Argentina Inflation Surged to 20-Year High in March
(Bloomberg) — Argentina’s inflation rate galloped to its fastest pace in March since 2002, challenging a strategy by the government to cool prices that already lacked support from within the ruling coalition.
Consumer prices rose 6.7% last month compared to February, the highest level since Argentina was in one of its worst economic crises 20 years ago. Inflation reached 55.1% from a year ago, the highest annual level of President Alberto Fernandez’s presidency and most since June 2019. Both results were above all forecasts among economists surveyed by Bloomberg.
Prices for education, textiles, utilities and food all exceeded the headline figure in March. Core inflation accelerated to 6.4% too.
Economy Minister Martin Guzman had already warned on Monday that price increases for March would be above at least 6%, surpassing economists’ expectations at the time.

UK Inflation Hits 30-Year High of 7% as Energy Prices Surge
LONDON — U.K. inflation came in at an annual 7% in March — its highest for 30 years — as soaring food and energy prices continue to squeeze consumers and pose a dilemma for policymakers.

DuckDuckGo Introduces Its Own Desktop Browser, Starting With MacOS
DuckDuckGo, a privacy-focused company, has announced its MacOS browser is available in beta. The plans for the desktop browser were announced in December 2021.
While the company has recently been criticized for its censorship, privacy is the main focus of the MacOS browser. The default search engine will be the company’s private search engine. Man Charged With Murder After Pedestrian Run Down Dies in Custody at Hospital
A Gloucester County man arrested last month on charges that he ran down a pedestrian with his minivan following a dispute has died in custody from an apparent medical issue, authorities confirmed.
Giovanni Esposito, 68, who was charged with murder in the killing of Michael G. Cranmer, 31, in Paulsboro, died April 8 at Cooper University Hospital, according to Salem County Correctional Facility Warden John Cuzzupe.
Based on a preliminary review, Esposito’s death was the result of a medical issue, Cuzzupe said, but the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the matter.
Details on the nature of his health problem were not disclosed.
Esposito was transferred from the jail to Salem Medical Center on April 5, then transferred to Cooper University Hospital, Camden, on April 7, Cuzzupe said, before dying the following day.
Esposito allegedly drove onto a Paulsboro sidewalk on the afternoon of March 20 and ran down Cranmer, who was homeless and living in a wooded area in the borough, according to Gloucester County prosecutors.
A witness who claimed he knew both men said each had described a feud, though the nature of the dispute was not disclosed during court proceedings. Esposito had allegedly struck Cranmer with the minivan on a previous occasion, causing only minor injuries, prosecutors said…

Oberlin College Still Has Not Paid $33 Million Owed to Family-Run Bakery for Defamation Lawsuit
Ohio’s Oberlin College lost their defamation lawsuit appeal against Gibson Bakery at the beginning of April. But the school continues to contest paying the family financial compensation over accusations that the local business was “racist.”
According to the Daily Mail, Oberlin was originally obligated to pay $40 million, but that settlement was later reduced to $25 million in damages and another $6 million in legal fees. Oberlin College was ordered by Ohio’s state appeals court to pay Gibson’s Bakery, but the college continues to contest the payout, and says it is considering its options.

A veteran volunteer firefighter in Absecon, New Jersey, was suspended for 30 days for liking a Facebook post. He could face further punishment for violating the suspension.

Wisconsin should soon have an answer about ballot drop boxes and just who can return absentee ballots.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments Wednesday morning in the case Richard Teigen v. Wisconsin Elections Commission.
It is the challenge to the Elections Commission’s guidance to local election managers that voters can drop off their ballots, or ballots from other voters at drop boxes.
“[State law] says there are only two ways to return an absentee ballot, you mail it or you deliver it in-person to the clerk. Finland: Climate Change Extremists Block Train Carrying Russian Coal to Europe

Majority of Poles Support Government’s Response to Russian Invasion of Ukraine
A majority of Poles approve of the action taken by their country’s government in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, new polling shows.
According to a poll by the Institute of Market and Social Research IBRIS for the Rzeczpospolita newspaper, 65 percent of respondents considered the action taken by the Polish government on the international stage to be either “definitely good” or “rather good.”

Microchipping Humans is Already a Thing
A British-Polish firm has been selling implantable payment microchips for the past year.
Implantable microchips have been available since 1998. However, those that can allow users to make contactless payments were introduced by a British-Polish form called Walletmor last year.
The rice-grain sized microchip weighs less than a gram. The chip and its antenna are encased in a natural material that resembles plastic called biopolymer.
“The implant can be used to pay for a drink on the beach in Rio, a coffee in New York, a haircut in Paris — or at your local grocery store,” Walletmor’s founder and chief executive Wojtek Paprota told the BBC. “It can be used wherever contactless payments are accepted.

Swedish Folk Band Cancelled Because They Play a Russian Musical Instrument
A Swedish folk band was banned from performing at a benefit concert to support Ukraine because they play a Russian musical instrument, with outraged critics claiming the balalaika was as bad as displaying a Nazi swastika.

UK: Lloyd’s of London Switches to Remote Trading After Climate Protests
LONDON, April 12 (Reuters) — Lloyds of London said on Tuesday it had advised its employees and market participants not to come to their City of London headquarters on Tuesday and was trading remotely after climate activists blocked several entrances to the building.
Extinction Rebellion said more than 60 people had gathered at the insurance market’s flagship building to demand it “stop insuring fossil fuels including coal, tar sands, oil and gas.”
Protestors used superglue, chains and bike locks to block entrances with the aim of forcing Lloyd’s to close for the day, the group said. Climbers also scaled the outside of the building and dropped a banner which said ‘End fossil fuels now’.

Soviet Era Drone That Crashed in Croatia Carried Aerial Bomb, Experts Say
A Soviet era reconnaissance drone that crashed in the Croatian capital of Zagreb last month without causing any harm to residents carried an aerial bomb that exploded after hitting the ground, a panel of experts say.
The investigators did not want to reveal the drone’s intended target or who had sent it, but Hungary had said that the Tupolev TU-141 drone was detected by radar in Hungarian airspace after being detected over Ukraine, and had entered Hungary via Romanian air space.
The drone, flying at 1,000 metres, flew from Hungary on March 10 and crashed seven minutes after entering Croatia’s air space, the Croatian government had said.
Both Hungary and Croatia are NATO members.

Ukraine: Russian forces advanced on a contested steelworks complex in Mariupol. Buses meant to deliver humanitarian aid and evacuate civilians were blocked by Russian soldiers, Ukraine said. Russia shelled civilian targets in the northeastern city of Kharkiv and the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, a hub for refugees who fled Mariupol, Ukraine said.

India’s Comptroller and Auditor General conducted an audit of the Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI) which oversees the twelve-digit biometric ID system “Aadhaar.” The audit found several issues caused by poor decision making by the authority and incompetence from service providers like HP and HCL.
Aadhaar is essential to accessing government services. UIDAI was tasked with collecting the biometrics needed to create the 12-digit Aadhaar; ten fingerprints, a face photo, and two iris scans.

At least seven boats carrying around 85 more migrants crossed the Channel this morning, bringing this year’s total so far to around 4,578.
Around 40 people were escorted from Dungeness and Dover harbour, Kent, on board an RNLI vessel at 3am, with the mostly male group seen wrapped in warm coats and blankets as they were led along the gangway to be processed.
Shortly after 9am a second RNLI lifeboat brought around 15 migrants to shore.
Less than an hour later, Border Force vessel Searcher escorted at least another 30 people to the port of Dover.
Today’s arrivals in Dungeness, Kent are just the second of the month after heavy winds in the Channel temporarily put a stop to small boat crossings.

Double Standard for Refugees in Czechia? You bet.
Though I find it interesting how the “Roma People” – when they are caught illegaly trading underage prostitutes in Britain – become “Czechs”, or when Canada opened up their border to the Czech Republic some time ago, and literally tens of thousands of gypsies went to Canada – to the promised land where people don’t lock their houses, can you imagine that? Yes, well, those “Canadian Gypsies” were also became “Czechs” when Canadians started to wonder where all the house robbers come from. But here – they are the “roma people”, out of a sudden!

Every year SCB makes a population forecast for Sweden broken down by age, gender and country of birth. Based on the figures, Fria Tider makes a population change forecast showing when people from third world countries will take over as the new majority population in Sweden.
According to the 2021 SCB figures, this would happen in 2028, but now it turns out that the population is expected to increase by between 900,000 and 1.7 million inhabitants by 2040 according to the SCB’s new forecast, while refugee migration from Ukraine is pushing back the importance of traditional Arab and African immigration.
However, the war makes the forecast very difficult to assess and SCB has therefore developed five different scenarios of future immigration, including people fleeing Ukraine who are now granted residence permits under the EU’s mass refugee directive.
In the fifth scenario, the population increases by 1.7 million to 12.1 million in 2040, with 750,000 coming from Ukraine.
However, Swedes will still be a minority in their own country and under the highest immigration scenario, this would happen as early as 2028.
Under this scenario, however, ethnic Europeans remain in the majority somewhat longer than under previous SCB estimates, which suggested that mainly Muslim immigrants from the Third World would take over the role of the majority population in Sweden as early as 2038.
