Pandemic-Driven Closures See Business Bankruptcies at 35-Year High

Businesses experienced a sharp increase in bankruptcies in the last quarter of 2021 according to the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP).

Albuquerque Stabbings: 11 Knifed in Attacks by Suspect on BMX Bike, Police Say

Police in Albuquerque arrested a man suspected of stabbing 11 people on Sunday in a string of attacks believed to have been carried out across the city on a BMX-style bike, authorities said.

In a statement posted to Twitter Sunday, The Albuquerque Police Department said officers were investigating “several stabbing incidents”.

It said officers had identified at least seven possible scenes stretching from the city’s downtown to central areas, with at least one site in the Wyoming and Central streets.

“The lone suspect is in custody,” the department said, with the suspect yet to be identified.

During a press conference, police said officers had first responded to a report of a stabbing downtown at around 11 a.m. local time (12 p.m. ET) Sunday, according to local NBC affiliate KOB.

Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said it had not yet been confirmed that the first scene was connected to the string of attacks, but police believe it was.

Shortly after that incident, Gallegos said police responded to a succession of other stabbing reports across the city, with the same man believed to be behind the attacks.

Gallegos said the stabbings appeared to have been carried out at random.

He said the suspect was reported to be riding a BMX-style bike and to have carried out the attacks with a large knife…

Anti-CRT Bills Aim to Outlaw Discrimination, Not Free Speech, Advocates Say

Republican legislators in states across the country have introduced legislation to combat the use of critical race theory (CRT) in public schools, and while critics claim the bills attack free speech, advocates frame the issue as a matter of preventing discrimination on the basis of race and upholding federal civil-rights law.

“This is very clearly about rooting out discrimination and racism for everyone. This is not a Republican issue. This is not a Democrat issue,” Arizona State Rep. Jake Hoffman, R-Gilbert, the sponsor of three bills on the issue, told Fox News Digital. “This furthers the work of our civil rights leaders who fought so hard to get us to where we are today.”

Even Democrats Want Hillary Investigated Over Russiagate

According to a new poll, a sizable majority of Americans want to see Hillary Clinton investigated over her role in the Russiagate scandal—including a large number of Democrats.

According to the poll, which was conducted by TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics in New Jersey, nearly three out of four Americans want to see Hillary Clinton investigated for her connection to the efforts to frame Trump for ties to Russia. That number includes 66 percent of Democrats.

The poll was conducted last month, before the latest revelations from a motion filed Friday by Special Counsel John Durham alleging that Hillary’s 2016 presidential campaign paid a technology firm to “infiltrate’’ servers at Trump Tower (and later the White House) to link Trump to Russia.

Lightfoot: Too Soon to Say When Chicago Will Lift Mask Mandate

The indoor mask mandate in Illinois will be lifted in two weeks, but Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot says it’s too soon to say whether Chicago will follow suit.

“February 28 is obviously the date that the state set, that’s not the date that the city set,” said Lightfoot. “We’re still though at 500 cases a day — not where we want to be. We’re still seeing too many people dying every day from COVID. So, I think we’re making great progress. Dr. Arwady and I will have more to say on that later this week, but I don’t want to put an artificial date on when this is gonna happen when we still see some danger signs in the data.”

Protests Ease as Oakdale Joint Unified Tells Unmasked 7th-12th Graders to Stay Home

Protests at Oakdale schools eased Monday following the district’s announcement that unmasked secondary students would be barred from campus buildings and referred to independent study.

Seventy-three students in Oakdale Joint Unified School District missed school Monday in connection with protests against masks, according to Superintendent Dave Kline. Over 340 students refused to wear masks last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 40 to 50 of those students protested in front of the district office, Kline said.

Parents protested at schools and the district office last week, too. The superintendent reported no protests in front of schools or the district office on Monday.

Sarah Palin’s Defamation Case Against New York Times Tossed for Failing to Prove Paper Acted With Malice

NEW YORK — A U.S. judge on Monday said he will throw out Sarah Palin’s defamation lawsuit against the New York Times after concluding that the newspaper did not in an editorial maliciously link the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican U.S. vice presidential candidate to a mass murder.

In an abrupt twist in a trial seen as a test of longstanding protections for American media, U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan said Palin’s lawsuit must be dismissed because she failed to show the Times acted with “actual malice,” the established standard in such cases.

The judge, however, allowed jurors to continue their deliberations in the case despite his intention to dismiss it and did not inform them of his plans. Rakoff said he plans to enter a formal dismissal only after jurors reach their own verdict.

“If you see anything in the media about this case, just turn away,” the judge told jurors before dismissing them for the day.

Video: Biden Declares “Personal Freedom” Comes Second to COVID Mandates

“If your exercising personal freedom puts someone else in jeopardy, their health in jeopardy, I don’t consider that freedom,” Biden sarcastically stated in response, before telling people who don’t want to continue wearing masks or getting jabs to “think of the children.”

‘Proof of Failure’: Opposition Parties React to Trudeau’s Call for Emergencies Act

OTTAWA — Federal opposition parties say Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to invoke the Emergencies Act is a “proof of failure” in dealing with convoy blockades across the country.

Trudeau’s proposal was also quickly dismissed by the premiers of Quebec, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba. It received support from Ontario, where the blockades paralyzed a major U.S.-Canada bridge in Windsor and part of the downtown core around Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

As a leader of a minority government, Trudeau needs the support of one the opposition parties to have the Act passed by Parliament within seven days.

Monday morning, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said he was ready to support Trudeau when he invoked the Emergencies Act, but that the fact the Prime Minister needed to resort to it was an indictment of his “inaction” through the crisis rocking parts of Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and B.C.

Trudeau Invokes the Emergencies Act to Clear Protesters, Border Blockades

OTTAWA — For the first time since its creation, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is invoking the Emergencies Act, giving the government far reaching powers, allowing the government to freeze financial accounts, press tow truck operators into service and end blockades.

Trudeau said the protests are causing havoc to the lives of people in Ottawa and doing serious economic damage across the country.

“Here in our capital city, families, small businesses have been enduring illegal obstruction of their neighborhoods, occupying the streets, harassing people and breaking the law. This is not a peaceful protest,” Trudeau said.

The Emergencies Act was created in 1988 as the modern-day replacement to the War Measures Act. It allows the federal government to force companies to essential services, which in this case could mean tow-truck drivers who have been reluctant to get involved with the Ottawa protests.

The act can limit public protests especially ones that blockade roads. The act also allows for the military to be used as police, but Trudeau stressed the military will not be called in and the act’s use will be limited.

Trudeau Plans to Invoke Emergencies Act in Response to Protests: Sources

Act grants cabinet ability to take ‘special temporary measures that may not be appropriate in normal times’

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has told his caucus he will invoke the never-before-used Emergencies Act to give the federal government extra powers to handle anti-vaccine mandate protests across the country, sources say.

Those sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly, said the prime minister informed the premiers of his decision this morning.

The Emergencies Act, which replaced the War Measures Act in the 1980s, defines a national emergency as a temporary “urgent and critical situation” that “seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it.”

It gives special powers to the prime minister to respond to emergency scenarios affecting public welfare (natural disasters, disease outbreaks), public order (civil unrest), international emergencies or war emergencies…

Two-Thirds of Canadians Ready to Drop COVID-19 Restrictions

Two-thirds of Canadians believe it’s time to drop COVID-19 restrictions and begin living with the virus, according to a new poll.

The survey, conducted by Maru Public Opinion for Postmedia, revealed that 64 per cent of respondents believe that unless hospitals and intensive care units are affected by a sudden surge of COVID-19 patients that compromises the care of other people, governments should lift pandemic restrictions.

Respondents living in Quebec (71 per cent), Alberta (65 per cent) and Ontario (65 per cent) were found to be the most likely to hold this view. Those who are least likely reside in British Columbia (48 per cent), Manitoba and Saskatchewan (41 per cent), and Atlantic Canada (39 per cent).

Video: Canadian Media Still Pushing Crackpot Theory That Truckers Are Russian Agents

As the Canadian freedom convoy rolls on and continues to influence other protesters around the globe, Canadian media continues to push outright disinformation by suggesting that the Russian government is behind the movement.

When the convoy first came to prominence at the end of January, state broadcaster the Canadian Broadcasting Company began spreading completely unfounded claims that “Russian actors” were present among the Canadian truckers holding up major cities including Ottawa and Toronto, as well as border crossings.

The tenuous reasoning behind the theory is that Canada has expressed support for Ukraine during the country’s ongoing tensions with Russia.

Watch: Freedom Convoy Organizer Speaks to a Huge Crowd: ‘This is an Example for the World’

Benjamin Dichter, one of the founding organizers of the Freedom Convoy, braved the cold, as did his audience, to speak on Sunday as part of the convoy’s continued protests in Ottawa.

Dichter had just had surgery on Friday, and apologized if he “seemed low energy” because of this, but he spoke at length about important issues nonetheless, and was received by an enthused multitude.

‘Where’s Trudo’ Comic Brutally Mocks Justin Trudeau for Hiding During Freedom Convoy Protests

A cartoon titled “Where’s Trudo?” is brutally mocking Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for hiding while “Freedom Convoy” truckers protested coronavirus lockdowns and masking mandates in Ottawa.

The parody of Trudeau’s authoritarian Canada was created in the “Where’s Waldo” style by artist Bob Moran and features in comic form many of the outrageously, left-wing people and events that are occurring in Canada even as the Freedom Convoy is desperately trying to put a halt to some of it.

At Least 7 Killed in Explosion and Fire in Southern France

PARIS (AP) — At least seven people, including two children, have been killed in an explosion and subsequent fire that occurred in apartment buildings in southern France on Monday.

Officials said a search is ongoing for at least two people who are missing.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin went to the site in the town of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque and said about 30 people were wounded or suffered psychological trauma in the explosion that occurred around 2 a.m.

Local radio France Bleu Roussillon reported that the explosion occurred on the ground floor of a two-story building, which was a grocery-sandwich bar. The fire then spread to neighboring buildings.

Perpignan prosecutor Jean-David Cavaillé said it’s too early to know what caused the explosion but he mentioned the possibility that gas cylinders may have been present in the shop. An investigation is underway…

Dutch Poised to Lift Most Remaining Coronavirus Restrictions

The government is almost certain to announce it is suspending all the coronavirus rules from February 25, apart from the basic hygiene regulations, broadcaster NOS said on Monday evening.

Cabinet sources have told the broadcaster that ministers are prepared to go further than the recommendations made by the Outbreak Management Team which were sent to parliament by health minister Ernst Kuipers on Monday evening.

The OMT is recommending that the use of face masks be dropped as well as social distancing. Home working will no longer be the standard policy either but should be phased out in stages.

But the government experts are keen to see the use of the coronavirus pass continue — something that the cabinet is now planning to drop on February 25, if the NOS report is accurate…

EU: MEP Wants Clarity on Graphene in COVID Vaccines

Italian MEP Sergio Berlato wants clarity on graphene in the Covid vaccines. He referred to a recent study by Dr. Ricardo Delgado Martin and Dr. Pablo Campra, who claimed to have found graphene oxide in the Covid vaccines by using Micro-Raman spectroscopy.

Berlato further pointed out that in 2018 a team of researchers demonstrated that graphene could convert electrical signals into ultra-short terahertz signals with trillions of cycles per second. The silicon-based electronic components we use today achieve clock speeds of x-gigahertz, where 1 GHz corresponds to 1000 million cycles per second.

The scientists have shown that graphene could convert signals with these frequencies into signals with frequencies a thousand times higher than signals generated with silicon, according to Berlato.

“Graphene is therefore able to absorb radiation, which means it is highly toxic and harmful to human health when this material is included in a vaccine,” the MP noted.

Germany Reveals End Date for Most COVID Restrictions

German officials are set to end the majority of remaining government Covid restrictions in March, amid decreasing coronavirus infections, according to a draft plan reported by news agency AFP on Monday.

“Broad restrictions of social, cultural, and economic life should be gradually lifted by the start of spring on March 20, 2022,” the draft document reportedly suggests. It is set to be formally approved by federal and state leaders on Wednesday.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz indicated on Friday that Covid restrictions would begin to be relaxed when the government and federal states meet on February 16, as “the peak of the wave is in sight.” However, at that time he didn’t reveal what date specifically that that might happen.

German Press Criticized for Falsely Claiming Viktor Orban Said Hungry Could Leave the EU

The German news agency DPA has been accused by Hungarian government officials of misrepresenting the remarks of Prime Minister Viktor Orban during his state of the nation address on Saturday.

Hungary’s State Secretary for International Communication Zoltan Kovacs took to social media on Sunday to slam the German media outlet for “fake news.”

Hungary’s Conservative Fidesz Has Comfortable Lead Ahead of Elections

The conservative Fidesz-KDNP party alliance enjoys a comfortable lead over Hungary’s opposition parties with just seven weeks until the country’s general election, the latest polling has revealed.

According to a Real-PR 93 survey, 54 percent would vote for the currently ruling parties compared to 41 percent for the joint six-party opposition.

“The balance of power between the ruling parties and the left-wing coalition has been stable for months, with no significant changes,” the polling agency commented. “Forty-nine days before the parliamentary elections, the Fidesz-KDNP can count on the support of the majority of the party voters who are voting, which is currently just as much as 54 percent at the time of our survey last December.”

‘Turk Marries Cousin’ — Dispute Erupts Over German High School Philosophy Task

A philosophy teacher at the high school in Alleestraße, Siegburg in North Rhine-Westphalia, was under the impression that children were sent to school to acquire knowledge that would prepare them for the future.

The philosophy instructor gave his students the following task:

“A Turkish father in Germany married his daughter to his brother’s son without her consent in order to secure a residence permit for Germany and thus a livelihood for him. Discuss the situation with your table neighbor. What conflicts do you see in it?”

The genetic structure of present-day Anatolia was shaped by historical and modern-day migrations, high levels of admixture, and notably inbreeding. The latter custom is currently being imported into Germany. A study of 55 175 marriages in Turkey, conducted from 1970 to 1987, showed an overall rate of consanguineous marriage of 21,21 percent (mostly first-cousin liaisons).

The discussion at hand in the classroom continued to question so-called “universal” values. “An ethics for all cultures? — Opening up the problem in the field of tension between cultural relativism and universalism.”

But the Dortmund-based “Federation of Turkish Parents’ Associations in North Rhine-Westphalia” (FÖTEV) got wind of the matter. Its stance on the topic did not differ much from the Marxist “Education and Science Union” or for that matter the current German Ministry of Education.

In an open letter to the NRW Ministry of Education, the FÖTEV based in Dortmund was “stunned”. The task “uses the vocabulary of right-wing populists” they complained.

YouTube Suspends Commentator Alex Belfield for Two Weeks

YouTube has suspended former BBC radio host, and now independent commentator, Alex Belfield for two weeks. The suspension came at a similar time as an article in the UK Times that highlighted YouTubers it believes are profiting from “misinformation.”

Belfield, a commentator in the UK, also received two strikes on his channel and a further strike within the next 90 days would result in a permanent ban from the Big Tech giant.

The article in the Times alleged that adverts from major corporations such as Disney and Vodafone were showing up against “disturbing” content.

The Times’s problem with the independent commenter was a video about Labour party leader Sir Keir Starmer called “Boris blames Keir for letting off evil BBC Saville.”

Austria to Organise Conference on Quicker Repatriation of Migrants

The Austrian government will organise a conference hosting 23 countries to speed up the repatriation of illegal migrants, ensure stricter controls at the EU’s external border and to assist the Balkan countries in operationalising repatriations.

The conference will take place in Vienna from 21 to 22 February. Twenty-three countries have been invited, with 10 of them — including France and Germany — already confirming their participation.

While there are different approaches across the EU on how to deal with illegal migrants, “the similarities are greater than the differences,” Austrian interior minister Gerhard Karner told APA. This would hold especially true for the ongoing problem of human trafficking, he added.

Woman in Vienna Charged With ‘Bodily Harm’ After Fighting Off Migrant Rapist

A woman in Vienna was charged with inflicting bodily harm after stabbing a Syrian migrant, despite the fact that the migrant was trying to rape her.

The woman was attacked shortly before midnight on Tuesday last week as she entered her apartment building on Schönbrunner Strasse in the district of Meidling.

Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung reports that the attacker grabbed the victim’s private parts and pushed her to the ground.

“But then the rape attempt took a dramatic turn: the woman, with presence of mind, managed to pull a knife out of her purse,” reports Remix News. “She stabbed her attacker several times with it until he let go of his victim, grabbed her purse and ran away badly injured. The perpetrator was discovered by the police a short time later with cuts and stab wounds at a nearby subway station and taken to a hospital.”

After he was treated for his injuries the man, a 24-year-old Syrian asylum seeker, was found to be in possession of marijuana and was arrested.

Vienna police delayed making the case public by three days and only revealed details after media outlets started asking questions, prompting accusations by some that authorities had tried to bury the incident.

The public prosecutor’s office subsequently charged the woman with bodily harm despite the fact that she was trying to defend herself from being violently raped.

Sweden: Teacher Fired for Refusing to Refer to Trans Child With Gender-Neutral Pronoun

A Swedish teacher has been fired for refusing to refer to a non-binary student named “Saga” with a gender-neutral pronoun in a case that is attracting widespread attention in Sweden.

The young transgender person, along with his parents, had been asking the teacher for eight months to refer to him using “hen,” which is a new Swedish pronoun which is neither masculine nor feminine, and which was only accepted in the Swedish school dictionary in 2015.

The pronoun “Hen” is not widely used in Sweden, but Saga, which is not the student’s real name but how the Swedish press is referring, to him, wanted the teacher to use it, arguing that it helped him deal with psychological issues arising from being unsure about his gender identity.

  1. This unbelievable!!, do that women is charged and this filthy reapist is free ??!!, what kind of world We are living!, I still saying and saying loud women protect your selfs ..!

  2. > Banks are authorized to shut down the accounts of convoy participants
    > even people who express support on social media

convoy participation is like terrorism these day, better know in advance. Anyway nothing that was not foreseeable after all that happened lastly. Unfortunately no “insurrection” or “revolution” can ever work this way: only with an organized structure with defined leaders and armed militia it is possible to do politics in “liberal” “democracies” these days… any other attempt is going to be a total failure.

    • There it is! The first man to point out the bloody obvious, the rest of the people actually think they can do this peacefully and without bloodshed and actually vote this insanity out. You can’t! You are going to have to do some very unspeakable thinks to get the job done.

  3. Of course I agree with you ‘Save Europe’, as no doubt thousands of women and men will also. A woman defends herself from being sexually accosted, and after the event is charged with causing bodily harm to her attacker. Utterly incomprehensible, but as is often claimed the Law is an Ass- this piece of dog….p…. should be castrated and then sent back to his country of origin. If he follows the teachings of Islam, his countrymen will find a way to deal with him. We should all hope and trust that the poor woman has those charges wiped off her details and allowed to get on with her life as best she can.

  4. UK: 6-Year-Old Boy Labeled ‘Transphobic’ By School for Being Confused by ‘Gender Fluid’ Student- what on earth is going on? How could a six year old child know anything about transgender or transphobic, this situation is quite evil in its intent and that school obviously needs help, not the 6 yr old child. Compliance with such an issue is being used by twisted authorities. I know what I would do if I was a parent.

  5. Just incomprehensible- if this boy called Saga has a male organ then he is a male-simple as that-surely there should be no more argument.

  6. A thought on the Canadian situation.

Here in the UK, people are rightly outraged when “Climate Change” protestors block streets in London, or motorways, putting people’s lives at risk by delayng ambulances; or by blockading access to media companies which publish views conflicting with their own.

So while I support the Canadian truckers’ objections to vaccine mandates, and their right to protest peacefully, I’m not convinced that they have the right to prevent the movement of essential goods, and cause major disruption to citizens’ lives over a prolonged period. If anyone disagrees, please do so.

    • I disagree, to this extent :

There are two facets to the Canadian situation : the reality of it … and what the media reports (which is completely unreliable).

The blockades of bridges and border crossings I disagree with, too. That IS illegal, according to ordinary laws. When they began (about 2 weeks in to the protest) I thought it was a mistake on the protesters’ part (and it could have been pre-empted had Trudeau taken a different approach, rather than demonizing the protesters).

The protest in Ottawa is another matter. The truckers have, in most cases, left one lane open on the streets where they have parked their trucks. They are congregated mainly in the vicinity of the Parliament buildings, and the rest of the city is relatively unaffected. At worst, residents near the Parliament have been *inconvenienced* – their lives have hardly been *disrupted*.

Theprotesters have been notably peaceful, and friendly. For 2-3 weeks police could find no cause to arrest anyone. At worst, they’re guilty of parking illegally. They (mostly) abide by the injunction against use of their horns, esp. after 6 p.m.

Trudeau, self-serving, conflated the blockaders with the Ottawa protesters, in order to de-legitimize the entire thing. All the escalation and heightening of tensions can be laid at the feet of Trudeau’s intransigence, and his demonization of the protesters.

    • I disagree, nothing will change in our western countries unless and until our so called leaders feel pain and finally fear us, until then, all this is, is an exercise in futility. If you want a truckers protest to work, blockade all the major cities in or out and completely shut is all down, then it might change.

  7. There are thousands of participants in person and on line supporting the convoy.
How are they all going to be identified? Who’s going to do it and how long will it take? Sure the ones ticketed are easy to ID but all those nameless faces in crowds?
