businesses, especially those in energy-intensive sectors such as bakery, vegetable processing and dairy.

Poland May Borrow Money to Replace Lost EU Funds
Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Piotr Glinski has assured Poles the country will find alternative means of funding the projects that were to be funded from the EU Recovery Fund.
“We will respond with our own financial scheme in the absence of the European Recovery funds,” he said in an interview with the Sieci weekly publication. “We aim to implement all provisions of the National Recovery Program anyway,” he added.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing titled “Data Security at Risk: Testimony from a Twitter Whistleblower,” famed ethical hacker and former head of Twitter security Peiter “Mudge” Zatko answered questions on the trove of alleged Twitter security vulnerabilities that were made public in a whistleblower disclosure last month.
In the disclosure, Mudge, who worked at Twitter from November 16, 2020 till January 19, 2022, suggested that Twitter had been penetrated by foreign intelligence agencies multiple times, accused Twitter employees of repeatedly installing spyware on their work computers at the request of external organizations, and alleged that around half of Twitter’s employees were given access to sensitive data.

Blood-Covered Man Walks Into Davenport Publix After Stabbing 2 People: Deputies
DAVENPORT, Fla. (WFLA) — A Davenport man was arrested early Tuesday morning after stabbing two people after a party, according to Polk County deputies.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said it all began at a birthday party celebration Monday night at an apartment on Charo Parkway when suspect Derrick Charles Emery, 32, left the party with two other people.
According to the arrest report, Emery was very intoxicated so the host of the party decided Emery should go home. Meanwhile, his fianceé stayed behind.
Two people, identified as Victims 1 and 2, volunteered to take him home. The sheriff’s office said Victim 1 knew Emery since they were in high school while Victim 2 had just met him.
The arrest report said during the walk home, Emery pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the two victims for no reason. He then yelled ‘F— you’ to the victims while they made their way back to the apartment to get help.
Deputies said victim 2 had been stabbed in the neck, chest, and left forearm while victim 1 was stabbed in the chest and arm. Both were able to be treated and stabilized without surgery.
The sheriff’s office said Emery told deputies that he admitted to being at the party and being intoxicated.
Emery said that during the walk home, the two victims became “plain” with him, meaning that he was “done and would not be coming back.”
According to the suspect, he believed the victims were going to hurt or kill him, but the sheriff’s office said the victims never threatened him.
“At some point he was reaching into his fanny pack for his phone, however, for reasons unknown to him, he reached into the compartment where his pocket knife was, and before he knew it, he was stabbing the two subjects,” the arrest report said.
Emery said the ordeal was a “blur.” Deputies said the suspect eventually walked into a Publix, still wielding the knife with blood on his shirt, and asked management for help.
Emery was arrested on a charge of attempted second-degree murder.

Asheville, North Carolina — Multiple local law enforcement sources who spoke to Fox News Digital laid partial blame for the deteriorating condition of a North Carolina tourist town on the city’s liberal political leadership and on left-wing activists who undermine police.
“I think what you’re seeing in Asheville right now is a culmination of the last several years of pulling police back and not letting them do their jobs like they’re able to do,” former Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan told Fox News Digital in a phone interview.

Disney Employee, School Teacher Among 160 Arrested in Florida Human Trafficking Sting
A Disney employee, a corrections officer, and several school teachers were among 160 people arrested in a seven-day long undercover human trafficking sting in Polk County, Florida.
According to WAFB9, the operation — “Fall Haul 2” — resulted in 52 felonies and 216 misdemeanor charges. One of the more notable arrests was that of 41-year-old computer technician for Oak Ridge High School, Cameron Burke, who was out on bond for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student that began in 2020.

Father Shoots Family, Killing Wife; Daughter Blames QAnon
WALLED LAKE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police in Michigan say a man opened fire on his family, killing his wife and injuring one of his daughters. His other daughter says he was spiraling out of control before the shootings, blaming it on Qanon.
Rebecca Lanis, 21, says her grandmother called her Sunday morning, asking if she was at the hospital. At a friend’s sleepover and unaware of the tragedy that had just unfolded at her home, she found that a strange question.
But she soon learned that early that morning, her father, 52-year-old Igor Lanis, had shot and killed her 56-year-old mother and critically injured her 25-year-old sister, Rachel Lanis.
The sheriff’s department says Igor Lanis also killed the family dog.
“It was like I was in a movie or nightmare or something. How could this happen to me?” Rebecca Lanis said. “I had a really close bond with my mom, and I just can’t believe that she’s not here.”
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says when officers responded to the family’s home in Walled Lake, Igor Lanis opened fire on them. A Walled Lake police officer and an Oakland County deputy returned fire, killing the man.
Rebecca Lanis says her father had never been physically violent, but his behavior started spiraling about two years ago after former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election.

Soros-Backed DA Gives Texas Man 10 Days in Jail for DUI Crash That Killed Passenger
A man who pleaded guilty to driving drunk in a crash that killed his female passenger was sentenced to 10 days in jail in Austin, Texas by a district attorney’s office led by a George Soros style prosecutor which has drawn criticism from law enforcement.
Leo Anthony Carreto-Lopez, 19, was originally charged with intoxication manslaughter in May after drunk driving at a high speed before crashing into a tree in a fiery accident that killed his 19-year-old passenger Teresa Gonzales.

Brussels Wants to Cut 70% of Hungary’s EU Funding
EU Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn has proposed that the Commission cut up to 70 percent of Hungary’s EU funding if the government refuses to introduce acceptable measures to appease Brussels’ concerns over democratic standards, corruption, migration, and LGBTQ rights.
In a July document published by the EU Commission, Hahn wrote in a note to other commissioners that a “70 percent suspension of commitment” from the current EU budget would be a proportionate response by Brussels should significant changes not materialize after talks between the commission and Viktor Orban’s administration.

Czech Government Agrees on Price for Electricity and Has Cap
The Czech government has agreed on a maximum price of electricity for households, with ministers setting the ceiling at 6 korunas (€0.24) per kWh for electricity and 3 korunas (€0.12) for gas. Prices will apply to households and businesses from November, according to an announcement on Monday at a press conference after an extraordinary meeting of the government.

Estonia Parks Climate Ambitions to U-Turn on Shale Oil Extraction
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas’ government, trapped by its own total ban on Russian energy, has decided to return to oil shale.

Greek Coast Guard Opens Fire on Turkish Vessel
A Turkish cargo vessel had a run-in with a Greek coast guard patrol off Turkey’s Aeagean coast on Saturday, with the two nations providing conflicting accounts of the incident.
The Comoros-flagged ro-ro vessel ‘Anatolian’ sustained minor damage from Greek small arms fire, according to the Turkish side. The Greek coastguard, however, insists that only warning shots were fired at the vessel.
Turkish media circulated video footage of the incident, captured by the crew of the ‘Anatolian’. It shows a Greek coast guard boat sailing alongside the ro-ro vessel. The video also shows several bullet holes in the windows and walls of the vessel’s superstructure, purportedly left as the result of Greek small arms fire.

After 70,000 people protested against the Czech government last Saturday over the government’s stance on the Ukraine war and surging energy prices, Czech Prime Petr Fiala hit back by claiming those protesting were pro-Russian, going so far as to say there is a “fifth Russian column” in Czech society. Fiala’s claim has already been criticized by a number of politicians, with a former general, Petr Pavel, also now coming out against Fiala’s remarks.
Pavel is a significant figure in the Czech political scene, and polling shows him winning the presidential election, which is set to take place in January 2023.

Poland Has to be Christian to Survive, Says Education Minister
Poland’s conservative Education Minister Przemyslaw Czarnek has claimed that “all the unhappiness in the world can be traced to a failure to observe the Lord’s commands.”
Speaking at a religious pilgrimage for men, he also said that “man cannot be understood without Christ and that to be a believer means one must be loyal to God and country.”
Czarnek added Poles must be prepared to put up a fight against atheism. “If we don’t want to be Western in the sense of cultural decadence and hostility to religion, we have to be ready to act as counterrevolutionaries,” he told a Warsaw audience.

Poles Don’t Believe the Country’s WWII Reparations Claim Will be Successful
On Sept. 1, the anniversary of the start of World War II, a detailed report was presented by Poland as the basis of a claim for $1.3 trillion worth of reparations from Germany. It was announced that the Polish government would now pursue this claim through diplomatic efforts. Germany has claimed that Poland waived its rights to reparations in 1953.
Polish daily Rzeczpospolita commissioned SW Research to ask Poles to assess the chances of securing the reparations claim from Germany. The results of the research suggest that Poles are highly pessimistic about the chances of securing any pecuniary damages from the Germans.

At ArcelorMittal’s steel plant at the port of Hamburg, workers are coordinating production to ensure it does not interfere with peak electrical loads — seen during the morning and evening — for residents in the city of Hamburg. The Hamburg steel plant consumes an enormous amount of energy. For example, in one of the smelters that makes crude iron, it uses 76,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity in just one hour, which is the equivalent of half a million televisions, according to German newspaper Die Welt.
“We have the gas needs of the city of Lübeck and the electricity needs of Kiel,” said Ansgar Jüchter, an engineer at the plant.

UK: Arrests of Protesters Prompt Free-Speech Concerns
The arrests of protesters after the death of Queen Elizabeth II are “deeply concerning”, free-speech campaigners have said.
Police in Scotland have charged two people, while a man was arrested and de-arrested in Oxford.

In London, as queues began for the lying in state, the Met Police said people “have a right to protest”.

US Nuclear Power Offer to Poland on the Table, But South Korea and France Are Still Contenders
Poland’s Climate Minister Anna Moskwa met with U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski and the CEO of Westinghouse Poland on Monday in order to discuss the U.S. offer to build nuclear reactors in Poland.
The U.S. offer is for Westinghouse to build AP1000 type reactors, with the company already building four such reactors in China and two more in the United States. The proposal presented to the Polish government also includes the description of the strategic framework for U.S.-Polish cooperation on nuclear power. That document marks the fulfillment of the U.S.-Polish agreement on intergovernmental cooperation on nuclear power signed back in October 2020.

Losses Around Kharkiv Stymie Russia’s Offensive Capabilities, Analysts Say
Ukraine’s successful counteroffensive in the northeastern region of Kharkiv has severely reduced Russia’s military capabilities and means Moscow will be unable to achieve its current war aims, analysts said Tuesday.
“The overall situation for Russia is becoming increasingly difficult,” said Konrad Muzyka of Poland-based Rochan Consulting.
“It will be up to Ukraine to decide when, where and how it will regain territory.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly address Monday that Kyiv’s forces had taken back 6,000 square kilometers of territory as a result of fighting in the country’s Kharkiv and Kherson regions. Video footage and photos from the battlefield suggested Russian troops abandoned large amounts of equipment — including tanks and armored vehicles — in their retreat.
As the scale of Russia’s defeat became clear, analysts said losses of men and equipment meant Moscow would be unable to mount any major attacks in the near future.

Ukraine to Supply Poland With Coal After Russian Embargo
Ukraine is willing to export 100,000 tons of coal to Poland in September, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Poland is currently seeking to import coal to make up the shortfall sparked by its decision in spring to stop any further coal imports from Russia. Up until then, Russia had been a major supplier of coal to Poland, an energy source that fuels over 70 percent of Poland’s energy needs, power and heating.

Armenia Requests Russian Military Assistance as Fighting Breaks Out With Azerbaijan
Update (2305ET): The overnight outbreak of fighting in multiple spots along the Armenian-Azerbaijan border is serious enough for Yerevan to have asked for its powerful ally Russia’s help.
This has been revealed hours after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a late night telephone conversation with President Vladimir Putin. Instead of migrants waiting in Denmark for their asylum request to be processed, the country’s left-wing government will now begin deporting them to Rwanda after the African country agreed to accept them in a bilateral agreement.

France: Congolese Migrant Arrested for Serial Rapes of Hospitalized Pensioners and Schoolgirl
A 27-year-old Congolese migrant was arrested on Friday; he had evaded authorities since July following a double rape of two elderly patients at a hospital in Hauts-de-Seine, a suburb of Paris.
The suspect was arrested at the Gare de Lyon in Paris by the police of the Ile-de-France force. The arrest occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. as officials approached the man while he was waiting for a metro. A search of his given name revealed he was a Congolese national under a search warrant issued by a magistrate of the Nanterre court in Hauts-de-Seine.
The attack on July 27 saw two pensioners, aged 68 and 77, raped just 30 minutes apart as they sat hospitalized in the Max-Fourestier hospital in Nanterre, Hauts-de-Seine. Both patients are understood to have been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and were unable to put up significant resistance.

Germany: Calls for a ‘Refugee Summit’ As New Migrant Wave Strains Cities and States

An immigration watchdog has slammed the ‘staggering’ $20.4 billion U.S. taxpayers spend each year on the education, healthcare and other services for the 2.3 million migrants who have entered the country under President Joe Biden’s watch.

A Tunisian migrant smuggler who rammed a police vehicle in a stolen vehicle was shot and killed during a police chase near the French city of Nice, but some are expressing outrage that the police officer in the case has been charged with manslaughter.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening near Nice in the south of France last week when the driver of a van refused to stop at a police checkpoint in Sospel. An influx of migrants into a Texas border town killing local pets, stealing from shops, and knocking on doors late at night has prompted residents to buy more weapons to defend themselves.
