Video transcript:
00:03 | Let’s go live with Beatriz Martinez, right now.
00:06 | There is so much stir over the trial about vaccination today.
00:10 | Please explain it to us.
00:14 | Yes, a reminder that this hearing had been scheduled for 9am,
00:19 | where both the Government and Pfizer are supposed to come
00:23 | to provide clarification on Covid-19 vaccines, primarily with regard to children.
00:27 | A reminder that judge Recarey has complied with a specific request.
00:32 | And today both the Government and Pfizer are supposed to appear in court.
00:39 | They have informed us that the Government’s legal representatives have arrived.
00:43 | No well-known government official is present here, besides their attorneys.
00:47 | On the other side, there is the plaintiff’s attorney.
00:52 | Nevertheless, as you can see from the images recorded by Cesar,
00:57 | there are several people demonstrating against vaccines outside of the courthouse.
01:03 | No, we are not against vaccines, actually.
01:06 | A gentleman here is telling me that actually they are against Covid-19 vaccines only.
01:12 | There are so many people here with some signs
01:17 | specifying that they are against anti-Covid-19 vaccines, as the gentleman here was pointing out.
01:22 | Not against all vaccines, just this vaccine. They are waiting here, to find out how this plays out.
01:28 | There is also law enforcement.
01:31 | We have also spotted Deputy Cesar Vega in this gathering, besides several other people.
01:38 | As for the government officials, the Secretary of the Presidency,
01:44 | Alvaro Delgado, was asked about this judicial convening yesterday.
01:50 | He said that they would provide the court with all the information
01:55 | concerning the agreements concluded with Pfizer, and this vaccine.
02:00 | In the last few hours even the Pediatricians’ Association has revealed their support for the vaccine.
02:05 | And that they recommend this vaccine, specifically in regard to children.
02:11 | Let us listen to what Delgado said about this issue, yesterday.
02:16 | Tomorrow the government, having received a judicial notice, will appear in court, of course.
02:21 | And they will appear while remaining faithful to three principles
02:25 | that have been fundamental throughout the pandemic.
02:28 | The first is transparency. That is, to provide all the information that needs to be provided.
02:32 | What we have been doing for these two years — which have been so difficult
02:36 | for Uruguayans — is to be transparent with people.
02:39 | By constantly providing people with information: good things, bad things, risks.
02:43 | Always showing up, being there for the people.
02:46 | And tomorrow, when they ask us for information,
02:50 | we will provide them with it, with absolute transparency,
02:54 | remaining faithful to one of the principles we have always obeyed, when the pandemic started.
02:58 | The results are there to be seen.
03:01 | The second principle is commitment. Throughout the pandemic — and in this instance as well —
03:06 | the Government has been acting with a large sense of institutional and governmental commitment.
03:11 | Because they are taking care of the population, of course.
03:15 | We have been a government whose main purpose has been to take care of the people.
03:18 | By preventing the economy from ceasing to function, yet by taking care of the people’s health.
03:23 | And that’s why from abroad, Uruguay is perceived as one of the role models
03:29 | with the highest levels of approval, concerning the management of the pandemic.
03:35 | I think this is not such a discussed topic anymore.
03:38 | Some do discuss it, but in general, it is not that discussed anymore.
03:43 | And the third principle is the scientific backing.
03:50 | So: transparency, a sense of commitment, and being backed by science. |
