Headin’ Out

I’ll be leaving home shortly to visit an old friend of mine in another part of the Old Dominion.

I haven’t been out-of-state since the plague arrived. During the height of the “pandemic”, the Coronamadness was much worse in Maryland than it was here in Virginia. Indoor dining was shut down there months after things had opened up here. The governor of Maryland decreed a mask mandate in all public places, which, bad as things got, never happened here.

The news from Maryland just made me want to stay this side of the Potomac. I suppose the situation must have improved by now, but my aversion persists — I’d rather limit my travels to Virginia, and to the more rural parts of the state at that, where people are relatively sane.

North Carolina would probably also be OK, but I don’t have any kin or friends that live down there.

I was at the dentist’s office the other day, and much to my delight they had lifted their mask requirement for patients (the staff still had them on). I guess that means the “pandemic” is officially over.

I’ll be gone overnight, so there will be no news feed tonight. But I should be back in time to post one tomorrow night. See you then!

  1. US warplanes bombed Norrbotten

    Published 18 August 2022

American B-52 Stratofortress bombers dropped live bombs in Norrbotten today during an exercise with the Swedish Armed Forces.

It is the first time since the Swedish Armed Forces began training with the US Bomber Task Force that live ammunition has been used.

    – Exercises like this one involve several elements: from coordination, liaison and escort in Swedish airspace until live fire can be fired at hostile targets in Sweden. The exercise will be proof that the whole chain works,” says Air Force Chief Carl-Johan Edström in a press release.

During the exercise, operations were coordinated between the US aircraft and Swedish ground units at Vidsel firing range in Norrbotten. Three GBU 31 bombs were dropped from the US aircraft and hit targets identified by the Swedish unit on the ground.

    – The war in Ukraine has clearly demonstrated the importance of having a long-range combat capability. The capability we have now exercised increases our defence capability considerably and is important not least in light of the Swedish application for membership of NATO,” says Carl-Johan Edström.

During the exercise, the Air Force also cooperated with the Norwegian Air Force in Norwegian airspace.

    • How awful.

Think of all the lichen and microbes wantonly destroyed by American bombs.

Certainly the resources utilized for the exercise could have been better utilized to house another couple thousand African rapefugees.
