Yesterday evening a woman was pushed from the platform onto the tracks in front of metro train in Brussels. She narrowly escaped any serious injury.

The following news report makes no reference to the ethnicity of the perpetrator of the attack. The man who was arrested is said to be “French”, but that means almost nothing these days. Pushing infidels in front of trains is a popular pastime among culture-enrichers in various European countries, so I’m not ruling it out.

Woman deliberately pushed onto Brussels Metro track: 23-year-old French man arrested for attempted homicide

A particularly serious incident took place Friday evening, shortly after 7:40pm in the Brussels-Rogier Metro Station: A man pushed a woman onto the tracks without reason. The driver of the Metro train, fortunately, managed to make an emergency stop at the last moment. The perpetrator is a 23-year-old French man. He fled across the tracks, but was arrested in the De Brouckere Metro station. He is being held Saturday in front of the investigating judge.

On the images from the security camera, you can see how the man waits for the arrival of the Metro train then pushes the victim in the back. While the woman falls heavily with her head on the rails, he runs away. The alert driver was able to stop using his emergency brakes. According to MIVB spokesperson, An Van Hamme, the driver “reacted very well.”

The victim was not hit, and travelers were able to get her back on the platform. The woman was —like the Metro driver— taken to the hospital. Miraculously, the woman was only slightly injured.

23-year-old French man

The suspect is a 23-year-old French man. He managed to escape over the Metro tracks but was later arrested in the De Brouckere Metro station. “Thanks to the dissemination of the images of the suspect within the police services, he was intercepted a few minutes later while he was in the De Brouckere Metro station,” says Prosecutor Sarah Durant from the Public Prosecutor’s office. After being questioned by police, the suspect was made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and spent the night in jail.

On Saturday he was then interrogated by the investigating judge and subsequently charged, “for attempted homicide”. The investigating judge also appointed a psychiatric expert to check on the condition of the suspect. What motivated the man or whether he knew the victim is not yet known.
