Fed Hikes Interest Rates by 0.75 Percentage Point for Second Consecutive Time to Fight Inflation
The Federal Reserve on Wednesday enacted its second consecutive 0.75 percentage point interest rate increase as it seeks to tamp down runaway inflation without creating a recession.
In taking the benchmark overnight borrowing rate up to a range of 2.25%-2.5%, the moves in June and July represent the most stringent consecutive action since the Fed began using the overnight funds rate as the principal tool of monetary policy in the early 1990s.
While the fed funds rate most directly impacts what banks charge each other for short-term loans, it feeds into a multitude of consumer products such as adjustable mortgages, auto loans and credit cards. The increase takes the funds rate to its highest level since December 2018.

The consumer price index in the June quarter soared at the steepest pace since the middle of 2001, after unemployment last month fell to a 48-year low of 3.5 per cent.

McDonald’s and Chipotle Mexican Grill say customers squeezed by inflation are choosing cheaper menu items and visiting their restaurants less often, signaling trends that could be hitting the broader restaurant industry.
The two companies were among the first restaurant chains to report their second-quarter results. Wingstop, Starbucks and Taco Bell owner Yum Brands are all scheduled to release their earnings reports within the next week.
Starting around mid-May, Chipotle said on Tuesday that low-income customers were visiting its restaurants less frequently, leading to slowing traffic. Earlier in the day, McDonald’s executives also said some low-income customers have been switching to its value menu or opting out of combo meals to save money. But McDonald’s executives added that the chain is also benefiting from customers trading down from more expensive full-service or fast-casual restaurants.

Grand Jury Indicts Highland Park Parade Shooting Suspect for 117 Felony Counts, Including Murder
The man accused of opening fire on an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago has been indicted by a grand jury on 21 first-degree murder counts, 48 counts of attempted murder and 48 counts of aggravated battery, representing the seven people killed and dozens wounded in the attack on a beloved holiday event.
Prosecutors previously filed seven murder charges against Robert E. Crimo III. They announced the grand jury’s decision to indict him on 117 felony charges on Wednesday.
Attorneys for Crimo have not made a formal response yet to any of the charges he faces in the July Fourth shooting in downtown Highland Park, Illinois. A message left with the county’s public defender’s office on Wednesday was not immediately returned.

LPD: Woman Stabbed to Death Was Pregnant, Two Suspects Arrested for Murder, Feticide
A woman who was killed in a stabbing on Fort Drive Wednesday was approximately 20 weeks pregnant, according to the LaGrange Police Department.
Breanna Burgess’ body was found in the area of Fort Drive at approximately 2:35 a.m. Wednesday morning after being stabbed. The LPD said Wednesday night that two suspects had been identified and arrested — Curteze Avery and Shallandra Freeman. Detectives determined that Avery, Freeman, and Burgess had been acquaintances for several years and the victim was targeted, according to LPD.
Avery and Freeman were located at their home on Alton Drive along with evidence of the crime. Both suspects were arrested and charged with murder and feticide.
The suspects are being held without bond. This investigation is active and anyone with information is urged to contact members of the LaGrange Police Department.

N.Y. Law Limiting Court Protest Survives 1st Amendment Challenge
A New York law that limits protests near courthouses can withstand a broad First Amendment challenge, the Second Circuit ruled Wednesday in partially vacating a federal trial court’s injunction against the law.
But the injunction issued by the US District Court for the Southern District of New York may stay in place as it relates to the activities of the plaintiff who brought the challenge, Michael Picard, the opinion by Judge Gerard E. Lynch said.

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) — The two protesters who were arrested by Minneapolis Police outside Dave Chappelle’s show Friday at the Varsity Theater and then jailed over the weekend have both been released without being charged — though the cases still remain open and active.
So far, police and jail records indicate that five people were arrested at the protests, which were in response to comments Chapelle made last year questioning trans identity. Two of those arrests were on suspension of vandalism, possibly related to sidewalk chalk. Operations Resume at Port of Oakland Following Truck Blockade Protests
(The Center Square) — Operations at the Port of Oakland resumed this week after several days of disruptions caused by truckers protesting a California labor law.
Truckers protesting Assembly Bill 5, California’s “gig worker law,” disrupted operations at the port last week, blocking cargo from moving in or out of the port and stoking fears that a prolonged shutdown would cause California ports “to further suffer market share losses to competing ports,” Port of Oakland Executive Director Danny Wan said last week.
According to a statement released Monday by the port, protesters moved to a designated “free speech zone,” allowing operations to resume on Saturday. The protests stalled the flow of certain international commerce, such as medical supplies, auto parts, livestock and manufacturing parts, according to the port.

Suspect in Kavanaugh Assassination Plot Planned to Target Two Other Justices: Report
The California man allegedly behind a foiled assassination attempt against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh planned the attack for weeks before he traveled to the justice’s Maryland home, according to a newly released FBI search-warrant application.
Nicholas John Roske, 26, was arrested outside of Kavanaugh’s home last month after he told 911 dispatchers he was having suicidal thoughts and that he had come “from California to kill a specific” Supreme Court justice. Authorities found a Glock 17 handgun with two magazines and ammunition, a tactical knife, pepper spray, zip ties, a hammer, a screwdriver, and other gear in Roske’s backpack.
The FBI search-warrant application, obtained by Fox News, reveals Roske was allegedly planning to target at least two other unnamed members of the Court.

Farmers Slam Trudeau Over Rising Fertilizer Costs
Canadian farmers slammed Justin Trudeau over rising fertilizer costs resulting from his decision to put tariffs on Russian fertilizer.
According to Ryan Koeslag, executive director of Ontario Bean Growers, tariffs on Russian fertilizer are wreaking havoc on the Canadian Agriculture Sector and the ability of farmers to merely keep their heads above water.
“Around one-third [of the 2022 shipments] had not been delivered into Ontario yet when that tariff was applied, and some of those ships were even being told that they would have to turn around,” Koeslag told CBC News in an interview. “… It’s hard to be a green farmer when you’re operating in the red.”
He also wonders why Canadian farmers are being forced to flip the bill for the war in Ukraine, despite other G7 countries abstaining from imposing such tariffs as they knew it would hurt their citizens.

Four Toronto Doctors Die Within One Week of COVID Booster Expansion
Four doctors in the Greater Toronto Area died within the same week after COVID vaccine booster eligibility was expanded.
First, 50-year-old Dr. Paul Hannam, the now-former Chief of Emergency Medicine at North York General Hospital, died while jogging on July 16.
“Olympic sailor, marathon runner, family man, ED director at NYGH, a sweet, thoughtful, compassionate and gentle man died suddenly today on a run. The quintessential mensch. Hug someone you love,” tweeted a colleague.
The other three doctors worked at Trillium Health Partners. Dr. Lorne Segall, aged 49, died on July 17. Dr. Stephen McKenzie passed away on July 18, and Dr. Jakub Sawicki on July 21.
When the news first broke, speculation was high that there could be a relation to the COVID vaccine booster expansion being the week prior.
As reported by the Toronto Sun’s Joe Warmington, hospitals are denying that any of the doctors’ deaths were related to COVID vaccines, though they will not discuss the supposed alternative cause.

Germany: World’s Largest Chemical Company Cuts Ammonia Production
If you thought food shortages were bad now, you haven’t seen anything yet, as the world’s largest chemical producer plans to cut the production of ammonia (a key ingredient in fertilizers).
Headquartered in Germany, BASF, the world’s largest chemical producer, has stated that it plans to cut ammonia production even further to cope with skyrocketing natural gas prices.
“We are reducing production at facilities that require large volumes of natural gas, such as ammonia plants,” BASF CEO Martin Brudermüller said in a media call.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Dutch farmers protested government plans to reduce nitrogen emissions by dumping manure and garbage Wednesday on highways and setting fires alongside roads — the latest actions in a summer of discontent. Simon Isherwood, a rail conductor, won an unfair dismissal case against his employer, the West Midland Trains (WMT), after he was fired in March 2021 for criticizing diversity training on a hot mic.

Hundreds of Protesters Storm Iraqi Parliament Over Nomination of Iran-Backed Official
Hundreds of Iraqi protesters have breached Baghdad’s parliament, chanting anti-Iran curses in a demonstration against a nominee for prime minister by Iran-backed parties.

YouTube Censors Videos for Saudi Arabia
YouTube has removed some advertisements that Saudi Arabia regulators deemed offensive because they contradicted Islamic and the Kingdom’s societal standards.
On Sunday, Saudi Arabia’s Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) and the General Commission for Audiovisual Media (GCAM) released a statement ordering YouTube to remove the offensive ads. The statement threatened legal action if the ads were not removed.

Gas Prices Soar as Russia Cuts German Supply
Gas prices have soared after Russia further cut gas supplies to Germany and other central European countries after threatening to earlier this week.
European gas prices rose almost 2%, trading close to the record high set after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Critics accuse the Russian government of using gas as a political weapon.
Russia has been cutting flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany, with it now operating at less than a fifth of its normal capacity.
Before the Ukraine War, Germany imported over half of its gas from Russia and most of it came through Nord Stream 1 — with the rest coming from land-based pipelines.

Russia’s military is likely to start an operational pause in the coming weeks after making only incremental progress recently on the battlefield, the chief of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service said on July 21.
Richard Moore, head of the service known as MI6, told the Aspen Security Forum in the U.S. state of Colorado that the progress that Russian forces have made in Ukraine in recent months is relatively small.
“We are talking about a small number of miles of advance. When they take a town, there is nothing left. It is obliterated,” he said.
He added that MI6 assesses that the Russians will increasingly find it difficult to supply manpower over the next few weeks.
“I think they are about to run out of steam,” he said.

Russia Captures Power Station, Redeploys Troops Toward Southern Ukraine
July 28 (Reuters) — Russian forces took over Ukraine’s second-biggest power plant and are conducting a “massive redeployment” of troops to three southern regions, a Ukrainian presidential adviser said, amid expectations of a Ukrainian counter-offensive.
Russian-backed forces said on Wednesday they had captured the Soviet-era coal-fired Vuhlehirsk power plant intact, in what was Moscow’s first significant gain in more than three weeks.
Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, confirmed the capture of the plant in the eastern Donetsk region, but said it was only a “tiny tactical advantage” for Russia.
The Russian redeployment to the south appeared to be a switch to strategic defence from offence, he added, with troops sent to Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

Unrest prevailed as a huge crowd gathered outside Bellare police station in Sullia taluk after news of Praveen’s murder spread like wildfire.
However, following the intervention of the police, the funeral procession was restricted. The body was directly taken to his house in Bellare.
Praveen, who was an active member in Sangh Parivar, eked a living by running a broiler shop in Bellare.
Section 144 was imposed in the Puttur area and security was tightened as protests erupted.
Following Praveen’s murder, the Sangh Parivar has called for a bandh in Puttur, Kadaba and Sullia taluk on Wednesday. Sangh Parivar also decided to take out a procession carrying the body of Praveen via Puttur, Darbe, Savanoor, Kaniyoor and Bellare at 9.30 am. To prevent any untoward incident, police security has been stepped up in Puttur, Sullia and Kadaba taluk.
Heavy security forces were also deployed in Bellare village of the Dakshina Kannada district in the wake of this incident. Additional police forces have also been dispatched from Mangalore and Udupi to ensure law and order.
Police suspecting it as a retaliation to another murder in Bellare have stepped up security in market and surrounding areas. Bellare police have registered a case and are investigating. Local people say that Praveen was murdered in retaliation to the murder of Masood in Bellare. So, local people attended in the protest against Praveen’s murder was full of anger to the Jihadi miscreants taking control over the areas.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday assured that the culprits involved in the “heinous act” will be arrested soon and be punished as per law.
Meanwhile, five special police teams have been formed to nab the accused. “Five special police teams have been formed to trace the accused. Out of the five, three teams have been sent to Kerala and Madikeri and Hassan in Karnataka respectively,” District Superintendent of Police Rushikesh Sonanay informed the media persons accordingly.

Population of Minority Religions Including Hindu and Buddhist Decrease Further in Bangladesh
The number of people belonging to minority religions in the context of Bangladesh has decreased, according to the latest census conducted in 2022.
Atul Das | HENB | Dhaka | July 27, 2022:: Numbers of religious minorities decrease further in Islamic Bangladesh. The census shows that the ratio of Hindu population and Buddhist population stands at 7.95% and 0.61% of the whole population.
Whereas, Hindus comprised 8.54% of the population and Buddhists 0.61% according to the 2011 census.
So, the Hindu population has decreased by 0.59% in the last 11 years.
The preliminary report of the “Population and Housing Census 2022” done by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) was released on Wednesday at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital.
Dildar Hossain, project director of BBS, highlighted various aspects of the report.
According to the census majority of the population or 91.04% Bangladesh’s population are Muslim. In 2011, the percentage of Muslims was 90.39%. So, the ratio of Muslims has increased 0.65%.
The ratio of Christian people also decreased from 0.31% in 2011 to 0.30% in 2022.

Also, other minority religions which comprised 0.41% of the population in 2011 now comprise 0.12%.
The first census in the independent country was conducted in 1974. At that time, the Hindu population was 13.5% of the total population.
The BBS 2011 Population and Housing Census report cites two reasons for the decline in the Hindu population in the country.
Firstly, there is out-migration of Hindus, i.e. Hindus are leaving the country. Secondly, the relatively low total fertility rate among the Hindu population. That is, Hindu couples give birth to relatively fewer children.
According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics report, Khulna division has the highest decline in Hindu population (1.33%).
In 2011, 12.85% of the population of the division were Hindus. This rate has come down to 11.52% this year.
Among the eight divisions, Khulna has the third highest Hindu population.
According to the 2022 census Sylhet division has the highest Hindu population of 13.5%, but the ratio was 14.05% in 2011.
In Rangpur division, the Hindu population has decreased from 13.21% in 2011 to 12.98% in 2022.
Mymensingh division has the lowest percentage of people belonging to the Hindu community (3.92%).
Preliminary reports of the 2022 census show that the average annual population growth rate is 1.22%.
The average population growth rate in the 2011 census was 1.37%.
The population density has increased to 1,119 people per square kilometre which was 976 in the last census of 2011.
The Population and Housing Census started simultaneously on 15 June across the country. The census was supposed to end on 21 June, but due to floods in the north-eastern districts, the census continued till 28 June in those districts.
After the formation of Bangladesh in 1971, the first census was conducted in 1974. In that year, the rate of Hindu in Bangladesh was 13.50 percent. During the celebration of 50 years of independence, it was reduced by almost half. Several reasons are mentioned for this. This includes migration and exodus due to religious persecution on minority people by the increasing Islamic fanatics in the country and it is also indicative of the low fertility rate of Hindu women.
According to the 2021 census, the population of Bangladesh has increased to 16 crores. The population has increased at the rate of 1.22 percent annually in the country. But the Hindus and other minorities are shrinking gradually. BJP in India has already raised questions about why the percentage of Hindus in the population of Bangladesh is decreasing. Opposition leader of WB Legislative Assembly Suvendu Adhikari questioned the matter on a social media platform.

China Locks Down 1 MILLION People in Wuhan Over 4 Asymptomatic COVID Cases
Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, has locked down a district of nearly one million people since discovering four asymptomatic cases, under the country’s strict zero-COVID policy.
Officials in Wuhan’s district of Jiangxia, which is home to over 970,000 people, announced Wednesday that they would enforce three days of “temporary control measures.” According to the Wall Street Journal, public venues such as bars and theaters would be closed, but the restrictions don’t stop there. France: Disabled Man Beaten to Death by African Thieves in Paris
Police arrested two African migrants suspected of killing a disabled man during a brutal robbery in Paris last week, according to reports.

Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Advising Hospitals to Use Term ‘Father’s Milk’
The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine in the U.S. has issued a new guide, advising hospitals and health carers to change their language to be more “gender-inclusive”.
The guide lists “traditional terms” such as ‘breast milk’ and then suggests woke alternatives including “human milk”, “parent’s milk”, and most ridiculously “father’s milk.”

DeSantis Files Complaint Against Miami Bar That Hosted Drag Show for Children
The DeSantis administration on Tuesday filed a complaint against a Miami bar that hosted a sexualized drag show in which partially nude performers engaged with children.
The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) issued the notice to the R House bar, located in the artistic district known as Wynwood in Miami, giving it 21 days to respond, Breitbart first reported. If the authorities determine that the bar violated local ordinances, it could have its liquor license revoked.
The complaint was issued after a video of a recent performance at the bar’s drag brunch went viral. A Canadian gender studies teacher posted a disturbing video back in May in which she advised other teachers to omit references to a student’s gender identity or name from their report cards, to hide their transgender status from unsupportive parents. Voters Want Politicians to Condemn Pro-Abortion Vandalism and Protests at Justices’ Homes

Johnson is believed to become the new secretary general of NATO, writes the British Telegraph.
The outgoing prime minister was forced out of his post after a series of scandals that included partying while at the Corona shutdown and covering up gay harassment by a male party colleague.

In a speech in Romania at the weekend, Viktor Orban warned of the consequences of “race mixing” between Europeans and non-Europeans.
He said that throughout history Europeans have fought against Turks and Arabs to avoid this miscegenation.
The wording has caused a stir. At home, Orban has been condemned both by liberals in the opposition and by Jewish organisations.
Zsuzsa Hegedus has served as a senior adviser to the Hungarian prime minister and has known him for 20 years.

But now she has handed in her resignation, calling the speech “purely Nazi”, according to the BBC.
“I cannot understand how you could avoid noticing that the speech you gave is a pure Nazi outburst worthy of Joseph Goebbels,” Zsuzsa Hegedus writes.
