A man with a knife pretended to be a patient when he went to the emergency room in Encino Hospital, Los Angeles. When he gained entrance, he stabbed and critically wounded a doctor and two nurses. After he was taken into custody, police identified him as 35-year-old Ashkan Amirsoleymani. Based on his name, he is an ethnic Persian.

Soaring Cost of Living Causes Spike in Abandoned and Surrendered Pets

According to a growing number of reports, the soaring costs of food, gas, and housing are causing a spike in the number of family pets being abandoned or surrendered to shelters.
In January 2022, the first alarming animal shelter statistics began to emerge. While an average of 6.2 million animals are taken into shelters each year, only about 3.2 million find a home. The other three million are euthanized.
In March 2022, shelters in Cedar City, Utah, noted a dramatic increase in the number of phone messages being left by desperate pet owners who needed to surrender their pets, receiving as many as 30 calls from mid-January through February. Shelter administrators and staff said the number of strays and the number of pets being surrendered voluntarily are on par with the number of phone calls.
In April, shelters across Utah were reporting that millions of pets adopted during the outbreak of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus (commonly known as the novel coronavirus) of 2020 were being surrendered again as the high cost of living and the return to in-person working was making it impossible for pet owners to continue to care for their animals.

Alameda County Becomes First Bay Area County to Mandate Masks Again
Last month, Bay Area counties announced that were opting not to mandate masks indoors amid the current uptick of COVID-19 cases, citing low hospitalization numbers, as well as the fact that the highly vaccinated region is well-protected against severe illness and death.
On Thursday, Alameda County broke ranks by once again implementing an indoor mask mandate “to limit the impact of increasing COVID-19 cases on hospitalizations.” The mandate, which takes effect June 3, applies to most indoor settings, save K-12 schools and the city of Berkeley, which sets its own health protocols. The state lifted its school mask mandate earlier this year.

Former Wisconsin Judge Killed in Shooting; Suspect Had List of ‘Targets,’ Official Says
A retired Wisconsin judge was killed early Friday in a “targeted” shooting by a man officials say also appeared to target others related to government, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
Retired Juneau County Judge John Roemer, 68, was found dead Friday morning after police received a 911 call about an armed person and gunshots in a residence, the Wisconsin Department of Justice said in a statement Saturday.
Found in the basement was a 56-year-old identified as Douglas K. Uhde, who had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to the statement. Police attempted to negotiate with the suspected gunman for hours before entering the home.
“The information that’s been gathered indicated that it was a targeted act and that the targeting was based on some sort of court case or court cases,” Attorney General Josh Kaul during a news conference.

‘Guardian Angel’ Donors Have Poured More Than $284 Million Into Super PACs Ahead of 2022 Midterms
“Guardian angel” donors have poured $284.6 million into 36 super PACs during the 2022 midterm cycle, according to a new analysis by OpenSecrets.
These angel donors contributed more than 40% of the total raised by a super PAC. In some cases, super PACs are virtually entirely financed by the angel donor.
The vast majority of super PACs do not raise most of their money from a single source. The 2,163 super PACs tracked by OpenSecrets have raised over $1.1 billion and spent $232 million so far during the 2022 midterm elections.
Angel donors poured $155 million into liberal super PACs and $118.8 million into conservative super PACs. An additional $5.8 million went to non-partisan super PACs.

Lawsuit Seeks to Overturn WA Ban on Sale, Manufacture of Large-Capacity Gun Magazines
A lawsuit backed by a California-based pro-gun group seeks to prevent Washington’s impending ban on the sale and manufacture of large-capacity firearm magazines from taking effect this summer.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Tacoma, seeks an injunction to prevent Senate Bill 5078 from going into effect July 1. Canada’s Fake ‘Indigenous’ Professor Resigns
A Canadian professor whose claims of Indigenous ancestry were found baseless has resigned from employment at the University of Saskatchewan, according to a June 1 news release from Preston Smith, dean of the College of Medicine.
Carrie Bourassa (pictured) taught in the department of community health and epidemiology and ran an Indigenous community health research lab at the university, the CBC reported.
Bourassa had claimed to belong to three Canadian Indigenous peoples, according to the Star Phoenix, the daily newspaper of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
However, an October 2021 CBC investigation into Bourassa’s genealogy found no evidence of Indigenous ancestry and traced her lineage back to Europe and the United States.

Austrian Broadcasting’s Topman Wishes Orban Dead
“Manners” is a foreign word at the online portal of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). Worse still — an unmistakably hateful posting by ORF’s online managing director Karl Pachner has turned into a diplomatic incident.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday evening, Pachner criticised Hungarian head of government Viktor Orban for his closeness to Russia and, according to media reports, wrote: “A heart attack would be a fair thing, given his corpulence and potential for excitement!”
The Hungarian government has demanded an explanation from the Austrian ambassador for this “gross, deeply shocking scandalous statement”. The latter has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Budapest. Hungary’s government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs called for Pachner’s immediate resignation and his departure would be the only morally acceptable minimum consequence, he said.

June 4 (UPI) — A massive illegal rave disguised as a “model exhibition” and held in a field in Cornwall has forced British police to shut down area roads to stop partygoers from attending the event.”
Police remain at the scene at Davidstow Moor following reports of an illegal gathering. Officers have been at the site since around 10 p.m. yesterday,” Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement.

UK: Animal Rights Protesters Dragged From Track at Epsom Derby
Animal rights protesters who want to “rewild” royal land had to be dragged from the track at Epsom after trying to disrupt the Derby.

ZHYTOMYR, Ukraine (AP) — As soon as they had finished burying a veteran colonel killed by Russian shelling, the cemetery workers readied the next hole. Inevitably, given how quickly death is felling Ukrainian troops on the front lines, the empty grave won’t stay that way for long.
Col. Oleksandr Makhachek left behind a widow, Elena, and their daughters Olena and Myroslava-Oleksandra. In the first 100 days of war, his grave was the 40th dug in the military cemetery in Zhytomyr, 90 miles (140 kilometers) west of the capital, Kyiv.

Severodonetsk. Russia is “throwing all its reserves into” capturing the city of Severodonetsk in the eastern Luhansk region, according to Serhiy Hayday, the head of the regional military administration.
Ukraine now controls about half of Severodonetsk, but it cannot evacuate people from there or bring humanitarian aid to the city, Hayday said.
Now Ukraine is trying to bring Severodonetsk fully under its control, according to the city’s authorities.
Donetsk. Russian artillery hit a 17th-century All Saints church in Sviatohirsk in eastern Ukraine, setting it on fire, according to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. There were no military targets present at the site.
Four people were killed during the attack and another four were wounded. About 300 people, including 60 children, were sheltering in the monastery, Zelensky said.
“The church was first destroyed during the Soviet era. Later it was rebuilt to be burned by the Russian army,” Zelensky said.
Ukraine called for Russia to be expelled from the United Nations’ cultural agency Unesco because its troops destroy Ukrainian monuments and cultural heritage sites.
Mykolaiv. Three people were killed and four others were injured after Russian forces fired at residential areas of Mykolaiv on Saturday. Three buildings were damaged in the attack.
Donbas. Russian forces attacked four settlements in Donbas with Tochka-U ballistic missiles on June 4.
Sumy. Russia fired six missiles at the Sumy region on Saturday, damaging several buildings. No civilian casualties were reported.
Kherson. A Russian mine killed three civilians on a beach in the occupied village of Lazyrne in Kherson oblast. Ukraine will treat the incident as a war crime and premeditated murder.
Odesa. A Russian missile struck Odesa Oblast on June 4, hitting an agricultural building. Two people were injured as a result of the attack.
Four international fighters from France, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands were killed in Ukraine on Saturday. They volunteered to go to Ukraine during the war to join the country’s International Legion of Defense.
Ukraine and Russia exchanged the bodies of killed soldiers on Sunday. Each side swapped 160 deceased soldiers.
The Ukrainian military shot down a Russian drone over the Black Sea worth about $7 million, according to Odesa city council. Russian forces are facing a shortage of drones, the Ukrainian General Staff reported earlier.
Over 3,600 Ukrainian settlements have been under Russian occupation since Feb. 24. Many of them are now unsuitable for “civilized life,” according to Zelensky.

Ukraine Anger as Macron Says ‘Don’t Humiliate Russia’
Ukraine’s foreign minister has hit out at French President Emmanuel Macron after he said it was vital that Russia was not humiliated over its invasion.
Mr Macron said it was crucial President Vladimir Putin had a way out of what he called a “fundamental error”.
But Dmytro Kuleba said allies should “better focus on how to put Russia in its place” as it “humiliates itself”.
Mr Macron has repeatedly spoken to Mr Putin by phone in an effort to broker a ceasefire and negotiations.

North Korea Conducts Ballistic Missile Test as Concern Grows it May be Prepping for Nuclear Test
North Korea test-fired a salvo of eight short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea on Sunday, South Korea’s military said, extending a provocative streak in weapons demonstrations this year that U.S. and South Korean officials say may culminate with a nuclear test explosion.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missiles were fired in succession over 35 minutes from the Sunan area near the capital, Pyongyang. It didn’t immediately say how far the missiles flew but noted the South Korean military has heightened its monitoring in case the North fires more missiles.
The launch came a day after the U.S. aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan concluded a three-day naval drill with South Korea in the Philippine Sea, apparently their first drill involving a carrier since November 2017, as the countries move to upgrade their defense exercises in the face of growing North Korean threats…

The populist Sweden Democrats (SD) have called for the repatriation of Syrians, Afghans, and Somalis, noting their rate of unemployment and high numbers who have not integrated.

Florida Surgeon General Calls for Medicaid to Cease Coverage of Medicalized ‘Gender Transition’
Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo is requesting the state consider not including gender transition care under Medicaid coverage.
The comments follow a Thursday report from Florida Medicaid which said research on the safety of gender reassignment surgeries and hormone usage for transitioning is insufficient.
In a letter to the Florida Board of Medicine, obtained by NBC News, Ladapo said research shows “there is great uncertainty about the effects of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries in young people with gender dysphoria.”

UK: Biological Males Win Women’s Cycling Event, Kiss While Third Place Female Cares for Child
Emily Bridges and Lilly Chant, two biological men who identify as transgender, won the first and second place slots at London’s ThunderCrit cycling event on Thursday.

KFC put up posters in Germany inviting “chicks from Ukraine” to bed

In Germany, banners appeared with controversial advertising for fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). On the posters, the main face of the company – Colonel Sanders – looks out from under the blanket, inviting Ukrainian refugees to come to him.
“Chickens from Ukraine are very welcome in Germany,” reads the inscription on the colonel’s blanket.
Judging by the photos posted by local residents on Twitter, KFC launched a provocative outdoor advertising in conjunction with the Booking.com hotel booking service (there is a small blue logo of the service at the bottom of the billboard). Outdoor advertising has already caused indignation on the part of the inhabitants of Ukraine. In their opinion, such jokes are inappropriate now. Moreover, the inscription on the poster humiliates their dignity. However, some netizens felt that “the place assigned to Ukraine by Western consciousness is indicated very clearly.”
