Police: Fatal Ne Portland Shooting Sparked by Confrontation Between Armed Homeowner, Protesters

PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) — One person was killed and five others were wounded in a shooting in northeast Portland Saturday night, sparked by a confrontation between an armed homeowner and armed protesters — about 90 minutes after another person died in a southwest Portland officer-involved shooting, police said.

North Precinct officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. to a shooting call near the intersection of Northeast 55th Avenue and Hassalo Street, near Normandale Park in the Rose City Park neighborhood, officers said.

Officers arrived to find a female victim who was deceased. Five other shooting victims, two men and three women, were taken to area hospitals; police said late Saturday night their status was unknown.

Portland police issued this update Sunday afternoon:

“A preliminary investigation into the February 19, 2022 shooting near the intersection of Northeast 55th Avenue and Northeast Hassalo Street indicates this incident started with a confrontation between an armed homeowner and armed protesters.

“The scene was extremely chaotic, and a number of witnesses were uncooperative with responding officers. Most people on scene left without talking to police.

“Detectives believe a large number of people either witnessed what happened, or recorded the incident as it unfolded. This is a very complicated incident, and investigators are trying to put this puzzle together without having all the pieces. Detectives ask that anyone with information or video please contact Detective Scott Broughton at Scott.Broughton@portlandoregon.gov (503) 823-3774 or Detective Rico Beniga at Rico.Beniga@portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-0457. “Suisse Secrets”: Massive Leak of Credit Suisse Bank Records Exposes $100 Billion Held by 18,000 Spies, Strongmen and Criminals

Credit Suisse has had an extremely difficult year already, but on Sunday, dozens of respected newspapers and other media organizations from around the globe dealt Switzerland’s second-largest bank by assets a major blow: releasing reporting on leaked banking records involving 18,000 clients considered “sensitive” for their ties to corrupt government officials, Middle Eastern autocrats or foreign spymasters.

Polish Author Canceled From Fantasy Convention for Having ‘Right-Wing Views’

Renowned Polish fantasy author Andrzej Pilipiuk was removed from a list of guests invited to participate in the Avangarda Association fantasy convention for the crime of holding conservative values, it has emerged.

He was initially invited by the association itself to speak at the virtual event, but the management canceled his invite and de-platformed the writer because “members and the management of the Avangarda Association did not appreciate the presence of writers with right-wing views,” a reason confirmed by the organization’s board members.

The organization released a statement about the exclusion of right-wing authors, claiming that “the writers had been invited by mistake for which improper communication among the convention organizers’ team was responsible.”

Spain: Vox Now Second in National Poll, Ahead of Center-Right People’s Party for the First Time

The anti-immigration, right-wing populist Vox party has overtaken the center-right People’s Party (PP) in a national poll for the first time as Santiago Abascal’s party continues to enjoy its rapid rise to prominence.

A recent survey conducted for Spanish digital newspaper, Okdiario, showed that electoral support for Vox had increased to 22.1 percent, up by 5.1 percent on similar polling undertaken on Jan. 5. In contrast, the PP had lost 6.1 percent of its vote and currently sits at 21.7 percent.

It marks the first time in a national poll that the Vox party has proven more popular than the PP, and places Abascal’s party behind Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s socialists (PSOE) by just 3.3 percent.

UK: Prominent Lockdown Advocate Admits He Got it Wrong

A prominent lockdown advocate who advised the UK government admits in a new book he got it wrong and that there was never any proper consideration of the devastation caused by lockdowns.

Well, we told you so.

Professor Mark Woolhouse is a member of SPI-M, the modelling group on SAGE, the group that advises the British government on lockdown measures.

SAGE has become notorious for consistently predicting doomsday COVID scenarios that never even come close to passing, such as last year’s warning that Omicron could cause 6,000 deaths a day in the UK without harsher restrictions.

Archive Find Confirms NATO’s Promise of Never Expanding Eastward

Representatives of the Russian government have repeatedly asked the US for security guarantees as NATO continues its expansion towards Russia. Meanwhile, Washington claims the situation on the Ukrainian border with Russia is very threatening, ignoring the promises it made.

New security treaties are certainly needed to prevent another NATO adventure like the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999. According to Moscow, the latest US response was not appropriate as it did not cover the main demands.

In March 1991, the US had promised not to expand NATO eastward. “We have made it clear that we will not expand NATO beyond the Elbe,” German diplomat Jürgen Chrobog said at a meeting of the United States, Britain, France and Germany. This protocol meeting record confirms Russia’s view of limited eastward enlargement of the alliance.

The note from the British National Archives, which has only just surfaced, supports the Russian claim that the West violated promises made in 1990 with NATO’s eastward expansion. This was reported by German weekly Spiegel.

Ukraine Crisis: Putin Sends Russian Tanks, Hardware Into Donetsk — Report

Columns of military vehicles including tanks were seen in the early hours of Tuesday on the outskirts of Donetsk, the capital of one of the breakaway east Ukraine regions, after Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the regions as independent states.

The Reuters reporter saw about five tanks in a column on the edge of the city and two more in another part of town.

No insignia were visible, but the appearance of the tanks came hours after Putin signed friendship treaties with the two separatist regions and ordered Russian troops to deploy on what Moscow called a peacekeeping operation.

Reuters reporters in Donetsk had not seen tanks on the streets in previous days.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine as independent on Monday and ordered the Russian army to launch what Moscow called a peacekeeping operation into the area, upping the ante in a crisis the West fears could unleash a major war.

NIH Sent the Intercept 292 Fully Redacted Pages Related to Virus Research in Wuhan

WITH THE GLOBAL death toll from Covid-19 approaching 6 million, the need to understand the origins of the pandemic is both pressing and grave. But the National Institutes of Health continues to withhold critical documents that could shed light on this question. This week, in response to ongoing litigation over public records related to coronavirus research funded by the federal agency, the NIH sent The Intercept 292 fully redacted pages rather than substantive material that could help us understand how the virus first came to infect humans.

At this point, no one can say for sure how SARS-CoV-2 set off the pandemic. It may have emerged naturally, jumping from a host animal to people, as many other deadly pathogens have. Or the coronavirus could have first spread to humans as the result of a research mishap — through bat capture and collection, risky experiments, or a host of other more mundane lab activities. U.S. intelligence agencies have assessed both theories as possible. But knowing exactly what led to the worst disease outbreak in recent history requires more information.

[Comment: Why is a health agency redacting anything?]

The Neoliberal War on Dissent in the West

by Glenn Greenwald

But when these weapons are wielded by Western governments, the precise opposite framework is imposed: describing them as despotic is no longer obligatory but virtually prohibited. That tyranny exists only in Western adversaries but never in the West itself is treated as a permanent axiom of international affairs, as if Western democracies are divinely shielded from the temptations of genuine repression. Indeed, to suggest that a Western democracy has descended to the same level of authoritarian repression as the West’s official enemies is to assert a proposition deemed intrinsically absurd or even vaguely treasonous.

  1. The Wolff of Wall Street SPEZIAL:
    Deep Staat & Digital-Finanzieller…

    https://tube4.apolut.net/w/3t3fNLzDkLwhCU6ajfSTaa

It is the end of December 2021 and we are in an economic and social transition period of historic proportions. For almost two years now, almost all countries in the world – regardless of whether they are dictatorships or parliamentary democracies – have largely been pursuing one and the same agenda.
This global alignment shows that there is a force that has more power than any of the 200 or so governments currently on the planet. This force has a name: it is the digital-financial complex. At its top are the five largest IT groups in the world on the digital side: Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft and Meta, formerly Facebook, and on the financial side the largest asset managers, BlackRock and Vanguard.
But how exactly did this complex become so powerful and how does it manage to assert its interests around the globe at the same time?
Let’s start with the first question. For centuries, power rested on a single pedestal, money. Whoever had money had power and whoever had a lot of money had a lot of power.
That still applies, but no longer exclusively. Since the use of computers and the triumph of the Internet as part of the 3rd Industrial Revolution, there has been a second base of power, namely data. Those who have data have power and those who have large amounts of data have a lot of power.
However, those who, like the IT companies, organize the data streams of entire industries and also those of governments in the context of digitization, gain an additional insight into their innermost being – and can thus make them dependent and in this way also make them docile.
It is precisely this process that has led to the fact that the large IT companies are today far above all other companies and above the governments of the world. Whether armaments, food, pharmaceuticals, energy or media – all these industries and all state institutions, including the secret services, are now dependent on the drip of the digital corporations, which have also built up their own global media power with the social networks.
The financial industry, on the other hand, which is constantly on the lookout for new investment opportunities, has promoted this process from the start and is now involved in all leading IT groups through its most powerful representatives – the large wealth management companies. Since she is also dependent on them at the same time, both have merged into a kind of community of interests.
BlackRock and Microsoft provide a particularly vivid example of this: BlackRock uploaded its data analysis system Aladdin, by far the most important database in global finance, to Microsoft’s Azur cloud in April 2020, so it is now dependent on Microsoft for data. Microsoft, in turn, is a public company and dependent on its largest shareholders, who are none other than Vanguard and BlackRock, with Vanguard also being BlackRock’s largest shareholder.
So much for the emergence of the new world power. But how exactly does the digital-financial complex assert its interests? Which mechanisms and which channels does it use?
The most important strategic role is played by the central banks, which officially gave up their independence at the latest in the global financial crisis of 2007/08. Since then, Blackrock has been advising the two largest central banks in the world, the European Central Bank ECB and the American Federal Reserve. So Blackrock has a crucial say when it comes to distributing the huge sums of newly created money in the financial sector.
Incidentally, from the point of view of the central banks, there is no other way. BlackRock, together with its main shareholder Vanguard, manages almost 17 trillion dollars, which roughly corresponds to the sum of the balance sheets of the ECB and the Fed, also has a much larger data pool with Aladdin than all central banks in the world and could easily sabotage any decision not made in its own interest .
How well the use of the central banks works was already shown in Greece in 2015: When Syriza, a political force that was unacceptable for the digital-financial complex, came to power, the ECB cut off the country from all money flows until the Syriza -Leadership fell and carried out exactly the opposite of what they had promised the people on the campaign trail.
Incidentally, the interaction between the central banks is orchestrated by the Bank for International Settlements BIS in Basel, Switzerland, which has a total of 63 central banks among its members.
    O—
In addition to central banks, the digital-financial complex, with its money and data control, has also subdued another set of extremely influential institutions. These include universities, think tanks, NGOs, numerous sub-organizations of the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund IMF – and above all numerous extremely powerful foundations.
How effectively this network works is particularly evident in the current health crisis. Just a few examples: The medical faculty at Johns Hopkins University, which supplies authorities around the world with medical data, has been called the Bloomberg School of Medicine since 2014 because IT billionaire Michael Bloomberg has given it more than 3.5 to this day has donated billions of dollars. Harvard University’s medical school is named TH Chan School of Medicine in honor of a Hong Kong billionaire donor.
The World Health Organization (WHO), established and financed by several countries after the Second World War, now receives more than 80 percent of its money from donors. The largest donor is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, founded by IT billionaire Bill Gates, which is the richest foundation in the world with assets of almost 50 billion dollars.
Gates’ Foundation has been highly active in advancing the interests of its founder for two decades. She launched the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization GAVI in 2000, co-founded and co-financed the Better Than Cash Alliance to eliminate cash worldwide in 2012, and donates millions to media outlets each year to ensure favorable coverage.
By far the most politically important foundation is the Swiss-based World Economic Forum, headed by German Professor Klaus Schwab. The WEF has not only brought together and networked the rich and powerful of the world every year for half a century, it has also been training the international political and corporate elite since the early 1990s.
On the political side, these include Angela Merkel, Nicolas Sarkozy, Tony Blair, Emmanuel Macron, Annalena Baerbock and Cem Özdemir, and on the corporate side, among others, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Steve Balmer and Jack Ma.
So it’s no wonder that the man who founded the WEF and brought all these people together even wrote the screenplay for the current world crisis with his work “Covid-19 – The Great Upheaval”.
All this information is just a few pieces of the jigsaw puzzle, but it shows how the digital-financial complex was able to either hijack an increasingly dense spider web of organizations over the past 4 decades or to develop it itself and thus exert influence through a wide variety of channels and the To move things globally in the direction he wants.
The concept of the deep state, by which one understands the entirety of powerful, non-democratically legitimate organizations that pull the strings in the background within a country, is a thing of the past. The digital-financial complex has given us a new global power that has long since incorporated the deep state of every nation on earth and that now wields far more influence than any single deep state ever could.
And yet the digital-financial complex is faced with an unsolvable problem in our time: its rise is accompanied by a process of concentration of money and power in fewer and fewer hands, which forces it to act in an increasingly authoritarian and dictatorial manner and which therefore – how we have just experienced in the past 2 years – with every further step inevitably leads to ever sharper contradiction to the mass of the population.
And that’s exactly what will ultimately be his undoing.
