R.I.P. Lars Vilks

Fjordman just sent this brief note:

Big news tonight from Sweden that the artist Lars Vilks, best known for depictions of the prophet Muhammad, has been killed in a car accident. Two police officers assigned to protect Vilks were also killed in the crash. As police were involved in the crash, it is currently being investigated carefully.

It’s too early to say whether cultural enrichment was involved in Mr. Vilks’ tragic death.

I’ll be writing more about the legacy of Lars Vilks in later posts. For now, I’ll just quote from what I said back in March of 2015:

Although he would probably not agree with the characterization, the Swedish artist Lars Vilks is a hero of the Counterjihad movement.

Like many other people who have chosen to criticize or mock Islam, Mr. Vilks’ life has been in danger for years. Last month he was the target of a failed assassination attempt in Copenhagen. Throughout the aftermath of this incident, and during all his previous tribulations, the artist has remained steadfast in his defense of free speech as an absolute. For the past eight years he has never retracted or groveled or apologized to Islam. His position in March 2015 remains the same as it was in July 2007.

In the fall of 2007, at the height of the initial controversy over “The Prophet as a Roundabout Dog”, someone asked Mr. Vilks if drawing the cartoon was worth dying for. In reply he said simply, “Yes, it is.”

That’s what makes him a hero.

I never had the privilege of meeting Mr. Vilks in person, but he was kind enough to send the following drawing to us, which he drew especially for Gates of Vienna:

Rest in peace, Lars Vilks.

  1. According to initial reports, Vilks’ vehicle somehow crossed the center divider and went onto the oncoming lane crashing into a truck. Both vehicles caught on fire. The truck driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

    • All modern vehicles are connected to the internet (always), and all major systems in a car are monitored and controlled by a computer. A few years ago some white hats demonstrated in STL, MO, USA how they were able to assume control of vehicles remotely whilst being operated. If some amateurs were able to do so, what might a concerned, well funded, gov outfit accomplish? It seems to me that an observer with line of sight could partially lock the front brake to swerve a vehicle into the path of a commercial vehicle. But hey, a government would never do that, eh?

      • Absolutely spot on. Just what I was thinking. No way was this an “accident.”

      • Surely to “control a car remotely” you’d need self-driving mode… Which exists in Teslas, but not too many other cars?!

As for “connected to the internet”, surely you’d need satellite navigation – which can then also be switched off?!

Or maybe I don’t know much about the latest cars – as I’m happily driving my 2005 and 2011 models.

  2. though it is too early to assign a Islamic coefficient, it would seemingly go without saying that it was a suicide attack that benefited from insider information, which is why the actuality will most likely be concealed inasmuch as it would prove to be an embarrassment.
Any set of beliefs that would require as a religious duty the continued slaughter of those of a particular people group, religion, and anyone who would disparage said belief system would have otherwise been labeled a cult that is a threat to society at large and is actively opposed to American Law as based in the Constitution. The only explanation for I Slam’s seeming immunity from prosecution is that its author and chief deity is Satan who has styled himself as the god of this world and has been allowed a temporary but supervised rule of this planet, All who ascribe to his counterfeit of Christianity will go down in flames with him, but in the meantime we must look to YAH for the shelter His ‘wings’ (Ps. 91:1-4) provide.
Rest in peace Lars and I hope to see you in heaven.

  3. Just read about this in the UK Daily Mail and the first thing that came to mind was foul play of some sort. It sounds like it was an absolutely horrific accident with all three of them in Lars’ car killed.

I would not put anything past the vile, degenerate Culture Enrichers when it comes to finding a way to do him in. Nothing.

Christians and western politicians forget that the Islamic Jihadists are even worse than the Demoncrats when it comes to revenge. They never forgive or forget.

RIP Lars. May perpetual light shine upon him.

  4. Strange that Angelo Codevilla was killed in a car crash just a few days ago. Could be random events, though.

  5. Just a guess, and the mantle of an educated one I’ll assume here;
THIS IS JUST ANOTHER ISLAMIC MIRACLE

you know, like those spontaneous and miraculous combustions of Christian Churches throughout Europe.

  6. R.I.P. Scary, and predictable “accident” at the same time…

Any info on who was the truck driver, or the police protection officers?!

  7. Nude shock at the Moderna Museet

    Published yesterday 12/12 at 15.54

At the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm, a protest was held today where the Danish artist Uwe Max Jensen ran around naked among the museum visitors.

The protest action was a criticism of the Modern Museum’s decision not to include the artist Lars Vilk’s patrol dog drawing in the museum’s collection.

The police received several calls about the incident, but when they arrived at the museum, the operation had already ended. According to the police, no one is suspected of any crime and the case is closed. The Modern Museum announces through its press service that they refuse to comment on the incident.
