German Consumer Confidence Hits Record Low as Energy Bill Fears Soar
Germans are feeling more frugal than at any point in the last decade, according to a survey by GfK. It found that consumers are putting aside any spare cash in anticipation of much higher energy bills.
The energy crisis and high inflation have pushed German consumer sentiment to a record low, research firm GfK said Friday.
Gfk’s consumer barometer saw a surprising drop of 5.6 points in July to —36.5.
The barometer, from a survey of 2,000 German consumers, has not registered such a low figure since it was created in 1991.

California Bill Aims to Restrict Rap Lyrics Being Used as Evidence in Criminal Proceedings
California’s state Senate passed legislation that would limit prosecutors from using rap lyrics as evidence during criminal proceedings. The practice, which is common but controversial as it brushes up against First Amendment privileges, gained public attention after the arrest of rappers Young Thug and Gunna in the state of Georgia.

DC ‘No Shots, No School’ Vaccine Mandate Enforcement Pushed Back to 2023
Washington, DC is postponing its strict “no shots, no school” Covid vaccine policy for school children until 2023, pushing the requirement that students 12 and older get the Covid vaccination back from its original September 16 deadline.
DCist reports that Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn confirmed Covid vaccine enforcement will not begin until January 3, 2023 when kids return from winter break and said, “To reduce the number of students who could be excluded from school at any one time, and to align schools and LEAs [local education agencies] to one unified notification and exclusion timeline, we are implementing staggered enforcement.”

Explosion Rocks Downtown Portland Food Cart Pod, Shattering Windows
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An explosion at a Portland food cart pod shook at least a city block, shattering windows.
Portland Police and Portland Fire received multiple calls around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday reporting an explosion at the food cart pod near SW 5th Avenue and SW Harvey Milk Street.
Officials arrived and reported finding that an explosion had shattered a large number of windows in the block surrounding the pod.
Officers said they searched the area for anyone who may have been injured by the blast, but could not find anyone.
PPB’s Explosive Disposal Unit performed a sweep of the area for any other potential explosive devices.
The fire investigators report that “there is no indication at this time this incident was a device and it is being investigated as a fuel gas explosion consistent with something like propane.”
Portland Fire & Rescue is expected to release more information later in the day.

Jonathan Welch Used Hot Spatula on Ex, Set Her Genitals on Fire — Detective Says
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (FOX 2) — Jonathan Welch is facing the possibility of life in prison for a triple murder of his ex-girlfriend, step-dad, and mom in Harper Woods, returned to court on Monday for charges in a related case where he allegedly doused his ex with gasoline and lit her fire.
Welch appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on the original charges — that he tortured and assaulted Zlayiah Frazer in a violent and graphic attack on June 12, 2022.
On June 12, Welch was accused of a violent and graphic attack on his ex-girlfriend. According to the prosecutor’s office, he strangled Frazier, poured gasoline on her, threatened to assault her with a drill, burned her arms and legs with a metal spatula, before attempting to sexually assault her using a pole.
The first witness to testify was a detective who took Frazier’s statement after that night. According to the statement, which was written but not recorded, Welch was upset about Frazier possibly talking to someone else on her phone and he wanted to see her conversations. When she refused, he got angry and got an extension cord, metal spatula, and power drills.
The detective said all of this happened with their child in the next room. During the course of the attack, she kept tending to the child as it was crying.
Frazier told the detective that Welch wrapped the cord around her neck and would strangle her, then release, and then reapply pressure. She said he also heated up the spatula on the stove and then put it on her arm.
According to Frazier, Welch told her “if you don’t tell me, this is going to continue all night.”
But what happened with gasoline was extremely graphic.
Frazier told police that Welch poured gasoline between her legs and then set it on fire.
The attack, which lasted for about 4 hours, mercifully ended when Frazier ran to her neighbor’s house and was able to get her help.
Frazier was able to convince Welch to take the extension cord off of her so she could help their crying child. Once she got the child calmed down, she was able to run out the front door to the home of a neighbor’s house. Welch tried to pull Frazier from the porch but soon left.
The neighbors took the woman into their home, gave her a blanket to cover herself and called 911. Welch returned at that time and kicked in the neighbor’s door, but left before police arrived.
He was arrested later the same day. But he wasn’t in jail for long.
Prosecutors then say 36th District Court Magistrate Dawn White set Welch’s bond at $100,000 / 10 percent cash surety.
Less than a month later, Welch was able to post that 10% — $10,000 — and was out of jail on Friday, July 8. By the following Sunday Frazier was dead.
“They let him out of jail, he killed my sister, he killed my sister,” said her sister Breonna.
Prosecutors say Welch barricaded himself in his mom’s Harper Woods home — shot at police and set the house on fire. He is also accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Frazier, his step-dad Robert Bray Jr. and his mom Flossie Nicole Bray.
Welch is now charged with 19 counts including first-degree murder. This time he has no bond.

Man Fatally Stabbed at BART Station Plaza in SF
A man was fatally stabbed above a San Francisco BART station and collapsed on a train platform Sunday afternoon, BART police said. The suspect fled the scene and had not been found.
BART’s surveillance cameras showed two men arguing on the street at the 24th Street BART Plaza, BART Police Chief Ed Alvarez said in a statement. The stabbing victim was then seen to walk down into the station, where he collapsed.
BART police said it was working with the San Francisco Police Department and other local law enforcement to find the suspect.
This fatal incident occurred two days after a man was shot on a BART train at Fruitvale Station in Oakland. The shooting suspect had not been caught.
The 24th Street BART station shut down after the stabbing, but BART announced Sunday evening that it had reopened.

New York Stores Begin Enforcing Ban on Sale of Whipped Cream Canisters to Those Under 21
ID checks for whipped cream are rolling out at stores in New York as more retailers begin to enforce a year-old state law banning the sale of whipped cream canisters to anyone under 21.
The law passed last year amid concern that teenagers are increasingly getting high by inhaling the nitrous oxide used as a propellant in the canisters, according to the Albany Times Union.
The first offense of selling whipped cream canisters to someone under 21 comes with a $250 fine, with fines of up to $500 for subsequent violations.

Police Search for Suspect of Multiple Deadly Shootings in Detroit Sunday
DETROIT, Mich. (FOX 2) — The Detroit Police Department is actively searching for the suspect of multiple deadly shootings in Detroit on Sunday.
FOX 2 saw law enforcement agencies at multiple scenes in the area of 7 Mile and Pennington, 7 Mile and Wyoming, and Livernois and Outer Dr. DPD has not said whether these scenes were correlated.
DPD has not said how many victims were shot.

Police: Woman Fatally Shot After Stabbing Sacramento Officer
SACRAMENTO — Police officers in Northern California fatally shot a woman shortly after she allegedly stabbed an officer in the arm, authorities said Sunday.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was shot Saturday night in Sacramento after she allegedly assaulted another woman who hailed a police patrol, the Sacramento Police Department said in a statement.
The woman who said she was assaulted gave officers a description of the attacker and after officers found a woman who matched the description, they told her to stop but she fled on foot, police said.
After officers caught up with her, one of them told her to stop and she charged the officer and pulled a knife, stabbing him in the upper arm, the department said.
She fell to the ground but continued brandishing the knife at the officers and “an officer-involved shooting then occurred,” it said.
Authorities did not say how many officers opened fire or how many shots were fired.
The woman died at the scene and the officer she stabbed was transported to a hospital where he is recovering after undergoing surgery, the department said.

Supreme Court Sees Lowest Favorability Ratings in 30 Years of NBC Polling
The Supreme Court’s favorability plummeted to new lows in a longtime NBC News poll, with record numbers of voters taking issue with the court shortly after it issued its repeal of Roe v. Wade, its most controversial opinion in decades.
A full 42% of respondents in NBC’s “United States Supreme Court Image” poll reported a “negative” impression of the Supreme Court. That’s the highest the survey has ever recorded during periodic queries since 1992.
Thirty-five percent of respondents, meanwhile, reported a favorable rating, the second-lowest on the poll’s record behind the 36% recorded in July of 1992.
Just 22% of respondents reported a neutral impression of the court.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian rocket and artillery strikes hit areas across the Dnieper River from Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Ukrainian officials said Sunday, as fears persisted that fighting in the vicinity could damage the plant and cause a radiation leak.
Russian forces took control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant soon after the war began and hold adjacent territory along the left bank of the wide river. Ukraine controls the right bank, including the cities of Nikopol and Marhanets, each of them about 10 kilometres (six miles) from the plant.

Culprit arrested. Hindu organisations demand that Shahrukh Hussain be hanged in Ankita murder case after a fast trial in court.
Sushila Mahato | HENB | Ranchi | Aug 25:: In a shocking incident, a one-sided Muslim lover committed a heinous crime out of unrequited love. In Dumka, Jharkhand, a boy named Shahrukh Hussain fell in love with a Hindu girl named Ankita Kumari. He coerced the girl into speaking. When she refused, he attempted to burn her alive by pouring petrol on her Tuesday. The incident occurred in the Jaruadih neighbourhood of the Nagar police station area. Ankita was sent to Hospital immediately for treatment.
The victim, Ankita Kumari, who was being treated at a hospital in Jharkhand after her neighbour named Shahrukh Hussain poured petrol on her and set fire to her five days ago, died on Sunday in hospital. Swarajya journalist Swati Goyal Sharma shared this information in a tweet. The girl’s father Sanjeev Singh informed Sharma that Ankita breathed her last at 2.30 am. She was admitted to Ranchi RIMS for treatment.
According to reports, Shahrukh Hussain is the victim girl’s next-door neighbour. He had been harassing the class 12 girl student for a few days. He was pressuring her to call and speak with him. Hussain also threatened to kill Ankita after she reprimanded him.
Police assure family members justice would be served
When Ankita was sleeping in her house on Tuesday morning, Shahrukh arrived with petrol. He poured petrol on the sleeping Ankita and lit a match due to which she was badly burned. Family members rushed the girl to the hospital where her treatment is being administered.
Following receiving information about the incident, Executive Magistrate Chandrajit Singh and SDPO Noor Mustafa visited the hospital and inquired. He reassured the family that justice would be served.
According to the police, the case is about one-sided love. Shahrukh attempted to kill Ankita by burning her. Legal action is being taken.
Finally Shahrukh was arrested
The incident sparked uproar throughout the Dumka district. Hindu organisations have called for protest marches and bandhs, and many are demanding that Shahrukh Hussain be hanged after a fast trial in court.
Finally, Dumka Police arrested the culprit Shahrukh and framed him in severe charges of murder and intimidation.

ROME — Italian authorities scrambled on Sunday to relieve overcrowding in shelters after scores of boats carrying a total of about 1,000 migrants reached Italy’s southern shores and two of its tiny islands over the weekend.
Nearly 50 boats arrived between Friday night and Saturday on Lampedusa island off Sicily, according to state radio and other Italian media. Other boats carrying migrants reached Pantelleria, another tiny island favored by vacationers.
Hundreds of migrants stepped ashore from the virtual flotilla of smugglers’ vessels on those islands. Several of the vessels launched by migrant smugglers held as few as eight passengers. But others had around 100 passengers aboard, many of them from Tunisia, according to the reports.

Orban Honors Geert Wilders: ‘in Recognition of Work to Curb Illegal Immigration’
The well-known Dutch immigration critic and member of parliament Geert Wilders has been awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit by Hungarian President Orban.
Wilders is a member of the Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV) in the Dutch Parliament and also its chairman. He received the award “in recognition of his consistent support for Hungary and his work to curb illegal immigration,” the Hungarian presidential office said. “In recognition of his publication activity in the international press, which has always strengthened Hungary’s reputation, and his writings on the history of the Hungarian minorities in the Carpathian Basin,” the official justification for the award reads.

Poland Accepts Over 5.86 Mln Refugees Since War in Ukraine Started
Since February 24, when Russia invaded Ukraine, nearly 5.86 million people have crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border into Poland, the Border Guard (SG) tweeted on Sunday morning.
According to the SG, on Saturday Border Guard officers carried out around 26,600 border checks on people entering Poland from Ukraine, and by 7:00 a.m. on Sunday the number of arrivals had reached around 7,100 people.
The Border Guard also said that nearly 4.03 million people had left Poland for Ukraine since the beginning of the war. On Saturday, around 36,600 people crossed the border from Poland to Ukraine.

More than 25,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel to the UK so far this year, Government figures show.
Some 915 were detected on Saturday in 19 small boats, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said, taking the provisional total for the year to 25,146.
There have been 8,747 crossings detected in August so far, with 3,733 in the past week, analysis shows.

Libs of TikTok is Locked Out of Twitter for Alleged “Hateful Conduct”
Libs of TikTok’s Twitter account has been suspended again for violating rules on “hateful conduct.” Before the suspension, the popular account had been reporting on hospitals that allegedly perform “gender reassignment” surgeries on minors.
Twitter did not specify the tweets that led to the suspension. According to The Babylon Bee’s Seth Dillon, who broke the news, the platform said the account had violated its rules on hateful conduct, which state: “You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.”

Nightclub Hosts Teen Drag Performance to Fund LGBT Agenda in Schools, Tickets Sell Out
A nightclub in Wisconsin hosted a drag performance from at least one teenager and boasted that tickets for the event sold out. Proceeds from the event went to a local organization that works to embed gender theory into our education system.
Five Nightclub in Madison, Wisconsin, hosted a drag show that featured at least one teen drag performance among its six drag queens. Some of the performers at the event use stage names such as “MettahDroid,” “Dee Dee Purr,” and “Nemo.”

‘Straight Pride’ March Outside Abortion Clinic Clashes With 200 Protesters
A march celebrating “straight pride” outside of an abortion clinic in California devolved into violence as participants clashed with more than 200 pro-LGBTQ and pro-choice counter-protesters, according to a report.
The National Straight Pride Coalition, which organized the event, held for the fourth consecutive year in Modesto on Saturday, described its cause as backing heterosexuality, the “natural nuclear family,” Western civilization, Caucasians, Christianity and nationalism.
The handful of straight pride demonstrators was joined by members of the far-right group Proud Boys outside of a Planned Parenthood building ahead of the rally’s start — and were met by counter-protesters draped in rainbow flags and waving signs reading “Fascists not welcome here,” the Modesto Bee reported.

Police told a group of lesbians to leave a gay pride march in Cardiff after an officer was filmed telling the gender-critical women to step aside due to ‘confrontation’ with a transgender marchers and their supporters.
The activist group ‘Get The L Out UK’, which ‘stands against transgenderism’, shared footage from yesterday’s Cardiff Pride event.
In the clip, two rival marchers can be seen shouting at each other on St Mary Street during the LGBT march.

Three out of four Swedes believe in cultural enrichment

Attitudes to so-called diversity differ widely between political blocs, the Diversity Barometer survey shows. But a large proportion of Swedes believe cultural enrichment is happening.
The proportion in favour of diversity for the left-wing bloc (C, S, V and MP) is 71%, while the figure among conservatives/liberals (SD, M, KD and L) is 28%.
Liberal voters, along with those of the Green Party and the Left Party, are most positive about diversity.
A closer look at the attitudes towards diversity in different voter groups shows that all MP voters are positive, followed by C and L, with 95 and 79 percent respectively.
At the same time, 74% of Swedes claim to think that Sweden is “culturally enriched” by people with foreign backgrounds. This is a clear upward trend since 2016, when 59 percent thought immigration was good for Swedish culture.
However, almost four in ten, 36%, think it is too easy to get Swedish citizenship compared to three in ten, 28%, who thought so in 2006. A majority, 61%, agree that only those who behave themselves, get a job and do not overuse the social security system should be allowed to become Swedish citizens.
Of the 55% who think there are religions that conflict with so-called human rights, 99% point to Islam, but a growing proportion, now 35%, also find Christianity difficult to reconcile with human rights.
The causes of crime in so-called excluded areas divide the political blocs. The idea that poverty and unemployment, i.e. “socio-economic factors”, are the cause of crime is supported by almost eight out of ten Swedes (79%). Voters from the L, C, MP, S and V parties are over-represented here.
