Canadians Are About to Face More Sticker Shock at the Grocery Store

Food prices will climb by between five and seven per cent in 2022, adding nearly $1,000 a year to the grocery bill of the average family of four, according to estimates from the latest edition of Canada’s Food Price Report released on Thursday.

Restaurant meals, dairy, vegetable and bakery prices will deliver the biggest hit to Canadians’ bottom lines with expected increases of between five and eight per cent, the research shows.

The overall increase, projected to be between five and seven per cent, is the highest yet predicted by the report, which has been forecasting food inflation for the past 12 years.

China’s Vegetable Prices Surge 30.6% in November as Food Costs Soar

BEIJING — Fresh vegetable prices in China surged by 30.6% in November from a year ago, the National Bureau of Statistics said Thursday.

The gains followed a 15.9% year-on-year rise in October, as floods and other extreme weather in recent months have hit farms. Although the bureau noted the supply of vegetables increased in November, prices were still up on a monthly basis by 6.8%.

Investors have been watching for signs of whether rapidly rising prices and stagnant economic activity might further drag down growth.

Euro Zone Inflation Rate Hits a Record 4.9% for November

The euro zone’s inflation rate has risen to a record high in November, preliminary data showed Tuesday, prompting further questions about what the European Central Bank will do next with its monetary policy.

Headline inflation came in at 4.9% for the month, compared to the same month last year. This was above a consensus forecast of 4.5% from Reuters and was higher than October’s 4.1%. The figure was the highest on record in the 25 years that the data has been compiled.

Exclusive Poll: Biden is ‘Not Concerned’ About Harms of High Inflation, Majority of Americans Say

A majority of Americans believe President Joe Biden is not concerned with the impact that high inflation and rising costs have had on their lives, according to a Trafalgar Group/Convention of States poll released Thursday.

The poll, provided exclusively to the Daily Caller, reports that 56.7% of Americans believe Biden has little concern for the impact of inflation, with 44.6% of respondents saying he is “not concerned at all” and 12.1% saying he is “not very concerned.” The “not concerned” category included 27.8% of Democratic respondents, 59.1% of Republicans and 49.3% of independents.

Investors Brace for the Highest Inflation Reading in Nearly 40 Years

If the consensus is correct, the last time inflation was this high was in the early years of the Reagan administration — as the U.S. found itself amid a steep and persistent recession.

The Labor Department on Friday morning will release November’s consumer price index, a gauge that measures the cost of dozens of items. The index covers common goods including gasoline and ground beef, but extends into more detailed purchases such as frozen vegetables, indoor plants and flowers and pet supplies.

Wall Street expects the the index to reflect a 0.7% gain for the month, which would translate into a 6.7% increase from a year ago, according to Dow Jones estimates. Excluding food and energy, so-called core CPI is projected to rise 0.5% on a monthly basis and 4.9% on an annual basis.

OECD Sees Italy’s GDP Up 6.3% This Year, 4.6% in 2022

Growth set to drop to 2.6% in 2023 says economic outlook

(ANSA) — ROME, DEC 1 — The OECD said in its latest economic outlook on Wednesday that it sees Italy’s GDP rising 6.3% this year.

“The strong 2021 rebound from COVID-19 is forecast to ease progressively in 2022 and 2023, with growth of 4.6% and 2.6%,” the OECD said.

Italy posted negative growth of 8.9% last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The recovery is expected to benefit from supportive fiscal policy, including investment financed through Next Generation EU funds, and progressively normalising services activity,” the outlook said.

“A gradual rise in employment should support steady consumption growth. The recent increase in headline inflation is expected to moderate, but core inflation is forecast to rise as spare capacity declines and purchasing power increases”.

Pakistan: Food Inflation in Need of Urgent Attention

Persistent surge in food prices has produced multiplied difficulties even for the middle-class in Pakistan where people spend a major portion of their income on food, with the costly petrol, electricity, and direct/indirect taxes making a big hole in their savings.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the average inflation rate was recorded at 8.58% in July-Sep 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year. Monthly statistics in September show a 2.12% increase in the inflation rate compared to the month of August.

Facebook Boasts About New AI-Based Censorship

Facebook (aka Meta) is doubling down on using “AI” to censor what the company considers “harmful content,” it has been announced.

When Big Tech talks about “AI” used for the purposes of moderation and censorship, they really mean machine learning (ML) powered automation, and time and time again, this technology has proved not to be up to the task.

But now Facebook says that it has developed “new AI technology” stemming from “scientific breakthroughs” in the field — and that it has started using the new system, called Few-Shot Learner (FSL) that is supposed to speed up censorship times.

FDA Now Says Pfizer Clinical Data Will Take 75 Years to Release

The US Food and Drug Administration has elongated the timespan it will take to make public clinical data about Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.

The FDA now says it will take 75 years to release the information.

After processing 12,000 pages about the approval process for the vaccine in the space of two months, the agency now says it will only be able to release 500 pages a month going forward.

Having already asserted that it will take 55 years to release the full data, that estimation has now been extended by two decades.

[Comment: I’d like to see someone make a copy of the clinical data and give it to Wikileaks.]

FOIA Request of NIH Says There Are No Documents About “Gain-of-Function” Website Definition Removal

The Epoch Times sent a freedom of information request to the NIH for communications and other documents explaining why it decided to suddenly remove the definition of “gain-of-function research” from its website. The agency said no such documents exist.

The censorship of the website took place between October 19 and October 21. Before then, the NIH website used to have a 232-word definition of “gain-of-function research.” The definition was removed shortly after the agency admitted that it funded research in China that many alleged met the classification that was originally described on the website.

MINNEAPOLIS — Witness testimony is underway in the manslaughter trial of former Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, police Officer Kim Potter in the death of Minneapolis 20-year-old Daunte Wright, renewing attention over the debate of police use of force and raising questions about how an officer could mistake a handgun for a Taser.

“Every Taser course I know of emphasizes making sure you don’t inadvertently pull one when you need the other,” said David Katz, a former senior special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the founder and CEO of Global Security Group. “That is why most departments use the Taser in a cross-draw position, which is separate from the strong-side holster for the regular firearm.”

Europe’s Liberal Press Claims ‘Fascists’ Met at Warsaw Summit

There is a joke making its way through Spain where a son says to his father, who is a journalist, “Dad, I cut my hand.” The father then asks, “Your left hand or the far right one?”

This dialogue perfectly encapsulates the everyday language of European journalism, which no longer is able to use the term “right” without adding an adjective such as “far”, “radical” or “fundamentalist” to the term. Interestingly, even in countries such as Spain, in which a communist party is in the ruling coalition, one never hears or reads about a “far-left” party.

Extremism is allegedly represented solely by the right and that is meant to be the case throughout all of Europe. Even better! When the author is unable to contain their disgust, they eagerly reach for the “F” label, much like Jan Zielonka who commented on the Warsaw Summit in an article for the Polish media outlet Rzeczpospolita.

Italy: Doctors Can’t Refuse COVID Vaccine, Court Rules

Man’s ‘scientific doubts’ unproven says Council of State

(ANSA) — ROME, DEC 2 — The Council of State, Italy’s highest administrative court, on Thursday ruled that doctors cannot refuse the COVID vaccine.

With its verdict, the court rejected an appeal from an Abruzzo anti-vax doctor against his suspension for refusing to get the jab.

The man’s scientific doubts were “certainly not demonstrated,” said the court.

“Health staff, by law and still earlier according to the Hippocratic Oath are supposed to work in all ways to treat the sick and never increase the risk of contagion by the patient”, it ruled.

The judges reaffirmed the “primary right to health”.

They said there was a “clear prevalence” of scientific data showing the benefits of vaccines.

Italy: Pandemic Has Heightened Irrationality Says CENSIS

5.9% Italians say COVID doesn’t exist,10.9% say vaccines useless

(ANSA) — ROME, DEC 3 — The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted increasing irrationality among Italians and some three million of them do not think that COVID-19 exists, think tank CENSIS said in its 55th annual report on Friday.

“Irrationality is spreading like wildfire,” CENSIS said, stressing that the three million COVID deniers amounted to 5.9% of the adult population.

A further 10.9% think that vaccines are useless, the think tank said.

Some 5.8% of the population think that the world is flat.

“The irrational has infiltrated the social fabric,” CENSIS stressed.

“Alongside a reasonable and sane majority there is a wave of irrationality,” the report said, stessing that “the situation is unlikely to improve in the short term”.

“Society needs a concrete and robust project in order to recover from all this,” said the think tank.

The pandemic has also exacerbated poverty and increased vulnerability in Italy, said the researchers.

In 2020, it said, some two million Italian families were in absolute poverty, a rise of 104.8% on 2010 when there were 980,000.

The rise in poverty was sharper in the north, +131.4%, than in the centre (67.6%) and south (+93.8%), CENSIS said.

“The virus has also accentuated a sense of vulnerability,” the think tank added.

Some 40.3% of Italian feel insecure while students suffer increasing levels of depression, anxiety, and existential angst.

“From the psychological standpoint, the prolonged period of pandemic has provoked significant side effects.

Some 81” of school heads and university administrators have reported that students are suffering from “extreme malaise”, the report said.

Students’ scholastic performance has “worsened considerably as a result,” CENSIS saidn the report, citing the same sources.

“Italian society has mutated and has gone through crises and emergencies with the continual intertwining of emerged and submerged realities, both daily and long term.

“Today this is no longer enough.

Continual adaptation is no longer enough, and our overall institutional system must rethink itself.

“We are faced with a society that will only be able to recover via a project and not by spontaneous evolution.” CENSIS said it was now time for “a serious programme, structural reforms, and public intervention with courageous choices”.

PM Orban Writes Farewell to Merkel in German Newspaper

On the day Social-Democrat politician Olaf Scholz was elected chancellor of Germany, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban published a farewell article in tabloid Bild Zeitung, a farewell from Chancellor Merkel, after whose departure from politics Orban becomes the longest-serving prime minister of the European Union.

The article, entitled “The migration crisis of 2015 broke our unity”, is largely the same as Orban’s Samizdat 14 one, published on the prime minister’s homepage a few days ago, in which he wrote:

“The loyal and disciplined Germans, the rebellious and reckless Hungarians, stood together for a common goal: a Europe in which all nations can feel at home.

And then the rupture, or rather fracture of the 2015 migratory invasion — the kind of injury from which an athlete’s movement will no longer be what it once was. He rehabilitates, he tries, he struggles, but more out of honor than anything else. He knows, and after a while he admits, he can’t get his old form back.”

PM Orban: Germany’s New Left-Wing Government is ‘Driving Towards a Migration-and-Gender Friendly Policy’

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban may have rejected former Chancellor Angela Merkel’s stance on the 2015 migrant crisis, but he and other Central European conservatives now fear Germany’s new left-wing government is set to rapidly implement a progressive agenda and centralize power in Brussels away from nation states.

“The new left-liberal federal government is moving away from Helmut Kohl’s concept of Europe of fatherlands and is driving towards a migration— and gender-friendly policy that is German-influenced and centralized from Brussels. We are no longer standing side by side,” Orban wrote in an article for the German tabloid Bild Hungarian prime minister.

Scottish Tory Leader: BoJo Must Go if He Misled Parliament, No Evidence Vax Passports Work

The leader of the Scottish wing of the Conservative Party has spoken out against Prime Minister Boris Johnson on vaccine passports and said he should go if he misled Parliament about an alleged lockdown-breaking Christmas party at Downing Street.

“If the Prime Minister knew about this party last December, knew about this party last week, and was still denying it, then that is the most serious allegation,” said Douglas Ross, who leads the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, or Scottish Tories, of the alleged party, said to have been thrown at Downing Street at a time when Christmas gatherings were largely banned for ordinary Londoners and much of the rest of England.

Sweden and Germany: No Deaths in Children Due to COVID

The decision by parents to vaccinate their child against Covid is really a question of risk management. Parents must seriously consider that Covid-19 is a less dangerous illness for children than influenza. It has shown to be so and quite stably near 20 months now.

Children do not readily acquire this pathogen, spread to other children, spread to adults, take it home, get severely ill, or die from it. It is that simple. We know children tend not to transmit Covid-19 virus and that the concept of asymptomatic spread has been questioned severely, particularly for children.

Children, if infected, just do not spread Covid-19 to others readily, either to other children, other adults in their families or otherwise, nor to their teachers. This was demonstrated elegantly in a study performed in the French Alps. The pediatric literature is clear science on this. Overwhelming data shows that the SARS-CoV-2-associated burden of severe disease or death in children and adolescents is very low (statistically zero).

Swedish data by Ludvigsson reported on the 1,951,905 children in Sweden (as of December 31, 2020) who were 1 to 16 years of age who attended school with largely no lockdowns or masks. They found zero (0) deaths.

‘The World Without Angela Merkel Will be Worse’ Says Former Czech President Klaus

Former Czech President Vaclav Klaus said he appreciated the political career of the former German Chancellor Angela Merkel despite their mutual disagreements. He said that politics without her personality would be in a worse state.

“She was a reliable guarantee of order and predictable politics,” wrote Klaus about Merkel’s departure.

He concluded that “without Angela Merkel, it will get worse.”

Klaus, who has criticized Merkel’s stance on migration in the past, is also undoubtedly looking to Germany’s incoming left-wing government and a number of its radical proposals.

UK Health Secretary Says ‘Unethical’ Mandatory Vaccination ‘Will Not Work’

The UK health secretary has stated that he has ‘no interest’ in legislating for mandatory COVID vaccinations, describing such a policy as ‘unethical’.

In an interview with the BBC, Sajid Javid said “My view is that it’s unethical and also at a practical level it wouldn’t work.”

Javid added, “If you’re asking me about universal mandatory vaccination, as some countries in Europe have said they will do, at a practical level I just don’t think it would work. Getting vaccinated has to be a positive choice.”

Valérie Pécresse: Part-Thatcher, Part-Merkel and Wants to Run France

France’s traditional right-wing Republicans party is preparing to fight for its life in the presidential election next spring. Its surprise choice of Valérie Pécresse as candidate has boosted the party, with a new opinion poll suggesting she could beat Emmanuel Macron to become France’s first female president.

You know you’re making headway as a female politician when people start analysing your clothes.

For Valérie Pécresse, it began with a red jacket, worn for her victory speech after winning the nomination for Les Républicains.

One daily newspaper even asked fashion historians to decrypt it.

“This red jacket was chosen to distinguish her from the crowd,” one said. “It’s the colour of power.”

Another described it as evoking “warrior spirit [and] blood”.

Just a few days later, a poll by Elabe suggested that, if the election were held today, Valérie Pécresse would beat President Macron in a run-off vote by 52% to 48%.

Booster Shot Reduces Risk of Death by 90 Percent

An Israeli study published on Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine finds that a third dose (booster) of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine reduces the risk of COVID-related death by 90 percent.

The study was conducted by the Clalit Health Services Health Maintenance Organization, together with the Maximizing Health Outcomes Research Lab at Sapir College in Sderot and the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Be’er Sheva.

The study, which was conducted on people aged 50 and older, followed up on clients from all HMOs who received the second dose of the vaccine at least five months earlier, and compared the fatality rates from COVID-19 among the group that received the booster shot to the group that did not.[…]

[A pure propaganda piece — no real figures and quoting a relative risk rather than a real risk, if we ever get to see the real study, we will find we are comparing tiny fractions of the groups which are statistically insignificant the nejm article is here-https://www.nejm.org/doi/pdf/10.1056/NEJMoa2115624?articleTools=true of 850,000 participants 100,000 were in the non booster group,-”The adjusted hazard ratio for death due to Covid-19 in the booster group, as compared with the nonbooster group, was 0.10 (95% confidence interval, 0.07 to 0.14; P<0.001).” i.e. a miniscule difference.amplified by quoting relative risk]

China Committed Genocide Against Uyghurs, Independent Tribunal Rules

China has committed genocide against the Uyghur people in Xinjiang, an unofficial UK-based tribunal has found.

The Uyghur Tribunal cited birth control and sterilisation measures allegedly carried out by the state against the Uyghurs as the primary reason for reaching its conclusion on Thursday.

Sir Geoffrey Nice, a prominent British barrister who chaired the tribunal hearings, said its panel was satisfied China had carried out “a deliberate, systematic and concerted policy” to bring about “long-term reduction of Uyghur and other ethnic minority populations”. He added that the panel believed senior officials including the Chinese president Xi Jinping bore “primary responsibility” for the abuses against Muslim minorities in the Xinjiang region.

  1. “The government of New Zealand is working hard to ensure that it will soon be legally impossible for Kiwis to purchase and use tobacco products.”

Wow! All the drug smugglers are rejoicing! Another income stream in their portfolio!

Some days I think I died and went to Stupid People Hell.

    • When the federal government tied highway funds to raising the drinking age to 21 (Frank Lautenberg), street drug use and binge drinking skyrocketed…..as planned.

    • Excellent point. New Zealand is going to create a black market, in this case, for cigarettes.

The US had prohibition of alcohol. That didn’t work out well.

      • Tobacco is even easier to smuggle that alcohol.
And it can be easily grown.
I almost wish I could get in on the ground floor of a smuggling or illicit growing operation.

  2. I do not like the ROC, like other Abrahamic religions, but in my opinion this mockery is disgusting. Um … has she tried the same with Islam?

An exhibition of “pornographic icons” opens in Berlin, the Berlin-German Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church expresses its protest

The Berlin-German Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, that is, the branch of the Russian Orthodox Church in Germany, sent an open letter to the mayor of the city of Offenbach, Felix Schwenke, in which it demanded to ban the exhibition of the artist Christina Metzner. The exhibition in question is called “Pornographic Serial” and depicts Orthodox icons with pornographic elements.

The exhibition in the city of Offenbach presents exact copies of Orthodox icons with the addition of images of genitals and scenes of intimacy. The mayor refused to close the exhibition, explaining this by “secular, freedom-loving democracy, in which any art has the right to exist.”

That rug Merkel deserve nothing but prison time !! , she betrayed own country and people, I guess it doesn’t matter dose it, since worse government is in power now !, all communism, very very bad , Greens , SPD , and FDP not even better, and We are talking about Merkel !!!, Gute Nacht Deutschland..

  5. The rise in food prices in China is also linked to the cost of urea made from natural gas. China has stopped exports of urea to keep food prices down in China and the result is we will be short of urea so short of food and diesel trucks will stop as there is no Abdul to add to the diesel so the trucks will freeze. Australia is due to run out of Adblue in mid Jan leading to shortages of everything! Costs will also rise. Urea is used as an input to most food stuffs, even as fertiliser for grass to fatten beef cows. No product will be unaffected. The government has set up a task force and a former Trump adviser is included. Andrew Leveris
