Gates of Vienna News Feed 11/10/2021

Swedish and German nationals have been arrested in Poland near the border with Belarus for their efforts to help migrants enter Poland illegally. Meanwhile, Russia blamed the European Union for the crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland.

In other news, Steve Sweeney, the Democrat president of the New Jersey Senate, has finally conceded that he lost last week’s election to Edward Durr, a Republican truck driver who spent just over $2,300 on his campaign.

Biden’s Marxist Nominee for Banking Chief Wants Oil, Gas, And Coal Industries to Go Bankrupt

Saule Omarova, Biden’s handlers’ nominee for comptroller of the currency, the government’s top bank regulator, is a self-proclaimed “radical,” as Stephen Green has noted. Just how radical became clear in a video clip that surfaced Tuesday, in which Omarova calls matter-of-factly for the destruction of the oil, gas, and coal industries. Well, we can’t say that we haven’t been warned.

Inflation Nation: Massive Rise Confirmed by Shocking New Numbers

Despite presidential denial, inflation has returned with a vengeance to the United States this year — sparked in part by high demand, labor shortages, supply chain troubles, and misguided Washington policies.

It was announced by the Labor Department Wednesday that consumer prices rose by their highest in over three decades.

Wholesale prices skyrocketed nearly 9% last month, compared to a year earlier, as insidious inflation continues to ripple throughout our economy.

The producer price index — a measure of inflation before it hits consumers — increased 0.6% in October from September.

The rise was mainly due to a surge in gasoline prices, with the national average for a gallon of regular at $3.43 today, versus $2.10 one year ago.

A Blogger Loses His Money to Bank Fraud

Fraud like that is one reason I never give out my bank account details to any company that doesn’t have a very good reason for needing them. In particular, with overseas transactions I buy a pre-paid credit card for the amount needed for the transaction, use it to make the payment, then discard it. If a criminal gets hold of the card number and tries to withdraw more, he’ll get nowhere. (That’s happened to me twice before, once from South Africa and once from China.) Since the card will never be used more than once, by definition it’s as secure as it can be. If I’d sent a check, with my bank account and routing numbers visible on it, who knows what might have happened?

American Medical Association Pushes Pro-Critical Race Theory Materials in ‘Health Equity’ Guide

The American Medical Association recently released a guide on “Advancing Health Equity” that promotes how to fight for critical race theory, includes a list of words not to say and their “equity-focused alternatives,” and criticizes concepts like “meritocracy,” “individualism” and the “‘free’ market.”

The 55-page document released on Oct. 28 cites a guide by the organization Race Forward for how to advocate for critical race theory (CRT), which is called “Guide to Counter-Narrating the Attacks on Critical Race Theory.”

The health equity guide argues physicians cannot eliminate “health inequities” by “focus[ing] only on individuals, their behavior or their biology.” It says they instead must focus on language and collective political circumstances of certain groups.

Biden’s FCC Pick is a Fan of Censorship

Sohn has previously suggested that the FCC should be given the power to regulate conservative media.

Breaking: Rittenhouse Defense Will File for a Mistrial With Prejudice

On Wednesday, the defense team behind Kyle Rittenhouse told Judge Bruce Shroeder that they would be filing for a “mistrial with prejudice” because they believe that the prosecution is not acting in good faith.

“The defense is going to be making a motion for a mistrial, however, that motion is going to be requested with prejudice,” said a defense lawyer for Rittenhouse.

If a mistrial is declared, Rittenhouse could be tried again for the same crime. However, the filing for a mistrial with prejudice would indicate that there should not be a further trial.

Judge Shroeder slammed Binger for not acting in good faith.

Facebook Blocks Former Cuomo Aide From Advertising Book on Sexual Harassment

Facebook has banned the ads for a book about sexual harassment by a former aide to Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio.

Hinton claims it’s because the title contains the word “penis.” The writer highlighted the social media platform’s double standards, noting the existence of multiple Facebook Pages about the book Vagina Monologues, suggesting the censorship may be for another reason.

Karen Hinton, a former aide to the former New York governor Andrew Cuomo and current New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, has an upcoming book called “Penis Politics.”

Finding Freedom

My late husband (also an economist) defined government as “the home invasion robbery that never ends” (miss that guy!). His flip description from years back seems painfully accurate today.

The good news is freedom-loving entrepreneurs who have read Ayn Rand, are incorrigible, and WILL NOT COMPLY.

Job and healthcare portals have sprung up to help unvax’d citizens find work and locate courageous independent doctors, nurse practitioners, and specialists willing to provide care.

The employees gathered in front of the plant said they weren’t necessarily against the vaccine, but they were opposed to being told they had to get it.

Leftist Hack Claims That if Any White Person is Using the Word ‘Woke’, it’s a “Racial Slur”

A writer with Slate has declared that the word ‘woke’ when used by a white person should be treated as a racial slur because it was “shoplifted” from the “black community”.

It’s the latest narrative in the debate over cancel culture.

It is no longer credible to declare that cancel culture doesn’t exist, and so the left has reverted to what it knows best, baseless accusations of racism and bigotry.

Along with a tacit threat, Slate hack Joel Anderson tweeted “If you’re not black and started using ‘woke’ pejoratively sometime post-2018 or so (or worse, don’t know anything about the earlier iteration of the term), I think it’s fair to consider it a racial slur.”

Meet ‘Grambo,’ the Star of the First Day of Defense Case in Kyle Rittenhouse Trial

She’s not a nut. She’s not a militia member. She’s “Grambo,” and her testimony in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial on Tuesday completely beguiled many people watching the Kenosha County trial. As such, they’ve christened her with the new nickname.

Joann Fiedler, who started a patriot group, testified for the defense that she drove to Kenosha after witnessing violent rioting in the city. She ended up in a group of armed men guarding a car company and it was there she met Kyle Rittenhouse. She brought her .380 semiautomatic pistol and wore it in a holster while she stood guard at the Car Source business.

Fiedler reminded people of their Midwestern grandma and perhaps served as a proxy for Kyle Rittenhouse. She showed that the people moved to protect Kenosha businesses during the fiery riots weren’t militia members, but people who believed that violence and property destruction aren’t OK.

NJ Senate President Finally Concedes Defeat to Republican Truck Driver

Democratic New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney has finally admitted defeat to his Republican opponent, truck driver Edward Durr, who only spent a mere $2,300 on his campaign.

Sweeney initially refused to concede, claiming that 12,000 ballots were miraculously found. “The results from Tuesday’s election continue to come in,” Sweeney said in a statement last week. “For instance, there were 12,000 ballots recently found in one county.”

“While I am currently trailing in the race, we want to make sure every vote is counted. Our voters deserve that, and we will wait for the final results,” he added.

Sweeney now admits that all the votes have been counted, and his reign as the second-most powerful official in New Jersey is over.

Potassium Metathorinate

In my youth my father bought me a collection of sci-fi stories, The Other Side of Tomorrow. Somewhat dark and dystopian, though nothing like Animal Farm, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, or Brave New World — classic must-reads all — most of the stories painted a less-than-rosy picture of the future. I liked them a lot, which may say more about me than I care… regardless, onward. The story to which I refer specifically is A Bowl of Biskies Makes a Growing Boy.

[…]

In this story the main character, George Williams (remember the name), inferentially in high school, lives in a huge apartment building in what is, again inferentially, a crammed-in-cheek-to-jowl megacity*. He reads the ingredients list for the cereal Biskies that he has for breakfast every morning for the umpteenth time and suddenly notices that his breakfast food has this chemical, Potassium Metathorinate, as one of the ingredients.

Power Station Workers Protest Vaccine Mandate

WHEATLAND — Protesters gathered at Basin Electric’s Laramie River Station last Friday in opposition to COVID vaccine mandates. Approximately 85 vaccine mandate opponents, including some workers at the power plant, called out to cars driving by and held up signs voicing their displeasure.

Workers at the power plant recently found out through an email that they would have to get coronavirus vaccinations due to a federal order mandating vaccines for U.S. employers with more than 100 employees.

The federal order was issued by the Biden administration last week. There was also an email from Basin Electric CEO Todd Telesz stating the power cooperative was willing to work with employees.

A federal appeals court over the weekend issued a stay halting the federal mandate, but the White House said businesses affected by the mandate should continue preparing to put it in place.

[Comment: Those power station workers should contact attorneys.]

Rittenhouse Prosecutor Accused of Trying to Tank Case After Judge Angrily Denounces His ‘Grave Constitutional Violation’

The judge in the Kyle Rittenhouse self-defense trial in Kenosha, Wisc. came unglued at the prosecutor in the case when he cross-examined the defendant about his Constitutionally protected fifth amendment right to remain silent after he was first arrested.

Non-attorneys may not have picked up the verbal collision course prosecutor Thomas Binger was on when — not once, but twice — he said of the defendant that “today’s testimony is your first time telling your story.”

The prosecutor’s behavior became the subject of discussion for a motion for mistrial with prejudice by the defense.

Commenting on a defendant’s right to remain silent in court is illegal and prejudicial, which appeared to be the point of the matter.

The judge admonished Binger, noting “this is a grave Constitutional violation for you to talk about the defendant’s silence. That is — and you’re right, you’re right on the borderline. And you may, you may be over, but it’d better stop.”

Tell Me Again Why I Should Vote Republican

So often, whether they are in control or in opposition, Republicans do not really stand for anything. They may at times oppose the size or expense of legislation proposed by Democrat administrations, but they do not lead. They do not defend any consistent positions. They are almost always on defense and overly sensitive to media criticism. They apologetically play by the rules (even when in a street fight). They attempt to piously uphold congressional institutional traditions (often to their disadvantage), but they are, for the most part, ineffectual. None of these traits plagues Democrats, who consistently and doggedly push forward their radical agenda, unconcerned about appearances or opinion.

In 1964, presidential candidate Barry Goldwater proposed that he was a “choice, not an echo.” He was right then to suggest that we needed something other than a subservient opposition party, and it is now time to remember his words. Otherwise, why should I vote Republican?

YouTube Hides ‘Dislikes’ Following Mass Downvoting of Biden Administration Videos

YouTube has announced it will hide ‘dislikes’ from videos to curb “creator harassment,” with critics pointing out that this is merely a way of removing the huge amount of downvotes on videos posted by the Biden administration.

“The company says the change is to keep smaller creators from being targeted by dislike attacks or harassment, and to promote “respectful interactions between viewers and creators.” The dislike button will still be there, but it’ll be for private feedback, rather than public shaming.”

Quite how viewer feedback in the form of a thumbs down icon represents “harassment” is anyone’s guess, but the immediate response to the announcement from many was that the Google-owned company was merely moving to protect the Biden White House from ridicule.

Marine Le Pen Thanks Hungarians for Their Resistance Against the European Superstate

The leader of the French National Rally, Marine Le Pen, has summed up her experience gained during her October visit to Budapest in a letter addressed to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. In her message, she assured the prime minister of her political support and advocated a Europe that is not built against the interests of EU member states but is designed to strengthen these through free cooperation.

Addressing her words to Orban, Le Pen wrote that during her visit to Budapest she recognized that Hungary had never made a compromise and had never given up protecting its identity. The fact that they never renounced their freedom and independence also shows the spirit of Hungarians, she said. Le Pen thanked Orban for the “meaningful and constructive exchange of views” regarding their discussion about the future of Europe and the importance of the role of nations and peoples that make up Europe.

Belarus Migrants: Poland Faces Fresh Border Breaches

Poland faced “many attempts” to breach the border with Belarus overnight but now has 15,000 troops to repel them, the defence minister has said.

Several thousand migrants have become stranded at the border, at the centre of an escalating international row.

For months, the EU, and now Nato and the US, have accused Belarus’s authoritarian leader of provoking a renewed migrant crisis in Europe.

Ever-increasing numbers have headed to Belarus’s borders with the EU.

Alexander Lukashenko, who won a largely discredited election last year, denies luring would-be migrants — mostly from the Middle East — to the EU’s borders in retaliation for sanctions imposed since he brutally cracked down on protesters and opponents.

Belarus Border Chaos a ‘Hybrid Attack Not a Migration Crisis’, Says EU’s Von Der Leyen

Ursula von der Leyen has described the influx of migrants on Belarus’ borders with EU countries as a “hybrid attack” by an authoritarian regime on its neighbours.

Speaking after meeting US President Joe Biden in Washington, the European Commission president vowed to “protect democracies” and said the two leaders shared a common assessment of the situation.

Threatening sanctions against countries found to be aiding Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko’s efforts to damage the EU, von der Leyen said efforts were being made to persuade them not to “fall into the trap”.

EU Accuses Belarus of ‘Trafficking’ Migrants Toward Border

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — European Union officials on Wednesday accused Belarus of state-sponsored “trafficking” of human lives by luring desperate migrants to the Polish border — the edge of the EU — where many are now stuck in makeshift camps in freezing weather.

As the crisis showed no sign of easing, an EU leader also said the bloc was, for the first time, considering the idea of funding the construction of a wall or some other barrier on its eastern border. That idea has always been rejected before and still faces many political and humanitarian obstacles.

Polish authorities estimate that about 3,000-4,000 migrants have gathered along its border with Belarus, with hundreds concentrated in one makeshift camp not far from the Kuznica crossing. Warsaw has bolstered security at the frontier, where it has declared a state of emergency.

European Defense Leaders Warn: Belarus Migrant Crisis Could Morph Into Military Crisis

TALLINN — European defense leaders are fretting that the surging migration crisis at the Belarus-Poland border could spark another crisis — violent conflict.

“The potential for escalation is extremely high,” Estonian Defense Minister Kalle Laanet said Wednesday at a press conference during the Annual Baltic Conference on Defense, a regular event that gathers the defense community in Estonia.

His comments were echoed at the same press conference by senior defense officials from Greece, Lithuania and the U.K., who all shared the fear of escalation. Currently, at least 2,000 migrants are camped in freezing temperatures at the Belarus border with Poland, unable to enter the country, but not allowed to turn back — part of a Belarusian scheme EU officials have termed a “hybrid attack” against the bloc, combining political and military elements.

Germans Thanks Poland for Defending EU Border

Word of Belarusian provocations and hybrid warfare against Poland is spreading across the world. While some opposition politicians in Poland are unable to approach the crisis in accordance with their country’s interests, ordinary citizens, including those in Germany, are celebrating Poland’s defense of Europe.

Examples of this are online movements such as “#DumaiSzacunek” (pride and respect) and “#MuremzaPolskimMundurem” (we stand behind the Polish uniform) as part of which Polish flags are hung out of windows as thanks to the Polish soldiers, police and officers who are defending the border.

He also condemned Biden’s ‘absurd’ double standard in raising concern over the recent migrant crisis on the border between Poland and Belarus while staying silent on the US’s own southwest border in a separate statement to DailyMail.com.

Reports that migrants are being flown in to Jacksonville, Florida and other US destinations in the middle of the night surfaced last month on the city’s local News 4 Jax.

Revealed: ‘Poor’ Migrants Near Polish Border Spotted Wearing Expensive Designer Coats

Are the migrants who are storming the Polish-Belarusian border “poor people” as Civic Platform leader Donald Tusk called them not so long ago? Some of them perhaps are, but Law and Justice (PiS) MEP Dominik Tarczynski, along with several Polish social media users, have noticed a few important details.

A photo taken by reporters from the Belarusian Telegraph Agency who closely follow the migrant assault on the Polish border, recently appeared in Polish media. The photo shows a migrant chopping down a tree using an axe. The wood would later be used to break the defensive measures on the border.

MEP Tarczynski drew attention to the coat which the migrant in the photo was wearing. As it turns out, the coat in question is from the Canada Goose brand which retails for almost €1,000 (after discounts).

Russia blamed the EU on Wednesday for the ongoing migrant crisis at the Poland-Belarus border.

  1. I hope those people will be punished to the full extent of polish law.
Why must I think of incarceration in the vestiges of camps that their forefathers once erected in Poland,…. but my thoughts disgress.

    • The ancestors of these “Germans” come from the Middle East, so they had nothing to do with concentration camps. People who came to Germany in 2015 or earlier are now bringing their families to Germany. They pay for flights from Turkey to Belarus and then, using German documents, come to the Polish-Belarusian border to pick up their relatives.

      • yes indeed. It only was disclosed recently that those „Germans“ were passport holders.
The more I wish them some happy days in jail.

    • These are 3rd worlders, not Germans and they will never be Germans. As for these NGO’s helping the vermin cross, deal with them by walking them into the forest for a one way trip.

  2. One article on the Poland Belarus situation said Belarus had a large supply of (US?) weapons from Afghanistan.

  3. In Russia, the “child of the Caucasus mountains” has once again shown herself in all its glory.

The criminal case was initiated over the fact of a brawl that was staged at the Research Institute of Eye Diseases in Moscow by the former Deputy Prime Minister of Ingushetia (Muslim Caucasian Republic) Bagaudin Tsoloyev.

On November 9, the ex-official was late for an appointment and caused a scandal in the chief doctor’s office. He used foul language, broke the doorknob and brandished it, eventually beating the head physician and two employees who rushed to the aid of their leader. After the incident, the brawler disappeared. He later explained that he did not like the doctors’ behavior.

The case was opened under the article about the threat of murder or infliction of grievous bodily harm. Tsoloyev’s arrest was not reported.
