J.D. Vance Secures Trump Endorsement in Hotly Contested Ohio Senate Race

Author J.D. Vance’s bid for the hotly contested Republican US Senate seat in Ohio got a boost Friday when he was endorsed by his former adversary Donald Trump.

The endorsement in the GOP primary race came after Vance, 37, walked back previous criticisms of Trump in a charm offensive meant to secure his backing in the race — which is expected to largely be decided by supporters of the ex-president.

Trump gave the coveted nod to Vance over rivals Josh Mandel, Mike Gibbons and Jane Timken, calling him “the candidate most qualified and ready to win in November,” in a statement.

Man Found Guilty in Deaths of 2 Utah Teens Found in Mine Shaft

SALT LAKE CITY — The case of a teenage couple killed and tossed down an abandoned mine shaft culminated in murder convictions Friday for a Utah man who prosecutors said killed the pair because he found them hanging out with his girlfriend.

Jarrod Baum, 45, faces up to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of two counts of aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping and other counts in the 2017 slayings after a monthlong trial.

Brelynne “Breezy” Otteson, 17, and Riley Powell, 18, disappeared days after Christmas. Their bound and stabbed bodies were found months later in Utah’s west desert, 100 feet down an abandoned mine shaft.

Prosecutors said they died after meeting up with a friend, Morgan Lewis, on Dec. 30 at her home in Eureka, a former silver mining town. While they were there, her boyfriend, Baum, returned home. He grew angry because he had forbidden Lewis from having male friends over, and she previously dated Powell.

Lewis told police her boyfriend tied up Otteson and Powell, duct-taped their mouths and threw them in the back of Powell’s Jeep. Then he drove them to the site of an abandoned mine outside town.

There, he beat and stabbed Powell before cutting Ottenson’s throat, then tossed them down.

“He retaliated against Riley and Morgan and made her watch so she would know this is what happens when you break my rules,” said prosecutor Ryan McBride, Fox13 reported…

Ten People Shot and Wounded in Gunfire at South Carolina Mall

Police detained three people but stopped short of calling them suspects, saying the shooting arose from a personal dispute

Ten people were shot and wounded at a shopping mall just outside Columbia, South Carolina’s capital, police said on Saturday afternoon.

The wounded ranged in age from 15 to 73, and first responders brought eight to the hospital, said the Columbia police chief, William Holbrook. Two of those brought to the hospital were in critical condition, with six being reported as less critically wounded, Holbrook added.

Another two people who were shot brought themselves to the hospital, while two others suffered wounds that weren’t related to the gunfire, but resulted from a stampede caused by the shooting, bringing the total number of injured to 12.

Holbrook said police detained three people following the shooting but stopped short of calling them suspects. At least one of the three fired a gun, and all three had weapons, Holbrook said.

Holbrook said the shooting appeared to erupt from a dispute involving people who knew each other.

“We do not believe this was random,” Holbrook said. “We believe that the individuals that were armed knew each other. There was some type of conflict that had occurred that resulted in gunfire. This was not a situation where we had some random person show up at a mall to just try and fire to injure people.”

Officers were searching the mall to let people who hid inside during the shooting know that it was safe to emerge. Those who were separated from loved ones amid the chaos were also being brought to a reunification center at a hotel down the street from the mall…

Finland “Highly Likely” to Join NATO, Its Europe Minister Says

Finland, which shares an 830-mile border with Russia, is “highly likely” to join NATO despite the Russian government’s threats to deploy nuclear weapons, Finnish Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen said in an interview with Sky News Friday.

Why it matters: Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine has galvanized Sweden and Finland, two historically neutral countries, into joining the defensive alliance. Russia is threatening to bolster its defenses in the Baltic, including deploying nuclear weapons to the region, as retaliation.

What she’s saying: “The people of Finland, they seem to have already made up their mind,” Tuppurainen told Sky News, noting that polls show overwhelming support for joining NATO.

UK: Six Extinction Rebellion Activists Arrested After Climbing Onto Oil Tanker in London

LONDON (AP) — Six people have been arrested after climate change activists climbed onto an oil tanker in central London to protest investments in fossil fuel, British police said Saturday.

The oil tanker protest was part of mass climate demonstrations Friday that saw hundreds of activists blocking four key bridges across the British capital, causing delays and disruption across central London.

Extinction Rebellion said thousands of people are expected at London’s Hyde Park on Saturday for more protests.

More than 600 people have been arrested over the past two weeks after environmental activists climbed atop oil tankers, padlocked themselves to structures and blocked roads at oil depots across the U.K. The group Just Stop Oil, which is affiliated with Extinction Rebellion, is demanding that Britain’s Conservative government stop any new oil and gas projects.

Latest News in the Russia-Ukraine War

Ukraine: Russia’s Defense Ministry said the urban areas of the besieged city of Mariupol had been cleared of Ukrainian troops, with local military resistance isolated at a metallurgical plant.

Ukraine’s armed forces said Russian military units were continuing to blockade and shell the city of Kharkiv, as they regroup in the Donbas region.

Russia: The U.S. confirmed that the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet sank Thursday after being hit by a Ukrainian cruise-missile attack. Its sinking recalled great naval battles of the past that are remembered as turning points.

Russia warned it could station nuclear forces in Northern Europe if Finland and Sweden join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Western governments are using sanctions to target an expanding list of Russian billionaires and Kremlin elites.

Moscow Bars Entry to Russia for UK’s Johnson, Truss, Wallace

Russia’s foreign ministry said on Saturday that it had barred entry to the country for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, Defense Secretary Ben Wallace and 10 other British government members and politicians.

It came at the end of a week during which Moscow warned in a formal diplomatic note to Washington warning that continued US and NATO weapons shipments to Ukraine could bring “unpredictable consequences.”

The letter came as President Biden approved $800 million in new military aide for Ukraine.

Brand New in the Gender Repertoire: ‘Lesbian Men’

One of the latest outgrowths of ideologically deliberate gender confusion was recently demonstrated by the example of a fifty-year-old master painter from Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany: He has come to the conclusion that he is a “lesbian man”.

This insight came to him after observing a lesbian couple and their interaction with their son. A friend of the couple then “said hello” to him — and that was apparently the spark. After he had investigated the question “Are there men who like lesbian women?” on the internet, he found out: “I am a lesbian man. That’s the minority of the minority.” And now “suddenly everything is clear”.

Ludlow Public Schools Secretly Promoted Our Kids’ Gender Transition, Parents Allege

A Massachusetts school district secretly promoted the gender transitions of a pair of siblings against their parent’s wishes, the outraged adults claim in a lawsuit.

They had asked Paul L. 1. If some of the rumors are true:
After the fall of the USSR the russians offered the germans the Kaliningrad enclave for a few billions of euros.
Kohl wanted to accept, but Genscher and a lot of the european leaders said NO. Too much of German Empire, 3rd Reich etc. Not to forget that Poland wanted to have the area too.

Just imagine Kohl would have gone through. Then Kaliningrad, sorry then-now Königsberg, would be german – I assume demilitarized, but no nukes – and we wouldnt have some of the worries of today.

To use a phrase of evil people: They didnt look beyond the curve (looking into the future).
