97 Percent of Execs Say US in Recession Despite Biden’s Definition Change

The Biden administration changed the definition of the word recession in July, prior to the release of numbers that showed the US was in a recession, in order to be able to make the claim that the US was not in a recession. Despite this, a large number of US executives believe the country is now in a recession.

Of the top three reasons why Canadians have taken on new debt, respondents said that covering bills, consolidating past debt and job losses were the primary drivers.

Sharp Rise in Abandoned Pets as Cost-of-Living Skyrockets in UK

There has been a “sharp rise” in abandoned pets in the UK as the cost-of-living has skyrocketed, according to the Hope Rescue Center in south-east Wales, which says it’s received 300 calls in the past 90 days from people who can’t afford to keep their animals.

According to the center, the abandoning of pets was caused by a “perfect storm” of increased dog ownership during the pandemic, combined with surging rents and other costs of living.

According to the BBC, UK households bought 3.2 million pets in the first year after the lockdown.

The heightening prices come as major figures in Germany’s left-liberal coalition government are being called on to resign as the country edges ever closer to what is expected to be a chaotic winter — the result of years of chronic mismanagement by the German political class.

Biden’s a Border for Me, But Not for Thee

President Joe Biden is all for open borders — except when it comes to the one around his own vacation spot.

He’s stuck taxpayers with a bill for close to half a million for a security fence around his Delaware beach house, a project ongoing since last September, contracted out to a local builder by the Department of Homeland Security.

The irony is rich: The same agency Biden has used to help erase the US southern border is overseeing a wall around the president’s ocean hideaway.

Celebrated Galileo Manuscript Deemed a Fake

The University of Michigan has deemed a manuscript it has long attributed to Galileo Galilei to be a forgery created in the 1930s.

“After an internal investigation of the findings of Nick Wilding, professor of history at Georgia State University, the library has concluded that its ‘Galileo manuscript’ is in fact a 20th-century forgery,” the University stated, per the Washington Examiner. “We’re grateful to Professor Wilding for sharing his findings, and are now working to reconsider the manuscript’s role in our collection.”

The forgery contained a fake copy of a sketch by Galileo of the moons orbiting Jupiter. Said sketch was “the first time someone had documented a celestial body orbiting a planet that was not Earth,” according to the Examiner.

Elon Musk Subpoenas Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey

Elon Musk has subpoenaed Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey as the Tesla chief executive prepares for a legal battle on Oct. 17 in the Delaware Court of Chancery over the termination of his $44 billion acquisition.

Dorsey, who handed over the chief executive reins to Parag Agrawal after stepping down last year, announced his support for Musk’s bid back in April.

“In principle, I don’t believe anyone should own or run Twitter. It wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a company,” Dorsey tweeted at the time. “Solving for the problem of it being a company however, Elon is the singular solution I trust. Fairfax County Parents Demand ‘Significant Changes’ to Ensure Children’s Safety After Counselor Firing

A group of parents in Fairfax County, Va., are urging the school district to do more to keep their children safe after the firing of a counselor who was convicted of committing a sex crime.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) superintendent Michelle Reid recently told parents that the school board fired a counselor at Glasgow Middle School in Lincolnia, Virginia, after learning he was convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor. Records show that the school district had employed him for months before his termination. The school board took action against Thornton as soon as they learned of the situation, according to Reid, who assumed the role of superintendent last month. She called the situation “deeply disturbing” and pledged an “independent investigation” by outside counsel.

Female Suspect Arrested at Atlanta Airport After City Center Shootings

ATLANTA, Aug 22 (Reuters) — Police arrested a female suspect at Atlanta’s international airport on Monday, ending an hours-long search after shootings in the city center that left two dead and a third wounded.

The Atlanta Police Department said the shootings were not random and the victims were likely targeted.

Responding to a report of a shooting at around 1:45 PM (1745 GMT), police found two people at an upscale condominium building near Colony Square, an office and shopping complex in Atlanta’s Midtown area. One died and the other was taken to a hospital, police said.

While officers were at the first location, police received another call about a shooting less than a mile to the southeast at a high-rise office building, where the third victim was found.

That person also appeared to have been shot and later died at a hospital, police said.

Officers were investigating the connection between the two locations. Initial information indicated that a female suspect was responsible for both incidents, police said.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Announces Plans for Private Military Force

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has re-established the Florida State Guard, a state-controlled private military force.

The Florida State Guard, which existed during the World War II era, would not be controlled by the Pentagon and would be a separate, non-federal entity.

“Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the reestablishment of the Florida State Guard and introduced the new director of this emergency-focused civilian volunteer force, retired Marine Corps. Lieutenant Colonel Chris Graham. By bringing back the Florida State Guard, Florida now joins 22 other states and territories with state-level defense forces, and many other states have laws on the books allowing for the activation of these organizations. Florida will add 400 members of the Florida State Guard to respond to a projected active hurricane season, and more than 1,200 individuals have already expressed interest in joining. To learn more about this opportunity to serve your fellow Floridians under the direction of Florida’s elected officials,” DeSantis’ office said in a press release.

“The U.S. military has been kicking out great service members over the Biden administration’s unacceptable COVID vaccine mandate, and they are even targeting members of the National Guard. The bureaucrats in D.C. who control our National Guard have also refused to increase the number of guardsmen despite our increasing population, leaving Florida with the second worst National Guardsman to resident ratio. By reestablishing the Florida State Guard under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Graham, we have a great opportunity to expand our capability to help people in times of need or disaster,” DeSantis said…

Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder for Neck Stabbing in Durango

Durango police describe attack as unprovoked

A Shiprock man was being held Monday at the La Plata County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder for stabbing another man in the neck with a kitchen knife.

The unprovoked attack occurred about 11:05 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of Main Avenue, said Brice Current, assistant chief with the Durango Police Department.

“The injury was really close to an artery, and he possibly could have died if it was within an inch or so (closer),” Current said.

The victim, Jose Luis Delucio Diaz, 34, was in “stable condition” Monday at Mercy Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Diaz told police he was sitting at a table in front of Dreams of Tibet when a man approached him and stabbed him in the neck.

Diaz stood up and walked toward the intersection at 10th Street and Main Avenue and received help from three other men. While receiving assistance, Diaz pointed toward the man who stabbed him, according to an arrest affidavit. The three men then helped police identify the suspect.

Bill Smith, 58, was being held Monday on $25,000 bail.

Smith told police he believed he was being followed and that a group of people were attempting to harm him, according to an arrest affidavit. He said two women began talking to him, and he believed they were trying to lure him into a trap. He said a group of eight to 10 people “tried to bunch up on me.”

Smith also told police he had been punched on the left side of the head during an interaction with Diaz but later said he was punched on the right side of the head. Police found no injuries to suggest he had been hit, Current said.

Security Guard Shoots, Kills Man Outside Phoenix Nightclub in Case of Self-Defense, Police Say

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A man is dead after reportedly being shot by a security guard outside a downtown Phoenix nightclub Sunday night. And police are investigating it as a case of self-defense.

Police were called to the area of Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street around 8:30 p.m. and officers soon found a man on the ground with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to an area hospital where he died a short time later. He’s been identified as Travonte Hayes, 28.

The club nearby, Tru Ultra Lounge, had been hosting an event Sunday night and detectives learned that Hayes had been kicked out of the establishment earlier in the evening. Police say Hayes later returned and pointed a gun at a security guard before trying to go back inside. That’s when Hayes was shot.

Video of Man Stabbing Shark in Head on New Smyrna Beach Stuns Some. Here’s Why it’s Legal in Florida

FWC officials say 2 men harvesting the shark from the shore did not violate the law

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A video of two men dragging a shark across the New Smyrna Beach shore and stabbing it in the head surfaced Saturday, leaving many social media users stunned and questioning the legality of the practice.

“You should not be doing that with animals,” said the woman in the video shared on Twitter. “Please do not do anything to it… Why are you doing that?”

One of the men who captured the shark responded that it was “a legal harvest” and “natural”.

“I’m taking it to eat and feed my family,” the other man said.

So, News 6 reached out to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission about the video to ask the question dividing viewers: Is harvesting a shark from the shore legal?

“It is common practice for anglers to euthanize sharks after landing for ethical and safety concerns. This video is not currently under investigation as no violation of state law regarding the method of harvest occurred,” FWC officials said in a statement.

48% of Criminal Acts in Paris Are Committed by Foreigners, 55% in Marseille, Says France’s Interior Minister

Underlining the enormous role foreigners play in France’s crime wave, the country’s own Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin acknowledged that 48 percent of criminal acts in France’s biggest city, Paris, were committed by foreigners, while they accounted for 55 percent of crimes in Marseille, and 39 percent in Lyon.

The numbers are even more shocking when it is taken into account that only 7.4 percent of France’s population is foreign-born, meaning foreigners account for an enormously outsized role in crime in some of France’s biggest population centers.

Polling Shows That Ruling Conservative Party in Poland Has Good Chance of Staying in Power

Polling shows Poland’s conservative Law and Justice party (PiS) has a good chance of beating the country’s left-wing opposition, according to Polish sociology professor Henryk Domanski.

The professor, who is a sociologist at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), told Poland’s Rzeczpospolita newspaper that polling shows the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) at 36-37 percent have stayed stable despite the fact that Brussels is blocking Poland’s allocation of funds from the EU Recovery Fund. He said he believes that this means the ruling party’s message is striking home with its core supporters and reinforcing the view that the EU is guilty of trying to subjugate Poland. So far, the Polish public is blaming the opposition which has supported withholding these funds.

‘The Real Historical France Has Ceased to Exist’ — Hungarian in Assassination Team Who Tried to Kill France’s De Gaulle Believes He Did the Right Thing

The Hungarian member of the team that wanted to assassinate then French President Charles de Gaulle 30 years ago on Aug. 20 still thinks his motivation was just, Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet reports.

The assassination attempt was committed by the French Secret Army Organization (OAS), who believed he had betrayed France by handing over then French colony Algeria to the Algerian nationalists.

“De Gaulle simply handed over Algeria to the ‘most extreme Arabs,’ the National Liberation Front, and the Algerian French, known as the ‘Black Legs’ had to flee,” Lajos Marton told Magyar Nemzet over the telephone from his home near Paris.

“The country has been going downhill ever since, the real historical France has ceased to exist. The youth has gone wild, and the newspapers are already arguing whether the country will be able to defend itself at all.”

I like the hypocrisy of all this: Healthy, publicly known world class athlete is denied access, while hundreds of thousands of undocumented foreigners are let in. They are consistent in their hypocrisy, I’ll give them that.

  2. In “Europe and the EU”, a story says that De Gaulle underwent an assassination attempt 30 years ago, which means 22 August 1992.

Well this is a surprise because he died in 1970.

Actually the attempt occurred 30 years before that on 22 August 1962.

The film The Day of the Jackal is based on it.
