GasBuddy reports the national average for gasoline at the pump has hit $5 per gallon, setting a new record in the U.S., as fuel inflation shows no signs of abating amid severe bottlenecks in refining and robust demand as peak driving season is underway.
“BREAKING: According to GasBuddy, the national average has reached $5 per gallon,” Petroleum analysis expert at GasBuddy, Patrick De Haan tweeted Thursday morning.

Hungarian Inflation Reaches Double Digits
For the first time in 20 years, Hungarian inflation shot above the 10 percent psychological threshold, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.
While the headline figure is certainly bad news for the country, Hungary’s peers are faring even worse: The latest data show inflation at 13.9 percent in Poland, 14.2 percent in Czechia, 13.8 percent in Romania, and 11.8 percent in Slovakia.

Two-Thirds of Americans Expect Inflation to Intensify, Poll Finds: ‘It’s All Expensive as Hell’
Two-thirds of Americans think inflation will get worse this year — prompting many to slash their savings while cutting back on going out to eat and finding ways to avoid driving, according to a new poll released Thursday.
The national survey of more than 1,000 adults in late April and early May found that 66% expect the prices of essential goods and services to increase in the next year, the Washington Post reported.

2 Arrested, Facing Murder Charges in Philadelphia Shooting
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two men are facing murder charges and have been arrested in Virginia in the death of two bystanders in last weekend’s shooting in a busy entertainment district in Philadelphia, officials said Thursday.
The men will be extradited to face charges in Philadelphia and will not be given bail in Saturday night’s shooting on South Street, city officials said at a news conference.
Three people died overall. Two of the people killed were bystanders, authorities have said.
Joanne Pescatore, homicide unit chief at the Philadelphia district attorney’s office, said that according to surveillance video, the two men, who are friends and had fled to Virginia together, fired randomly into the crowd in response to hearing gunshots down the block. It did not appear that the men and the victims knew one another…

An armed man who threatened to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was arrested outside the justice’s home in Maryland on Wednesday in the latest instance of violence and intimidation toward pro-lifers since the unprecedented Supreme Court draft opinion leak last month.
Nicholas John Roske, 26, of Simi Valley, California, was carrying a gun, ammunition, a knife, pepper spray, a screwdriver, zip ties, and other gear when he was arrested by Montgomery County Police Department officers in the early morning hours Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint.

Biden Approval Sinks to 22% Among Young Adults, 24% Among Hispanics: Poll
Approval of President Biden’s job performance slipped to just 33% in a poll released Wednesday by Quinnipiac University — as even key Democratic voting blocs such as young people and racial minorities give the president a big thumbs-down.
The survey, conducted June 3-6, found that 22% of Americans ages 18-34 approve of Biden’s performance — the lowest rating of any age group. Just 24% of Hispanic voters and 49% of black voters said they approve of Biden’s work.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek said in a press release that firefighters responded around 6:27 a.m. after reports of an explosion at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, located at 936 FM2436 in Hostyn. This is just south of La Grange and about 67 miles southeast of Austin.
Several deputies and fire departments responded including LaGrange Fire Department, Schulenburg Fire Department, Muldoon Fire Department, and Fayetteville Fire Department.
When fire crews arrived, they located an elderly woman inside who had suffered burns and was transported to Dell-Seton Hospital in Austin by Fayette County EMS.
Sheriff Korenek is asking the community to keep the victim in their prayers.

FBI agents raided the California home of Nicholas Roske, who has been charged with trying to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Federal officials Wednesday night converged on the Roske family’s one-story house in Simi Valley and busted down the front door after obtaining a search warrant.

Former House Rep Pleads Guilty to Ballot-Stuffing for Dems in Five Elections
A former congressman has pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to fraudulently create votes for Democratic candidates in five different election years.
Michael “Ozzie” Myers, 79, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of conspiracy to deprive voters of civil rights, bribery, obstruction of justice, falsification of voting records, and conspiring to illegally vote in a federal election.
Myers paid Philadelphia election officials upwards of $5,000 per election to add fraudulent votes on voting machines—a practice called “ringing up” votes—and to falsely certify the voting machine tallies were accurate.
Carried out in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 elections in Philadelphia, the scheme benefitted candidates for federal, state and local offices, including judicial candidates. According to the FBI, Myers solicited payments from candidates in the form of cash or checks, with some labelled as “consulting fees.”

Freeport LNG Explosion Raises Risk of European Winter Energy Crisis
A fire at one of the world’s biggest suppliers of liquefied natural gas has thrown Europe’s fragile energy security into doubt and spooked global gas markets.
Freeport LNG, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer in Texas, will shut its doors for at least three weeks, the company confirmed to CNN Business.
“The cause of the fire at Freeport LNG’s liquefaction facility on Quintana Island remains under investigation,” Heather Browne, a company spokesperson, said.
Europe has snapped up global stocks of LNG in recent months as it attempts to sharply pivot away from Russia’s natural gas exports. The region, including the United Kingdom, imported 28.2 million tons between February and April, according to Independent Commodity Intelligence Services — up 29% from the same period last year.
The United States is the world’s largest supplier of LNG, accounting for just over a fifth of global exports, according to data from analytics firm Vortexa. Output from the Freeport LNG facility makes up 18% of these exports…

House Conservatives Propose Balancing Budget in 7 Years With $16.6t in Cuts
The Republican Study Committee (RSC), the largest conservative caucus in the House, on Thursday released its annual model federal budget proposal, which the committee says would balance the federal budget in seven years and advance socially conservative measures.

The Washington Post terminated its reporter Felicia Sonmez on Thursday after she waged war against the paper and her colleagues with tweetstorms for nearly an entire week.

On Tuesday, the European Parliament debated the issue of EU funding for Poland, with left-wing MEPs calling on the EU to continue blocking financial aid to the country currently run by the conservative Law and Justice party (PiS). During the debate, a war of words erupted between Polish MEP Dominik Tarczynski and European Parliament Vice-President Katerina Barley, who has long called for funding to be cut to both Hungary and Poland.

German Govt’s Vaccine Advisory Panel Now Recommending Jabs for Monkeypox
BERLIN (AP) — Germany’s independent vaccine advisory panel is recommending that shots against monkeypox be prioritized for people recently exposed to the virus that causes the disease.
The panel, known by its German acronym STIKO, circulated a draft recommendation Thursday in which it said that due to limited supply, the smallpox vaccine Imvanex should be made available first to people who were exposed to the virus in the previous 14 days.

Hungary Extends War Emergency Until November
On Wednesday, the Hungarian parliament voted to extend the state of war emergency until November, thus allowing the government to act without parliamentary approval in order to react quickly to the economic crisis and the inflow of refugees from Ukraine.
Parliament first approved the war emergency on May 25, at which time Prime Minister Viktor Orban said “this war constitutes a permanent danger to Hungary, putting at risk our physical security and endangering the energy supply and material safety of our economy and families.”

Most Americans have never heard of the Israeli, Ephraim “Eppie” Evron. A half century ago, in May of 1967, he was deputy chief of mission in the Israeli embassy in Washington and in that ostensible capacity had a meeting with President Lyndon Johnson in the Oval Office on May 26. From all indications, as we learn from Phillip Nelson in Remember the Liberty!: Almost Sunk by Treason on the High Seas, Evron was likely the real power in the embassy as the top Mossad official there. An even more interesting thing about Evron was that he was “one of the main conspirators” in the infamous Lavon Affair, a failed plot in 1954 by Israel to bomb U.S. and British facilities in Egypt and pin it on Arab extremists. (In 2005 the Israeli government outrageously honored nine of its agents involved in that episode.) …
Thirteen days after that meeting, on June 8, 1967, on the fourth day of Israel’s highly successful Six-Day War with its Arab neighbors, after hours of aerial surveillance, Israel would launch a murderous, multi-staged assault on the American intelligence ship, the USS Liberty.
The identity of the ship was as unmistakable as if it had been the Statue of Liberty. It was bristling with antennas, it flew a large American flag, and its name was clearly painted on its stern. The 4-foot high identification numbers on either side of the bow were in Latin writing, GTR-5, not in Arabic. The weather and visibility were perfect.
Beginning shortly after dawn, “at least twelve, possibly thirteen Israeli aircraft began surveilling the Liberty, some of which were only 1,000 feet or less in altitude, apparently to photograph and ‘map’ her for later targeting purposes.” The assault began without warning just before 2:00 p.m. when three curiously unmarked French-built Mirage fighter jets “bore down on the ship in a fast low-level attack.

Russia-Ukraine War: What Happened Today (June 9)
As Thursday draws to a close in Kyiv and in Moscow, here are the key developments of the day:
Russian forces control most of the city of Sievierodonetsk in eastern Ukraine, with Ukrainians holding ground in its industrial zone, the governor of Luhansk said on social media. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the battle as the epicenter and key to the fate of the Donbas region. Both sides are believed to be suffering heavy losses in the urban fighting but are keeping casualty figures quiet. Western intelligence agencies say that a Russian victory in Sievierodonetsk would allow Russia to continue pushing farther into parts of eastern Ukraine.
Radiation detectors at the defunct Chernobyl nuclear power plant are back online. The International Atomic Energy Agency says the detectors have found normal radiation levels at Chernobyl, the site of one of the world’s worst nuclear disasters in 1986. Russia seized the plant on the first day of its invasion in February. Russia’s actions in the area raised international concerns they could cause radiation to spike in the exclusion zone around the plant. Ukraine retook control of the area in late March.
Two British citizens and a Moroccan received death sentences for fighting for Ukraine, in a court in the pro-Russian separatist Donetsk region. Russia’s RIA Novosti reported that Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner of the United Kingdom and Saaudun Brahim from Morocco are accused of being mercenaries, who surrendered in Mariupol, Ukraine, in April. They have a month to appeal the sentence, the state news agency said. The British foreign secretary condemned the ruling as “a sham judgement with absolutely no legitimacy.”
A Ukrainian court upheld a ban on a political party with ties to Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law last month banning pro-Russian parties from government. The law allows the justice ministry to seize the assets of any party that “glorifies or justifies any armed aggression” against Ukraine. Before Russia’s invasion, the only pro-Russian party in parliament held about one-tenth of seats. After the invasion, the party disbanded, rebranded and came back with an anti-war stance. But officials ordered the party to liquidate. Now there’s no official pro-Russian position in Ukraine’s government for the first time since independence 30 years ago.
At least 4.8 million refugees from Ukraine are in Europe, according to the United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR. The updated figure is based on data from national authorities and reflects Ukrainians’ movements into different countries, as well as those returning home, since the Russian invasion. As of Tuesday, the agency recorded 7.3 million border crossings from Ukraine and another 2.3 million crossings back into the country.

UK Outraged After 2 British ‘Mercenaries’ Handed Death Sentences by Pro-Russian Donetsk Court
Initially reports suggested that a pair of captured British foreign fighters in Russian military custody faced 20 years in jail, but the final ruling in what Western observers have condemned as a “show trial” has ended up shockingly worse. On Thursday 28-year old Aiden Aslin and 48-year old Shaun Pinner have been sentenced to death by a court in the pro-Russian breakaway republic of Donetsk.
The British nationals had been serving in the Ukrainian military, but were captured in April while fighting in now Russian-conquered Mariupol. They appeared in a Donetsk court this week on charges of “terrorism” and “being a mercenary”. On Wednesday Russian state RIA Novosti aired footage of the men pleading “guilty” to the crimes, which critics say was coerced. A captured Moroccan national fighting for the Ukrainians, Saaudun Brahim, was also sentenced to death in the same proceedings.

The top Ukrainian official who was fired for spreading misinformation has admitted that she lied about Russians committing mass rape in order to convince western countries to send more weapons to Ukraine.
Lyudmila Denisova, the former Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, was removed from her position following a vote of no confidence in the Ukrainian parliament which passed by a margin of 234-to-9.
Parliament member Pavlo Frolov specifically accused Denisova of pushing misinformation that “only harmed Ukraine” in relation to “the numerous details of ‘unnatural sexual offenses’ and child sexual abuses in the occupied territories, which were unsupported by evidence.”

‘Worse Than the Arab Spring’ — UN Warns 49 Million Face Famine, Food Insecurity
The current state of global food insecurity is worse than the conditions that preceded the Arab Spring, leaders from global food organisations have warned.
A joint report this week from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) claimed that there are currently 49 million people in 46 countries who are at risk of falling into famine or famine-like conditions, including 750,000 people already in catastrophic conditions.
Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Sudan, and Yemen remained at the highest alert level from the previous report, and now Afghanistan and Somalia have been added to the list.
The authors of the report pointed to the impacts of the Chinese coronavirus, which has resulted in global supply chain issues due to government lockdowns, as well as the impacts of the war in Ukraine and climate factors as exacerbating the “multiple, looming food crises”.
David Beasley, a former U.S. state governor and the executive director of the World Food Programme, told Euractiv that the global food crisis could result in widespread social unrest on a greater scale than the Arab Spring, which saw mass uprisings and armed rebellions across the Middle East in the early 2010s.

France: Drunk African Migrant Breaks Teen Girl’s Nose
A teenage girl had her nose broken by an illegal migrant from Africa during an altercation in France last week, according to reports.
The disturbing incident unfolded at around 5 p.m. on May 30 in Nice, a city on the French Riviera.

France: 3 Algerian Migrants Arrested for Slitting 70-Year-Old Woman’s Throat
Three illegal Algerian migrants slashed a 70-year-old woman’s throat inside her residence in a retirement home in the French town of Mulhouse on Monday, announced the town’s public prosecutor, Edwige Roux-Morizot.
The victim’s body was discovered in her bathroom shortly before 4 p.m with a slash wound on her throat and stab wounds on her arms; the injuries indicated that she probably tried to defend herself. The prosecutor described “signs of great violence,” with the septuagenarian’s accommodation in complete disarray.

Spain’s Vox Party Warns of Danger of ‘Multicultural Hotspots’ After Champions League Chaos
Following the chaos that occurred before the Champions League final in Paris, Spain’s Vox party has warned about the danger of “multicultural hotspots” spreading to other areas of Europe.

Protest organizing group Shut Down D.C. plans to block access to the Supreme Court in Washington on June 13.
In online meeting footage obtained by The Epoch Times, the group announced that it planned to seal off all three vehicle entrances to the court so justices wouldn’t be able to get in and announce a decision that might overturn Roe v. Wade.
“Goal is to create a decision dilemma, presenting the court, Congress, and law enforcement (and the political leaders that oversee them) with three unacceptable (to them) options,” a video slide made by the activists reads.

A pro-life pregnancy services clinic in Asheville, North Carolina was vandalized earlier this week, with the threat “if abortions aren’t safe, neither are you” spray painted in red on its entrance.
