Venezuela Inflation Slows for Fifth Month, Closes January at 6.7%
CARACAS — Venezuela registered inflation of 6.7% in January, as the indicator slowed for the fifth consecutive month, the central bank said on Monday, amid a prolonged economic recession.
Credit restrictions and cuts to spending in the bolivar currency by the government, meant to control the bolivar to dollar exchange rate, have reduced inflation in recent months.
Consumer prices were up 7.6% in December, according to official figures. Inflation figures have been in single digits since September.
Transport was the sector with the highest increase in January, at 13%, while education increased 9.7% and communications saw a 9.5% increase.
The central bank does not give official 12-month figures but according to economists, the figure reached 472% through January.

Comedian Collapses on Stage After Telling Joke About Booster Shot
Onlookers who saw Heather McDonald collapse on stage after she bragged about taking the booster shot thought it was part of her act, but the comedian had to be rushed to hospital.
“I’m vaxxed, double vaxxed, boosted … and flu shot and shingle shot and haven’t gotten COVID and Jesus loves me most,” said McDonald during a show in Tempe, Arizona in what was only her second joke of the night.
The audience thought the joke and dramatic collapse was part of a skit, but it was no laughing matter.
“As soon as she delivered the joke, she just collapsed and hit her head on the floor,” reports TMZ. “Everyone thought at first it was all part of the act, but it was not. She was conscious, but clearly, all was not well. An EMT and a nurse happened to be in the audience … they rushed up on stage to provide first aid.”

Florida Senate Bill Attempts to Restrict Teachings of Critical Race Theory
Florida Senate Bill (SB) 148, the legislation attempting to restrict teachings of critical race theory (CRT) in educational and employment settings, has ventured through its first obstacles of enactment, driven by Gov. Ron Desantis and his colleagues.
The bill, filed on Jan. 11, gained approval from the State Senate Education Committee, on Jan. 18.
Proponents argue that this is the initial step in the direction of dismantling any CRT lessons taught in public schools and private businesses.

Florida Drawbridge Goes Up With Woman on it, Causing Deadly Fall
West Palm Beach police need help identifying woman who died when bridge went up with her on it
An investigation is underway in West Palm Beach into how and why a woman fell to her death while crossing a drawbridge that went up while she was walking across it.
Investigators said “an older woman” was walking her bicycle in the pedestrian lane of the Royal Park Bridge connecting the Town of Palm Beach to West Palm Beach around 1 p.m. She was coming from the island to the City of West Palm Beach when the incident happened.
As of Monday afternoon, the woman had not been identified. Anyone who may know her identity is asked to call 561-822-9100.
Detectives said she was next to the eastbound lanes when the panels of the bridge started to go into the air. At that point, investigators said she had to try to hold on to anything she could.
“There was a man who tried to help this woman as she was holding on to the elevated bridge, but unfortunately he was not able to rescue her,” said Mike Jachles, public information officer for the West Palm Beach Police Department. “Unfortunately and tragically, she fell, landing about 50 to 60 feet below, where the mechanical parts to the bridge are, and she died on impact…

Masks Now Optional in Geneva 304 as School Cancellation Prompts Protests
GENEVA, Ill. — Geneva District 304 canceled school Monday, prompting the use of an emergency day, which elicited rallies from enraged parents.
The decision comes after the district was named in a lawsuit filed in Sangamon County. Last Friday, a central Illinois judge issued a temporary restraining order that prevents school districts statewide, cited in the case, from requiring students to wear masks in classrooms.

Nancy Pelosi Spent Almost $500K on Private Jets Despite Climate Preaching
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has shelled out nearly $500,000 for private flights since October 2020, despite her claims that the US has a “moral obligation” to address climate change.
The California Democrat’s campaign paid Virginia-based Advanced Aviation Team a total of $423,707.62 for travel services on 10 occasions between October 2020 and December 2021, according to Federal Election Commission filings first reported by Fox News.
In January last year, the Pelosi team also paid California-based Clay Lacy Aviation $65,457.23, bringing the campaign’s private jet expenses to a grand total of $489,164.85.

New Jersey Announces it Will End State Mask Mandate in Its Public Schools
Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) has announced that the school mask mandate for his state will be no more starting on March 7.
“Effective March 7, the statewide mask mandate in schools will be lifted. Balancing public health with getting back to some semblance of normalcy is not easy. But we can responsibly take this step due to declining COVID numbers and growth in vaccinations,” states the governor’s Twitter account on Monday.

NY Times Fact-Checker Missed Assertion About Palin in 2017 Editorial
A New York Times fact-checker said in court Monday that she didn’t look over the assertion in a 2017 editorial of a clear link between a map circulated by Sarah Palin’s political action committee and the 2011 mass shooting that wounded Rep. Gabby Giffords.
Eileen Lepping, who appeared at Palin’s Manhattan federal court trial against the Times via video, said the error could be attributed to a “combination of things,” including her working quickly because she was on deadline.

NYC Workers Protest Vaccine Mandate Ahead of Termination Deadline
Over 300 city workers and others marched across the Brooklyn Bridge Monday protesting the city’s announcement that municipal employees without a COVID-19 vaccination would be fired by week’s end.
Gathering in front of FDNY headquarters in Brooklyn, protesters chanted, “No medical tyranny, no vaccine mandates” and “My body, my choice. The vaccine you will not force,” before marching across the Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall.

Prosecutors: Fatal Deputy Shooting of 88-Year-Old Justified
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Florida prosecutor’s office has concluded the fatal shooting of an 88-year-old man by a deputy was justified.
The State Attorney’s Office in Tampa, Florida, said Monday that the fatal shooting of Ronald Ehrich last December by a Hillsborough County deputy was justified because the deputy was in fear for her life or great bodily harm when she fired her weapon. The deputy also had no duty to retreat, the State Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
“Accordingly, there is no legal basis for criminal charges against the deputy,” said the statement.
The deputy’s name was withheld in the State Attorney’s Office statement but she had previously been identified as Deputy Anastacia Castillo. Video released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office last December showed the deputy repeatedly trying to de-escalate the situation.
She went to the home in Riverview, Florida, after a neighbor asked for a well-being check on Ehrich. The neighbor was concerned because she had not seen Ehrich for at least two days and had noticed his garage door was open.
In the video, the deputy repeatedly identified herself as she made her way through the home, saying “sheriff’s office” as she knocked on walls and doors. Once upstairs, she opened doors to bedrooms until Ehrich finally answered from behind a closed door…

Tennessee Representative Introduces New Bill to End Critical Race Theory From Workplaces
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Tennessee Rep. Bruce Griffey introduced a bill to get rid of Critical Race Theory (CRT) from workplaces across the state.

Toutle Lake Students, Community Members Protest Mask Mandate Monday
TOUTLE — More than 100 Toutle Lake School students and community members Monday lined Spirit Lake Memorial Highway with signs and flags protesting the state’s mask mandate.

US Defense Database DMED Tracked Exploding Number of Vaccine-Related Injuries
When US Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) held a hearing on vaccine safety in January this year, a number of DOD whistleblowers stepped forward with alarming data. They shared data from the Defense Medical Epidemiology Database (DMED) which tracks every illness of military members.
The purpose of gathering such data is expressly to spot adverse health trends that could affect combat readiness. It is therefore accurate, complete and designed for early detection.
Lawyer Thomas Renz reported on five years of data during the hearing which showed an alarming rise in medical problems related to Covid vaccines. The whistleblowers stepped forward because their superiors had ignored the problem. Renz plans to pursue the matter in a US federal court.

A group of mothers from a First Nation in northern Manitoba are calling for leniency after they were fined $5,000 each for leaving their community for essentials during a community-imposed lockdown.

In a now-deleted tweet, Canadian Anti-Hate Network (CAHN) chair Bernie Farber posted a photo of an anti-Semitic flyer he claimed “a friend” had found at the site of the Ottawa freedom protests.

Canadian Driver Charged in COVID Protest Hit-and-Run
A Canadian man has been charged with intentionally striking four men with a car during a protest against COVID-19 restrictions, authorities said.
David Alexander Zegarac, 42, allegedly drove a Jeep Patriot through a group of protesters, mowing down the four victims, before taking off Friday night in Winnipeg, CTV News reported.
Police said in a statement that they stopped the vehicle and arrested Zegarac “after a brief struggle.”

Ontario Liberals Demand Doug Ford Threaten to Seize Convoy’s Trucks
The Ontario Liberal Party is telling Premier Doug Ford to threaten to seize the Freedom Convoy protesters’ trucks if they do not leave Ottawa.

Ottawa police have threatened to arrest anyone providing the Freedom Convoy with gas and diesel cans after they initially blocked trucks with fuel tanks coming to the aid of the protesters.
Authorities announced that anyone providing “material support” to the demonstrators would be subject to arrest from midnight last night.
Asked whether “material support” included necessities like food and water, a police spokesperson told Fox News that the announcement “relates to hazardous materials that represent a public safety or fire hazard.”

A new study from Canada found that children have a harder time recognizing faces of those wearing COVID-19 masks than adults, raising fears about their ability to socialize and make friends.
The masks, which have become an essential part of the daily lives of millions of students in America for nearly two years, change the typical way children’s brains recognize faces, the York University study found.
According to the study, published on Monday in the journal Cognitive Research: Principles & Implications, children have a 20 percent impairment rate for recognizing masked faces. Adults, meanwhile, had a 15 percent impairment rate for identifying people with the face coverings.

Thousands of People Show Up to Support Huge Edmonton Anti Lockdown Truck Convoy
Dozens of tractors, one school bus, and 10 hay bales joined hundreds of trucks in a convoy near the Alberta legislature grounds on Saturday afternoon in a symphony of honks and freedom.
The Edmonton convoy drew truckers from across Alberta and was organized in support of the Ottawa Convoy for Freedom that has settled in for a second week in the nation’s capital. What started as a movement of truckers against vaccine mandates to cross the border has now grown into a nationwide movement to reject vaccine passports, forced masking and other lockdown limits on freedom.
The Edmonton convoy and protest, like the one in Ottawa, and the others in cities and towns across the country, was largely peaceful with police intervention only needed for a handful of jaywalkers with Canadian flags on hockey sticks.

Vehicles Damaged at Convoy Protest in Victoria, Police Seek Suspect
Several vehicles were broken into and damaged during a weekend protest against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and health restrictions in Victoria.
Witnesses told police on Saturday they saw a man damaging cars in the 481 Kingston St. parking lot next to the B.C. Legislature, where the “Island Trucker Convoy” held its demonstration.
About 2,500 people, including counter-protesters, gathered there on Saturday afternoon.
Damage to the vehicles includes paint scratches as well as ruined surfaces and tires. Police said in a Monday news release that items were stolen from several vehicles as well.

Video: Ottawa City Officials, Police Label Trucker Convoy as ‘Terrorist Insurrection’
City officials in Ottawa have claimed that the capital is “under siege” and that the trucker convoy protesting vaccine mandates constitutes a “nation-wide insurrection”, with one council woman even calling the movement “terrorism.”
As the mayor of Ottawa declared a state of emergency, Ottawa City Council member Diane Deans stated “We are on day eight of this occupation. Our city is under siege.”
She added, “What we’re seeing is bigger than just a City of Ottawa problem. This is a nationwide insurrection. This is madness. We need a concrete plan to put an end to this.”

An ‘Equity and Inclusion Officer’ at the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) has claimed that history is paved with “white-led violence almost always in the name of freedom.”
Teneile Warren made the statement on Friday over Twitter. It was made from behind a protected account but was shown to True North by an anonymous source.

Controversial Digital Licence Plan to Keep Aussie Kids ‘Safe’ From Misinformation

Labor has set aside $6 million in taxpayer funding to roll the eSmart Digital Licence program out nationally, along with an eSmart Media Literacy Lab program for children aged 12 to 15 to ‘help them engage with news online’.
The controversial program has been developed by the Allanah & Madeline Foundation. One of their stated goals includes maintaining ‘prevention programs that promote behaviour-change in schools and libraries across the country to teach respectful values and behaviours in young people on and offline’.

An illegal migrant from Africa was arrested following a brutal attack and robbery of an elderly woman who was with her young grandchild in France last week, according to reports.
The disturbing incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon in Longlaville, a commune in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle.

Hungary Blocks Entry of Nearly 600 Irregular Migrants Over Past 3 Days
Hungary’s security forces have prevented nearly 600 irregular migrants from entering the country in the last three days, police said on Monday.
In a statement, the police said as many as 589 migrants were turned away from the borders.
Some 1,295 migrants were blocked from entering the country on Jan. 24-30 and 1,872 others between Jan. 31 and Feb. 6, added the statement.
Also, at least 21 people were detained on suspicion of human smuggling over the last week.

Over 270 Migrants Agree to Leave Lithuania for 1K Euros
As many as 272 migrants who entered Lithuania without appropriate documents have agreed to return home after voluntarily receiving assistance of 1,000 euros. They will be able to take commercial flights out of Lithuania next week, reports BNS.
The vast majority of returnees are Iraqi citizens. Several people will also fly to Russia and India.
The assistance of 1,000 euros is paid to migrants at the airport just before their departure.

Professor behind reported report on immigrants and rape gets more research reviewed by prosecutors

About a year ago, a study was published by Lund researcher Kristina Sundquist, who studied, among other things, the background of rapists. The study showed that almost 60 percent of all convicted rapists in Sweden have a foreign background. Many of these were also convicted of violent crimes in the past. Sundquist was soon reported to the Board of Appeal for Ethical Review (ÖNEP).
when the prosecutor closed the case, ÖNEP requested that the case be reconsidered.
Following ÖNEP’s request, Chief Prosecutor Eva-Marie Persson chose to initiate a preliminary investigation – which is still ongoing. Another report directed at Kristina Sundquist has been made and ÖNEP has reviewed about 40 studies that she has completed. The board believes that there is no valid permit for seven different studies that have now been reported to the prosecutor, reports Sydsvenskan. One of the studies is about ADHD in children and young people with an immigrant background.

One reason for investigating the researcher’s studies is that according to the GDPR, you are not allowed to engage in and make compilations, says Jörgen Svidén, who is head of the secretariat at ÖNEP. It’s all about research ethics.
– In these seven cases, it is clear that we would report them. If you are to apply for an ethics review permit, you must have specified research. Here she has received so much permission for different kinds of research that you can ask yourself what kind of research it is, it is very broad, he says.
“Feels pretty Kafka-like”
Kristina Sundquist herself believes that an incorrect assessment has been made of her research work.
– This has been going on for almost a year. I think the trial will get me right, but this feels pretty Kafka-like. I often talk to my colleagues and they say they work the same way I do. When working with registers, it is very difficult to accurately describe all the issues you intend to investigate, but you describe them in general terms.

Journalist receives police protection after documentary about Islamism

A journalist who presented a documentary on Islamism in France has been placed under police protection after receiving death threats. A lawyer who participates in the program has also received police protection.
Ophélie Meunier, presenting on January 23 the documentary “Forbidden Zone” on the spread of Islamism in France. Immediately after the program was broadcast, death threats began to flow in against her from the country’s Muslim fundamentalists. It reports several media.
Meunier and another person appearing in the documentary, a lawyer named Amine Elbahi, have been placed under police protection after receiving serious death threats due to the film. A picture posted on social media shows how Elbahi when he is outdoors is protected by two plainclothes police officers who are constantly in front and behind him.
Filmed with a hidden camera
The documentary, which was partly filmed with a hidden camera, was broadcast on the channel M6 France and reveals the growing influence that radical Islam has in many ways had on French society.
– What I said has irritated people. Given the threats I receive, I must have had my sights set correctly, Elbahi states in a comment to the media about his situation.
At the same time, the lawyer is clear that he does not intend to be silenced by aggressive Islamists who do not like to be scrutinized.
The director is critical of the left-wing media’s silence
The film’s director, Michaëlle Gagnet, has criticized the silence of the majority of the French media – especially those with a left-leaning profile. She notes that conservative and pro-national media have been significantly better at paying attention to the threats and giving the threatened their support.
– It is important that we can distance ourselves from a dangerous ideology without being accused of ‘Islamophobia’, Gagnet states.
Reactions from a political point of view
From a political point of view, compared to the media, slightly more have come to the rescue of those threatened with death. Presidential candidate Eric Zemmour attributes the documentary’s aftermath to values such as those in Afghanistan, where a majority of the people now actively or passively support the Taliban regime.
“Customs and practices from totalitarian Afghanistan take root here, with the good memory of the authorities,” Zemmour wrote in an opinion piece in which he addresses the current documentary and the consequences it has had for several of its participants.
The French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, is another senior politician who has expressed his support for the people who received death threats after the documentary.
– The journalists and other people who testified in this report enjoy our support and their message has our ear.
Free journalism and freedom of opinion part of France
The Interior Minister also commented on the importance of free journalism and freedom of opinion in France and condemned all forces that try to intimidate journalists and other voices into silence.
In other contexts, Darmanin has recently profiled himself in the fight against radical Islam in France. Among other things, he is one of the initiators of the closure of several mosques linked to violent jihad and Muslim terrorism and marked against the hatred towards other religious beliefs, Jews and Christians, which is expressed from a Muslim point of view.
The French government has also called on a number of Muslim organizations in the country to officially, by signing a document, distance themselves from political Islam and the influence of radical Muslim movements outside France’s borders.
France is one of the European countries hardest hit by Muslim terror, with a large number of bloody assassinations and murders carried out in the name of Allah and the Prophet. Sweden has been more spared but still got its fair share.
Swedish government more concerned about “right-wing extremism”
There is also more and more talk of the “shadow caliphate” – a fear and indifference among the media, politicians, authorities, museums, theaters, exhibitors, artists and the general public to clash with radical Muslim forces that have now established themselves in the country.
When the artist Lars Vilks, who was under constant threat of death and police protection, recently died in an explosive car crash, no mainstream media dared to show pictures of the patrol dogs Vilks is most famous for and who turned his life into a hunted animal in Sweden.
At the same time, the Social Democratic government claims that the greatest threat to democracy and freedom in Sweden and Europe comes from “right-wing extremists”. It is unclear how Minister of Justice Morgan Johansson (S), who has been vocal with that view, came to the conclusion.
