Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/14/2022

A sustained drought in Texas has caused a shortage of feed for cattle, prompting ranchers to send millions of cattle to slaughter to cull their herds. The price of beef is expected to drop over the next few months as a consequence. However, the resulting shortage of young animals for the next two to three years means a dramatic price increase will come along later.

In other news, Russia mounted a deadly attack on the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia using Kalibr cruise missiles launched from a submarine in the Black Sea.

Air Force Vaccine Mandate Temporarily Overturned by Federal Court

The vaccine mandate put into place by the Air Force in September 2021 to require servicemen to get vaccinated against Covid-19 hit a snag on Thursday, when a federal court in Ohio issued a temporary restraining order preventing the enactment of that mandate when there is a request for a religious exemption.

“The facts show Defendants [the Air Force] have engaged in a pattern of denying religious accommodation requests,” Judge Matthew McFarland stated in the order, finding in favor of those servicemen who seek relief under the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. To date, the Air Force has granted some one percent of religious accommodation requests, and most of those are servicemen on their way out of the Air Force.

The blockbuster new movie ‘Alex’s War’ has surged into the top 2 of Apple’s pre-orders chart, beating the likes of Jurassic World, Elvis and Justice League.

The film by acclaimed director Alex Lee Moyer is set to be released in theaters later this month and asks the question, “Who is Alex Jones? Is he a dangerous lunatic or a patriotic hero?”

In a stunning sign that efforts to censor the movie have failed, the documentary is now placed at number 2 in Apple’s top pre-orders chart, currently sitting just behind Top Gun: Maverick and in front of numerous big budget mainstream movies including Elvis and Jurassic World.

As Ranchers Sell Their Calf Producing Cows, Major Cattle Deficit Predicted in 2024

The drought hit a turning point in Texas last weekend as ranchers made a mad dash to the sale barns, liquidating unprecedented amounts of beef cattle. Cattle industry leader Corbitt Wall, host of the FEEDER FLASH at NationalBeefWire.com gives an update on drought conditions across Texas. In his words, the effects of this drought combined with economic factors (fuel and fertilizer prices) are “unbelievable” with 3 mile line of trailers for the dropoff line at Emory Texas sale barn. The sale barn received such a surplus that they were auctioning off cattle through 5am the next morning.

This sale barn was 30 miles south of me and I was an eyewitness to these unbelievable lines. My local sale barn was packed. It is real.

As far as I am finding, hay bales are at minimum $85 for 4×5’ rounds (if you can find them). $100-125 per bale by fall will not be out of the question. For reference, 2021 prices in my area were $50/bale for 5×6’ rounds.

This drought-induced cattle liquidation is going to disrupt our meat supply chain in previously unforeseen ways… which says a lot given everything it has been through in the past two years. The cows being sold at these sale barns are ones that would, in normal circumstances, be producing calves for 4-5 more years. Instead, they are going to feed lots. With so many productive cows heading to slaughter and not producing calves, the US is going to face a major beef cattle deficit in 2024.

Church Pastor Sees Crime, Offers Gun and Self Defense Class

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — The recent crime wave is pushing a local pastor to organize a series of classes to keep churchgoers safe.

Deadly Maine Shooting Deemed Self-Defense; No Charges Will be Filed

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Attorney General’s Office has determined that a deadly shooting in Augusta in May was a case of self-defense.

Augusta and State police were called to Ready Road Service Towing Company on Riverside Drive in Augusta just before 11 a.m. on May 20. When they arrived, they found the body of 36-year-old Tyler Morin of Lewiston. Police say he had been shot by 48-year-old Rob Drummond of Augusta.

Investigators have not commented on what prompted Drummond to shoot Morin.

With the ruling that the shooting was self-defense, the Attorney General’s Office says Drummond will not face criminal charges in the case.

Fauci Acknowledges Vaccines Don’t Protect “Overly Well” Against COVID Infection

White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci acknowledged during an appearance on Fox News that while vaccines may protect from symptoms of the virus, they “don’t protect overly well” when it comes to transmission of COVID.

Fauci made the comments on ‘Your World’ while talking to host Neil Cavuto.

Cavuto asked Fauci to respond to Americans who are unsure about taking another round of the vaccine.

“And they’re beginning to wonder about the regimen for treating it, whether you get two vaccination shots, whether you get a booster, another booster. They just don’t know. What do you tell them?” he asked.

Gov. DeSantis Signs Drug Price Transparency Order

As inflation skyrockets, it seems prices on everything are climbing — from groceries to lumber to airplane tickets. But in Florida, that trend may soon see a reversal when it comes to prescription drugs. On July 8th, Governor DeSantis signed Executive Order 22-164, which seeks to reduce prescription drug prices by promoting price transparency amongst pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs).

“Florida continues to lead the nation in ensuring accountability in the health care industry and in introducing reforms to combat rising prescription costs,” Governor DeSantis said in a news release. “This executive order requires accountability and transparency for pharmaceutical middlemen when doing business with the state, thereby reducing the upward pressure on prescription drug costs.”

LA DA George Gascon Seeks California Supreme Court Appeal in Battle Over Charging of Three-Strikes Cases

FIRST ON FOX: Embattled Democratic Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon is once again looking to appeal a court’s findings that he “overstates his authority” and must charge cases as required under California’s “three-strikes” law.

Millions of Texas Cattle Slaughtered Due to Lack of Feed

The multiple 100-degree days North Texas is facing are not just putting a strain on our power grid, but also on the state’s cattle industry. The high temperatures are evaporating stock tanks [water troughs] and combined with the drought, there isn’t enough grass to feed the animals.

Last week, USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey reported that 80% of Texas’ pastures were in either poor to very poor conditions. Ranchers have to choose between bringing hay from elsewhere, which would be more expensive with the recent gas price increase, or cutting their herd numbers down.

Ranchers fear this drought could be as bad as 2011’s that cost Texas agriculture $7.62 billion. Statistics released early this week showed that 97% of the state is going through some kind of drought…

“Millions of cattle went to slaughter strictly because of the drought because they had nowhere else to go,” said Jon Taggart to the Forth Worth Star-Telegram. Taggart produces grass-fed beef, and last spring saw only three inches of rain in May, less than half of 2019-2021’s records. Not only did less forage grow this spring, but the little that did is now drying up.

Another reason for the severity of the current drought is that Texas’ soil gets moisture during the low temperatures and the steady rainfalls of winter, but this hasn’t happened this year. “2022 has been one for the record books,” rancher Lloyd Arthur told the Texas Tribune, “We’ve always compared years to 2011, as far as droughts and whatnot, but 2022 is worse. We don’t have any underground moisture.” Arthur’s cotton farm is located outside Lubbock, one of the most affected areas in the state.

At this point, ranchers are running out of time. Even if grass received sufficient water to grow, it would take too long to bounce back in time to feed the animals. CBS DFW reported that ranchers are selling their older animals and holding back on the youngest in hopes that the weather will get better, but as long as the drought goes on, cows will lose weight and value.

Neighborhood Locked Down, House on Fire in Compton After Shots Fired at Deputies

A man with a shotgun fired at deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, according to police.

A Compton neighborhood is locked down and a man with a shotgun is barricaded inside a building there after allegedly firing at Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies Thursday morning.

Newschopper 4 was over the scene, where a number of patrol cars were parked on the street and in a nearby parking lot.

According to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau, deputies were shot at, and the man is considered “an assault with a deadly weapon suspect.”

The deputies were not injured, according to the SIB.

They were initially responding to the building at 120 North Acacia Avenue due to reports of a gunshot victim.

The shots were fired at the deputies after they arrived to investigate the 7:14 a.m. call. The man was barricaded inside the building by 8 a.m.

Around 8:24 a.m., what appeared to be smoke began to emerge from the house…

Patrick Lawrence: The Imaginary War

It began when the Biden regime and the press misrepresented Russian aims in Ukraine. All else has flowed from it.

What were the policy cliques, “the intelligence community” and the press that serves both going to do when the kind of war in Ukraine they talked incessantly about turned out to be imaginary, a Marvel Comics of a conflict with little grounding in reality? I have wondered about this since the Russian intervention began on Feb. 24. I knew the answer would be interesting when finally we had one.

Now we have one. Taking the government-supervised New York Times as a guide, the result is a variant of what we saw as the Russiagate fiasco came unglued: Those who manufacture orthodoxies as well as consent are slithering out the side door…

Rumble Enables Ad Monetization for Live Streams on the Web

Video sharing platform Rumble has given live streamers a new revenue source by enabling ad monetization for live streams on the web. Rumble said that creators who are monetizing their live streams can expect a boost in revenue.

Rumble’s decision to expand the availability of live stream ad monetization comes as the world’s biggest video sharing platform, YouTube, is increasingly demonetizing creators. Once demonetized, creators can no longer earn ad revenue on YouTube and are also prevented from using its other monetization features such as Super Chats and Super Thanks (which let viewers tip creators by paying to leave pinned comments on their videos) and Memberships (which let creators offer premium content to their viewers).

The Presence of Pet Dogs Makes an Entire Neighborhood Safer

Crime remains among the top worries of people who live in cities. The possibility of being robbed, assaulted, or even killed while outside, doing normal activities in their neighborhood is an ongoing stress or for many urban dwellers. According to a new study from Ohio State University, one way to be safer from criminal activity is to live in a neighborhood where many people own pet dogs.

Crime in the Cities

It has long been known that the presence of a dog in your house offers protection from unwanted intruders. Numerous studies have shown that homes with dogs experience less theft and vandalism than those without dogs. Burglars tend to avoid homes that have dogs: One study even found that the presence of a “Beware of Dog” sign effectively reduces the likelihood of criminal break-ins. However, this new study suggests that having many dog owners in a neighborhood also leads to a reduction in the rates of street crimes.

Woman, 50, Allegedly Stabbed Three People in Two Counties, Tried to Stab Fourth

A 50-year-old woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stabbing three people in two counties, attempting to stab a fourth, and leading law enforcement agencies on a vehicle pursuit before being forced off the road on East Grand in Hot Springs Wednesday night.

Jeanine Downin, 50, who is not a resident of Arkansas, reportedly first stabbed a Hispanic male at the construction site for a Big Red Valero gas station at the intersection of Highway 128 and Highway 70 (East Grand) in Garland County shortly after 5 p.m., according to a news release from the Saline County Sheriff’s Department obtained Thursday.

Downin then drove to the Big Red Valero at 11580 Highway 70 in Saline County where she allegedly stabbed a second man in the chest while he was airing up a tire. Then she reportedly stabbed a female employee of the Valero in the upper arm outside the store before fleeing the scene.

All three stabbing victims were reportedly treated at hospitals and later released, the release said.

After fleeing the Valero, Downin allegedly approached a private residence on Crossroads in Saline County and attempted to stab another female before fleeing again on Highway 70 back into Garland County.

Downin was spotted by Arkansas State Police troopers who pursued her vehicle along with Garland County sheriff’s deputies and Saline County deputies.

The pursuit continued onto Spring Street and back onto Grand Avenue, eastbound away from Hot Springs, when state police used a Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT, maneuver on the vehicle, which rolled off the side of the service road near Ferrellgas, 2250 E. Grand, at around 5:43 p.m. Wednesday.

Downin was taken into custody and transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment where she was reportedly listed in critical condition late Wednesday, Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Courtney Kizer, the department’s public information officer, said Thursday. Downin’s condition Thursday was not known.

Downin had attempted to purchase a firearm within the last two weeks but was denied, the release said…

Krasnodebski acknowledged that sanctions have been felt by the Russian middle class, but says that they have not persuaded Russia to end the war. The Polish MEP believed that as the energy crisis intensifies, dissenting anti-war voices will only intensify, and this will allow Putin to be more effective in sanctioning the EU than vice-versa.

Germany: Electricity for Electric Cars Will Soon be More Expensive Than Petrol

So far, German owners of electric cars have come through the energy crisis relatively unscathed. But that could change. Wholesale prices on the Leipzig electricity exchange EEX reached a new record of 319 euros per megawatt hour at the end of last week. This means that they have more than tripled since the beginning of the year.

Within the last three weeks alone, the price on the exchanges for a kilowatt hour rose from 22 to now 31 cents. That is an increase of 41 percent and should not be confused with consumer prices. These are significantly higher. Even the abolition of the EEG levy of 3,7 cents could not stop the mega-inflation. And this rise has not really spilled over into prices at charging stations yet.

Individual providers such as Hamburg Energie already announced in June, i.e. before the new inflation shock, that they would increase prices by more than 60 percent.

The Post Millennial’s Katie Daviscourt Discusses the Farmer Rebellion Live From the Netherlands

On last night’s episode of the Ezra Levant Show, Sheila Gunn Reid filled in and was joined live from the Netherlands by Post Millennial reporter Katie Daviscourt, who has been covering the farmer protests alongside Rebel News reporters Lincoln Jay and Lewis Brackpool.

Dutch farmers have been rising up across the country and protesting to voice their opposition to potentially devastating ‘climate-friendly’ government policies that are in the process of being imposed on them against their will.

When asked by Sheila about her biggest takeaway so far from the farmers’ resistance movement, Katie said, “These farmers, they’re losing their livelihoods. They’re losing their farms that they have had for generations, up to hundreds of years.”

Weapons Are Trafficked From Ukraine to Organized Crime in Europe

A Tuesday report by the Financial Times revealed European nations are concerned weapons being sent into Ukraine are getting smuggled into the hands of dangerous criminal gangs.

The outlet reported, “A number of Nato member states are discussing with Kyiv some form of tracking system or detailed inventory lists for weapons supplied to Ukraine.”

“All these weapons land in southern Poland, get shipped to the border and then are just divided up into vehicles to cross: trucks, vans, sometimes private cars,” a source told the Financial Times. “And from that moment we go blank on their location and we have no idea where they go, where they are used or even if they stay in the country.”

US Undersecretary for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie Denise Jenkins issued an online press briefing on Tuesday, saying, “The US very seriously takes our responsibility to protect American origin defense technologies and prevent their diversion or illicit proliferation.”

Jenkins added, “We are confident in the Ukrainian government’s commitment to appropriately safeguard and account for US [weapons].” …

Czech Defense Minister Jana Cernochová isn’t very optimistic arms smuggling will be stopped, telling reporters on Friday, “It’s hard to avoid trafficking or smuggling — we didn’t achieve it in former Yugoslavia and probably won’t avoid it in Ukraine.” …

EU Parliament member Christine Anderson also posted to Twitter Wednesday, writing, “The #Ukraine war is supplying the #EU market with illegal weapons. Human trafficking is also booming. #Europe must act urgently.”

Investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald pointed out that those who warned of illegal weapons trafficking taking place in Ukraine when the war began were deemed traitors and Kremlin assets.

“Europol said its investigations indicated that weapons trafficking from Ukraine into the bloc to supply organised crime groups had begun and was a potential threat to EU security.”

‘Why Would You Get Rid of Your Farmers?’ Dutch Politician and Farmer Nynke Koopmans Discusses Ongoing Protests

For those who don’t know what is happening in the Netherlands, the Dutch government/WEF is imposing environmental policies on the agricultural sector in which their goal is to cut nitrogen emissions to the point where some farms are being forced to cut up to 95%. This includes cutting livestock, fertilizer usage, and the government forcibly taking a percentage of the farmers’ land. All under the guise of combatting climate change with the Agenda 2030 blueprint.

Hindu Girl Abducted by Muslim Radicals in Islamic Pakistan’s Sindh Province

Forced marriage of a Minor Hindu girl Kareena by Muslim abductor after converting her into Islam in Pakistan’s Sindh. Hindus protest.

Kavita Rana | HENB | Karachi | July 13, 2022:: Another case of atrocities on minority communities has come to light in Pakistan. In fact, a 16-year-old Hindu girl was abducted and forcibly married to a Muslim man in Sindh province. After the abduction, he was first allegedly converted to Islam by Mitthu Mian group of radicals.

According to reports, a week ago, a Hindu girl Kareena was kidnapped from Unnar Mulla Qazi Ahmed town of Dadu. Police have dismissed reports of kidnapping. Police said that Kareena eloped with a Muslim boy named Khaleel Rehman and got married in a Karachi court. The people of the minority community raised slogans against this statement of the police and demanded rescue of the victim Hindu girl. Though the abduction was made a week ago, the matter has been clearly surfaced only two days before.

As an effect of the protest, the police have arrested Khaleel Rehman’s father Asghar after registering a complaint. The girl’s family staged a sit-in in front of former President Asif Ali Zardari’s house in Nawabshah, on Tuesday demanding the return of Kareena.

This is not the first case of abduction, forced conversion and marriage of a minority girl in Pakistan. In March this year, a Hindu girl named Pooja Kumari Odd was shot dead in Sukkur district of Pakistan. The girl was murdered because she had opposed forced marriage and conversion. Such cases of abduction, conversion and forced marriage of Hindu minor girls happen in Pakistan on a regular basis infringing the rights of marginal minorities.

The American Sindhi Foundation has claimed that around 1,000 minority minor girls are abducted and converted and married to Muslim men every year in Sindh province. The Government of Pakistan has assured the safety of minorities on many occasions, but the atrocities on minorities are not stopping.

Lawsuit: Professor Sues University of Washington After Admins Punish Him for ‘Inappropriate’ Opinion

SEATTLE, July 13, 2022 — When Professor Stuart Reges challenged the University of Washington’s position on land acknowledgements, administrators punished him, undermining his academic freedom. Today, backed by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, Reges sued the university to vindicate his First Amendment right to express his opinion — even if it differs from the party line.

Colleges increasingly promote land acknowledgment statements that recognize indigenous ties to the land on which a college sits. On a list of syllabus “best practices,” UW’s computer science department encourages professors to include such a statement and suggests using language developed by the university’s diversity office “to acknowledge that our campus sits on occupied land.” The fact that the statement could be adapted seemed clear — until Reges wrote one that administrators did not like.

Ukraine Wants to Legalise Same-Sex Marriage Amid Reports of Crippling War Losses

New NATO hopeful Ukraine, may be legalising same-sex marriage after enough signatures were gained for the president to consider the proposal. Kiev’s Pride parade in 2019 incidentally was the largest event of the kind that the country had seen.

The petition has more than 28 000 signatures, which means that President Zelensky now has 10 days to respond, the BBC reported. Petitions in Ukraine that gather more than 25 000 signatures automatically trigger the president’s consideration.

It is not clear how same-sex marriages and civil partnerships will contribute the the dire situation in the country. According to the British Financial Times, “Ukraine’s international partners are sounding the alarm about the mounting pressure on Kiev’s public finances,” since the war has destroyed its tax revenue while allies struggle to provide financial support. The report suggests that without aid, there is no way in which Ukraine could win the war.
