France’s Economy Unexpectedly Grinds to a Halt in First Quarter

The French economy unexpectedly ground to a halt in the first part of the year due to a combination of factors exacerbated by the war in Ukraine.

Rising inflation, the energy crisis, the Omicron covid wave and supply chain problems all played a part in the economy’s stagnation in the first quarter, with figures from INSEE — the French National Statistics Institute — showing zero growth (0%).

This contrasts with the institute’s previous estimate of 0.3%, while as recently as 12 April, the Bank of France was expecting a small increase in the gross domestic product (GDP) of 0.25%.

‘It Will Get Worse, You’Ll See’: Euro Inflation Adds to Lithuania’s Economic Woes

Driving a taxi in Lithuania’s third-largest city, Klaipeda, Antanas Jonauskas feels the genuine impact of the Baltic nation’s status as the bloc’s worst-hit by Europe’s inflation crisis.

“For one euro, now you cannot buy even a pack of roasted peanuts for a snack. The prices are just out of control and there is no glimmer of hope that things can get better soon,” he said.

In March, Lithuania had the highest inflation rate in the EU of 15.7%, according to Eurostat, driven by energy costs that surged by almost 13% in Europe in the last month alone.

Lithuania stands out as the top leader of that grim ranking, and the rocketing price of goods while the euro keeps faltering is on the mind of most of its citizens.

Return of Weimar? German Inflation Hits Highest Level in Four Decades

Inflation rose to its highest level in over four decades in Germany, as the economic fallout from years of lockdown restrictions and the Russian invasion of Ukraine continue to bite the leading economic power of the European Union.

Germany’s statistics agency Destatis announced on Thursday that consumer prices rose by 7.4 per cent in the month of April compared to the same time last year. The inflation rate is the highest level since 1981 in West Germany, when the country was divided by the Berlin Wall.

Couple Return From Vacation to Empty House, Squatters in Bed

An American couple returned from vacation to find their door broken in, belongings gone, and a pair of squatters sleeping in their bed—the only piece of furniture left behind.

The Greenbelt City, Maryland couple made the discovery after returning from a seven day vacation on April 5.

The theft was remarkably thorough. Residents estimated the loss amounted to about $49,000, and included everything in the apartment from clothing to kitchen cabinet doors.

The couple found a black male and a white woman lying on their bed upon arrival at their apartment. After a brief confrontation, the intruders left the residence before authorities could arrive on the scene.

Greenbelt City Police say the couple remains at large and are encouraging anyone with relevant information about the event to call 301-474-7200 or email greenbeltpd@greenbeltmd.gov.

Evidence of Farming on Exoplanets Should be Visible to the James Webb Telescope

One of the key developments separating modern civilization from the hunter gatherer societies of the past is the invention of farming, which took place about 10,000 years ago. This began with the cultivation of wild plants and the domestication of various animals for dairy products and meat.

The big advantage of farming is that it sustains a much larger population than hunting and gathering. This led to the emergence of cities, the sharing of natural resources and of ideas and innovations.

It has also had a big impact on the Earth itself. The effects of farming are visible in the grid-like arrangement of fields, in the way light is reflected from photosynthetic plants and in the chemicals it releases into the atmosphere, particularly by industrial-scale agriculture.

Now a group of astronomers and astrobiologists say this atmospheric signature must be clearly visible from space and that a similar signal could also be generated by a farm on another planet.

Scooping Private Data Doesn’t Violate Fourth Amendment if the Owner Can Still Access it, Court Rules

The US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals appears to have given the government permission to order anyone’s internet account data copied and held without any cause, whenever they want, without providing any justification, according to University of California, Berkeley School of Law professor Orin Kerr’s analysis of a recent Ninth Circuit briefing that affirmed Carsten Igor Rosenow’s conviction and sentencing for sexually exploiting children in the Philippines.

In his appeal to the Ninth Circuit, Rosenow argued that he had a right to privacy in his digital data and that law enforcement requests to preserve his Yahoo! account data, which were submitted without a warrant after a tip from Yahoo!, violated the Fourth Amendment’s protection against unreasonable search and seizure.

But the Ninth Circuit rejected his argument and affirmed his conviction, saying that Yahoo!’s preservation of Rosenow’s records didn’t amount to an unreasonable seizure because the preservation requests didn’t prevent him from accessing his account and Yahoo! didn’t provide the government with access to his data without further legal process.

Hepatitis Outbreak Strike Young European Children, UK Hardest Hit

Europe is facing an influx of acute hepatitis cases — or liver inflammation — in young children, with the United Kingdom the most severely effected country. Several of the children even had to undergo a liver transplant, and with scientists unsure what is causing the severe cases of hepatitis, there are worries more cases could be on the horizon.

Currently, Western European countries are most affected, with 55 cases in European Union nations, according to the World Health Organization. However, the United Kingdom reported the most cases, 145 since January, with ten children already undergoing a liver transplant due to severe jaundice. Of the 145 cases, 38 are still in the hospital. The hepatitis outbreak comes at the same time as the increase in tuberculosis cases in countries like the Czech Republic.

Latest News in the Russia-Ukraine War

Ukraine: Gasoline shortages were felt by thousands of Ukrainians traveling across the country to return to homes they left behind when the war began in February. Ukrainian officials pledged to resolve the crisis through new contracts from Western Europe.

Ukrainian troops raised the flag above the town of Ruska Lozova, north of Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city. Ukraine said Russian troops were continuing their efforts to gain full control of the Donbas region in the east of the country, where heavy fighting continued.

American volunteers are in Ukraine teaching local forces how to use Javelin antitank missiles, as Kyiv’s Western allies race to supply NATO-standard heavy weapons and train Ukrainian forces. Poland, meanwhile, has sent at least 240 tanks to Ukraine, enough for two brigades, along with other heavy equipment, officials said.

Russia Has Made Debt Payments in US$

In this regard, the Americans have recently been intensively exaggerating the topic of default in Russia, as they believed that the Russian Federation would not be able to pay off its debt obligations with foreign investors. In order to be more confident that our country will not get out of this “financial trap”, on April 4, the United States imposed a ban on Moscow using its frozen dollar reserves for payments on Eurobonds.

However, contrary to US expectations, the default in Russia is cancelled. Today it became known that the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation fulfilled its obligations under the Russia-2022 and Russia-2042 Eurobonds in a timely manner. Moreover, payments were made in dollars for a hefty sum of $564.8 million and $84.4 million, respectively.

Russia Preparing to Increase Military Action in East — Ukrainian Defence Ministry

Russian troops are gradually increasing the intensity of their offensive in eastern Ukraine, a spokesman for the Ukrainian defence ministry has said.

Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said in a briefing there were “signs that the aggressor is preparing for an even bigger activation of military actions”.

“We are seeing signs that Russia is also building up its grouping in the eastern operating zone… and is now increasing its desire to seize as much Ukrainian territory as possible,” he said.

Motuzyanyk said Russia was continuing air strikes on the southern port city of Mariupol.

“The main efforts of the occupants are concentrated on blocking our units near the Azovstal plant, he said, though some troops were being redeployed further east, he said.

Motuzyanyk accused Russian troops of forcibly taking residents from the Kharkiv region to the Russian Federation…

Swedish Police: Illegal Afghan Migrant Raped Woman Then Threw Her Down a Mine Shaft

Swedish police have arrested a man in his 40s from Afghanistan on suspicion of raping a woman in Norberg before pushing her down a mine shaft, according to local news.

Samnytt.se reported the suspect most likely arrived in Sweden during the refugee crisis in 2015, however he remained in the country following the expiration of his residence permit and never returned to his homeland, once again highlighting Europe’s notoriously ineffective deportation mechanisms.

The suspect has been named in the Swedish press as 41-year-old Mohamad Amini, however his identity has not been officially confirmed by Swedish authorities who have not yet been able to clarify where he comes from, although indications point strongly towards an Afghan origin. The man apparently has three children but is not married.

Connecticut Signs on as Abortion ‘Sanctuary State’

The Connecticut State Senate on Friday passed legislation protecting abortion providers in an apparent “direct response” to abortion bans enacted in other US states.

This means Connecticut has joined other states, like Colorado and California, in becoming a “sanctuary state” for abortion providers, who are becoming persona non grata in other parts of the country.

Elites Are Harvesting Your Excrement

This information collection starts close to home where we frequently deposit our samples into our sewers, which meets up with a wide range of other waste as it heads to our wastewater treatment facilities. These collection facilities are meant to remove the solids within wastewater, at which point the water is sanitized to some degree and released back into nature.

In the past, entrepreneurs like Bill Gates salivated over the notion of making drinking water from this kind of excrement, and intergovernmental organizations like the United Nations have promoted the necessity of its management. Non-government organizations like the World Economic Forum have called for this wastewater to be considered a valuable resource.

‘Underhanded’: School Invites Students to Observe LGBTQ Day Without Parents’ Knowledge

Whether you know it or not, your child’s school may have observed a “Day of Silence” on behalf of the LGBTQ movement.

The advocacy group GLSEN invited schools across the country to hold a demonstration Friday to show support for LGBTQ students and their allies.

GLSEN encouraged participants to “take a vow of silence to protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ people in schools,” according to the group’s website.

The Day of Silence would end, the group said, with participants holding “Breaking the Silence” rallies and events “to share their experiences during the protest and bring attention to ways their schools and communities can become more inclusive.”

One parent, whose son attends a private high school in Connecticut that has no religious affiliation, told The Daily Signal that her “suspicion” is that “a lot of schools, especially private schools, were participating in this.”

  1. Hungarians Join Separate Protests in Support of Russia, Ukraine

Yesterday, on the social network VKontakte, I saw a video from the Ukrainian region of Zakrapattya, where ethnic non-Ukrainians live – Hungarians, Rusyns, etc. They refuse to fight for Ukraine. The military office was destroyed.

  2. Swedish Police: Illegal Afghan Migrant Raped Woman Then Threw Her Down a Mine Shaft

The ex-wife of Mohamad Amini, who is in custody on suspicion of raping and pushing a woman into a mine, has disappeared without a trace since 2020.

Amini and the woman arrived in Sweden with their three children in 2015. In a conversation with the Swedish Migration Board in 2018, a woman said that she was afraid of this man. The following year, the woman and two children filed a restraining order against the man, but the request was denied.

A year after the application was rejected, the couple’s joint child stated that the mother was missing. She has not been found yet.

Under interrogation about illegal driving, the now detained man says he does not know where the woman is.

Amini had a 2017 expulsion order that came into effect in 2018.

    Vladimir Vladimirovich, don’t leave!

I understand that the time has come to realize the fiasco that ended your quarter-century administration of Russia. There is no good way out of the Ukrainian crisis that you personally created. There are bad ones and very bad ones. Each new captured suburb or city only exacerbates the situation.

NATO – a community of non-believers, that is, countries and people who for some reason do not believe in the peacefulness of the USSR and Russia – receives new arguments and grows stronger.

Sanctions guarantee that subsequent scientific and technological revolutions in the world will take place without our participation. Moreover, they lead to the fact that the day after tomorrow, moreover, isolated Russia will not be able to even scratch the results of these revolutions, assimilate them and use them to their advantage.

And under these conditions, you can’t just drop everything with the words “I’m tired, I’m leaving.” For the reason that people can jump on your throne, who will plant Russia even deeper on the stake on which you have already planted it.

In addition, the army, stuck and (or) lost in the Ukrainian steppes, and thus absent from Russia itself, greatly helps the growth of separatist sentiments and projects. The sanctions imposed on “Russia” suggest to the regional elites that in order to get out from under them, one must call oneself “non-Russia”. And newborn nationalisms are rarely non-bloodthirsty.

I respect your desire to leave. It is your choice to leave physically or politically. But before that, you must ensure the “transit of power” past those who are now trampling around the throne in a “greedy crowd”, i.e. past your yesterday’s favorites.

A Duma unanimous with you without you will only aggravate the situation. Therefore, before leaving, it would probably be worth dissolving it.

It makes sense to preempt your departure by changing the leadership of the TV channels so that they can begin the denazification of Russia, contrary to what they have been doing for the past ten years.

The most difficult and most important thing is to find a person who could convince the West not to avenge you on the entire population of Russia for decades.

The second difficult most task is to explain to your “siloviki” that they should not touch him, but, on the contrary, should support him – for their own good and the good of Russia.

When creating a crisis, it is necessary to calculate ways out of it in case “something goes wrong.” You did not do this in the winter, but now is the time to brainstorm on this very topic, replacing all other assaults with them.

In general – when leaving, please do not turn off the light.

Hm. Personally, I am still convinced that Putin is a dependent figure, and by arranging the Ukrainian crisis, he is fulfilling the task set by someone.
The main one is the destruction of the Russian and Ukrainian people, as well as plunging the world into chaos.

Update on Russian military operations in Ukraine for May 1, 2022

    1. US continues sending old equipment including M113 tracked armored transports;

    2. US is not discussing sending US-made air defense systems – likely because it is so impractical;

    3. Pentagon is providing crash-courses, unable to replace the loss of trained personnel created over the last 8 years;

    4. US narrative continues to center on Russian “war of aggression;”

    5. US also continues to ignore Russian security concerns;

    6. US media admits Ukrainian security forces are dragging Russian-speakers away to prison for political speech.

    • Item 4 – It is a “Russian war of aggression” because Russia invaded Ukraine. There is no way out of that.
Item 5 – Russia has valid security concerns, but they don’t justify an invasion.
Item 6 – I wonder what Russia is doing with ant-war protestors?

All things considered, I don’t see any “good guys” in Ukraine, but I am most angry with the factions external to Ukraine that provoked Russia. If there had never been any discussion of NATO membership, if those biolabs were not in Ukraine, if, if, if.

      • @ Harry the Horrible

Re: “It is a “Russian war of aggression” because Russia invaded Ukraine. There is no way out of that.”

If you accept the propaganda and disinformation being pumped by the U.S.-NATO “Ministry of Truth,” maybe… but the picture gets very different once the facts of the matter are examined.

It is of course regrettable that the war was necessary in the first place, and that negotiations could not have prevented current events. As Churchill once said “Jaw, jaw, jaw is always preferable to war, war, war…” – talking and negotiating is better than fighting.

However, the fact remains that the U.S. & NATO powers have been committing acts of aggression against Russia for a long time now, including in the Ukraine, right on Russia’s doorstep.

President Yanukovych backed out of signing a lucrative energy development deal with western multinationals and the billionaires, and decided to go with Russia instead, which was his right as the duly-elected leader of the Ukraine. The western power-brokers, though, said he had to go – and by and by, a CIA & MI6 led coup toppled Yanukovych and installed the pro-western puppet government of Zelensky, which happens to be neo-fascist by the way.

Zelensky’s government has been using artillery to shell the pro-Russian eastern half of the country for eight years now, at the cost of thousands of lives of civilians, including many Russians or people with ties to Russia.

Under international law, President Putin is well within his rights to intercede – if for no other reason than to assure the safety of Russian nationals and Russian business interests in the region.

Moreover, since the Zelensky government has been waging what amounts to an undeclared war on the Eastern Ukraine, the residents of that area and their allies in Russia are again well within their rights under international law to intervene to put a stop to that aggression. With force, if needs be.

Re: “Russia has valid security concerns, but they don’t justify an invasion.”

Moscow has exhausted all of its other options, since the U.S. & NATO refuse to hold negotiations and refuse to admit that Russia and the Eastern Ukraine have legitimate grievances. The U.S. & the NATO alliance are also supplying Zelensky’s government and military forces with weapons and other war material.

The supplying of weapons and war material to a belligerent by an allegedly neutral power – in this case the U.S.-NATO block – is a legitimate cause for war or cassus belli on the part of the other party or parties in that conflict. In other words, should Russia choose to target the U.S. directly, she has legitimate grounds for doing so under international law. The only reason she has not done so is that Putin is a cool customer and knows the implications of such an act.

I wish we could say the same of the so-called “leaders” on the U.S.-NATO side of the fence. Alas, we cannot – and Biden and company seem bound-and-determined to blunder all of us into a war no one can win.

And please don’t waste your time and effort accusing me of being “pro-Russian” or some such ad-hominem attack. I am anti-nuclear war is what I am – and I think it is madness to engage in the kind of reckless conduct now taking by place by Washington D.C. and in Brussels, the HQ of NATO. If they’re not careful, they may touch off WWIII.

The Russians, regardless of what one may think of them, are armed to the teeth with nukes. It is unwise in the extreme to engage in reckless brinksmanship of the kind the West is now doing, given that reality. That is, unless you want to get incinerated in a nuclear holocaust.

  5. Re: “Many migrants do not want to be integrated into Sweden. Many resist Swedishness. They want to tear down what has been built up here over centuries.”

This has been known for at least two decades, if not more. The so-called “migrants” – many of them military-age Muslim males – admit that they are in Sweden because they can go on the public dole and collect cradle-to-grave social welfare benefits from the moment their feet touch Swedish soil (they can even apply for such benefits while in transit towards their new home… how hospitable are those Swedes!). Free of the obligation of having to work, they are free to spend their creating mischief far-and-wide.

“Though this is hardly news, it is something seven out of eight parliamentary parties do not take into account; rather they assume that all migrants want to become part of Swedish society.”

The Swedes – like so many other ordinary people across Europe – have been fed a steady diet of excuses, rationalizations, half-baked lies and other disinformatzia – for a long time now, yet most seem not yet to have seen through the ruse. This litany of reasons offered up for the transformation of their nation does not stand up to any sort of rigorous examination, nor does it pass the smell test.

Sometimes, in order to figure out a mystery, you have to look at what is there, what is visible, what has been said and done. But sometimes, you have to go about it differently by looking for what isn’t there, what hasn’t been said, what has not been done. Sherlock Holmes’ famous dog which did not bark in the nighttime.

We know the authorities and politicians in Sweden are being dishonest because Muslims – in particular young Muslim men – have been allowed to run riot for years throughout Sweden with virtually no unpleasant or negative consequences to themselves, let alone actual criminal charges and punishment, in many cases.

These jihadists and invaders have done everything from the gang-rape of Swedish girls and women to grooming gangs to mass arson and the setting fire of cars to grenade and automatic weapon attacks upon police stations, yet nothing substantive is done by the authorities to reign in the chaos, violence and mayhem. Why?

The only answer can be that what is happening is supposed to happen, and that the authorities and their bosses at some level approve of what is taking place. They want regular people to think it is just lack of funding, incompetence, indifference, or politics-as-usual, but none of these excuses stand up to scrutiny. The authorities have gone so far as to blame Swedes themselves, by saying that they have not been welcoming enough to the newcomers in their midst!

Yes-indeed… “The beatings will continue until morale improves!”

One of the reasons the Swedish government, like so many others across western and northern Europe (and at the EU proper), has enacted such draconian anti-discrimination laws is not out of respect for the feelings of Muslims – but because they do not want dissent to break out among the population about the “Great Replacement” now taking place in their respective towns and cities. A steady diet of pro-Islamic propaganda is needed to tamp down such rebelliousness and keep the native Europeans from getting too restive.

What is really occurring in Sweden is a form of 4GW, “fourth-generation warfare,” also known as asymmetrical or irregular warfare, and the soldiers of Allah are being used as its spearhead. It’s the old Hegelian dialectic in action, or “never let a crisis go to waste…”

Provoke or create a crisis of some kind, in this case the disruption and destruction of civil society in what was once one of the most-peaceful societies on earth in Sweden. Feed fuel into the fire such that the crisis reaches a climax, sufficient to provoke a backlash or reaction. And then when the opportunity is ripe, the creators of the crisis ride in the save things, disguised as the “good guys” – and in a way that benefits them and their agenda.

In a nutshell, this is the modus operandi of the globalist oligarchs – “manufactured crisis” and social engineering on a massive scale – the means by which they have advanced their agenda since the end of WWII. Of course, during the early years, they could not be so forthright in their actions, but in recent decades – they have become emboldened and more brazened in their actions and public statements.

    • The problem with these oligarchs is that they are weak men only attracted to power by greed, in the end they will run into strong ruthless men who will do away with these weak men and their wretched families where the natural order of all things will take place. The people by being weak, feckless and dumbed down by frivolities will soon find out what it really is to be ruled by the strongmen once again.
