Gates of Vienna News Feed 5/24/2022

During his video address to the WEF conference in Davos, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said that Ukraine should negotiate with Russia and be willing to surrender territory in order to reach a peace agreement. Mr. Kissinger expressed his opinion that Ukraine should assume a neutral status to act as a buffer between Russia and Europe.

In other news, an 18-year-old high school student walked into an elementary school in Texas carrying at least one gun and killed 18 pupils and a teacher before being shot dead by police.

18 Children, 1 Teacher Killed After Texas School Massacre; Biden to “Turn Pain Into Action”

Twenty people are dead, including 18 children, a teacher, and the suspected gunman following an “active shooter” report at Robb Elementary school in Uvdale, Texas, according to Gov. Greg Abbott, making this the deadliest shooting at an American elementary school since the attack at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., in 2012.

The state police updated the death toll on Tuesday evening, announcing that four more children were among the dead, for a total of 18.

Additionally, and as yet unconfirmed, Texas Governor Abbot said that “it is being reported that the subject shot his grandmother right before he went into the school.”

30 Years With No Strategy Brought Us the War in Ukraine

by Douglas Macgregor

Washington DC has not excelled in grand strategy; the art and science of cost-effectively employing the diplomatic, economic, and informational powers of the United States in combination with its armed forces to secure its national goals and interests. Most of the strategic decisions to use American military power that were made over the last 30 years resulted in one of two strategic outcomes: abject failure (Somalia, Haiti, Afghanistan, and Iraq) or a new regional status quo that is untenable without a permanent U.S. military presence far from America’s borders (the Balkans).

The reasons for the discouraging outcomes of the last 30 years can be traced to Washington’s failure to clearly define realistic, attainable goals for U.S. military power. That requires an acknowledgement that American resources and the electorate’s patience are not limitless, and a thorough understanding of the opponent’s interests and capabilities. It seems that regardless of party affiliation Washington approaches national strategy the way the British approach sex, “romantically remote from the distressing biological crudities.”

A Man Who Shot Dead His Co-Worker at Work is Lecturing Us on Workplace Safety? Alec Baldwin Sparks Backlash for Slamming NFL Player for ‘Workplace Violence’ After Punching United Airlines Worker

Alec Baldwin — who infamously shot dead an up and coming cinematographer on the set of his movie — has taken to social media to call out ‘workplace abuse’ after a viral video showed former NFL player Brendan Langley and a United Airlines employee brawling.

‘The guy working at the airport is the victim,’ Baldwin wrote on Instagram Tuesday. ‘He came to work to do a job.

‘The other guy, with his big mouth, is guilty of workplace abuse, where people come to work with an expectation of safety, even civility.

‘This a**hole who hit the guy should be put on a no-fly list.’

Many online found the sentiment ironic given the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins, 42, on the set of his Western film, Rust, just last year and viral brawls with a parking attendant who was trying to give the 30 Rock actor a ticket and a member of the paparazzi who was trying to take a photo of him and his wife, Hilaria, in 2013.

‘A man who (accidentally) shot and killed his co-worker at work is lecturing us on WORKPLACE SAFETY? Ffs..’ Pierce Morgan wrote in the aftermath…

Alec Baldwin — Who Shot and Killed a Woman on Set — Advocates for ‘Workplace Safety’ After Airport Fight Goes Viral

Now-infamous actor Alec Baldwin has taken to calling out workplace safety following an altercation caught on video between former NFL player Brendan Langley and a United Airlines worker in an airport.

In a screenshot from Instagram obtained by The Shade Room, Baldwin wrote: “The guy working at the airport is the victim. He came to work to do a job. The other guy, with his big mouth, is guilty of work place abuse, where people come to work with an expectation of safety, even civility.”

‘Back Off: Dude, I’ll Shoot You.’ Woman Recounts Shooting, Killing Intruder

AZALEA PARK, Fla. (WESH) — Life has not always been easy for 69-year-old Virginia Morrison, and these days she said it’s been hard.

She called her son over the weekend with news so shocking he thought it was a joke.

“And I said, ‘Oh, by the way — I shot and killed a guy in my driveway today,’“ Morrison said.

Deputies confirmed her story. Morrison said a stranger walked into her home Sunday afternoon.

She confronted the intruder, but he wouldn’t leave.

“I picked up a broom — a straw broom — I’d been out here sweeping with. I hit him in the face twice with it and nothing,” Morrison recalled, saying he just gave a blank stare.

Morrison said she called out to her partner, Charlie, in the other room.

“I had my cell phone in my hand, and I threw my phone at him. Nothing. I’m yelling at Charlie, ‘Shoot him! Call 911,’“ she said.

Morrison said Charlie shot into the ground, and the man soon moved out of the house but stayed on the property.

“I fired a shot above him. ‘Back off, dude, I’ll shoot you.’ He just keeps coming toward me. So I shot him,” Morrison said.

According to deputies, she shot and killed the man…

Breaking News: NYPD ‘Arrest’ Subway Shooting Suspect Andrew Abdullah Two Days After He Shot Goldman Sachs Employee Dead on the Train While Out on Bail

The NYPD has finally arrested the on-the-run suspect wanted for shooting dead a man on the subway on Sunday, according to police sources cited by ABC and CBS.

Andrew Abdullah was taken into custody today — some 48 hours after allegedly shooting dead Daniel Enriquez on a Manhattan-bound Q train on Sunday. It is not yet clear where he was arrested or what led police to him.

An NYPD spokesman could not confirm the reports.

Enriquez was on his way to brunch with his brother when he was shot in the torso in an unprovoked attack.

Abdullah — who was out on bail at the time- fled the train at the Canal Street station and was on the run for several days but is now in custody.

He is a known gang member who was multiple arrests for violent crimes…

Breaking Up America Into a Series of Nation-States Based on Political Identity — Theorist and Author Alexander Moss Publishes New Book Analyzing What Could Soon Happen to the Most Powerful Nation on Earth

‘A More Perfect Union (Briefs): Reimagining the United States as a European Union-Style Federation’

SEATTLE, May 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — In his new book, political analyst and author Alexander Moss recently explored the possibility of a dramatic future break-up of U.S. states in what might be the last chance to save an extremely divided nation from another Civil War. In “A More Perfect Union,” Moss gives a cogent and detailed look at the idea of splitting the U.S. into a series of independent regional nations, forming a federation similar to the European Union. The general idea is not a new one, nor is it completely radical — for some time now, secession has been a serious topic of discussion for regions such as the South, Texas, and California in the west. But after recent political tensions boiled over into the first-ever U.S. election-coup attempt in January of 2021, Moss’s unique angle on such a breakup is now both important and timely.

“Starting in 2017, mainstream polling firms such as Zogby, Bright Line Watch / YouGov, and the University of Virginia Center for Politics have consistently found that support for breaking up the United States into regional sub-groups has been growing,” said Moss. “As of 2021, polling across several different vendors shows roughly 40% of Biden voters and 50% or more of Trump voters would vote to break the country up. And I don’t think I have to stress just how stunning these percentages are.”

California Bill Would Allow Parents to Sue Big Tech for Children Becoming ‘Addicted’ To Social Media

A new California bill will give parents the ability to sue social media companies for up to $25,000 for their children becoming addicted to their sites. The bill, currently awaiting passage by the state Senate, seeks to lead the way to hold social media companies accountable for their predatory methods of user engagement.

“The bill defines ‘addiction’ as kids under 18 who are both harmed — either physically, mentally, emotionally, developmentally or materially — and who want to stop or reduce how much time they spend on social media but they can’t because they are preoccupied or obsessed with it,” ABC reports.

City of Staten Island? Borelli Renews Borough’s Secession Bid

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Over 30 years ago, Staten Islanders voted in favor of secession from New York City, but were ultimately stymied by then-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who blocked a vote in the Assembly.

But City Council Minority Leader Joseph Borelli still believes it’s worth considering, according to a new bill he introduced this week.

Borelli, a Republican, brought forth a bill on Thursday that would create a task force to study and report on the feasibility of an independent city of Staten Island. The task force would then produce a report addressing the financial cost of secession, the legislative and political considerations necessary for secession, the service demands, allocation of resources, and the overall cost to the city of New York and to Staten Island of creating an independent and self-sustaining city of Staten Island.

Critical Race Theory is Being Injected Into Medicine and as a Doctor it Alarms Me

by Stephen Leonard, M.D

I will not be renewing my medical license in Massachusetts. Last month, I received an email from the state Board of Registration in Medicine informing me that to maintain my license, I must “complete a continuing medical education requirement” on “implicit bias in healthcare.”

Massachusetts has long been a center of excellence in medicine, so it is particularly distressing to see politics intrude into this life-saving field. I cannot be party to the ideological corruption of my profession, which will injure physicians and patients alike.

Federal Judge Rules Houston University’s Harassment Policy Unconstitutional: ‘Not Guidance, It is the Law’

A federal judge in Texas has blocked a university from re-implementing an anti-discrimination policy and sided with a conservative group who argued it was a violation of the free speech protections of the First Amendment.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes, a Reagan appointee, was a victory for the nonprofit group Speech First in its lawsuit against the University of Houston after it implemented a policy that stated students could face disciplinary action ranging from probation to suspension or expulsion for subjecting other students “to unlawful severe, pervasive, or persistent treatment” on the basis of their race, color, gender, age, religion or sexual orientation.

Speech First had argued that the university’s definition of harassment was too broad and included “denigrating jokes” and “negative stereotyping” which they say is protected by the First Amendment.

Georgia Republicans to Vote on Buckhead Secession

The upcoming Georgia primary election will attract attention for David Perdue’s challenge of incumbent governor Brian Kemp, but a down-ballot, nonbinding advisory question in the state may have its own implications for cities nationwide. Republican voters will be asked whether Buckhead, the wealthiest neighborhood in Atlanta, should be allowed to vote to leave the city and create its own government.

It’s the latest tactic in a campaign by residents of this 24-square-mile area of approximately 90,000 people—which accounts for about 40 percent of Atlanta’s property-tax base and was made famous by Tom Wolfe’s A Man in Full for its lawns that “rose up from the street like big green breasts”—to incorporate independently. A binding referendum seemed like a real possibility last year, but Atlanta’s business establishment and a state leadership wary of permitting the majority-white neighborhood to split off from majority-black Atlanta have managed to thwart the Buckh

In Rebuke to Pentagon, Navy Board Finds 3-0 for Vax Objector Amid Questions of Mandate’s Lawfulness

In a stinging rebuke to the Pentagon, a Navy administrative separation board voted unanimously to retain an officer who refused to comply with the military’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

Navy Lt. Billy Moseley, who has been an officer for 22 years, could have chosen to retire from the military when he was ordered to receive the COVID vaccine. He also could have submitted a Religious Accommodation Request, since he objected to the vaccine for religious reasons.

Risking his retirement, Moseley chose instead to take his case to the administrative separation board after learning “that the Navy and the other services intended to implement a blanket denial policy,” according to a press release from his attorney, R. Davis Younts.

Pennsylvania Court Upholds Counties’ Right to Inspect Electronic Voting Equipment

The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania on Tuesday upheld the right of Pennsylvania counties to inspect electronic voting equipment, an authority granted to them by the state Legislature.

The court sided with a brief filed by conservative election integrity watchdog The Amistad Project on behalf of Fulton County, Pa. The county had conducted an inspection on two Dominion voting machines in an attempt to determine whether they had functioned correctly during the 2020 election.

The state’s top election official, the secretary of the commonwealth, then retroactively banned the practice and decertified both of the machines without providing the county with state funding to replace them.

The ruling establishes a precedent that counties have the statutory authority to inspect electronic voting equipment to ensure safe and honest elections are taking place.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Highlights the Greatness of the Reagan Era

Again and again throughout “Top Gun: Maverick,” the naysayers in naval uniforms tell our eponymous hero that his day is past.

It’s not the same world, Mav … The future is coming, and you’re not in it … Things have changed.

At some point, the gauntlet is thrown down so hard in front of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and the 1986 movie that made us love him, you half expect him to start delivering Aragorn’s battle speech from “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”

There may come a day when the swagger of adrenaline-addicted fighter pilots fails to entertain American audiences, but it is not this day. A day when the crooked, cocksure grin of the last true Hollywood star fails to charm women, but it is not this day. A day when the sight of a manly, back-pounding hug between comrades fails to bring a tear to old men’s eyes, but it is not this day. This day, we will happily turn over our hard-earned dollars to be reassured that even if there are 33 genders now, if you get a bunch of flyboys around a barroom pool table, they will still insult one another’s manhood.

Because whether they will admit it or not, the thing that has mainstream critics raving about the “Top Gun” sequel isn’t the ways it has been updated but how it has unashamedly remained the same.

Video: CNN Host Stelter Sad Over Demise of ‘Ministry of Truth’

After CNN’s potato headed weirdo Brian Stelter declared he was sad about a literal Ministry of Truth being put on hold by the Biden administration, Tucker Carlson mocked his ‘paralyzing stupidity’ and compared him to a character from George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984.

Carlson played clips of Stelter expressing annoyance that conservatives outed the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Disinformation Governance Board and its leader Nina Jankowicz as authoritarian, leading to it being mothballed.

“By far the most entertaining person Joe Biden has appointed to anything was that Nina woman he put in charge of the Ministry of Truth,” Carlson said, adding that “She was so ridiculous and provably so that she’s out.”

“But at CNN, they are sad. They wanted her there forever,” Carlson continued.

Carlson asserted that Stelter “loved the idea of a Ministry of Truth,” because the CNN clown is himself “basically lifted directly from the pages of 1984, the Orwell novel.”

Carlson then quoted from the novel a passage describing Tom Parsons, a character who “works as a flack for the Ministry of Truth”:

He was a fattish but active man of paralyzing stupidity, a mass of imbecile enthusiasms. One of those completely unquestioning, devoted drudges on whom a more even than on the thought police, the stability of the party depended.

Shortage of Baby Formula Leads to Panic Buying

A North American shortage of baby formula is reaching crisis levels as Canadian parents have begun panic buying the infant nutritional products wherever they can find them.

Canadian parents are also concerned after finding out that baby formula produced at a taxpayer-funded factory in Ontario — which uses Canadian dairy — are all being sent to China.

Canada relies on imports from the US for its baby formula rather than domestically produced supplies.

Over two years since the announcement of “two weeks to slow the spread,” unvaccinated Canadians are still being prevented from traveling on airplanes or buses in Canada, and are essentially being prevented from leaving their own country. Many have lost their jobs.

Mr. Montenegrino brought up the stark contrast of how unvaccinated Canadians’ Charter rights are being treated in comparison to former Al-Qaeda militant Omar Khadr, who received over $10M from the Trudeau government as a result of having his Charter rights supposedly infringed upon.

In light of Jason Kenney’s shocking announcement, after narrowly passing his leadership review, that he would be stepping down as leader of the United Conservative Party, we asked people in attendance to what extent they believed his downfall resulted from broken promises and overreaching enforcement on the COVID-19 front. Kenney promised there would be no vaccine passports and promised an end to lockdowns, and he failed on both of those commitments.

Kenney also oversaw numerous targeted and high-profile arrests including small business owners, like Chris Scott, and most shockingly a series of pastors including the ongoing harassment, repeated arrests and incarceration of Pastor Artur Pawlowski. He was also broadly criticized for failing to balance pandemic response with consideration of potential adverse mental health outcomes and negative economic impacts.

“It’s Going to Get Truly Horrific”: Gas, Electricity Bills in Europe Could Jump to 4.5% of Disposable Income in 2023

By Charles Kennedy of OilPrice.com

The higher the energy bills in Europe become, the higher the chances are for a windfall tax on energy companies and utilities, as governments will be forced to ease the growing pressure on household finances, Citigroup says.

Europe as a whole could see a utility bill rise of over 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) through 2024, Citigroup Global Markets analysts Piotr Dzieciolowski, Jenny Ping, and Antonella Bianchessi wrote in a note on Monday carried by Bloomberg.

Gas and electricity bills in Europe could jump to 4.5 percent of household disposable income in 2023, up from 3.5 percent in 2021. The utility bills could further rise to 4.8 percent of household disposable income in 2024, according to Citi analysts.

Know what’s even more fun than eating bugs and owning nothing? Tracking your personal carbon footprint!

That’s right — according to J. Michael Evans, president of the Alibaba Group, a new social compliance platform tested in Chinese cities might be the wave of the future.

“We’re developing, through technology, an ability for consumers to measure their own carbon footprint. What does that mean? That’s, where are they traveling, how are they traveling, what are they eating, what are they consuming on the platform?” he told the World Economic Forum this week, adding “stay tuned, we don’t have it operational yet — but this is something we’re working on.”

We have Paul Kagame, the president of Rwanda, Peter Sands, the executive director of “Global Fund,” Francis D’Souza, the president of a company called “Illumina” that provides technology to analyze genetic variations, and last but not least, you guessed it, Bill Gates.

Watch: ‘World Economic Forum Police’ Detain American Conservative Journalist Jack Posobiec at Davos

American conservative journalist Jack Posobiec was detained in Switzerland while he was covering the summit of globalist elites in the ski resort town of Davos, with commenters noting the Swiss local police wearing “World Economic Forum Police” patches on their uniforms.

Heavily armed Swiss officers, appearing to be from the Ordnungsdienst police force, allegedly “frisked” and detained Human Events Daily host and Turning Point USA contributor Jack Posobiec on Monday afternoon.

[…]

The officers, who also told independent journalist Savanah Hernandez not to film them, claimed they have a right to not be filmed in Switzerland, despite there not appearing to be a federal law prohibiting people from filming police.

Hernandez, who travelled to the summit on behalf of Canada’s Rebel News, questioned the officers about why Posobeic was being detained.

A police representative said in the footage: “We are just doing a normal police control because, you know, it’s WEF, everything is very sensitive.”…

‘Blue-Checks’ Furious After Henry Kissinger Says Ukraine Should Cede Territory for Peace With Russia

Veteran US statesman Henry Kissinger has urged the West to stop trying to inflict a crushing defeat on Russian forces in Ukraine, warning that it would have disastrous consequences for the long term stability of Europe.

“I hope the Ukrainians will match the heroism they have shown with wisdom,” Kissinger warned an audience at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, adding with his famous sense of realpolitik that the proper role for the country is to be a neutral buffer state rather than the frontier of Europe.

As The Telegraph’s Ambrose Evans-Pritchard reports, Kissinger’s comments came amid growing signs that the Western coalition against Vladimir Putin is fraying badly as the food and energy crisis deepens, and that sanctions may have reached their limits.

Henry Kissinger: Ukraine Must Give Russia Territory

Former US Secretary of State warns against the defeat of Putin as Western unity on sanctions frays badly

Veteran US statesman Henry Kissinger has urged the West to stop trying to inflict a crushing defeat on Russian forces in Ukraine, warning that it would have disastrous consequences for the long term stability of Europe.

The former US secretary of state and architect of the Cold War rapprochement between the US and China told a gathering in Davos that it would be fatal for the West to get swept up in the mood of the moment and forget the proper place of Russia in the European balance of power.

Dr Kissinger said the war must not be allowed to drag on for much longer, and came close to calling on the West to bully Ukraine into accepting negotiations on terms that fall very far short of its current war aims.

“Negotiations need to begin in the next two months before it creates upheavals and tensions that will not be easily overcome. Ideally, the dividing line should be a return to the status quo ante. Pursuing the war beyond that point would not be about the freedom of Ukraine, but a new war against Russia itself,” he said.

He told the World Economic Forum that Russia had been an essential part of Europe for 400 years and had been the guarantor of the European balance of power structure at critical times. European leaders should not lose sight of the longer term relationship, and nor should they risk pushing Russia into a permanent alliance with China.

“I hope the Ukrainians will match the heroism they have shown with wisdom,” he said, adding with his famous sense of realpolitik that the proper role for the country is to be a neutral buffer state rather than the frontier of Europe…

UK Backs Plan to Escort Grain Ships Past Russia’s Naval Blockade of Ukraine

The United Kingdom supports a proposal by Lithuania to recruit an international fleet of naval warships to break the Russian blockade of Ukraine which is preventing the export of huge amounts of grain to the rest of the world.

Millions of tons of grain are stuck inside Ukraine and without it, levels of world hunger are considered highly likely to rise and may even trigger another migrant crisis. Such is the background to the suggestion by Lithuania that a so-called “coalition of the willing” of warships outside the structures of NATO could work together on getting food out of Ukraine’s seaports.

Germany: Proportion of Foreign Pupils in Berlin Schools Concealed

Berlin’s mayor Giffey wants even more immigration for her already ethnically “diversified” city. Meanwhile, the problems of imported “diversity” are swept under the carpet: The Senate wants to conceal the huge language and integration problems in the capital’s schools by no longer publishing information on the proportion of foreign or non-German-speaking pupils.

The Red-Green-Red Senate in Berlin is truly trying everything to conceal the consequences of its disastrous migration policy. This also extends to parents’ choice of school for their children. For some time now, it has been planned to remove information on the number of pupils where German is not spoken at home (“non-German language of origin”, abbreviated “ndH”) from the school directory. However, this is often the most important for parents when looking for a school for their children.
