Mask requirement: Green politician Dahmen speaks of a “big lockdown” in autumn
Personal responsibility alone is not enough, says Janosch Dahmen. Masks are not worn very often at the moment. Younger people should also get the fourth vaccination.
The Green health politician Janosch Dahmen wants to enforce a mask requirement indoors. In his view, there is a risk of a situation in autumn that “will get so bad again that the whole country has to be shut down with a big lockdown.” In the ARD Morning Magazine on Tuesday Dahmen said that there is therefore a need for “precautionary decisions now that ensure that we don’t get into such a bad situation in the first place.”
Dahmen mentioned wearing masks indoors as an effective measure. “We can see at the moment that personal responsibility alone is not enough,” said the Green politician. At the moment, often no mask is worn in closed rooms, “which makes it super easy for the virus.”
“Here we need a legal basis for the fall that masks are consistently worn indoors,” said Dahmen. He is confident of reaching an agreement on this point with the FDP coalition partner. “We have a sufficient scientific basis for protection against infection through masks, we will now discuss that together,” said Dahmen.
The summer must also be used for further Corona vaccinations, he added. “We now need a broad-based booster vaccination campaign for the fourth vaccination, not only for those over 70, but also for younger people, so that we can start the autumn with fresh vaccination protection.”

Well, I’ve had four shots so far, with no adverse effects, and am due for my fifth in August; but I am 74, and on immunosuppressants, so any adverse long-term effects seem less threatening than the immediate loss of freedom to travel, with my partner, before we get too old.
For some, masks are indeed insufficient. To prevent airborne aural infections amongst the particularly gullible I recommend, in my completely scientific opinion, the wearing of a tightly sealed plastic bag around the neck by these public officials.
