Germany Inflation Rate Jumps to 7.9% in May
Germany’s inflation rate reached 7.9% in May, according to data published by the German statistical agency Destatis.
The preliminary figures were based on the consumer price index and compared with prices from May 2021.
May’s inflation was thus up by 9% over the record-breaking rate record in April this year. It marks the highest rate of inflation since German reunification and a level similar to that seen in 1973/1974 following the oil crisis.

May 30 (UPI) — Gas prices reached record highs on Monday as many Americans took to the roads to travel for the Memorial Day holiday.

Father and 10-Year-Old Son Killed in Wissinoming Drive-by Shooting, Police Say
WISSINOMING — Philadelphia police are investigating a drive-by shooting that killed a father and son in Wissinoming.
Officials said police responded to calls for gunshots on the 2100 block of Carver Street Sunday night, just after 10:30.
When police arrived, they found a 38-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy each shot multiple times while sitting in a vehicle.
The boy was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital where he died from his injuries. The man was rushed by police to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where he also died.
In their preliminary investigation, police determined the two were father and son.
The man had just parked a vehicle on the street near where they live when at least two shooters in a dark-colored vehicle, possibly an SUV, drove alongside and began firing, continuing to shoot at the victims’ vehicle until they drove away…

May 30 (UPI) — A judge on Monday ordered a suspect charged with attempted first degree murder for allegedly setting a homeless man on fire in downtown Chicago to be held without bail.

May 30 (UPI) — Florida authorities say they have arrested and charged a fifth-grader for sending a text message that threatened a mass shooting at his school.
Lee County, Fla., Sheriff Carmine Marceno said the 10-year-old boy was arrested Saturday after his department learned of the message, which was sent by the Patriot Elementary School student in Cape Coral.

Officials from the Biden administration have reportedly uninvited many of the border patrol agents and law enforcement officers who responded to the Uvalde school shooting from a meeting with President Joe Biden scheduled for last Sunday.

Italy: Salvini’s League Party Crashes in the Polls After Shift to the Left
What happened to Matteo Salvini and his party, the League? At the height of his form in 2019, Salvini was deputy prime minister and interior minister in Giuseppe Conte’s first government. Poland will not be hit by recession and its economy will grow by at least 3 percent this year, the country’s prime minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, announced during the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday.
Speaking to the commercial television channel, Polsat News, Morawiecki claimed that despite talk in Davos of a recession in the U.S. and across Western Europe, “there is no mention of recession in Poland because in this and the next year recession will not happen.”

Poland: Liberal Mayor of Warsaw Calls on EU to Withhold Funds to His Own Country
Liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski said that he hoped the European Commission will make more demands before it transfers National Recovery Plan funds to Poland, which means Poland may have to wait even longer to unlock tens of billions in funding for schools, energy, healthcare, and key construction projects.

Poland Sends Big Shipments of Weapons to Ukraine
As a result of Polish military assistance, the Ukrainians are now in possession of at least 24 howitzers, while six more Caesar “howitzers” have been delivered by France. Germany and the Netherlands have promised the delivery of 12 more, but the crews of the German Panzerhaubitzen 2000 are still being trained and it is not clear when the equipment will actually find its way to the east.

Statements Against NATO Membership Discouraged in Finland
NATO membership is a free choice and the citizens of Finland overwhelmingly want to be part of the alliance. At least this is the justification for the continuous expansion of NATO towards the borders of Russia despite the agreements signed with the Russian leaders after the implosion of the Soviet Union and the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact.

Turkey’s President Erdogan Threatens to Invade Syria (Again)

French Journalist is Killed in Ukraine’s Donbas Region
The French news broadcaster BFM TV said a 32-year-old French journalist was killed Monday in eastern Ukraine, fatally hit by shell shrapnel while covering a Ukrainian evacuation operation.
BFM TV said its journalist Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff was killed as he was “covering a humanitarian operation in an armored vehicle” near Sievierodonetsk, a key city in the Donbas region that is being hotly contested by Russian and Ukrainian forces. He had worked for six years for the French television channel.
