Eurostat: Czechia Among Countries Hardest Hit by Record-Breaking May Inflation
Inflation in the euro area has hit its highest annual level since the creation of the euro currency in 1999. In May 2022, the annual inflation jumped to 8.1 percent in the euro area and 8.8 percent in the EU.
Prices have been rising for 10 consecutive months and show few signs of letting up, deepening a cost-of-living crisis for consumers and forcing European policymakers to pledge a variety of measures to tackle the issue.
Initially driven by post-pandemic supply shortages and soaring energy prices following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, inflation has now become increasingly broad, affecting everything from food and services to everyday goods.
In the Czech Republic, year-on-year inflation in the first quarter of 2022 reached 11.2 percent. Compared with the fourth quarter of 2021, consumer prices rose 6.3 percent in the first quarter, the highest since 1993. Prices are rising for the vast majority of items in the consumer basket, according to the Czech Statistical Office (CSÚ).
Czechia now ranks 4th in the euro area in terms of the annual inflation rate. Estonia (20.1 percent), Lithuania (18.5 percent), and Latvia (16.8 percent) have the highest inflation rate, while France and Malta mark the lowest rate at 5.8 percent.

Greeks Fear Another Recession, Just Four Years After the Country Exited Its Controversial Bailout
“Greece is safer but not safe,” Michalis Galenianos, an Athens resident, told CNBC when asked about the prospect of a recession. “I think Greece is more stable now than what it used to be. I think and I hope that the financially dark days of the past won’t come back.”
Greece has come through three successive bailout programs post-financial crisis, which, controversially, were dependent on a slew of reforms and years of austerity measures. The Greek economy then expanded by 1.6% in 2018 and 1.9% in 2019.
However, like the rest of the world, it suffered an economic setback in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and is now facing new economic pressures with one of the highest inflation rates in Europe.

An estimate from Europe’s statistics office indicated that Greece’s headline inflation was 10.7% in May, rising from 9.1% in April. For ordinary citizens, this is a big change.

Poland: May Unemployment Down to 5.1 Percent — Stats Office
Poland’s unemployment rate fell to 5.1 percent in May 2022 from 5.2 percent April 2022, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported on Friday.
The number of registered unemployed measured 850,200 in May against 878,000 in the previous month, GUS also said.
Earlier, the Family and Social Policy Ministry estimated May’s unemployment at 5.1 percent.

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. — One person was killed and two others injured Saturday at the WeatherTech warehouse in Bolingbrook, police said. A person is in custody.

Video: Boy’s Father Attacks Murder Suspect in Ohio Courtroom
Video from an Ohio courtroom shows a man running up and attacking the defendant, punching him multiple times in the side of the head.
The surveillance video was released by a spokesperson from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, who said the attacker, Tonio Hughes, was the biological father of a young boy who was allegedly murdered by the defendant, 22-year-old Desean Brown.
Video shows Brown sitting at the courtroom table during a hearing. Hughes, sitting in the back row of the courtroom, suddenly gets up, runs down the aisle toward Brown and begins punching him in the head.
Two security guards quickly run over and pull the two apart. Though handcuffed, Brown can be seen holding his head for a few moments after the altercation.
“Everything inside him, just the pain and everything took over,” family friend Faith Burton told FOX 19 in Cincinnati. “He did what I think any of us would do.”
Following the incident, Judge Megan Shanahan found Hughes in contempt of court and sentenced him to seven days at the Hamilton County Justice Center, FOX 19 reported.
Hughes is the father of Nylo Lattimore, a 3-year-old boy who went missing in December 2020.
Brown is accused of fatally stabbing Nylo’s mother, Nyteisha Lattimore, who was his girlfriend at the time, before throwing the boy off a pedestrian bridge in the Ohio River. Authorities believe Nylo was still alive at the time.
The boy’s body hasn’t been recovered despite more than a year of searching in multiple states…

AUSTREXIT? Serious EU Doubts Emerge in Austria as Over Half Don’t Think Membership is Good
THE European Union has once again found itself under mounting pressure after a bombshell new poll found over half of Austrians don’t think membership of the bloc is a good thing.
The latest Eurobarometer survey commissioned by the European Parliament in April and May that saw 26,580 interviews — 1,005 of them in Austria — found the country’s population turning against the European Union, which is led y European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. It revealed that while two-thirds (65 percent) of the EU average think membership to the bloc is a good thing, less than half (46 percent) in Austria do. Just over two-thirds (38 percent) have a positive image of the EU, compared to the EU-wide average of 52 percent.

A study of the Jewish populations in twelve European countries found that Jews living in France were the most fearful for their own safety, mostly due to anti-semitic terrorist attacks in recent years.

Horror on Oslo Pride Day as Gunman Goes on Deadly Rampage at Gay Bar
OSLO, June 25 (Reuters) — Terrified revellers at a gay bar in Oslo hid in a basement and desperately called loved ones as a gunman went on the rampage, killing two people and injuring 21 on the day the city was due to celebrate its annual Pride parade.

Major Setback for Transatlanticism: Italian Five Star Movement Splits Over Ukraine Policy
In Italy, the dispute over the Draghi government’s Ukraine policy has led to a political earthquake: Foreign Minister Di Maio has resigned from his party, the Five Star Movement, after considerable squabbling over Ukraine.
Although the Five Star Movement is part of the government’s alliance of supporters, it is apparently on the verge of splitting. Di Maio now wants to create a new parliamentary group that wholeheartedly supports Mario Draghi’s course on Ukraine again.
Di Maio’s party resignation follows disputes between him and former Italian Prime Minister and current Five Star leader Giuseppe Conte over, among other things, arms deliveries to Ukraine. On this issue, a deep rift has been running through the party for some time, but also through the Italian public at large. Norway Shaken by Attack That Kills 2 During Pride Festival
OSLO, Norway (AP) — A gunman opened fire in Oslo’s nightlife district early Saturday, killing two people and leaving more than 20 wounded in what the Norwegian security service called an “Islamist terror act” during the capital’s annual LGBTQ Pride festival.
Investigators said the suspect, identified as a 42-year-old Norwegian citizen originally from Iran, was arrested after opening fire at three locations in downtown Oslo.
Police said two men, one in his 50s and and the other his 60s, died in the shootings. Ten people were treated for serious injuries, but none of them was believed to be in life-threatening condition. Eleven others had minor injuries.
The Norwegian Police Security Service raised its terror alert level from “moderate” to “extraordinary” — the highest level — after the attack, which sent panicked revelers fleeing into the streets or trying to hide from the gunman.
The service’s acting chief, Roger Berg, called the attack an “extreme Islamist terror act” and said the suspect had a “long history of violence and threats,” as well as mental health issues.

Poland: Ruling Party in Comfortable Lead Over Opposition
Poland’s ruling United Right coalition, led by the conservative Law and Justice (PiS), could count on 38 percent of the vote, leaving its main rival 11.1 percentage points behind, if elections were held at the end of June.

Suspects Charged Over Puzzling Needle Attacks in France
PARIS — Several suspects around France have been detained or given preliminary charges in recent days for allegedly pricking people with a needle in nightclubs or at concerts, following a surge in needle attacks that have confounded authorities and seeded panic among young club-goers.
The French Interior Ministry, prosecutors, the national anti-drug agency, public health authorities and doctors have not determined a motive for the attacks, or whether the victims were injected with drugs, viruses or any substance at all.
Since January, 1,004 people have filed formal complaints with French authorities about such needle pricks, an Interior Ministry official told The Associated Press.

Russia Fires Missiles Across Ukraine, Cements Gains in East
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian forces are seeking to swallow-up the last remaining Ukrainian stronghold in the eastern Luhansk region, the governor said Saturday, while pressing their momentum following the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the charred ruins of Sievierodonetsk.
Russia also launched dozens of missiles on several areas across the country far from the heart of the eastern battles. Some of the missiles were fired from Russian long-range Tu-22 bombers deployed to Belarus for the first time, Ukraine’s air command said.
The bombardment preceded a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, during which Putin announced that Russia planned to send the Iskander-M missile system to Belarus.

Russia Promises Belarus Iskander-M Nuclear-Capable Missiles
Russia will send nuclear capable short-range missile systems to its ally Belarus in the coming months, President Vladimir Putin has said.

Russia Ukraine War Crisis Live Updates: According to Oleksandr Stryuk the mayor of Sievierodonetsk city, the Russian forces have fully occupied the strategic frontline city in eastern Ukraine after weeks of fighting and bombardment.
Ukraine’s finance minster Sergii Marchenko and the Federal Minister of Finance of Germany Christian Lindner signed an Agreement between the Governments of Ukraine and Germany on providing EUR 1 billion in grant funding to Ukraine on June 24. Meanwhile, Russian forces are trying to block Lysychansk city from the south in eastern Ukraine, the region’s governor said on Saturday. The city lies next to Sievierodonetsk, which has endured relentless assault and house-to-house fighting for weeks.
Dozens of Russian missiles rained down on military facilities in western and northern Ukraine on Saturday, local officials said, as Europe’s biggest land conflict since World War Two entered its fifth month. The governor of the Lviv region in western Ukraine, Maxim Kozytskyi, said in a video posted online that six missiles were fired from the Black Sea at the Yavoriv base, with four hitting the base and two being intercepted and destroyed before hitting their target.
Meanwhile, European Union leaders on Thursday granted Ukraine the coveted status of an official candidate to join their 27-nation club, a bold geopolitical step hailed by Kyiv and the EU itself as a “historic moment”. Although it could take Ukraine more than a decade to eventually join the bloc, the decision is a symbol of the EU’s intention to reach deep into the former Soviet Union.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | June 25, 2022:: As per latest news, a Gujarat anti-terror squad (ATS) team on Saturday arrested activist Teesta Setalvad. She is being taken to Ahmedabad. According to the FIR, activist Teesta and two former IPS officers have been booked for allegedly giving false information about the Gujarat riots. The controversial journalist, writer and activist Setalvad is believed to be in the camp of ‘Anti-Hindu’ Lefts in several years siding with ‘Selective Secular’ and ‘Pro Islamist’ lobbies.
The Gujarat Police has also booked former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt and former IPS officer RB Sreekumar along with ‘rights’ activist Teesta Setalvad in the related cases.
According to the FIR, Setalvad, through Zakia Jafri, the face of Muslim victims of the 2002 Gujarat riots, put several petitions in court and gave false information to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) head and other commissions.
“The investigation has found that false information was given through petition,” the FIR read.
The accused have been booked under sections 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged documents as genuine), 194 (giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure conviction of a capital offence) and other relevant sections of the IPC.
This development comes after the Supreme Court upheld the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) clean chit to 64 people, including PM Narendra Modi, in the 2002 riots case.
Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in an interview, accused Setalvad of giving baseless information about the 2002 Gujarat riots to the police.
Amit Shah also said that Setalvad had an NGO which had submitted applications to police stations against BJP workers and they were sought as truth.
The Gujarat ATS team arrived at Setalvad’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu on Saturday and took her to Santacruz Police station in Mumbai. Later, she was arrested.
In 2018, late Congress leader Ehsan Jafri’s widow, Zakia Jafri and activist Teesta Setalvad approached the top court, saying the SC-appointed SIT did not examine all the material available, its investigation was biased, and investigators themselves should face a probe.
On Friday, the apex court, while upholding the SIT clean chit given to PM Modi, said that activist Teesta Setalvad exploited the emotions of petitioner Zakia Jafri for “ulterior motives”.
“Antecedents of Teesta Setalvad need to be reckoned with and also because she has been vindicively persecuting this lis [dispute] for her ulterior design by exploiting the emotions and sentiments of Zakia Jafri, the real victim of the circumstances,” the apex court said.

China Says Only Those With a Qualification Can Post Online About Topics Such as Health and Law

Finland to Introduce Border Restrictions in Case of Large Flows of Migrants
Finnish authorities might introduce border procedures in cases of large-scale entries and instrumentalisation of migration, a proposal submitted to Parliament on June 22 says.
According to a press release issued by the Finnish Interior Ministry, the purpose of such a proposal is to improve and manage entries, with the amendments expected to enter the force immediately, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Poland Accepts 4.32 Mln Refugees Since War in Ukraine Started
Since February 24, when Russia invaded Ukraine, 4.32 million people have crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border into Poland, the Border Guard (SG) tweeted on Saturday morning.
According to the SG, on Friday, Border Guard officers carried out around 26,500 border checks on people entering Poland from Ukraine, and by 7:00 a.m. on Saturday the number of arrivals had reached around 6,500 people.
The Border Guard also said that on Friday 25,800 people had left Poland for Ukraine.

Spain Calls Deadly Migrant Rush an ‘Attack’ on Its Territory
The Spanish prime minister on Saturday described a deadly migrant rush on the enclave of Melilla from Morocco as an attack on Spain’s “territorial integrity”, as human rights activists demanded an investigation.
At least 23 African migrants died in the latest drama on the doors of the European Union, when around 2,000 mostly sub-Saharan African migrants approached the Moroccan border with the tiny territory at dawn on Friday.

Fact-Checkers Demand YouTube Censor More Content, Boost “Credible Information”
Despite Big Tech censorship being at an all-time high, at GlobalFact 9, a fact-checking conference organized by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), YouTube was blasted for its failure to address “mis— and disinformation.”
IFCN had previously published an open letter to YouTube, asking the platform to do more to address the spread of misinformation.

Macron Criticizes Supreme Court Ruling Despite France’s Strict Abortion Limits
French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday took aim at the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe vs Wade, despite France having its own abortion limits that are tighter than the Mississippi law at the heart of the case.
“Abortion is a fundamental right for all women. It must be protected,” Macron tweeted. I wish to express my solidarity with the women whose liberties are being undermined by the Supreme Court of the United States.”

New York School Defends Teaching 10th Graders Terms Like ‘Dick Me Down’ And ‘Bust One in Me’
A New York high school is defending itself after facing backlash for teaching students terms like “coochie slayer” and “professional raw dogger.”
The Croton-Harmon High School in Westchester, New York said it stands by its “sex-ed lesson.”
Republican candidate for New York governor Rob Astorino drew attention to the lesson when he posted a picture of sexually explicit words and phrases written on a 10th grade whiteboard on June 14th.

New York Bishops ‘Give Thanks to God’ For Roe v. Wade Reversal
The Catholic Bishops of New York issued a statement Friday on the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, declaring that the historic ruling “will save countless innocent children simply waiting to be born.”
“We give thanks to God for today’s decision of the United States Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization,” reads the statement, signed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan and seven of his brother bishops from New York state.

A pro-abortion protester who shut down a bridge in Washington D.C. after scaling one of its huge 70-foot arches without a safety harness has been arrested.
Guido Reichstadter, 42, stationed himself on top the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge for nearly 28 hours in protest of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The Miami, Florida native was seen flying a green banner in support of reproductive rights and and waving a yellow flag that read: ‘Don’t tread on my uterus.’
Reichstadter began his protest Friday morning, just moments before the 6-3 ruling powered by the high court’s conservative majority overturned the landmark 1973 decision that guaranteed abortion rights in the U.S.
The father-of-two said he decided to climb the bridge after having ‘a very, very, very strong emotional reaction’ to the ruling and how it impacts the future of rights for women, specifically his 12-year-old daughter.
Reichstadter was also arrested during a protest on June 6 after he locked himself by the neck to the fence outside the Supreme Court building.
Reichstadter scaled the arch shortly after 9.30am Friday, prompting police to close the 1,445-foot long bridge and inflate a large air cushion in the roadway in case he fell.
The Frederick Douglass bridge remained closed until nearly 2pm Saturday.
‘I will get out of jail as soon as I can,’ he told his Instagram followers before starting his descent down the bridge. ‘This is not the end. This is just the beginning.’
Reichstadter was arrested around 1.20pm for unlawful entry, crowding, obstructing or incommoding and failure to obey, police confirmed to DailyMail.com.
He received treatment from D.C. fire and EMS and was then transported to the first district police station for processing…
