The Revenge of the Moors

In Southern Europe the use of the “Moor’s Head” emblem or logo is widespread, for example in the flags of Corsica and Sardinia. The symbol refers to the centuries-long struggle to eject the Islamic invaders from the islands and littorals of Europe.

The following article from further north reports on the controversy surrounding a café in Germany called The Moor’s Head. The name is long-established, but has recently been targeted for cancellation by the woke brigades. Surprisingly, the restaurant is receiving widespread support from people who are sick of the ubiquitous PC bullying.

Despite hostilities: “Café Mohrenkopf” [Moor’s Head] sticks to the name

Ingolstadt

The host of the “Café Mohrenkopf” in Ingolstadt landed a viral hit with a Facebook post. His complaint about bad Google reviews from people who object to the name but have never been there has now been liked by more than 167,000 people. Almost 30,000 commented on the post and it was shared 10,000 times. And he affirmed: “For the umpteenth time: THE NAME STAYS!!!!

The innkeeper Claus Häring wrote about the bad reviews: “It annoys me. And it’s tremendous!!!” His employees did a “superb job, working their butts off for the café and our guests, cleaning, cooking, serving, keeping the café running, and they’re still in a good mood altogether “.

Now it’s raining 5-star reviews

The service is rated badly by some who “have never been to the café because the name is inappropriate.” He urges the whiners: “You’d better direct these negative things at me; after all I’m the bad guy, and not my employees.”

Google is now receiving masses of 5-star reviews for the “Café Mohrenkopf” — also from people who have never been there and openly write that they want to neutralize the negative reviews. One writes: “Please don’t give in to the hate-eating do-gooders who terrorize us!” Another formulates: “One would like to ban Karl May, the other the name Mohrenkopf. Even though it’s a nice café and a long-established name. The censorship is reminiscent of very bad times.” And another says: “Hopefully these brain-sick, red-green oafs don’t manage to get the name changed.” The café now has an average of 4.4 stars — an extremely high value, according to Google classified as “very good”.

Afterword from the translator:

I think it’s good that they didn’t fold and going to keep the name. Maybe these woke muddleheads should have a look where the name “Mohrenkopf” comes from? The term “Mohrenkopf” (also Othello or chocolate balls) is used for various small pastries. The term “Mohrenkopf” (head of a Moor) is a translation of the French Tête de Nègre and was first documented in Leipzig in 1892 . What a bunch of hopeless, deluded weirdoes they are, constantly looking for something to destroy because of their own prejudice.

  1. Those wokes have it all wrong: in pastry, Mohrenkopf has a positive connotation for being a delicious treat. The moor himself was never a derogative term, unless they terrorized european shores for centuries. It defined a north african ,thus arab, and not african Africans. This terror that brought a million Europeans into slavery( still one of their major business) was ended by one Steven Decatur and his marines.

    • Indeed. Some of the woke brigade claim Shakespeare’s “Othello” should only be played by a black actor (they’re not insisting on a woman or transgender person yet, so far as I know), but the character (and, so far as I know, the historical person he’s based on) was a “Moor”, ie from the Mahreb, so Arab, Berber or a mixture of the two, like the majority of the inhabitants of the north coast of Africa west of Egypt; indeed the same folk who occupied Spain for many centuries, making Othello, as a warrior fighting for the State of Venice, something of an anomaly.

I can’t resist referring to near the end of the last act of “Othello”, which I studied at school; Othello has smothered his wife, Desdemona, because Iago has convinced him that she was unfaithful (excuse spoiler!). Iago is brought for questioning, and asked to explain his actions. He says that he resented being passed over for promotion in favour of the younger, and less experienced, Cassio (whom he’s implicated as Desdemona’s lover), and that he suspects Othello of being hs wife’s lover, but then adds the comment, about Othello: “Besides, he hath a daily beauty in his life, which makes mine ugly”. What incredible insight; Shakespeare was a psychologist three centuries before Freud.

  2. Nuremberg’s major brewery, Tuecher, has always featured a Moor’s head as part of their logo. I wonder if that’s next.

  3. It reminds me of that old German baking song lyric by Isaac Hayesenkötter…
“Suck on my chocolate salty balls/ Put ‘em in your mouth and suck ‘em!”

That’s what they should tell the woke protestors!

  4. I am a proud graduate of an elementary school named after Admiral Stephen Decatur! My ancestors came from the northern Spanish city of Burgos … the hometown of Don Rodrigo Campeador, El Cid!
I can’t wait to eat at that cafe!

  5. You owe it to yourself to read Matt Bracken’s “The Red Cliffs of Zerhoun” to truly understand Islam and the mindset of those who follow blindly that dogmatically calloused religion.

Matt’s book is not only exceptionally exciting, it imparts a true feel of the Muslim world.

I believe most Muslims want to live in peace, however, when pushed to the limits of the Islamic religion by hard core Islamicists, they spare no quarter for those who are not Muslim believers.

Even though I have lived around them and most have not… have you read the Quran? Buy a copy and read it like I’m doing. Decide for yourself. Read the book “The Red Cliffs of Zerhoun” first.

“I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of God. I have seen too much religion in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness. What God desires is here… (he points to his head)… and here (he points to his heart)… and what you decide to do every day, you will be a good man… or not” – Quote of David Thewlis as Hospitaller The Jerusalem Crusader from the movie “The Kingdom of Heaven”

    • There were Jewish people in Germany and elsewhere who were still wondering if it would all blow over. Muslims will attack when their numbers are right.” Not a single female out there raging. What’s a Muslim to think?

  6. A favourite restaurant in Salzburg has changed the traditional evocative name of one its deserts, chocolate cake with icecream, from Mohr im Hemd (Moor in a shirt) to the pedestrian Lauwarmer Schokoladenkuchen (Lukewarm chocolate cake). It seems that sadly this is becoming a common theme across Europe

  7. It ain’t just this kind of stuff. It’s into the warp and woof of Germany. In the words of CA, over at WRSA, Deutschland ist verloren.

  8. How come the lefties never complain about the history of izlamic imperialism and colonization?

    • Those wokies do the same in India as well. Make out the British to be some comic super villains while completely ignoring the crimes of the Islamic Mughal empire and the Delhi Sultanate, in our history text books. That is the trash they teach in our schools.
